Can I give 0 stars?!! Arrived to units 6 and 7. Someone else was parked right in front of the garage for unit 7. Apparently, there is no assigned parking. But, one of the doors to our unit goes directly to to the garage, where I was hoping to park my car out of the elements. When we walked into our unit, it stunk of crab/fish, just nasty. Carpets stained, couch stained, chair spring broken, fireplace had an inch of dust. At this point, I'm still trying to stay calm and have a relaxing getaway. Chocolate chip cookie and other crumbs were under the hideaway couch. Then, we realize there is no bedding. I called the number on the door and got a voicemail. I found another number to call on line, I'm still waiting to hear back.... Where am I supposed to sleep tonight??? I seriously better get comped for tonight. Not the place it used to be. I'm so disappointed right now. Seriously, next time I come to this area I will avoid this place. read more

This place is a shit hole. It's visibly dirty, ancient stained carpet with holes in it, stains on the walls, damaged furniture, gross old mattresses, etc etc. There's only one tiny window that opens and faces a wall, there's a little fan in the room, but it's so filthy that it started blowing dirt all over the room and bed so that's a no go. Maybe I'll take it downstairs and try and hose it off later, since this is basically a windowless attic room. I don't know if any of the other units are any better but #5 is definitely a dump. Another side note, they show pics of a nice deck in all the room listings but not all rooms have a deck. I'm not a princess, I don't mind older funky places, but that is not this place, soo not worth the insanely expensive price. read more

Nothing was clean. There was dog hair all over the floor. The dishes in the cupboards were all dirty with hair and chunks of food. Plan to bring your own pots and pans as we were given 1 small egg pan. The coffee pot didn't work so we had to ask for a new one. There were no extra blankets. The springs were coming through the couch cushions so the couch was horribly uncomfortable. It was clear no one made an attempt to come and clean the house. There were no cleaning supplies left for us but there was a sign that said GUESTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR WASHING DISHES UPON THEIR DEPARTURE. So pray the previous guests did a good job cleaning. We did call the reservation line and later that same day someone came and vacuumed the dog hair for us so we could enjoy the living room. The view is nice. We stayed in unit #8. read more

We were here at Cape Cod Cottages and it is not at all what it used to be. If you have stayed here in the past you know it was charming and friendly. Now, the property is under new ownership and their style is to do all contact on line and then never have direct contact with the guests. There is a sign on the office that they will "Return at 11" but in fact the office is never staffed. Other signs advise that beach towels and beach blankets are available at the office , but again, nobody there. In a vacation rental that might be expected but if you're staying at a commercial lodging property providing absolutely no services to your guests. Talked with several other guests on the beach during our stay and we all had the same reaction ... Where did the quality go? Now the location is still great and the cabins rustic , but already the place is in need of a resident manager to keep up with maintenance issues. Big change from the past. We are going to have to find a new place to stay, and that's a shame for all of us. read more

This is a fantastic property located on the beach 1.5 miles south of Waldport, Oregon. The cabins are old (they've been around since the 1938) and the interiors are dated (they've been around since.. oh, the 1970s). The reasonable prices reflect the agedness of the property, but not the amenities, the view/location, or the friendly helpfulness of the front desk, so it's quite a value. If it matters to you, you should arrange to be in a unit within range of the wifi router (mine wasn't--I was also in a dead zone for Verizon, which ended about 10 feet from my room!). I really don't understand the negative reviews. My wife and I just staid for 4 nights with our two dogs. This place is setup for responsible dog owners. There is a bit of a remodel going on, which made the parking lot a bit crowded. This place looks like it is well maintained, clean, and well suited for us. What I like is most of the Windows face the deck and has a great view of the ocean. There's a small grass area before the beach for dog stop before going out on the sand. And then it's only a few paces from there to the stairs down to the beach. The beach has been awesome hardly anyone out here (2nd-6th of June 2019) I honestly don't have any cons, as a cleaner I noticed very few issues (honestly surprising given the reviews I brought the basics and didn't have to use them) there was soap for the dishes with the dish dying rack, plenty of cookware hidden in plain site. Checked the bed, carpet, edges window sills, all good ... I think either this place has been judged to harshly, or they learned from there mistakes because I loved my stay, and will defiantly be back read more

The view and price cannot be beat! I hope that the prices remain similar after the remodel. My family has been coming to this location since my grandparents honeymooned here in 1958. So many memories! The only things I would change are some updated features (possibly in the works with remodel) and instructions on how the fireplace works. We didn't get to have a fire for 2 of the 3 nights we stayed because it didn't work by turning it on with the remote. We had to manually turn it on at the fireplace. read more

First off, I have to compliment Cape Cod Cottages (unit #2) on what a FANTASTIC toaster it has... best I've ever seen or had the pleasure of using - by a mile! And now for the important part... My wife, daughter and myself stayed at the Cape Cod Cottages in Waldport (Unit 2) February 16-19, and our stay was not only disappointing, but also potentially dangerous. The house was equipped with three smoke detectors, none of which were operable. The KIDDE branded smoke detector in the upstairs bedroom had a battery in it that was dated 03/2014, so nearly four years old. The detector had a manufacture date of 4/29/2005 and clearly stated on the back that the unit itself should be replaced every 10 years. The two First Alert detectors (one upstairs and one downstairs) did not have batteries in them at all. None of the smoke detectors in the cottage are hard wired. The light at the top of the stairway would only sometimes work with either switch, indicating that there are likely wiring issues which could cause a fire. In addition, given the steep and narrow design of the staircase, a reliably working light source is critical for safely navigating the staircase. The single panel curtain in the upstairs bedroom was tied in an apparently "decorative" knot upon our arrival. When the knot was removed to deploy the curtain panel, it became evident that the panel itself was too long and fell upon the baseboard heater below it, which is an obvious fire issue. Wooden legs of dining room table are perilously close to the baseboard heater and there is no fire extinguisher in this unit. Neither of the two entry doors has a deadbolt. The front doorknob is the "push and turn right to lock" type that fell out of favor in about 1979, when we discovered as a nation that this mechanism is insufficient for securing even something so paltry as a bathroom door. We tried to contact the on-site management team to address the immediate fire safety issues, however they were not present at the time we checked. We took it upon ourselves to purchase batteries for the smoke detectors, as well as light bulbs for the upstairs bedroom, which were also burned out. The total for these expenditures came to $21.70, which we expect Vacasa will gladly reimburse us for. We replaced the batteries in the two First Alert detectors and verified they were operable prior to reinstalling them. The KIDDE detector remained inoperable even after replacing the battery. Aside from the obvious safety issues, we were very disappointed in our visit to the Cape Cod Cottages. We understand that you shouldn't expect much at this price point, but we found Unit #2 to be dirty, poorly maintained, and under-equipped as well. Cleaning issues: Soap left in shower from previous guest Crumbs in the pantry Bare wooden shelves in the pantry and cupboards weren't clean Mysterious viscous yellow liquid (hopefully just oil) in the oven warming drawer Grime / mold at base of shower (potentially hazardous) Moss actually growing inside window frame in the kitchen General oil film on stove and other horizontal surfaces Sliding door track dirty Window tracks dirty Baseboard heaters need to be dusted / cleaned / vacuumed Maintenance issues: Peeling floor Rotting wood in window frames - especially living / dining area Mold seeping through paint in bathroom (potentially hazardous) Nail heads rusting through window casing in bathroom No vent in bathroom Light switch in stairway operating erratically, potentially a fire safety issue (already mentioned) Calking around bathroom sink needs to be replaced Paint is peeling off baseboard heaters - some are rusting Also, if you plan on cooking here, you should basically bring everything you think you'll need. We spent about $50 (electric skillet, wine glasses, cleaning spray) just to get the kitchen barely usable. These issues were sent to the attention of Vacasa upon our checkout, but we have yet to receive a reply. My suggestion: AVOID AT ALL COSTS read more

I would stay far away from this place, and I urge others to avoid it at all costs. We stayed in unit #3 over the New Years's weekend. We were looking for some place quiet and fairly unpretentious, and felt that the Cape Cod Cottages, based on their website photos, would fit our needs. We were dead wrong. Here are the main issues we had. When we arrived we discovered that the kitchen was absolutely filthy. Every. Single. Dish was dirty: not just a bit of dust or a fingerprint or two, but actual filth: dried food, greasy leftovers, and mold (yes, actual MOLD) was on every dish we looked at: the utensils, the plates, the drinking glasses, the mugs, and the cookware. All dirty. We pulled everything out and scrubbed it all in soapy water before using any of it. The furniture in the living room was not only uncomfortable, but one chair had a spring poking through the seat and a bent leg that made it clearly unsafe to sit on. That left seating for three people, when we were a family of four. The light bulb in the upstairs bedroom was burnt out. There was black mold in the shower stall. The television required three remote controls to operate: one for the power, one to change the channel, one to change the volume. At first we found that funny, after 3 days it was tiresome and frustrating. The gas fireplace did not work when we arrived. There were two outlets in the living room, one was covered in a strip of duct tape and did not work. This made charging devices and running our laptop problematic. The first day there was a housekeeper on site, and she sent a maintenance man over to fix the fireplace. While both of them were kind and courteous, it was the only time we saw them so we were unable to make our further concerns known. Finally, I emailed Vacasa, the management company, about these issues and received no reply. I don't consider clean dishes and undamaged furniture to particularly outrageous demands. If the above issues were not extant we would have likely enjoyed our stay immensely: The view of the sea is wonderful and the beach access is easy and close to the cottages themselves. There is an electric car charging station on site. The buildings are quiet and we never heard our neighbors. However, the safety and comfort issues were unacceptable. I will never stay at Cap Cod Cottages again. There are better options on the Oregon coast. read more

We loved our stay! We stayed in unit 8 a few weeks ago and were honestly worried it wouldn't really look like the photos but it TOTALLY did! They're doing a lot of construction right now but it didn't affect our stay in any way. We were VERY concerned about cleanliness based on reviews and hoped for the best ready to clean when we arrived if we had to. Fortunately it was clean, updated, and has a lovely view of the ocean! The view is partially obstructed by greenery and the lower cottages still a satisfying and beautiful view. The beds are reasonably comfortable. It's a short walk down the property to a fairly isolated beach. The downsides we experienced were No dry rack for dishes, no wine opener, and having only two chairs at the dining table when the cottage sleeps four. (We had the kids eat at the table while we ate in the living area). These were minor inconveniences so it will not stop us from returning! read more

This was not our first stay at the cottages. We have stayed there many times even before Vacasa bought it out. It's a lovely get away and very affordable. We stayed in unit #2 this time. The cottage has been remodeled, has a wonderfully updated kitchen, bathroom and a cozy memory foam bed. When I was reading the reviews for this unit before I booked it, many people were complaining about the gas fireplace not working. We booked it anyway. When we arrived, it was true about the fireplace not working. I made a quick call to Vacasa's call center and she patched the issue through to their local maintenance crew and within 2 hours they were at our cottage to address the problem. All it needed was to have the pilot light lit. And the for remaining 7 nights we had a cozy fire. Also the WiFi was pretty spotty as was the cell coverage, but Vacasa sent someone out for that too. They restarted the router and our coverage was improved. If you communicate with the proprietors when something is wrong, they can assist you. Vacasa was great about making sure we were satisfied with our stay. We will definitely visit the cottages again, and stay in Unit #2 read more

We stayed in Unit 3 Sept. 2017. The reason for this is primarily for two reasons. First, the c Love seat in room must be at least 10 yrs old. Very dirty and extremely uncomfortable. You are left with wood kitchen chairs to sit in OR bringing in chairs from balcony. Second, bathroom vanity is likely from the 70's. This place is just run down and needs some TLC. I would not recommend. We were given one trial size shampoo and conditioner for three adults and four nights. Everything screams make money and don't invest in customer comfort. read more

Good price for what you get. Paid $75 for Cottage #5 and was pleasantly surprised with the ocean view from our room. It is important to know that all communication is done through e-mail, there is no check-in at a front desk. This can be confusing for first time visitors. The room was pretty warm upon arrival, but we opened up the windows for some fresh air. A nice short walk down to the private beach where you can watch the sunset in the evenings. Not too much to do around town...everything closes very early! read more

We got lucky having never been here before, and selected Cottage #1. Good wi-fi coverage, excellent ocean view, and very nice kitchen, wood stove and large living room. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the cottage was very clean! We will definitely come back. The view from our cottage was exceptional, and the provided Adirondack chairs on the balcony were just right for watching the ocean and beachcombers, and using our iPads. The location is just south of Waldport, so it doesn't take but a few minutes to get to groceries, fuel and other conveniences. With our iPhones we have AT&T, and we had great reception here. read more

Location, location, location. The other reviewers are right that these cottages may have seen better days but the view, the privacy, and the wood burning fireplace more than make up for a little wear and tear. It's true there is no on site manager and the "no vacancy" sign was on during our whole stay, so be sure to call first to make arrangents to get your key and pay for the unit. But the price can't be beat and they're open off season. We had the place to ourselves and it was awesome. read more

Cape Cod Cottages are great vacation rental type units on a beautiful stretch of beach. Our unit (and most of the others, I believe) had a full kitchen, as well as a bedroom. Plenty of space to relax, and great beach access. read more

We stayed in unit 11. The hot tub was perfect, but seating was absolutely terrible. It states in the contract not to rearrange the furniture so we all have links in our necks trying to watch tv. Not to mention the furniture was very uncomfortable. Our son slept on the fold down couch that was worn out to the point his 90 pound body could feel the frame thru the padding, he said he was more comfortable sleeping on the floor. We were warned ahead of time that the wood stove was not working for our 4 day stay so we had to use the furnace heat, not thrilled about that, but we knew before our stay. Two stars for sentimental value only. We love this place, and we have for many years. The good things people say about this place are all true. We have been here and stayed many times. Several years ago the family who owned it sold it and it was taken over by a company. While the place was empty we stayed at other places on our brief trips to the coast. We came back this year to find the following: The only information we could get was printed in a brochure which we downloaded from the company's website. The telephone number given for the company was only ever answered by an answering machine, and the calls were never returned. I did get one email from management. It reiterated the same Incorrect and useless information as in the brochure. Two telephone numbers were given for local management, which is important because the Cottages are far away from the office of the company. Both local management phone numbers were incorrect. In fact there were only 9 digits in each of the two phone numbers. This was a full color 16 page informative brochure telling everything you would need to know, but not correctly. The local management has been courteous and responsive. We learned that the local Management phone numbers belonged to a manager who had quit 3 weeks ago. We only located local management because a worker was here cleaning a room when we arrived, and I asked her how to reach the local management. She was kind and helpful. So were the other two local managers when they returned our calls and texts. We found the television and cable box attached to a power strip. The plug was burned and so was the wall outlet behind the TV set. There will be no TV for us tonight. We are on the second floor. On the balcony the standards of the railing are 6in apart. In one segment three standards are missing, leaving a gap of 24 in. Any small child or pet on this balcony is in serious danger. It is sad to see how low this wonderful place has fallen. We still love it, but I don't think we can stay here while it's owned by this management. It's an old place, and I fear for its future. read more

We stayed in Unit 8 in June of 2019. The online pics of the unit were taken years ago and are false advertising. The bad: It is in need of renovation and new furniture. The fridge was in the living room! The loveseat was old, dingy and very uncomfortable--you have to sit over lumps of springs that have sprung. No screen door to the deck. Only 1 old and uncomfortable chair on the deck. The deck and railing is falling apart and needs paint. The lamp cover in the bedroom was old, yellow & cracked. The carport was filthy with garbage and is too small for a regular size car. If you have questions, there is no one on site, so you have to call or email someone offsite. The good: Close and easy access to the beach. Has a good view of the ocean. Has a small deck you can sit on and look at the ocean. It is rustic but fairly clean inside. They have remodeled some of the other units, so hopefully this one will be done soon. read more

While this unit has 3 beds and technically enough room for 6 people, there is barely enough accommodation for 2 people. The bathroom is teeny tiny, there were only 3 chairs for the table, a small love seat and a side chair. The website photos show a large sofa - don't be fooled. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, flatware and cooking utensils. However they didn't provide even the simplest of basic staples. I've never stayed at a motel or vacation rental that didn't provide coffee, tea, sugar and creamer. Don't plan on eating on the deck. The table provided was badly warped and had a puddle of water sitting on it when we arrived. Even after I dumped the water off the table was so warped you couldn't set anything on it. It was quite warm during our visit and the upstairs bedroom was uncomfortably hot. There is no air conditioning and no fans and no one around to ask for help. When I opened the top of the coffee maker I found an old filter filled with coffee grounds sitting in the machine, which I then chose not to use. Who knows how long it had been there. It made me question the thoroughness of the cleaning. The fireplace was also full of ashes and half burned logs, would have needed a good cleaning in order to start a fire. The whole reservation process is completely impersonal. Everything is done on-line. There is no human contact. Seemed very cold not at all like staying at an AIRBNB or even a motel with a human at the desk who you can talk to. There is a potentially a nice view from the deck, however, directly in front of the deck from unit 3 are a pile of old hot tubs with the wrapping peeling off giving you the view of a junk yard interrupting the aesthetics of the view. Also, don't trust the reviews on their website because after you submit one they send you this disclaimer: "we publish the reviews we find most useful and informative for potential guests on Vacasa.com.
