Dining at Tables of Content restaurant is a remarkably good experience. Dinner took two and a half hours, and I loved every minute of it. It was honestly one of the best meals I've ever had. The setting overlooking the ocean is dreamy. The food is beyond delicious. The service is warm and welcoming. Tonight it started with queso findido with sauteed chilis and mushroom pieces served with freshly-fried tortilla chips. So good. The salad of radicchio, hearts of palm, avocado and hearts of palm was deliciously dressed. Then the entree - an incredible hangar steak. It was served with mashed potatoes and asparagus, under a bed of crispy, delicious onion rings. It was cooked simply and perfectly. I can't tell you enough, it was all delicious. Had dinner last night for the first time at the Sylvia Beach Hotel. We met four others and shared the table with another group of four. None of us were staying at the hotel! The restaurant has one dinner seating at 7pm. We had a reservation but only half the dining room was full on a rainy night in December. I knew we had ordered our entree in advance and figured out that other than drinks, there were no menus. It was really nice, actually, to not spend the first 10 minutes with heads in menus trying to decide what to order. We could just focus on visiting with our friends from out of town! We ordered wine and there was only one gal working the dining room so it took a while to get going. It was quite a long time before we got drinks. Once that was out of the way, however, the rest of the night was perfectly paced. They set a formal table and every piece of silverware got used! We started out with a sourdough bread and butter. Then an every so light and fluffy shrimp bisque that was creamy and delicious. Everything is served family-style so you pass bowls around but they usually brought two so you only had a wait a moment for the bowl to reach you. The dishes are nice too, china and crystal, it's very elegant. Next was a Greek salad with lots of Kalamata olives and feta cheese and slightly sweet dressing that was really good. The romaine lettuce was fresh and crisp. After salad, we were served the main course. Half of the table had ordered steaks, the other half the salmon cakes, and one got a vegetarian entree which was a mushroom souffle. The salmon cakes were pretty amazing. A light breading and flavorful fish with a strong garlic and dill cream. With the entree, there were steamed vegetables and really yummy scalloped potatoes. I like the family style because you can try many things without eating too much but if you have a big appetite, there's always more. Every dish was always cleared before the new round came out and it was very nicely paced. Our gal kept the water poured and made sure we had everything we needed. For dessert, she brought out regular coffee, decaf and hot tea. We had an incredible almond cake with a dollop of pink whipped cream on the side. It was so good! I thought I was too full for dessert but ate every bite. So did everyone else. Overall, a very lovely evening with great food. The dining room as much quieter than many restaurants, too, so we were able to talk to everyone at the table. read more

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of the dinner meal. Started with a delicious, creamy tomato soup that was perfect for our cold winter stay. At first I thought the bread was going to be average, but it was fresh, hearty and chewy at 7:00 p.m. The salad was a bit better than average. The Quinoa cakes were scrumptious, two large portions. The cream sauce a great complement. Rapini was excellent. The potatoes were my least favorite. Coincidently, they were the least touched offering by our table of eight. I'm not a fan of oysters, but absolutely loved the sauce, so perfect with that bread. This pairing alone makes a great meal. The Pot de Creme dessert was super yummy, and again, an ample portion. Wine was spot on. All this, great conversation with strangers, and super service for $28! read more

Just so much fun! The two truths & a lie dinner conversation stimulator was quirky and effective. Communal dinner: price fix at $25 w/ soup, salad and fresh bread. All of which were above par I especially enjoyed the squash soup. They offer a decent wine list and the bottle of white we ordered was tasty. I had the salmon entree which I liked quite a bit. In "1000 Things to see Before you Die" Honestly, I think I need stop taking restaurant recommendations from this book. The cost is actually very cheap, $25 per person? and the idea of playing 2 truths and 1 lie at a communal table is a good concept but the food fails. The goat cheese dip was tasty but after that the food went downhill. My fowl (I think is was cornish hen?) was soo dry. My bf's halibut was okay. The sides were just decent. We celebrated our 53rd wedding anniversary on June 25th by having dinner at the Tables of Content. Unfortunately I didn't think about taking any photos, so all I can do is say we had an excellent meal. It started with a baked cheese (Brie?) appetizer, then a green salad, a delicious steak with roast potatoes and dilled green beans. For dessert we had a cheesecake compote with fruit. It was all delicious! Our tablemates were certainly not people we would have chosen, but they were very amusing and I think we all enjoyed ourselves. My only suggestion is that it would be nice if the cheese appetizer could be served so people would know how much to take. In our case, everyone was so polite and afraid of taking too much that there was some left over! I would have loved to have the last piece but didn't want to look like a pig. I don't know how it could be done, but perhaps by scoring the surface into wedges with a sharp knife? A final note: the man who sat next to me and I scraped out every last bit of the salad and shared it! It was good! read more

This restaurant is housed in the basement of Sylvia Beach Hotel. Guests of the hotel are encouraged to dine here at least once during their stay but you can come in off the street and make a reservation for dinner as well. The meals are family-style with each course being shared around the table. But have no fear, there is never a lack of food. In fact, you should expect to be so full that getting up from the table is quite a task. There are generally four entree options and you have to pre-select which one you would like. Then there is an appetizer, salad, one to two sides and dessert. The food is delicious! Also, it is tradition to play two truths and a lie around the table as a way to get to know your dinner guests. The combination of fabulous service, wonderful food and new friendships makes this restaurant a priceless experience. read more

I wish I had been there for dinner. I bet that would have been a 5 star event. I got to town to late and was only staying one night at the Sylvia Beach Hotel. They very kindly include breakfast in the cost of the room, and I was impressed with the spread for a free breakfast. They had a great scramble as the dish of the morning plus an entire table full of fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, desserts, coffee, tea... I had a great, hearty breakfast before I had to leave. The staff was so friendly and attentive. I can't wait to go back for a longer stay, more conversation and hot, spiced wine in the library, and dinner! read more

This was a really fun experience traveling through Newport. The attention to detail and attentiveness of the server was outstanding. Do plan on spending a couple of hours for a leisurely, relaxing dinner because it is not a quick dinner. The food was amazing and fresh. The sunset was beautiful. I love to Yelp! about a great weekend, where everything is surprisingly interconnected! And I know this Yelp could be separated into many reviews and I promise to leave the URL's for every place I mention; but, I'm here to review a restaurant called Tables of Content. My wife and I recently had an incredible time at the beach in Newport, Oregon. We stayed at this quaint little place right on the beach with a view of the ocean, private deck, gas fireplace, and French press coffee in the room, which the hotel (Inn at Nye Beach) supplied from Portland Coffee Company. It was great. But one of the things we didn't expect with our ocean-side view, was how loud the ocean is when trying to sleep! Needless to say, we were up and out on the deck under a full moon which lit up everything as far as the eye could see. It was very surreal. Earlier that afternoon we stepped out to explore the little (very little!) historic town of Nye Beach with shops along every side of a crossroad. Our first stop was a shop called Kitchenware tu tu tu Cottage: tu means "you" in French and Spanish! As we went in, we met the owner Mar Lehrman. He was making an incredible smelling cup of coffee, one of those pour overs, so I immediately offered him four dollar for his cup. But alas, he was making it for his wife who was working at a shop just next door, so jokingly I offered him eight dollars and we had a good laugh. We bought some wooden spoons made from Olive Wood and asked our new fast friend how to find the restaurant we were dining at that evening. He gave us quick directions and explained how we would have this incredible dining experience because his daughter was the executive chef. When you make reservations at The Tables of Contents you have to decide on your choice of entrée by four o'clock the day of your reservation! Very cool. Well, Mr. Mar was right, what a great evening it was. We were seated at a community table for four with a lovely couple visiting from Portland who recently retired from California. The meal was served family-style and was incredibly delicious. The appetizer was a charcuterie board of homemade dried meats, pickles, pate and mushrooms. For the entrée portion, I had the lamb chops with a hazelnut hollandaise sauce and my wife had the salmon cakes. The table was served a turnip potato puree, an arugula, celery root and pomegranate seed salad, and sautéed kale. Dessert consisted of three cocoa-covered truffles, one with fresh ginger, one spicy chocolate and a white chocolate with a hint of fennel. It was a very satisfying meal and I can't wait for many repeat performances in the future. Thank you Tables of Content for being a great part of my extended community. P.S. A couple of things I would like to mention. Rowen Lehrman is the executive chef at Tables of Content restaurant. I was really looking forward to our dinner as my daughter had eaten there in November and raved about her meal. Unfortunately, ours was disappointing. The appetizer was 2 deep fried cheese balls in an apple puree. Who eats deep fried food anymore? Tasty, but you feel it later. Second course was a butter lettuce salad with sprouts, raisins and deep fried cheese crisps. It was very heavy on the acid/vinegar. For the main course I ordered petrale sole. (I had pre-ordered over the phone and did not hear "deep fried". I should have asked for clarification). Sole is such a delicate fish so I assumed lightly pan fried. Very heavy again. Veggies of green beans and roasted potatoes were very good. Dessert was a pannacotta with sour cherries and chocolate sauce on top. There was too much chocolate for my taste, but some may like that. Overall, I would not choose to dine there again. I eat a pretty healthy diet, so I did not expect anything deep fried at that caliber of restaurant. I do wish them luck in this crazy time of Covid. Went here for dinner on Friday night. You have to make a reservation, and select your meal choice by 4 pm, and dinner service is at 7pm. You are seated family style, and you are seated at tables for 6 so that you can enjoy the view. They encourage you to play a game of two lies and a truth, but our table chose to engage in casual conversation. We had an appetizer, salad and bread, entree with sides, and dessert. It was all delicious and well executed. We were so pleased with our meal and the ambiance of the restaurant and hotel. The wine choices and beer selection were on point as well. The meal is extremely reasonably priced, and doesn't include drinks or tip. If you find yourself in Newport, make sure you dine here! read more

We came here last week during our honeymoon and heard the food was amazing , it wasn't. The salad was ok but the main dish was albacore (aka tuna) that was dry and over cooked with no sauce other than some caramelized mushrooms on top that tried to salvage an otherwise uneatable piece of dry fish. For dessert we got a crape studied with apples which was good but overshadowed by more wiped cream than crape . For 28$ per person and you can find much better meals in the area. read more
