Chris has cut my hair since the "before times" aka pre 2019 Long straight hair: He is EXCELLENT with long hair. It grows out beautifully. Even with my post covid "chop" he was conservative about how much he takes off because he knew I liked the length. I get compliments on my hair and have had other friends w long hair go to him. They get highlights/balayage and it's beautiful. I did have to blow dry and / or straighten it and then recently I wanted to see if I could get my natural waves/curls to do something that looked decent.... So... Wavy/curly layered hair: Wow - this was unexpected and it is a delight!!! I didn't know I could let my hair do what it wants and I love it. He cut some serious layers so the curls could do their thing, helped me with the right product and now I just air dry. Chris is great. He always tries to be conservative with the cuts, has been cautious when I ask for huge, abrupt changes (tells me to try a little and come back if I want more... ). He and Summer are friendly, have great taste in music, the shop is so cool. I want summer to be my interior decorator. Can't recommend enough. read more

I CLEARLY communicated that I like my length and wanted to continue to grow my hair out. My hair shrinks up in the summer humidity, and I asked that the layers be shaped only. WARNING to curly haired friends: Chris cut it wet, took 2-3 inches off when I asked to keep length, and called me "darlin" when I asked him how much he was cutting. Totally unacceptable & inappropriate. It will take at least a year for my hair to grow back. I'm devastated read more

I can count on one hand how many people I have trusted in my life to cut my hair and Chris is one of them. I did my research and found this charming place right down the street from my apartment. I feel like I hit the jackpot. Chris and Summer are so friendly and it feels more like visiting friends in their quaint, artsy cottage that they renovated together (true story, ask them about it) rather than a salon. It IS a "Hair Shop" after all. Summer and Chris take time to understand your needs when you know what you want and help you make good hair decisions when you don't. My hair is fine and is weighed down easily. Chris has taken excellent care of it, giving me an ever so slightly graduated lob (long bob). During my last visit, I opted for natural balayage and I was so impressed with his work I couldn't stop staring in the mirror. As Summer put it after checking out Chris' work, it had "just enough sparkle". I will never leave them. If you're a nervous Nelly about new people touching your hair, have a difficult time describing what you want or are often overwhelmed by the bustle and rush of regular salons (like me). Go here. I moved to Logan about 5 years ago, and always want to support local businesses. I haven't been really wowed by any of the previous places in the area I had tried enough to make a second trip there. After going to Broken Roller, I'll keep going back as long as they'll have me! Great vibe, very relaxed atmosphere with awesome music. I loved everything, including the way my hair turned out! I've been trying to grow out my hair since sophomore year of high school (let's just say that was a while ago), and I NEVER have them take off the amount I want them to. It's always much shorter, and I'm met with a lecture of how if I cut I more, it will grow more. FALSE! Anyways, i didn't have that experience with Chris, and my hair looks great (for me) AND healthy. I've been going to Summer for years (I have crazy curly hair that she understands because hers is the same) and my fiancé (super sensitive skin/scalp) just started going to Chris. I attempted to save a few bucks by getting my hair cut and colored at a random salon in the suburbs near my office. Bad idea. Fortunately Chris at Broken Roller skillfully rescued my challenging mane. He blended and lightened my highlights and I love the golden, natural looking finished product. I've been getting my hair cut by Chris for almost a year now, and I've been happy with my hair ever since. I was with him before Broken Roller opened at his previous salon, and he does such a great job, I had to follow him to the new establishment. Each time I leave, I am pleased with the work he does. Before him, I had been unhappy with the many inconsistent hair stylist I had been trying for years. He'll do exactly what you want, but is also great at suggestions if you are looking for ideas with what to do. Chris is the best! As for the salon itself, I think it is awesome. I have always had very nice hair and would get free cuts from time to time as a hair model for Bumble and bumble, so I never bothered with finding a permanent stylist. Last year I decided I that I had had enough and decided to get my life together and find a stylist. I love Bumble products and live near Broken Roller, so naturally I thought this might be a great salon for me. Boy was I right. Summer's haircuts are UNREAL. I have long, thick, wavy hair and she knew just how to cut it to keep the volume but lose the bulk and give me shape. My hair has never looked this good in my life! I constantly find myself admiring the way it air dries. I'm a month away from my next cut and it still looks as good as when I last got it done. Even my boyfriend has pointed out that these haircuts are better than I've ever had. She's worth every penny! Summer is truly a hair magician and has made my difficult hair easy to manage and given me the ability to reproduce the results at home that she creates in the shop. I am constantly complimented on my color and cut and that is what has kept me a loyal client for so long. Plus her fun and upbeat personality makes it a great overall experience. The ambiance in the salon is warm, comfortable and funky representing the co-owner's artistic flair. The other owner, Chris, radiates a calm vibe that de-stresses me even on my most stressful days. While he hasn't done my hair yet, I wouldn't hesitate to see him in the future. I love supporting small businesses and this one is such a GEM and wonderful addition to the Logan neighborhood. After years of bad cuts of frizzles and triangle head, I came upon Summer at her former salon and have been loyal for years. My curls just lay better now, and it's one thing I don't worry about - wash, air dry and go. Broken Roller is Summer and her husband, Chris' (who is also a lovely person), new venture and it's a wonderful oasis for a haircut. No hustle and bustle with club music thumping in the background. Summer is a curly haired goddess who saved my hair and my life. I spent 25 years fighting my curls, but one visit to Summer was all it took for me to fall in love with them. I've been a loyal customer of hers for around two years and will never go anywhere else. She is on a different level when it comes to cutting textured hair and is a true artist who takes pride in her work. My cuts and colors from her are always beautiful and I am constantly getting compliments on my hair. The shop itself is adorable and is a wonderful representation of both Summer and Chris. It's got such a chill vibe with its exposed brick wall, book sharing library, and record player. They love music and their records and always have good music playing. The environment is so welcoming it feels as though you've stepped into their home. They are both lovely people who are easy going and easy to chat with. One thing I really appreciate is that I never feel pressured to purchase product from them. They have great products that they use and sell, and Summer is always willing to give recommendations. However, not once have I felt uncomfortable or pressured into purchasing. The shop is fairly easy to get to from I 90/94 and street parking is abundant, which is convenient for those who drive. She listens to your needs/wants, she provides useful info and recommendations, and she never tries to 'up-sell' you on unnecessary products or services. I moved out of the Chicago area a few years ago and whenever I am back to visit, I ALWAYS make an appointment with Summer (I have even adjusted my flight details to make sure I can get an appointment with her).
