Eighteen years ago when I walked into the Hearst Publishing office (Oprah) in NYC to apply for an advertised makeover I was so excited. They loved the angle of someone living on a ranch in Texas and homeschooling their children. I didn't mind going along with that angle because everyone knows (or thinks they know) what happens at makeovers. My 2 front teeth which were missing from birth and the ugly canine incisors were about to be repaired! I was chosen and as I met for the first fitting at the lingerie shop for foundational wear the excitement was peaking. The bra fitting was lovely and so were the 2 new bras we were given. When I went to the next fitting it was for choosing clothes to wear for the photo shoot. They had racks of used clothing, shoes and jewelry to try on to decide just the look they were going for. I told them the only issue I had was because of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome I couldn't stand in high heels. My ankles wobble. They just ignored me and selected the high heels anyway. At this meeting they must have discovered the teeth I was always so careful to hide. They called me later to let me know I would have a car service pick me up early the day of the shoot and take me to a cosmetic dentist (Marc Lowenberg DDS) who would repair my teeth. When I got to the dental office he explained to me that just like Cinderella the teeth would be beautiful for the shoot, but would unfortunately dissolve in 48 hrs. The shoot was so humiliating because I couldn't stand in the stilettos...let alone give them the huge smile they wanted. One of the photographers was kind enough to hold my hand while I stood up in the stilettos to snap the pictures. They were furious I couldn't smile big for the shots...after all I had beautiful teeth now....never mind stand up! All in all it was an hilarious humiliating experience. That experience was 21 years ago. I never stopped praying for my teeth to get fixed. I had no idea when I made the appointment with Dr K by chance that she would be the one to fix my smile. I was mainly concerned that at 68 that I was losing all my teeth! When you have bad teeth the dentist office is the office of shame. I had tried one other time to get them repaired, but after the first $2000 dollars I spent on repairs of the back teeth I discovered the dentist I was told was in my plan was not. After that encounter I just kept praying and with COVID it was hibernation time anyway. So how did I get from Houston to Columbus and Dr K? My daughter became pregnant with Mo-Di twins delivered prematurely after intrauterine surgery at 13 weeks. Her husband decided to move back to Columbus & we moved with the twins at 3 months. Dr K Thank you so much for your skill and ability to give me the smile I've always dreamed of (and will not disappear). I'm still working on smiling confidently, but how exciting it is to know I can smile without shame anymore. For those of you afraid of stepping into the dentist office I highly recommend Dr. K. She's skilled, compassionate and patient. Never give up on your dreams. read more

While I was treated with respect from staff, unfortunately, this office engages in practices that are at best questionable, and at worst, unethical. Like other reviewers, I was told I would need several fillings (4 or 5); when I went to another practice for a second opinion a few months later, they said my teeth were completely fine and no fillings were necessary. The second practice pointed to spots on the X-ray where my enamel is starting to degrade, however, as they explained, drilling and filling is not necessary until the dentin-enamel junction is compromised, and preventing further damage is best done with flossing and brushing. I appreciate a preventive, conservative approach when it comes to my healthcare (as well as not spending unnecessarily), so perhaps Capital City Dental and I are not aligned in our goals and outlook, but to receive such drastically different perspectives on what care I needed was a red flag for sure. Another red flag at this practice was how much they push Invisalign, which in my case was suggested for purely cosmetic reasons; I never mentioned an interest in this, and actually am happy with my smile, so to imply that I need to spend thousands of dollars to "perfect" my smile is ridiculous and a bit insulting. When they mentioned the possibility of doing Invisalign to me, and I declined it, they mentioned it at least two more times (the hygienist and the dentist) AND wrote up a projected payment plan for it. I hate to leave a negative review of a small business, but I left my appointment feeling icky, and like the sole interest of this practice is to make as much money as possible, instead of priotizing patient-centered care. Dr. K runs a great dental practice. It's apparent that she and her staff have fun at their jobs, have camaraderie with one another, and most importantly, they care about you as a patient. I am very satisfied with the providers here. My main person is Chris is who I work with. They are incredible. They are fun and caring. Although I dislike the concept of a dentist. They make the experience enjoyable as best they can. Informative and professional. I feel extremely safe. Most of the staff presents as female which is of note. As a male, men can suck and mansplain concepts which I do not like. This does not take place at Capital City Dental. I could not recommend them more. read more

I felt the need to update my review now, a few years later. I've always hated the dentist office. In fact, when I was a child I hated it so much that I just didn't go for 7 years. As an adult I have actually jumped out of a Dentist's chair and ran out of the front door. It's not something I'm proud of, but it's the truth. Don't get me wrong, I still don't go to the dentist for fun-sies, but I also haven't missed an appointment, and I've signed up for elective things that I wouldn't have done in a million years. I just finished my Invisalign treatment, and Dr.K and her horde of merry tooth fairies made my experience so pleasant. I am ecstatic with my results. I even had a previously chipped tooth redone, and my dental technician took so much time to ask my opinion about it, and was open to making small changes to make sure it matched my other front tooth. Their attention to detail is unmatched. I can't rant and rave enough about this office. Thank you guys so much. read more

I went there as a new patient to get my teeth cleaned. The appointment lasted about 2 hours - but I accredited that to x-rays, photos, etc. I will say that there is a lot of down time in the chair while you wait for the hygienist, then wait again for the doctor - so be prepped for that, but again - it is a small office, so this is expected. But the main reason I won't return after the one visit was the amount of work they suggested I get done. My mom is a hygienist - so although I could never do her job, I do have some familiarity and know when something might not sound right. during my appointment I was informed I would need 2-3 fillings. I was a little bummed, since it would be my first cavity - but i carried on as normal. When I called to pay my bill and schedule my next appointment, they told me I would need 4-5 fillings. I asked for the exact tooth IDs and went and got an immediate second opinion from another dentist. No fillings needed. I have since gone back to a third dentist (due to insurance change) and this dentist said I would need no fillings. You always assume docs know best - but I definitely second guessed this experience, and glad I did! read more

I really enjoyed my appointment with Dr. Kotwani and appreciated her staff. It was a very welcoming environment. I did feel like the extra stuff was pushed a bit and I was also given panoramic X-Rays without being asked and my insurance didn't cover them! I am terrified of the dentist. I've had so many terrible experiences, that it has taken me years to go back. I was terrified to go here, but the staff was amazing. Everyone from the front desk to the dentist was kind and patient. As soon as I told them about my fears and worries, the hygienist immediately found a weighted apron. She said it seemed to help clients that were stressed or scared, and was it OK if she placed it on me. I said sure, and it really did help. They also had the Great British Baking show playing on a monitor directly in front of me to keep my mind focused elsewhere. The hygienist and dentist explained everything they did before they did it. They let me know the pricing for everything before they did anything more then examine and x-ray me. This is the best dental experience I've ever had. This has been by far my best dental experience, and I have been to the dentist a lot. The staff that greets you is pleasant, and I did not have to wait that long. They were able to fix my chipped tooth over my lunch break, and only with a couple of days notice. The doctors are able to explain everything in an easy to understand manner. If I had one complaint it would be to lack of walls between the rooms. read more

Fast and friendly service, and a pretty building. It doesn't have that all-white, sterile feel that some dentists' offices do - it has big windows and tons of photos from around the world on the walls (which are painted colors!). The dentist is friendly and they have a pretty big array of services which I thankfully didn't need to utilize. Cap City Dental are the best. I had gone many years without a dental visit before, and had LOTS of problems with my teeth. On a whim I gave CCD a try and they did not disappoint! Doctor K and her staff helped get my teeth fixed in ways I didn't think were possible. Everyone there was super polite and comforting each and every visit. They outlined exactly what needed done, in a very detailed plan and allowed me to take it home and plan around it. I never felt pressured into doing any procedure I was unsure of. I have the worst time finding a dentist and have recommended this office in the German Village 20 times over since I've started going here. Everyone is incredibly nice, listens, makes suggestions and staff at the front desk explain your charges, and help you understand what is going on. I definitely have a dentist-phobia and and am prone to cavities but they push you to maintain your teeth and have been gentle and considerate every time i've been here. Had a great experience here with Ashley the hygienist and Dr. Szana. Marichelle, at the front desk, is super friendly and the office is warm and inviting. Nothing is more soothing than listening to Michael Bublé while you get your teeth cleaned. Ashley was very good at explaining what she was doing and I appreciated that. They are great to their patients and show it by displaying their travel photos that they bring in all over the office. The office is very easy to find and there is ample parking. I started going to Capital City Dental about 2 years ago when Dr. Tam was still there. She was great. Dr. Dimple Kotwani has since taken over, and she's amazing. I can't say enough about her! She explains everything thoroughly, and she genuinely cares and understands when you have about 100 questions. She has been great to me, and I appreciate all of her hard work and patience. Let's just put it this way, I hadn't had a dentist in over 10 years, and she was able to fix everything at an affordable cost, making it nearly painless too!
