Great seafood selection & prices! I came in town for my niece graduation at Duke and so glad I stumbled onto this place! I was in need of Maryland Blue Crabs for a Family BBQ & Graduation Celebration this weekend. I searched all around the Raleigh-Durham area and called around to several locations. Apparently, Maryland blue crabs are hard to come by and find around Raleigh. In steps Earps and so glad I discovered them. Had the best experience buying crabs from Earps! The staff was very helpful and easy to work with....ANDDD ... the prices were great.....$8.99/pound....$130/bushel. The selection was fresh mixed male and females crabs that you choose and can self-serve (pack) yourself or have them packaged for you. In addition, there is a wide selection of fresh fish and shellfish to choose from; including shrimp, scallops, clams and oysters. Forget high supermarket prices for frozen seafood. Come here and check this family owned business out. The establishment is very clean and staff is super friendly! Thanks Earp's for helping this DC- Maryland guy out --who knows good, fresh seafood and Maryland blue crabs when he see them....and these were it! The crabs purchased here were a hit. What a great experience. It's summer so I wanted a little seafood grill. Earp's had beautiful oysters and soft shells crabs. They cleaned my branzino for me as well as the crabs. The store is clean. It was my first visit and the staff was super nice helping me pick things out. They have octopus so I'll be back. You should go too. read more

I believe another Yelp reviewer described Earp's as solid, and I totally agree. If it's been sometime since your last visit, you will notice a lighter brighter experience. A friend introduced us to our favorite fish, and we've not looked back (Black Bass). On first inspection we didn't think the fish was particularly fresh (cloudy eyes), but we were thoroughly impressed. Not sure if the new oven, was impactful - but the fish coated in a Zatarain's breeding was absolutely delicious! Even when reheated the next day on a bed of white bread with hot sauce. Additionally, we discovered Sweet Betsy's hush puppies. Man on Man! If you like your hush puppies light, and sweet this is the brand for you! Finally, we noticed a sign related to EBT transactions. What a fun, unique dinner! We ordered a steamer pot from Earp's Seafood Market on a Saturday evening. We were informed to call them in advance while on our way so that they can assemble the pot. The pot was ready when we arrived and their customer service over the phone and in person was excellent. Our order was accurate and the instructions on the pot were clear. Everything we needed, other than onions, garlic, and butter were included. Based on the menu, we thought the butter and onion would be included. The pot contained ample fresh seafood for us all. I think all we had left was some shrimp. Main suggestion I have is adjusting the cooking times when additional items are added. We added crab legs and they needed longer to cook. By allowing the crab legs to cook fully, the other items overcooked. The pot is tall and gets full, which makes it challenging to mix and remove cooked items leading to items cooking unevenly. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the meal and recommend this establishment to others! read more

This is the best place to get fresh seafood. It does not look like much but do not let that deter you from walking through the doors. I would recommend you bring a small cooler if you are going to purchase fish. They have whole fish and will fillet it they way you want, cut it into steak cut or whatever your little heart desires. They get fresh seafood daily and also supply most of the restaurants in town. Right off the express way , easy in and out ( except rush hour ) . Yes it does smell like fish inside here. read more

We were hosting our first oyster roast and had a lot of questions--and the Earp's crew couldn't have been more helpful. They started by getting some baseline information, like how we were cooking them, how many people we were expecting, what our taste preferences were, etc. And look, I'll be the first to admit that I'm guilty of overbuying for literally everything, but they did a good job of keeping me focused on the right quantity of that morning's Virginia oysters for the number of guests we were expecting. And you know what? They were exactly right. We literally had the perfect amount, and everyone RAVED about the freshness and the quality. Even people who "didn't really like oysters" tried them and came back for more. I have been a longstanding customer of Earps: over 11 years now. Having the opportunity to get to know the family behind the name made the experience personal. Since the sale of the business, I haven't made it down into the area as frequently, but after today's visit I will not be giving my business to Earps anymore. I went in to pick up a few items, two of which were in the pressurized freezer and the handles are broken. I was able to grasp and open the left hand side door, but the plastic was split, and it pinched my finger, causing a puncture underneath the fingernail. When I shared this with the cashier, and told her that she probably should get them fixed, she lamented on how she had already spent time and money on replacing other equipment since the purchase, and those handles were not of her immediate concern. I shared with her that I was well within my right to display concern about my nail and finger, because her not having immediate concern about something that injured a customer was a problem-- and she replied "I am sorry you feel that way..It's still not something I am concerned about." I've never seen another place like this one. On one side you can buy almost any fresh seafood you can think of. On the other you can buy the same great food already cooked. It's the best seafood I've every had too! The plates are so huge too! The insider tip is to call your order in! There isn't any seating so pick your order up and if you CAN wait till you get home great if not enjoy it in your car in the parking lot. I've been a customer for many years. Earp's has the best, freshest fish available anywhere. A truck arrives each morning with delicacies from the coast. Today I got a pound of mahi mahi (dolphin fish) from a fish caught last night. They filleted and skinned it and put it in a bag of ice for transport home. We had a delicious dinner with pan seared pecan encrusted mahi. Fresh cleaned and deveined shrimp straight from the Carolina coast is always available. Whole still moving crabs? No problem. Picked crabmeat? Which would you like lump or claw? Clams , scallops, flounder, red snapper. You name it they have it! You just won't go wrong at this fabulous market. read more

Went today for the first time (We are trying to put fish into our diet at least 1 time a week now). I was pleasantly surprised. the outside doesn't look like much but once inside the staff was helpful and really talked with us about each fish they had, what to expect in flavor as well as they happily let our son look at all the whole fish they had from the heads to the tails again and again and again :) We left quite happy and look forward to going there each week from here on out. Ordered my oysters several days ahead of time and mistakenly did not shop prices. I was advised by staff that 6 adults needed the 35 lb box. I paid for singles and was told they would be washed. At the designated time my oysters were ready for pick up around the back. The card board box leaked smelly water all over my car during the 10 minute drive home. My husband had to hose them down as they were not cleaned. And my girlfriend told me she got oysters from Harris Teeter for half the price. I've learned a few things. 6 people do not need a 35 lb box of oysters. It would serve 8-10 adults easily, even oyster lovers! We have different definitions of "clean." The oysters at Earp's are fresh with very very few that did not open when grilled. They were delicious and a good size. And an oyster roast and a fire in the chiminea on the back deck are great ways to gather with friends and catch up--no matter the price. read more

We buy seafood often from another market so I thought I would give Earp's a try. I was waited on by Ricky and he obviously wasn't in a good mood because I watched him get bitched out by the customer before me. Ricky then kept trying to sell me more than I wanted, such as, I said a pound and a half of swordfish, and he wanted me to take two and a half pounds. Overall, Earp's is more expensive than other markets for what you get, the seafood was average fresh, nothing special, and the service was intimidating because he kept trying to push more fish on the scale. I'm not falling for that old trick and I don't buy from markets that do it- be careful. I'm going back to my usual place. read more

Absolutely the best place in the triangle area to buy seafood. They have a fantastic selection and they will prepare any of the fish however you want it. The fish is always very fresh and the prices are reasonable, about half what you pay at Whole Foods. They do a great business so if you go on Saturday they will probably be jamming, but it is worth a short wait. I just wish they didn't close at 6:00 during the week since it is hard for me to get there from RTP by then. read more

He asked how do I want them cleaned... I have no idea! I think he used a different term actually. But he proceeded to teach me the different ways they could clean and filet the fish, and I selected one. The fresh fish was quite a treat for dinner that night. I'd like to go back and try some of the other seafood and assorted options here. As I recall they had a freezer full of just about anything that swims in addition to the fresh seafood. Be careful with the challenging parking lot, there has got to be a better way to get in and out of that place than the way I did off of South Saunders Street, I hope! read more

I come here every week. I haven't bought fish at the grocery store in over a year. They are friendly, the fish is really fresh and cleaned so well. Almost never get a bone. Don't let the piles of fish confuse you. Tell the counter person the weight you want after cleaning and filet and it's a breeze. The prices are very reasonable for the quality.
