I went to capital seafood because the snapper I've gotten from there has been pretty good but I will tell you they offered some that was already filleted. I thought it was convenient so i ordered it. Some good things but some bad things. I got the pic 4 and got Shrimp, cat fish, Scollops +3.00 , Oysters +3.00 . Hush puppies , fried okra. Start with the good. Okra, hush puppies, Shrimp was good, could have been better if I go it there. (Door dash delivery) Green beans were seasoned good but way over cooked. "Scallops" Were actually punched from ray as it has a heavy ammonia flavor. It was heavily seasoned to try to hide the ammonia. Oysters were good but could have been better. Not very fresh but still cooked well not under done or over. The Catfish was not edible, had a strong Clorox cleanser taste. I am glad I ordered a Wing bag that has 3 wings and 3 hushpuppies. The wings were cooked very well not over done at all and still tender. Had a good flavor. Breading was light and seasoned well. The fish did not have a fresh from the water smell...it had a very fishy stinky smell. The texture wasn't firm it was mushy and fell apart. How can they sell fish like this to customers unless they're not in the business of customer satisfaction and pride in their product. I do not recommend. My first impression of of Capital Seafood Market was experienced in two ways, first with my nose, second with my eyes. We went Fourth of July weekend, and upon arrival to the tiny building located across from the Raleigh Farmers Market one is immediately greeted with a strong fishy smell. It's to be expected when you visit a seafood place but I think the small confines of the shop might up the smell. The second impression is clearing the smell from your eyes and seeing the huge row of all different types of fish and seafood on ice. While the variety is not something you see often, I did notice that most of the fish have milky eyes, a sign that it might not be as fresh as stated. I was on a mission for shrimp and purchased a little over half a pound of wild jumbo shrimp, it cost me about $13.00. I was happy with the prices and service we received. They also had a large supply of dried goods if you walk in not knowing what to make for dinner (lots of good ideas--and the staff is willing to give tips as well!) When it comes to the taste of the shrimp, I was disappointed. I love a good homemade shrimp cocktail on a warm summer day and I'll admit we get our wild shrimp was Whole Foods, it's much pricier but is delicious. The flavor of the wild jumbo shrimp at Capital Seafood Market was average, I wouldn't purchase it again for a shrimp cocktail but would recommend it as a cheaper alternative for a pasta or soup. I'd be curious to go back and try some of their fish but won't be rushing back. read more

I love live crabs and they're so hard to find in Raleigh. Especially a place where you can pick the ones you want and place them in the bag yourself. After a lovely visit to the Farmer's Market, we decided to buy some fresh fish for dinner. One of the vendors directed us across the street to Capital Seafood Market. I walked into the place and saw a blue crab on the floor with a man taunting it with a pair of prongs, aggravating it extensively. I felt sorry for the crab, who was obviously thinking it had to defend itself (little does it know where it's going to end up)... This place reeks of fish, and I don't mean a normal reek either. It downright stinks. They had a "small" selection of fish, and some of the employees looked worse for the wear, plus the establishment was dirty. It probably isn't located in the nicest of areas, either, even though it's just a block down from Farmer's Market. I wonder what their inspection grade is...probably a D. I will never step foot into that place again, and unless you've had your Hep A shots, you shouldn't either. read more

I've been a faithful customer of Capital Seafood for many years and have very few complaints over those many years. Pros: Fresh fish, shrimp, scallops, oysters, crabs and slaw. Excellent selection. Excellent fillet skills, skin on or off, steaks, bone-in or butter-flyed, they do it all. Friendly and helpful counter folk. Excellent pricing Condiments Cons: It could stand a good cleaning but Hey, it's a fish market. They carry Atkinson's breader products, They used to carry House Autry which I like better. darn.Darn. DARN! Sadly, I'm Signing off of Capital Seafood and have told my friends and family to do the same. I have been a happy regular customer for over 10 years. I must find a new place to go. Same friendly people, but they have let the maintenance go down so far that it has impacted the quality of the fish! Not only is it mildew-y, but there is a terrible roach problem and noticeably dirt and grime everywhere. I feel icky just standing at the counter. Last week my mom went and there were roaches everywhere! Crawling on the fish. The guys were so busy in the back that they barely could stop to deal with it. She saw one guy take his fish knife and kill a roach with it! Customers were pointing out the different roaches that were crawling around. EWWWW. The employees should not have to work under these conditions. And as a customer, I am repulsed! Owners of Capital Seafood, please close your doors, clean up the place and give your workers a break! The selection isn't as good as what you can find at Earp's down the street, but they are open on Sundays and Mondays when Earp's is closed. That is a nice bonus for me. Their selection is decent and they will fillet your fish or cut you steaks or whatever you's like. I got a beautiful red fish which they filleted for me and it was nice and fresh and delicious! The first time I came to this fish market, it was outstanding! Fish were beautiful, and the scene was great! But this past weekend.....When I walked thru the door, I almost threw up! I was sucker punched by the smell of rotting fish! After talking to one of the employees, he stated they were sooooo busy he didnt take a break at all that day, thus not having a chance to clean the near 2 inches of standing fish water in the back. Mind you it was Saturday and they were very, very busy. But looking at the fish, they looked kinda aged but eyes looked fresh. I got home with my fish and some smelled like AMMONIA!!!!! I cooked them and I never smelled fish like that before that should be fresh. While writing this review, My mouth feels slimey and I feel sick to my stomach ready to earl, while debating rather I should eat my last fish thats cooling. Even my wife felt sick. I am an avid salt water fisherman and know what fresh fish, even a couple of days past caught fish should be like, and what I bought didnt come close. I was hype in the beginning bragging on this market, but now dissapointed feeling sick. I want to come up with an excuse of why my fish was so bad because the employees and everyone was friendly and inviting, but the smell and the quality of my fish really messed me up. I bought at least 5 types of fish, so I couldnt narrow it down to just one.
