The man working at this shop chopped my daughters hair off in chunks. We asked for a shoulder length bob, and the length is at her mouth in some pieces. Uneven across the rest, with a variance of 4 inches in the chunks. It looks terrible and will take months to grow out and correct. The salon is also FILTHY. read more

And now a few months later I wanted to go back blonde and I went to my usual hair salon not Capelli, and found out Capelli's used box dye. My hair has terrible chemicals in it that will not come off and I can't go blonde like I usually could because they didn't use professional dye. If it was going to be box dye I wouldve just done it myself at home, not paid over $100 for it. read more

I've been going here for 3 years and I have not been able to find another esthetician better than Maria. Just look at my beautifully shaped eyebrows! They used to look like fat caterpillars! Lol! I found a wonderful stylist (Mahoma), he owns the Capelli Hair Salon at 2330 W Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60618 (773) 755-3822. He is great and the best I have found for my curly hair, he doesn't try to sell you a bunch of products or services you don't need. He knows how to style so the hair isn't crispy and best....he doesn't cut your hair short just to get the curls (I like long pretty spiral curls, that are soft to the touch)!!! The prices won't break the bank, he took the time to show me how to style my hair by myself, at home and I didn't even have to sit in the salon all day! Been going to Mahoma for years! His expertise is hair dye/highlights and of course awesome hair cuts. I always get hair compliments. It doesn't matter what hairstyle I get -- streaks, highlights, long, short, etc. My 12 year old daughter had a hard time adjusting to him when she was younger because she was used to a woman cutting her hair but now that she is entering the teenage years she knows that Mahoma will do a great job. Besides ---my daughter has tons of hair (corse, dry etc) and only he can manage her hair. Only thing that he might need is a bigger team of hair-stylers. As of today, its only him. read more

I started coming here when my old manager had really nice highlights, so I asked her where she got them from and she finally told me here. I literally had to ask her 3 times before she told me! She was apparently trying to keep this place her little secret or something, but I'm spreading the word baby! Mahoma who is the owner has done an exceptional job with my highlights every time. He is so skilled at what he does...I recently told him to do what he wants with my hair to get rid of the red. He said, "Don't worry, I will make it look very pretty." Boy oh boy, he wasn't playing! I get nothing but compliments when I leave his salon. He is the ONLY beautician that I have went to that has been able to lift my naturally black hair to golden brown with caramel highlights. For whatever reason, people have a very difficult time lifting my hair color. I highly recommend him for any dye job! I also love Hector for his hair cuts/blow dries. He will cut your hair and texturize it, then blow dry it AND flat iron your entire head before letting you leave. He is the only person that has gotten my naturally curly hair bone straight and shiny. They really make a wonderful team together. As of yesterday, I just got a keratin treatment there and I didn't even know they did them! I'm very exctied for the outcome so I will keep you posted. Oh and the best part is that their prices are very reasonable!!! Both of them can easily charge what they do at Mario Tricoci or any big name salon, but they simply don't! So I went to try Capelli's based on a review I saw from Julieanna in YELP. It wasn't the experience of a life time, but it wasn't a scary one and I came out with my hair in a somewhat style. I will say that Mahoma will listen to your concerns and will give tips about how to take care of your hair. I recommend a book to him on curly hair to read "Curly Girl" by Lorraine Massey. I hope he will take her ideas when cutting curly hair. I love it when my hair is cut by her method. Good luck out there to all curly heads. I would totally go back for another trim!!! read more

I been coming here for the past year and a half and i absolutely love the service here. I've gone to many salons and no other has given me the quality that this place has. I love that this place has reasonable prices and the owner Mahoma is such a great stylist! He always gives me the results that I want to see! He is not pushy with his products and he always gives you very helpful tips. Also the esthetician, Maria, is great!! I love all her services from the threading, waxing, facials, EVERYTHING she is good at it. She has never disappointed me or any of the people that I have recommended. She takes time to give you what you want. She is extremely nice and very professional! I encourage you to give her a try, trust me you won't regret it! Finally but not least Hector is the go to guy for hairstyles and makeup. He is really good at that and more. He did my sisters hair and makeup for prom and she looked gorgeous! I haven't found an excuse to go with him but I have gone with Mahoma and of course he is also good. Overall I love this place! Capelli's is the best the absolute best! Mahoma knows his stuff. I have changed styles over the last years and I've loved every one. Plus his coloring is amazing. And he always has great tips for hair care and styling. Also can't beat the prices. For the amazing quality of work they provide here their prices are low. Maria, the lovely esthetician, is super-friendly and really takes pride in her work and it shows. She is always on point with the eyebrows, waxing isn't the funnest but she is so gentle that the process is a breeze. She's also a perfectionist which in this field I'm glad she is. Her facials have you falling asleep to her touch. Her facials are so relaxing, you'll forget where you're at. Always has answers and suggestions to skin questions. Review for esthetician services by Maria- I drive here from the northwest suburbs to get my eyebrows threaded by Maria. She is a perfectionist when it comes to them and I won't let anyone else ruin her work! I've also had her use the sugaring method of hair removal for my brazilian. She is EXTREMELY clean with every process and makes sure you are comfortable as possible during the hair removal. Facials are great too and she gives great recommendations on helpful products to use. Maria and the owner of the salon have always been very friendly and I look forward to our hilarious conversations that we tend to have during my visits. I gave two stars because they are friendly and I got my hair washed and styled. I was happy with the results. So I thought why not try a haircut there are pretty good reviews. Let's say I walked in with sweeping shoulder length hair. I asked for a trim to give my hair some shape because I was trying to grow my hair out. Why was the end result chin length hair?????? I left and ended up going to another salon to have my short haircut fixed. The haircut was bad. I think this salon's specialty may be long hair. read more

Do you know what it's like to walk around with NO left eyebrow? I went in just to get an eyebrow wax she used strip wax so after she applied the canvas sheet to my eyebrow the wax must of went upward & rip there goes my eyebrow! When I got up & she gave me a mirror to look at I was said, "OMG!" She acted like nothing was wrong. I told her I came in with a left eyebrow what happened? She still acted like nothing happened & went on talking about how she also does facials. Wth? My bf was there w/me to get a haircut. They made him look like a fifth grader with a dish bowl hair cut.because we're both way too nice we were foolish enough to pay for the crap service we receive but definitely will NEVER go back! Luckily his ugly haircut grew out faster than my eyebrow which took over a month! I was getting the wtf happened look from my co-workers so annoyed from repeating the story over & over. Unfortunately this is one of the worst experiences I have ever had in any kind of beauty/ hair salon ! I will start and finish this post with DO NOT GO TO MARiA ! After 3 years of using Maria for body sugar waxing , always tipping her well , always being nice to her , this is what she did to a regular client who used her for pretty expensive services ! First , the salon is very modest, but that wouldn't be a problem if it didn't seem dirty at all times, I blame Maria she is the female in the salon , whatever you do ,don't go to the bathroom , instead of relaxing or neutral music they listen to Judge Judy and similar type Tv program , if you are not Spanish speaking person , Maria often works on you while she talks to the owner in Spanish , they laugh and it might be about you , but you would never know ! So I think they try only to make their Spanish speaking customers happy ! Back to how Maria treated her longtime client , she is usually late like 15-20 minutes if you come when she begins her shift , which I have gotten used to , I think she lives close by and the owner calls her when her first customer comes in. For me it was every time as I always scheduled the mid day hours , she wouldn't step in the salon before noon to safe her life , as I have asked her to come earlier few times ! I really don't think she even wants the job , definitely does not take it serious after I came at 1.15 pm as agreed , nobody says anything , the owner cuts somebody's hair, Maria's room is closed with the little divider , she does not come out to apologize, ask me if I am ok waiting , would I like to reschedule , I can only hear her talk and giggle with customer inside, 50 minutes later , she comes out without apologizing , walks me in the room where she works, I was really upset , I told her why didn't she let me know she would be late , we got into pretty mild exchange , no voices were raised , as she worked we both didn't say a word, I thought she wouldn't charge after being almost hour late, she did, so I didn't leave tip at all , as I was leaving she didn't say even goodbye ! I am kind of a person who is forgiving and pretty much always avoid confronting if possible , so as I was ready for new appointment I called her , told her I realize it was awkward for the both of us but we have known each other for long time, so I asked her if she has availability, she booked me, only few days later to cancel the appointment in a text less the 24 hours to the scheduled time ( she has done it before) but I should have gotten the hint unfortunately I didn't realize , as she made it sound it was emergency , I texted few days later and she explained in a text that she does not want to give me her services ! I would have never written this post if she said that in that first phone call after the incident what she said in the text ! The only question is if I didn't like her being late, her dirty work room, her Spanish speaking while working on me, why didn't I leave earlier , the answer is because she uses Alexandria sugar wax that I used to use in Europe, my skin does not react good to regular wax ! When I came to Chicago four years ago she was the only one to my knowledge to use Alexandria, good news is that there are few more salons now that use the same product ! As I was using her I never did additional research until her disrespectful behavior , so if you want late , dirty floor, dirty bathroom, questionable towels, cell phone ringing while she works on you while you hear Judge Judy in the back , use Maria ! I have to say one thing the owner seems like cool dude, he does hair and I feel bad writing this about his salon as he shares the space with her ! Maria you are such a disappointment!!!!!!!! Nobody is gonna be ok if you are late 50 minutes and you don't even make big deal to apologize and charge for your service, I was good enough to call back as I thought you were nice person but you are spoiled person who takes the job from somebody who would really appreciate it ! read more

I LOVE going here! I was always that person with curly hair in the front and wavy in the back. I went to salon after salon trying to find someone that could work with my hair and I finally did. Mahoma is a genius. My hair texture has changed for the better ever since I have been going to him. I love my hair straight, so I always get it blowed out and he does an amazing job. He is great & affordable. He also does great coloring as well. He has another stylist now and within the salon, there is a person who does fantastic facials and waxing. Highly recommended. The only drawback is that the place is cash only, but otherwise, great place. read more
