After reading reviews on here I was scared when my doctor referred me to this office. I am glad I gave it a try rather than be scared off by reviews of others. Nicole at the front desk is fantastic. Always juggling multiple things at once but still super welcoming and helpful. While the Dr. is not super friendly (Im not going to this practice to meet new friends) he is knowledgeable and his change of care from my previous doctor is what got me on the right path to recovery. I wish I had looked up the Yelp reviews before I made an appt at this practice. I would give this practice a zero or a negative rating if I could. EVERYTHING that has been written in these reviews is true - from the deplorable customer service and hygiene to the shady billing practices and being dropped as a patient if you ask a question about a bill, offend the office manager in ANY way, or any other arbitrary imagined offence. I am a retired healthcare worker. I have never seen such awful care in my entire career. I also believe that someone in that office is intentionally bilking insurance companies and patients. I have been going to Capital Eye Care, Delmar Location, for several years. Dr.Kamath is wonderful but the office staff are psycho. I asked them a simple question about their strange Covid policy now in 2024 and the receptionist flipped out and hung up on me. WORST ever service - WORST ever!! I would not recommend going there. I simply scheduled an appointment and over 24 hours in advance called and talked to someone and advised I could not make it *being in the service industry I would never waste someone's time*. I was then billed for the visit, when I called MARYANNE hung up on me, when I called back, Nicole was nice - then gasped for air and then put me on hold... Transferred me to Maryanne who became irate with me for calling back. SERIOUSLY!! I was then advised that If they don't have it recorded or written down - it didn't happen. The most unprofessional place ever. When I arrived I was told I was late but I showed up 5 minutes early. The receptionist told me that would not see me even though there was no one in the waiting room. A week later I received a letter stating that they do not want me as a patient...wow Then received a $50 bill for a NO SHOW. Thats more than the co-pay so unfair ...... read more

This place is absolutely unprofessional. The staff messed up what my appointment was for, then proceeded to be extremely rude to me. I gave them all the information to send the report to the proper doctor and they did not. They sent the report to the wrong doctor, because they were too lazy to update the records or my conditions and even medications. When I called to try to get a release to the doctor I had handed them the information on. They were nasty, rude, and even laughed in the background. They charged me out of pocket for a script. After giving up and moving on, I received a certified letter in the mail informing me they will no longer provide service for me. They still refuse to release me records, and will no longer do anything after 30 days. Not that they are doing anything now. Also, on the certified letter telling me they will no longer provide medical care to me they spelt my name wrong. This is a true testament about how unprofessionally they handle your personal and confidential medical information. I am extremely disappointed. I did like Suresh G. Kamath, MD. If only they could have there staff perform their jobs properly. It was a shame and an extremely stressful situation, while prolonging treatment for a chronic health condition...... read more

Called to schedule an appointment and the receptionist behaved like a petulant child. I attempted to give them some business and their person in the phone drove me and my family away based on their behavior regarding scheduling an appointment. Maybe change careers if you cant provide basic customer service and take new customers. read more

I ended up with an ulcer in my right eye from doing an upgrade for work last week that ended up taking all night. I saw Dr Robinson the next day then 3 days after, was pleased with the care. He scheduled a 3rd follow up appt for a week later,, which I went to today. I basically got grilled at the window when I was checking in, in regards to my balance. By two receptionists at the same time with folks in line behind me. It was embarrassing and unprofessional. I had only been seeing these folks for a week and obviously enough time had not passed for us to even receive a bill. They were calling it a co-pay but I dont have any co-pays. It was so unprofessional I told them to cancel my appt, and that I would not be back, ever. I called and spoke with the office manager when I got home on the phone,, and accomplished nithing more than discovering why unprofessional behavior is allowed at that office. Steer clear. read more

Both my wife AND I, on two separate occasions several months apart, had our insurance billed incorrectly for an amount much greater than what would normally be charged for routine eye exams. Something about tests being coded incorrectly is what my insurance company said, but I thought that it was rather fishy that it happened twice several months apart. They corrected the problem as soon as we pointed it out, but I would certainly scrutinize your bill and what your insurance company is paying out to them just to be sure. Even worse though, the doctor I saw didn't get my prescription right. I purchased two new pairs of glasses based on the prescription that I was given. The left lens on both pairs caused slightly blurry vision and discomfort. I went back to have the doctor verify the prescription and, after a few tests, he confirmed that it was slightly different. Then he actually had the nerve to blame ME for selecting the wrong lens during the refraction test!!! (You know, that's the "Which is clearer, one or two?" test.) I will be finding another eye care provider. I just really don't have a good feeling about this practice. read more

Dr. Robinson did my cataract surgery. That went well. His office staff is not very warm or considerate. They do not seem to take any extra steps at all to help the patient. During the pandemic, there was a problem with my appointment resulting in a bill that they are requiring me to pay. No consideration at all was given to my situation when speaking with the office. I really liked the cleanliness precautions they to took at the office. Everyone wore masks and gloves. A guy came around cleaning chairs and doorknobs. They kept me away from other patients for most of my visit. I saw them cleaning equipment between patients. All patients had to wear masks too. I felt safe. Through the glass enclosure, I watched the office manager/tech enter the restroom with her gloves on, after a few minutes, exit the restroom with gloves on and open door to waiting room. She called my name and escorted to me to a machine and proceeded to start the exam. I stopped her and told her I was very concerned because I watched her come In and out of the bathroom with gloves and then proceed to examine me with the same gloves. She asked me, "how do know if I was using bleach in the bathroom?". Huh? She told me they are required to wear gloves at ALL times because it was CDC guidelines (not true). She snappily changed the gloves without hand washing in between (CDC yes) she continued to justify the practice of wearing same gloves and I told her I just wanted my exam and I would not argue. She invited me to tell the Dr when he came in. Exit tech. Enter Dr (with gloves on). Examined me. I told him about my conversation with his office mangager/tech. He said, "I'll correct it". I proceeded to tell him more of the conversation, he cut me off and said, "I'll correct it", playing the broken record 2 more times to shut me down. No apology offered or respect shown. We both exited the exam room. He entered the next exam room with the same gloves on. Never, ever again will I enter that office or recommend them to anyone I know. read more

Dr Robinson's no grace policy with copays is very cheap and petty and he will lie to you and tell you the policy is somehow not his own making but instead something forced on them by your insurance company. Empire, my state insurance, called his office to make it clear that they do not care or get involved at all in the offices policy on collection of copays.... Your insurance company doesn't care at all if Dr Robinson we're to waive copays altogether. Only Dr Robinson puts the small portion of payment for services, copay, ahead of your healthcare. It is his personal policy to have you sent home without care if you forget your wallet or purse and can't pay at the time of service, regardless of why or how long you've been going to his office. After going to his office for care 5 years he sent me a letter cancelling my service because my copay was $5 short after copay rates increased. Before that he sent me home without care a day I hurried to make it to my appointment when my furnace broke down and I'd been up all night. I forgot my wallet and was sent home... no copay.... No services... no exceptions... no grace... this guy is a dinkus read more

I have been going to Capital Eye Care for a few years. It's changed names a few times over the course of that time and the practitioners have come and gone. Overall, I'm pleased with the level of care I receive, and I currently see Dr. Robinson whose care I trust. No matter how good a doctor is, a medical practice is only as good as its entire staff and the entire experience that a patient has. The stakeholders of any medical office should know this. Unfortunately, I've had to knock this review down a star. Capital Eye Care has implemented a web site (also referred to as their Patient Portal) that allows the patient to do several things on a self-service basis, such as set up appointments, request prescriptions, etc. This is certainly a good service, but I have been trying in frustration for about two weeks to get my prescription for Restasis refilled. My prescription plan has a mail order pharmancy which I use. The mail order pharmacy changed last year from Express Scripts to CVS/Caremark. This change was not reflected in the web site menus that a patient has access to. My messages sent through the portal to Capital Eye Care about this issue went unanswered. So I finally phoned the office and started to explain this and asked for a paper prescription so I could just mail it in myself. MaryAnn curtly replied that "The web site is fine, people are using it every day." Well, it's not fine, so I persisted in trying to explain the problem with MaryAnn cutting me off at every sentence. Finally MaryAnn logged in herself and changed my mail order pharmacy to CVS/Caremark. This option was showing up in her dropdown menus, but not the patient's menus, so I think she got the issue. We'll see if the prescription goes through to my pharmacy now and if it is filled, and if the web site is fixed to allow patients to edit their information in the future. Capital Eye Care needs to work a little harder at customer service and listening skills and not automatically assume the patient is dumb, but otherwise the medical care at this practice is good. read more

Doctor was nice, but receptionist was awful, especially on the phone. Terribly unfriendly to myself and another doctor's office who I needed to transfer records/prescriptions with. Most unhelpful and would not send me my own prescription or offer any means whatsoever of customer service. read more
