The shop while more of a bespoke suit tailor for men offers wedding alterations. I was there for alterations to my wedding dress. I was able to make the appointment online which was convenient. Brett was personable and suggested a plan of attack given the ample time I have until my spring wedding. First the shoulders will be taken up. That was less than $50. Next he suggested we do the hem (about $200 for a multilayered lace dress). Then the simple bustle will be added to the back for about $150. Finally, I am to come back in February for any final adjustments in case I lose weight. Prices were well in line with my expectations. And my fiancé Paul will be ordering his rental suit from Brett in February. Will update as we get closer to our wedding date. Perfection. I am so glad I chose Capital Custom Clothier over a big chain. Impeccable, personal, friendly service, efficient communication, and competitive prices. I easily booked online and received an appointment notification by email. I needed to rent a tuxedo (jacket, shirt, pants, shoes, pre-tied bowtie, pocket square, studs, and cufflinks) for a formal presentation the following month and didn't know what I wanted. I was given an appropriate recommendation and swiftly had detailed measurements taken. My event was on Friday; Tuesday I received an email so I could schedule the final fitting. I had lost weight between in the month between the measurement and on Wednesday fitting so was suggested that the jacket may be too large. We also discussed if the sleeve length needed to be altered based on my style of presentation--we decided it was good as is. A smaller was shipped to my home Thursday so I could choose (at no extra cost). The smaller jacket was perfect. This was both generous and convenient. Though the parking isn't as bad as others have stated, I didn't have time to drop by to pick up the alternate jacket before my event. I was given a few until Tuesday to return the clothes but elected to return it on Saturday due to my schedule. The tuxedo was a Michael Kors via Jims Formal Wear. It looked great and was comfortable for me to wear all day. For those who care, the pocket square was white polyester. It looked fine but you might want to replace it with something more personal. read more

I remember being skeptical of the measurements (I didn't think I was so fat) but the tux fit was perfect and the staff was very knowledgeable. Ok, so I reviewed capital customs awhile back when I ordered a package deal under the previous management. I have worked with Brett a lot since then and he has been outstanding. I wasn't incredible happy with the service or product from the previous owners, but it is certainly a new era at capital customs now. Brett has been selling custom clothing for many years. Buying a custom fitted suit has always been a desire if mine and I finally had the opportunity to treat myself. I walked in unannounced and Brett was courteous enough to take my consult immediately. The level of attention to detail was astounding and I felt like a king buying my suit. Brett was very helpful in picking out all of the various features and design choices involved in custom suits. His integrity was immediately obvious when he highly recommended a less expensive suit than the one I intended to buy. I have never been so eager to receive a purchase, but the wait only stands to make the excitement and anticipation build. UPDATE: A week earlier than anticipated, I finally received my suit and I must say I'm absolutely astounded. Every single thing about the suit is of the highest quality. You absolutely can tell that the suit you get is made with precision, and care. There were convenient features and additions to the suit often not included in off-the-shelf brands that made it even more versatile and useful than I could have ever hoped. I actually found this business in the Capital Newspaper because they were offering a "Group Deal" I think it was like $50 for $100 towards a purchase. Well this deal did not actually go through, but the owners were nice enough to email me and told me that they would honor the special if I were still interested. Needless to say, I was stoked! So I made an appointment and went in for my measurements and picked out my suit. This was my first time doing a custom suit so it was a brand new experience for me. I had so much fun learning about fabrics and different cuts and all of the different options you can get on a suit. If you are there long enough, you might get a drink! Let me warn you, if you are an indecisive person, you will be in there all day. They have hundreds of different fabrics, styles, lining, buttons to choose from. Its probably best to bring in a picture or an old suit that you like to help facilitate your selection. If I had not known exactly what I wanted I would have been there all day. In addition to the suit I got a couple of custom shirts. Now I'm not a fan of collared shirts, they have never worked for me. But these guys proved me otherwise. I'm already contemplating what my next suit will be. Now I know what you're thinking, custom suits = big $$$$$$ Not here. In fact they have really nice packages for a suit, matching shirt and a tie. Unfortunately they didn't have a package for women suits, so I had to pay a little extra. I ended up getting a suit with a skirt and 2 collared shirts all custom fitted for less than $1000. Beat THAT Nordstrom's! I think I paid about $1000 for one at Nordstrom's WITHOUT tailoring or shirts, and now that suit is falling apart! Oh an parking is a pain. They're on Maryland Ave, which never has parking. You are better off going to a parking garage and walking. Bottom line, this place is worth your time and money if you want to look good in the office. read more

I'll definitely get on the five star bandwagon for this place. It's in a great part of town and, more to the point, it has a great selection of clothing and fabrics. Whatever you need to be the well dressed man - suits sport coats, slacks, shoes, accessories like cufflinks and pocket silks.- it's all available here. Brett is a great guy who really takes pains to get the fit exactly right so they you have clothes that look good and feel comfortable. The key here is to remember the word "Custom". This is not Walmart, Target or Jos. A, Banks. It is going to cost a couple of dollars to look good but it's worth it. I'm a big guy and I just can't go into any store. The "Big and Tall" places don't have the selection or the quality. No question. This is as good as it gets...for the well dressed man. read more

Angie and Brett are wonderful. I went to them with my wedding dress thinking I'd like to have it hemmed. Angie very gently suggested she liked the length and then showed me with a few "chip clips" what she thought might make a difference. OMG, my dress was transformed! Brett and Angie are amazing. Neither my husband nor I had ever gotten a piece of custom clothing made before, let alone suits. His experience was wonderful: he got to choose all sorts of options, and Brett provided excellent guidance and items to consider while choosing (type of customers he'd be dealing with, impression he wanted to make, amount of movement he needed to consider for his job, etc.). I was even able to be involved; it was a great experience for everyone. When he got the items back, he looked better in them than anything I'd ever seen him in before; everything fit perfectly. I walked into Brett's establishment with a sling on one arm, looking shabby and confused, with a random question about how much it would cost to get a tailored suit. I was in the area, getting coffee on a day off, and decided to stop by and satisfy my curiosity about this strange phenomenon of a "tailored suit." Well, Brett treated me like he would a high roller (which I clearly was not). He answered my dumb questions about price, etc with panache and grace. At the end, I left thinking "that guy knows style, and thats a nice guy." Next month, I realize I am in need of a new suit. The conversation with Brett comes back, and I realize that for a marginal increase in cost, I can get the suit of my dreams rather than always wondering what a "tailored suit" fits like. So I go back. Its not cheap, but it was a fair price. With my wife's consent, I got a tailored shirt, suit, and a tie. Not cheap, as I said, but when I tried it on, it was some of the most satisfying cash I've ever spent. He gave me reasonable and conservative recommendations about style, color, etc. I took them all, with the caveat that I wanted a basic suit. He recommended navy blue. I picked out a color I liked. My wife confirmed the choice. We even got some sweet lining (so cool!) for the coat. Then he took my measurements like a pro. He took probably 40 different measurements, and it took about 20 minutes to get everything correct. I felt total confidence in his ability and judgment. 1.5 months later, Brett invited me back to try on the suit. I saw the smirk of satisfaction as he helped me into the coat, saying "well, now that is a nice suit." (Not at all fake and acting as a "salesman" for a crappy suit, Brett seemed genuinely happy about work well done). He went back and picked out a tie (with my wife's help) and came back in, trying it on. He was grinning with excitement. I thought, what a fun job this guy has! - to make people look better than they imagine they could, and to make a living doing it! If you've never tried one a tailored suit before (I had not), you just can't imagine how well it fits. Like a glove. Like no suit you've ever tried. Every angle and pull of the suit and pants is exactly right. I am a bit worried - I'm not sure how I can afford nice suits like this very often, but I'm convinced I can't go back! Do not go to this place if you have anything but a simple hem to do. They ruined my dress. I am a very optimistic person, so at first was hopeful they would work with me to make it right. They even offered a discount for a good review, and at first things seemed like they would get back on track. I have attached photos of the before and after. I wanted the 'V' in the front to be lower, and they told me it would have to be made slightly wider in order to lower the 'V' (understandable). They also told me that they would replace the mesh in the front with a similar mesh. I am pretty sure they used pantyhose. The 'V' was way too wide, and the overlap in the 'mesh' they used showed lines from overlapping. A very upsetting experience, and the follow-up got progressively worse. They don't offer any communications as the alterations are being made, and they said no alterations happen on-site, so I could not come in for any fittings to check the status in order to be sure we were on the same page. Everything became very hostile, and I wasted over $100 for these people to ruin my dress. Beware of this "tailor". read more

I have purchased two suits from Brett to date. One a traditional navy blue go-to & the other a tuxedo. He does a wonderful job at interpreting what you are looking for and guiding you down the path to exactly what you want. The choice of color pallets and fabrics can be a bit daunting if you have not had the opportunity to purchase a custom suit so come in with a decent idea of what you are looking for and price you want to spend - at least $750-$800 (it's worth it people). Outside of that Brett & his wife will take care of the rest. The fit (obviously) and detailing (endless options for stitching, linings, etc.) are all customizable to truly make you stand out from the mundane off the rack options out there. The one downside? Once you buy one be prepared to but multiple more because you'll be hooked. If your still on the fence, walk in an talk to him. I can only give a glowing review but its up to you to go in and see him to fully understand for yourself what it means to have this level of attention devoted to you. read more

Where do I begin? I guess to say that I don't write reviews, good or bad, though I should. I called Capital Custom Clothiers on a Thursday afternoon two days prior to a Saturday evening wedding that weekend. I called one other company in town also, answering machine, good thing. I live in NJ, so stopping by wasn't an option. Spoke with a gentleman named Brett, explained that I had learned earlier in the day that the wedding was "black tie optional" and if possible, wanted to represent. He never hesitated, asked me when I would be in town to pick it up (not til Saturday AM), asked me the basics of what I needed, directed me to the fitting app, I forwarded a couple of photos, exchanged a couple of texts later. Done. Not quite! Get there Saturday morning for my 8:30 am appointment, knocked on the door, there was Brett (who never identified himself as the owner by the way), got me suited up, perfect fit, magnificent tuxedo (I never saw it prior). Then the small talk, lovely family man, beautiful shop, nice products, excellent tailor. Going to be a busy day? Turns out, store was closed for the day!! Why are you closed I ask? It's Saturday! "Well," he says, "today is our 35th wedding anniversary, promised myself to my wife for the day but you sounded like you were in a bind and I wanted to help". Really all I have to say, other than, after 30 minutes with Brett, felt like I was visiting with a life long friend. Also, recommended a great coffee shop 1/2 block away. My wife has a co-worker who is always dressed to the nines. She asked him where he got his finest suits and shirts and we were directed to Brett and Angie at Capital Custom Clothiers. The first time I had a chance to meet Brett was on a snowy morning in January and we made the trek all the way from Fairfax, VA to get started with selecting the cut and cloth of my new suit. It was well worth the winter drive and was a nice date (there are great restaurants and antique shops in Annapolis if you make a day of it). Brett makes creating a suit an enjoyable process and we spent about an hour talking through the type of work I do and the types of customers that I work with and then discussing how to create a suit that will help me to develop the proper impression. It helped a lot to learn that wearing dark colors will help make me look more approachable and a little smaller. The impression you can create with the suits from Brett and Angie at Capital Custom Clothiers is up to you, but they have deep knowledge of fashion and can provide wise feedback on what looks will work and what we want to take a pass on. It seemed like a long few weeks after selecting the materials, paying, and then driving back to Fairfax before the suits arrived. I was so excited to try everything on and get a chance to see how an actual custom suit that would fit my 6'3" big sized frame would feel. The day finally arrived and I got to try on my suit, shirt, and sport coat. I was amazed at how sharp everything feels. My suits actually fit, which makes sense because they are tailored to me. The details are fantastic and it is a fun experience when we are working with their team. Plus, Angie was nice and is working with my better half to develop a suit for her! We can't wait to see it. If you do not wear luxury fashion brands on a daily basis, if you do not have more than one pair of +$600 pair of shoes, and if all you need is a suit or tux for one occasion (i.e. wedding) and most likely will never wear it again, then I guess C.C.C. is the right place for you. This gentleman does not know what he is doing. I ordered a +$200 "custom made" shirt and the end result was just awful. It has about 2 inches of extra fabric everywhere, and Brett told me that he saw no problem with it and on top of that, he gave me the worst answer you could expect from a "custom clothier", he said "my other clients would be very pleased with that fit"...What? other clients?! I am not any other client and that is exactly why I paid for something to fit ME appropriately. Even Nordstrom understand that simple concept. However, I decided to keep the " custom made" shirt while I find someone who could fix it and win my business. Obviously I do not recommend Capital Custom Clothiers, if you have good sense of style, and if you spend at least 1.5K a month in high end clothing. read more

So I was going to an awards show and I ordered a purple suit online in the biggest size I could find (I'm 6'6") and when i got it I was worried, because it swallowed me up & it looked like I was going for a Barney cosplay thing. So I yelped this place and walked in there with my giant purple suit in tow. While I got a couple of raised eyebrows when I walked in (these looks would pale in comparison to the looks I got from the many people I walked past and the multiple people serenading me with their rendition of "Purple Rain" on U Street in DC that night) they were very nice. Brett came in and was like if Don Cheadle decided to be a tailor, very cool. He assured me he would be able to make this thing look good, and true to his word, he did! I can't tell you how many people complimented me on the suit that night, because there were so many, but it wouldn't have been that way if weren't for this man hooking it up!!!
