Maiden Voyage is owned by a young lady who goes to yard sales, estate sales and the like in Ketchikan and the neighboring areas and gets items to sell at her store. The pleasant clerk that chatted with us explained this. So many strange and interesting things in this store. From gorgeous oil paintings of the harbor to vintage jewelry to tin signs to a skull necklace to rocking chairs to chest of drawers to the American flag art made with shells to books to plates, this shop sells you Ketchikan. Many nautically themed things are for sale here like shells, glass floats, ship paintings, earrings that look like Mermaid jewelry - no idea what kind of metal but no other way to describe it, see pictures. We had enjoyable conversations with the men working there. Yes, the more they sell the more money they make, so pressure selling is expected in a shop geared for tourists. Like we do in most shops we say no thanks, and leave. But we wanted something to commemorate our Alaska cruise, so we took our time. After finding what we wanted, agreeing on the discounts, after finding out we purchased something from their sister store in Sitka, he even subtracted that amount. We know things are marked up, and they still make money with each sale, but in the end, it is our decision to buy or not. Now, we just have to wait for our items to arrive this fall, hopefully.

We didn't buy anything but we're not required to. At the back of the store there serving food, we were surprised we didn't know there was food we asked and they told us it was free. We got some food ate it and my friend continued to look around while I went out to eat my food so I wasn't just standing in the way. Two more of my friend come out and join me while we wait for my other friends to finish looking. The OWNER (I'll include a picture of her lol tell me if that's the owner) came and told us (we're all black by the way) they weren't just giving free food and this was about art. I replied that we did look at the art pieces. I was really shocked because we spend a least 10-15 minutes looking at the art. We made sure the food was free before we took any and I went out side to eat to be respectful just in case I dropped anything on some art pieces. We were the only ones she said this to. It our first time in Ketchikan so to experience this in our first weeks here was so upsetting.

This is a small store that sells the same regular stuff I've seen at other places in Ketchikan with some added beachy items. This is one of the larger junk tourist shops right by the cruise ship docks in Ketchikan. They sell…read morea ton of crap that's made in China, so buyer beware. Some of the goods are local, but not many, and you'll pay a nice markup due to the shop's easily accessed location. The shop is large, clean, spacious, and well organized. This could easily be your one-stop-shop if you're looking for Alaska souvenirs. They have keychains, shot glasses, t-shirts, stuffed animals, tote bags, rain gear, snacks and sweets and more. Sockeye Sam's also has the largest selection of raincoats, umbrellas, and sweatshirts, all staples that a lot of cruisers often forget to pack. I appreciate that the store sells various sundries (Advil, bandaids, etc.) and small toiletries, too. If you're arriving in Ketchikan via cruise ship, you will walk right by this store. They pretty much have everything you need to take goodies to the folks back home. Pro tip: visit a local grocery store if you want to find really cool Alaska souvenirs. I've purchased locally made hot sauces, candies, and other goodies for a fraction of the price that they're sold for in tourist stores like these.
