Ron sent us via email paperwork /contract and all info you would ask when reaching out to moving company. Ron was able to accommodate our limited move time. No hidden charges. I believe one of the movers name was Alex and sorry I can't recall his helper. They were hard workers, polite and wore masks the entire day in keeping with the COVID restrictions. I moved from Boston to Martha's Vineyard last November, and they couldn't have been better. They answered all my nervous questions, mostly in a timely fashion except maybe once or twice, but I called a lot because I hadn't moved in 30 years. As for the move itself, it went smoothly, the guys helped me finish packing when that was not what I'd intended but, oops! I fell behind a bit. They even got my plants down to the vineyard without incident, and I have a ficus, and a 10-foot tree. When they set the furniture down in the new place, they put it down very carefully, so there was no scraping on the floor. Now I'm moving again to another place on the Vineyard, and I immediately called Barnes again.

Being able to communicate via email, and getting all my many questions answered quickly, was a huge advantage over other companies I contacted. Jim was running slightly late at his previous job, but called me ahead of time to let me know, which I appreciated. And I surely put him in the exact same position with his next client, as I kept adding things beyond what we originally discussed I wanted removed once he was here, including a queen sized mattress/boxspring and a heavy bureau. And at the end of the job, Jim asked for the exact same payment he had originally quoted, which was slightly less than the other quote I received from a competitor (we decided to add on ourselves, but it was a generous offer). The driver was obnoxious, complaining and stomping around, snarling and glowering with teeth clenched, and I told him I didn't appreciate it. He took offense. By the time Colony got here, my husband and I, age 76, were exhausted, working on too little sleep for days. We didn't need complaints from a well-rested prima donna who'd just come back from FOUR DAYS off with pay (long Thanksgiving weekend). Colony couldn't find a substitute driver and crew. Thank goodness, we were able to find a local company that stepped in. Otherwise, we'd have been non-compliant with our closing agreement.
