Rafael is very knowledgeable and talented! We were not able to get a 2013 VW bettle engine harness because they are on an infinite back order! Rafael not only fixed the damaged harness, but he discovered why the damage happened and fixed the issue, which was caused under the previous owner. This place is run by honest and intelligent individuals. They are fair, compassionate and highly competent. I've been to dealerships that spend a fortune asking about how I was treated , after the fact. Unfortunately they don't hold a candle to Rubens Imports. Their contribution to others not so well off ( they are constructing an orphanage) is just typical of their caring and compassionate demeanor. I bought a 2014 Porsche Carrera S convertible from JP two weeks ago. He is very personable yet very professional, and I enjoyed the interface with his master mechanic RAFA. They inspected the car for me to show there were no leaks or issues, to show their integrity, about a week after I got the car, the Bose amplifier was causing an issue with the battery, and they promptly found the problem and are sending it back for repair. I look forward to many years of them servicing my car, and I truly recommend them to anyone who wants some straight shooters who are great to deal with . read more

You cannot go wrong bringing your vehicle to Rubens. They are honest, do great work and your vehicle is in good hands. We have brought our S550 in several times and racked up some pretty big bills due to the age of the car. We were getting ready to sell and the starter went out. They fixed that and then called on a Friday morning that the radiator had a leak and had to be repaired. They felt so badly because of the former work we had done to have the car last another year, that they actually put two guys on it, sold the parts at cost and gave us labor at cost. They had the car by close of business for the weekend. Who does that? We will be life long customers and they have earned our respect. read more

Normally don't write reviews deliberately. But Ruben's was really disappointing. Moral of the story they only actually work on what's profitable for them. Took my mint low mileage '01 e430 sedan to get diagnosed for a throttle problem, and after 3 days of little contact and racking up my odometer, they finally determine there is "something wrong with the transmission" and they need double the price of a diagnosis just to look into the whole reason my poor classic was even there. Had a family member bring in their own newer, naturally more unreliable front wheel drive Mercedes sedan for a quick service and they were finished within a few hours, with a conveniently surprising complimentary washed car making the deal seem even sweeter. Both were picked up this morning and the one with an actual problem will be sent to the dealer. Just another one of those shady garages that has hidden biases over their own customer base. They probably were in their heyday 15 or 30 years ago, but after apparently being put under new ownership, those days appear to be long gone. read more

PSA: This is to acknowledge a great customer service experience I had this week with Ruben's car service in Dana Point. I have a car issue that neither the dealer or the computer recognizes. I heard good things about Ruben's so I decided to ask for a second opinion. I left my car there for several days. They repeatedly test drove it trying to recreate the problem. They were friendly, acknowledged me by name every time I called or went in, and took the situation very seriously and counseled me throughout the entire process. I picked up the car today and it was freshly washed and cleaned inside as well. Although they were not able to re-create or identify the problem, they were ultimate professionals, and I intend to return there in the future for all service needs. They had quoted me a price to analyze the issue, but because they were not able to, they waived the fee, which is something my dealer would've never done. They are family- owned and have been in the area for generations. I want to give them a huge shout out today because I believe they went over and above my expectations, which is rare today. read more

My Dad took my 350 ML to Laguna Niguel Mercedes with faulty blinker lights and he was quoted $420 just to have a diagnostic check and estimate before giving him the actual cost of the repair! He had to wait the whole weekend, until they could tell him by Monday afternoon what was wrong. On Monday, fortunately, he discovered Rubens Imports while driving on PCH. He stopped in, was cordially greeted in and was told that his repair would be immediately taken care of and their mechanic after spending over 30 mins working on the lights, repaired the problem and told my Dad that was their courtesy service. So nice to find good people working for good businesses, especially when it comes to auto and mechanic work. I took my Audi to them because the I had an issue that was going to cost way too much to fix at the dealer. They found the problem and were super nice and helpful in helping me get it fixed. Unfortunately the work that needed to be done, they didn't feel comfortable going (taking apart and welding back together) not because they couldn't, but because of how much it would cost me! With so many people out of work these days, added costs in life are not as easy to fix as the once were. They were nice enough to recommend another shop, not of theirs, but a place to get it fixed correctly and cheaper. They barley even charged me for the work they did and for moving and handling my car for a few days. I noticed a used 2011 Mercedes that had a great price, unbelievable low mileage and was a good looking vehicle to boot! I have been taking my 1999 Pontiac Trans Am Firehawk to Reubens for at least 10 years and the service has been exceptional. My car's Service Engine Soon light came on. I brought it in and they told me my A.I.R. pump (smog) needed replacement along with a circuit relay and check valve. There was a $150 diagnostic fee. GM has discontinued making the smog pump which made finding the part replacement difficult. I had the car smog tested( $63) and it passed everything but the functional portion. The car now needed to be checked out by a licensed Star repair shop. Took it to Laguna Auto Service center and they said there would be a $300 diagnostic fee. One day later the car was ready to be picked up. The cause of the failure was the A.I.R. pump fuse was blown($9). The car was smog checked again($63) and it passed with flying colors. Unfortunately Reubens got it very wrong. A $9 fuse cost me $450 in fees and $63 for additional smog test due to the fact Reubens could not diagnose the A.I.R. pumps' blown fuse and instead recommended that I replace parts that were in fact not defective. This is how you lose customers. read more

Recently took my 2005 Dodge Sprinter Van with a 2500 Diesel engine. I was towed to the property after another so called mechanic botched a repair on my turbo.... I have finally found a honest, knowledgable mechanic shop. Rapheal took the time to teach me what was going on when my engine was taken out. Always called to keep me in the loop when something was found and invite me down to take a look... Even though my repairs took some extra time, they had a loaner Mercedes for me to use. What more could you ask for..... I will feel much safer driving cross country, knowing my van was thoroughly gone thru and repaired. They even touched up my hitch and wheels with paint.....no charge.. I will stick with this family run business.......they did great by me...;-) read more

My review is based on 10+ years of getting my cars serviced at Rueben's. In 2008, I moved to Dana Point and my S500 needed service. My neighbors told me about Rueben's and I am very glad that they did. Prior to my move, I took my cars to be serviced by a local mechanic and avoided the high maintenance costs of the MB dealers. Since my 1st visit, I have had all 3 of my cars (an E550 and S550 round out the stable) serviced there and have never been disappointed. The guys are always friendly and professional. At each service visit, I have been provided with an upfront estimate of the total costs. Their techs do a great job and I usually get my car back the same day, even when I don't have an appointment. The local dealerships promote free loaner cars and car washes to lure customers in. Rueben's offers these same services, but the total bill is much less than the costs of a dealership service. The positive experiences that I have had have motivated me to referral several friends there and everyone reports out how happy they are with the service & prices. Two of my friends have even purchased cars from their salesperson, JP. If you own a German car and want to save on the high costs of dealership service and repairs, then Rueben's is the place for you. read more
