I had been ripped off horribly by my previous mechanic, who insisted I pay him in cash , to the tune of $3300. James was the first person I spoke to at Capo VW. I had my car towed in and James ( service advisor ) made sure they did a thorough diagnostic evaluation on my car . They sent me a detailed video of the repairs that had been done by the previous mechanic . The fuel injectors had been put in backwards and made my car , extremely dangerous to drive ( gasoline was leaking and if driven , and was flammable ) . They , CAPO VW , mechanic made sure that I understood how driving the car was putting me at risk . Glad I listened to them , They answered all my many questions , and they were so understanding , of what I had gone through with the other mechanic . Previous mechanic was Paul Lentz , Certified Rebuilders in San Clemente . Stay away from Certified Rebuilders, if I had read the reviews of Yelp and Google , I would never have gone there. I have been taking my Jetta to Capistrano VW for several years, so this experience was especially disappointing. In April, I brought my car in for an oil change and annual inspection. After dropping it off at 8:00 a.m., I received no updates all day and had to call near closing time. I was told the work was complete and the car had been washed. When I picked up the vehicle the next day, I was charged $160.95 for the oil change and inspection. However, there was no inspection report in the paperwork and no technician inspection video, both of which are normally provided. A service advisor could not find documentation showing the inspection had been performed and promised that Brad (the service provider that filled my service order) would contact me. He never did. After several unanswered calls, I eventually spoke with Corey, the Service Manager. He confirmed there was no record of an inspection being performed and apologized. He offered to have the inspection completed and include a complimentary car detail if I would give them another chance. When I later called to schedule that appointment, my call was not returned. To make matters worse, shortly afterward my "Change Oil" light began flashing, indicating the reminder had not been reset. Because there was no record of the inspection, the vehicle was not washed as promised, multiple messages went unanswered, and the oil-change reminder was never reset, I was left questioning whether all of the services I paid for had actually been completed, including the oil change. What disappointed me most was not the mistake itself, but the lack of follow-through and communication. After years of being a loyal customer, I expected better. To start and state the positive, I think it is great that they offer Uber drop off and pick up service to their customer. I have taken my car for service to this dealership twice for my current car and both times I have been very unhappy with the level of "service" or the lack of. Luckily for my second visit I got a chance to get service manager involved which made things BETTER. The first time the service advisor provided me a loaner car which was Greatly appreciated. When I got to the dealership to pick up my car, he kept me waiting for good 30 mins while he was calling 4 customers on the phone and taking a break and everything else that he did while I was waiting there. I thought it was so unprofessional of him but I let it go. As for my second time, I made an Appt to bring the car for a light switch fix which they had the part ordered for me in stock and lug nut which they failed to secure last time we came here for a service and fell from tire. The two issues I don't think it would take more than 30 mins to fix. When making an appt I requested a loaner car which I was told it was not gauranteed. Upon arriving at 8:30 in the morning, I was told that they do not have a loaner car eventhough while I was waiting for my uber ride I saw 2 customers dropping their cars off and getting into loaner cars eventhough their appts were after mine AND I did confirm my appt the night before. At around 2:20 I get a call from the advisor that "unfortunately they would not be able to get to the car today and I either have to come pick it up or leave the car overnight"...... When I got to the dealership, I requested again for the lug nut issue to be fixt since it is a safety issue....... And I was told Again "sorry we don't have the technician"....... That is when I asked for the service manager and luckily he was there to save the day and have them take the car back and fix it. If the service manager was not there, this review would have been an 1 or 2 star review for sure....... Honestly considering that my car is a lease and it is coming due in 3 months, you would think they would go above and beyond in their customer service so that customers would come back to sign a new lease with them and then bring the cars back for service and have the process continue for years to come but Nope, I don't think they think that far ahead which ultimately would make more bonus not only for the sales manager, service manager but also for the general manager! This review is for them to realize the opportunity to create a positive customer experience or at least try to..... As a customer I don't have to get the manager involved..... If they had the technician, why they didn't fix my car from the beginning considering that it had been sitting in the lot since 8:30 in the morning?! Maybe just caught them on an off day or need to hire more techs..Car sat for day and a half with no service, advisor was unsure of when a tech would be able to evaluate for timing belt. I brought my Jetta to Capistrano Volkswagen for its 50,000-mile service, which should have been covered under the Volkswagen Care scheduled maintenance plan I purchased when I bought the car in 2022. At check-in, the service advisor informed me that my plan had expired, oddly, that same day and that the 50,000-mile service would not be covered. He told me that if I had come in the day before, it would have been paid for. This made no sense to me, as my car is about 3 1/2 years old and had fewer than 51,000 miles. When I asked what the parameters were for the expiration date, he couldn't explain. I chose to proceed with just an oil change and paid $160 out of pocket (the covered service I was supposed to receive would have been around $400). While waiting at home, I reviewed my contract and confirmed that the plan does not expire until 5 years and 3 months or 56,000 miles, whichever occurs first -- meaning it should still have been valid. When the advisor called to say my car was ready, I raised the discrepancy. He told me that in their system, both the 40,000-mile AND 50,000-mile services showed the same expiration date -- that day -- which is clearly an error. The 40,000 mile is supposed to expire after four years. When I asked how to escalate the issue, I was told to contact Volkswagen Customer Care. I spent over an hour and a half with "Customer Care", only to be given a series of incorrect explanations for why the plan had supposedly expired -- all of which I was able to disprove. The representative refused to acknowledge that the expiration date in their system was wrong and would not escalate the case (she said it would just be denied). Her final claim was that I had already used my 50,000-mile service one week after my 40,000-mile service last year (which makes absolutely no sense). In reality, I had to bring my car in twice for the 40,000-mile service (at VW Long Beach) because a part had to be ordered. I never received the 50,000-mile service. There is no accountability. The dealership directs you to Customer Care, and Customer Care directs you back to the dealership. Meanwhile, I was pushed to purchase this maintenance plan upfront as part of a contract (at VW Long Beach), and now Volkswagen is refusing to honor it. To make matters worse, after completing the oil change, Capistrano Volkswagen sent me a list of nearly $3,000 in "critical" recommended services. This is on a vehicle that has been meticulously maintained and has recently had items like an alignment already completed. Labeling thousands of dollars in add-ons as "critical" under these circumstances feels exaggerated at best and deliberately misleading at worst. How is a customer supposed to trust what their car actually needs when everything is presented as urgent and essential -- even when it clearly isn't? After the contract issue and then this aggressive upsell list, the entire experience left me feeling scammed rather than serviced. Two stars only because the service advisor himself was kind, patient, and professional. Unfortunately, the larger system behind him was not. TL;DR If you buy a VW, skip the Volkswagen Care scheduled maintenance plan, as they won't honor it anyway. read more

The least professional dealership I ever seen. The sales guys on the floor look and behave like teenagers, making you a favor for showing a car and barely discussing the features. The "manager' is too busy to come to the office and is not willing to negotiate any single dollar on the used car price. Also, emphasizing that you will pay some extra cost as well as tax, like I do not know it. In other words they did everything possible to refuse to sell the car. May be a reason that the car was to be sold for somebody special since (a) it had low mileage, (b) was slightly overpriced to fit to the electric Tax deal before Sep.30th, and (c) they definitely did not want to sell it. I would NEVER go to this "dealership" again and will not recommend it to my friends. I would rather go to a different REAL VW dealership. read more

Be careful when buying a used car from this dealership. They will take advantage of you! When I showed up the car I was looking at was fairly dirty even though they knew I was coming a day in advance and they knew how far I drove to get there yet they didn't care to clean it up for me. They sold it to me at KBB's "great condition" and since it was dirty I couldn't see all the scratches and paint defects. It wasn't until I got it home and did a proper detail on it that I saw several paint defects, scratches, and a couple dents. Definitely not great condition. Not to mention the process to buy it was extremely difficult and at one point my sales guy disappeared for 20 minutes without telling me anything. Although it was a pleasure purchasing my vehicle at Capistrano Volkswagen I would highly recommend not getting your vehicle serviced there. Just over a month ago I brought my vehicle in for service asking them to check my transmission and give an overall inspection. I did get a nice service video informing me that I needed a tire and rear brakes, but no mention of transmission. They only had time to give me an oil change cause they told me they wanted to get out early cause it was the weekend. When I paid for my expensive oil change they accidentally over charged me by $200 in which it took weeks to get the money back. Not to mention they referred me to the Chrysler dealership for my future VW needs. Now just over a month later my check engine light came on for the transmission so maybe it's time to call the Chrysler dealership. Do better Capistrano Volkswagen. read more

Horrible service! TAKE YOUR VOLKSWAGEN ANYWHERE ELSE! Capistrano Volkswagen has gone DOWNHILL over the past decade. I've been a customer for almost a decade. Brought my VW Jetta here for service multiple times and had always received excellent service. They had a nice waiting room with wifi, car wash with every service visit. I had since upgraded to a newer Volkswagen, and wanted to bring it in to have an issue looked at while it was still under warranty. Spoke to one of their receptionists who rather than added the newer VW to my customer profile, created a brand new profile for me which took nearly 30 minutes on the phone while she figured out the dealership's interface. When we were done, she scheduled me two weeks out with Brad Johnson. Brad is a complete nightmare to deal with. I've never met anyone so UNPROFESSIONAL, and CAPO VW harboring such a horrible "service advisor" makes them equally guilty. I've left countless messages with phone receptionists to have Brad call me back to confirm my VW is still under warranty. Countless messages over the past two weeks. Not one return phone call. Should not take anymore than 1-2 business days to return a customer's phone call. I'm not fond of driving all the way down to San Juan Capistrano without confirmation that my car is still under the warranty. It's not that hard for a dealership to look that information up either. I work at a hospital and lately with everything going on, it's hard to find time off to take care of car stuff, so when I make an appointment for a car servicing, I try to get as much of the "important stuff" addressed (such as warranty coverage) - before making the trip down. I used to make the drive down to CAPO VW - passing along 3 or 4 other VW dealerships along the way because the service USED to be good. This recent experience does really prove that the old saying "all good things must come to an end" is true. Miles Brandon, fix your service team. This is not an isolated event. Search this page for other reviews calling out Brad's "professionalism". Capo VW's motto is "Smileage guaranteed". The folks at Capistrano Volkswagen are professional, competent, and friendly. I'm speaking from experience. I purchased my 2003 GTI VR6 new. It is a great car but not just any tech can work on this model car. I've taken it to no less than 7 shops in Orange County, including the dealers. Fred and Scott went ABOVE and BEYOND to make sure the service was done correctly and on time. Some examples: Neither the brake nor the power steering fluid had ever been changed. Had Scott not noticed how dirty they were who knows what kinds of problems I would have had in the future. He also noticed several other things that needed attention. Not only that but he also mentioned things that were right, like the tire pressure. Little details like that mean a lot to me. After 18 years I have finally found the right place to take my cherished GTI for repair. If I was a shop I would note how these guys do it. I was warned by a friend to not go to Capistrano VW for service. But I had no choice. I purchased a replacement key for our 2011 Jetta and was told I'd be called when it arrived. After three weeks I called and was told, "Oh, it came in two days after you ordered it." Then, I made an appointment for programming and was told we could wait as the process would take an hour. I sent my son with the car and he was stuck for 4 1/2 hours. Completely unacceptable, especially considering that the key+programming was over $400--for a simple key. No one apologized. Purchased a certified pre- owned VW recently. I assumed incorrectly that they would have changed the engine oil, cabinet air filter and provide for a reasonable set of tires, not so much! Engine oil was reported as ok by the service manager; although it was 6 months old, dark and when checking the oil level was down a full quart. The Cabin filter was filthy, which was causing an odd smell in the cabin. Both of these two items needed attention and I had to replace and deal with within 6 months on my dime and time. Tires upon inspection by a tire center were said to be in need of replacement after 6 months and 1,500 miles. Dealerships eventually agreed and paid for most of the four tires being replaced. I now need to deal with the tire alignment expense and time. Maybe my expectations of a certified pre-owned are off base and are unreasonable, you decide. I found a new dealership for service. Ps. Did I mention, I paid a Covid premium for the car and for the CPO, Certified Pre-Owned. I also didn't like having to purchase the cars GPS system for $900, that I discovered when I signed the contract. I still haven't used this system.
