After the sale, I was contacted by my county office telling me that I couldn't register my vehicle until I paid the taxes. It turned out that Capital Toyota didn't include the sales tax into the sale of the vehicle per our agreement, costing me an additional $3,000. Unfortunately, I didn't see their slight-of-hand until a month later. When I contacted Capital Toyota about this, the only response they provided was, "I'm sorry", without any intent to make good on the agreement. read more

Having recently relocated, I needed to establish a new dealership relationship for both service and future vehicle purchases. For the first time in my life, I was refused an oil change because I didn't have an appointment. The response was curt and dismissive--more of an order to leave than a conversation. No friendliness, no effort to accommodate. I was simply handed a card and told to schedule next time. I immediately drove to my second-choice dealership. They acknowledged I'd need to wait, but welcomed me nonetheless. I was in and out within an hour, greeted with a smile and sent off with a wave. The contrast in tone and service was striking. I fully understand the value of appointments--especially for diagnostics or major repairs--and I respect that scheduled customers take priority. But I've never needed an appointment for an oil change, and that flexibility and a positive attitude have won my loyalty every time. It was difficult for us to get the vehicle we wanted outfitted like we wanted. Capital repeatedly tried to get us to settle for options we did NOT want. It was very stressful, but finally got the vehicle we wanted. Today I went in for our 5000 mile tire rotation, another debacle! Vehicle wasn't right when we got it back, and after spending ALL day there we get it back.. and it's closer to perfect (like it was when we pulled in). Steering wheel is still a tiny bit off center.. it was perfect until Capital's service department got ahold of it. The service manager was as nice as he could be- but when he called Will to handle sales. Ugh. No wonder they have such poor reviews. My husband knew way more about the vehicle than Will did. The one we were looking at was already sold, but Will did nothing to gain a customer (because there is a HIGH chance that is our next vehicle). Called ahead and made appointment to have a key and fob made for my SUV. Got there, looked around, employees in service department did not know who or what they were doing. Service guy at computer was rude and made us start from scratch, after I had given information by phone. This took him about 20 minutes, said it would be an hour. Service guys all standing around. Asked if my car had been there before then proceeded to tell me it would be $90 more than what was told to me by phone which would have rounded out to around $300.00. We walked out! Called the receptionist and explained the situation who then sent me back to the same sales people instead of a manager to help be buy a car. The check engine light came on in my 1995 Lexus SC300. I had it towed to Capital because I've always had good service. It was towed on June 2 and I got it back today on August 22. It seems my car's computer was no longer available so they sent it off to be reconditioned. I was given no updates. I finally called the Service Manager and got it back two days after leaving a voicemail. It cost over $2000 for the repair but it looks like my car sat under a tree the whole time. I bought my Tacoma new at Capital Toyota in Chattanooga. It cost over 50K. Toyota overtightened my oil filter during my last oil change. I was not aware they had done that. I couldn't afford to take my truck back to Toyota for this oil change. Even with a Capital Toyota coupon, after tax, it would have cost almost $220 for an oil change and tire rotation. For less than $100, I was able to get the oil changed and the tires rotated at Firestone. However, Firestone could not change the oil filter because it was too tight. They could not get it off. Neither Firestone nor Walmart could remove it. I know the guys at Walmart. They also tried to get it off for me. Finally I had to take my truck back to Capital Toyota. I brought a new Toyota oil filter and a quart of oil to top off the reservoir after they changed the filter. They acted like they could do it for free since it was their fault and I brought extra oil and a new oil filter. Wrong! After they finished, they charged me right at $28. While I was waiting, two different employees of Capital Toyota told me this happens all the time. They assured me, we can take it right off with our special wrench. To me, Capital Toyota in Chattanooga is doing this intentionally because it is happening "all the time." They are making it very difficult to get your oil changed except by them and charging people more than double what places like Firestone charge. Steer clear of this place if you value your time and money. I spent over 4 hours dealing with all this today. read more

The service department here is TRASH. They charged my mother $1900 for an alternator + battery, just for her to get 25 miles down the road and break down again. We already had to spend the night on the way back home to Illinois. Now they're closed until Monday (it's Saturday), and we have to figure it out. 9:00 appointment for an oil change, alternator check and tire pressure. 9:36 message from tech. I was told 1.5 hours. 3 hours later and I'm told they are still charging the battery. Could be 6 hours. Service rep stated. I'll just take my oil change and go home. BUT my rep forgot to input it I am told. I wanted to keep my oil changes to the dealer for credit in caring for the truck. Just give me my truck and I'll go somewhere else. I didn't appreciate the excuses given to me. But I didn't raise my voice and spoke only to two staffers. Long 3.5 hour story short, the last thing I was told was "EVERYONE in the building knew I wasn't happy". It's not that the staff is unfriendly. But suggesting that others spend far more time waiting for completed service than my miserable 3.5 hours was a bit more than I cared to hear. Their cost is higher than others but driving to another dealership would take a day just for an oil change. So waiting for me was my wife. A few hours later, I stopped by and picked up my vehicle with confirmation of completed services. Got on the road and didn't get a chance to review the paperwork until later..... come to find out, my oil was NEVER changed but they did consume one of my factory services in the process. Called to ask why i asked for one thing but received something completely different and was transferred to the service manager's voicemail. Left a message..... crickets. Long story short- their communication from the top to the bottom was lackluster, leaving me with nothing more than wasted time. read more

I told the salesman this and got treated like crap from that point on. He got two trucks for me to test drive, and one only had enough gas to go a couple of miles down road. Brought my Toyota Sienna for service/evaluation after it stopped running. They let me know that the engine was done and had to be replaced. They offered me "$500 cash" for it since I needed to replace it. They had almost no inventory available in our budget, so we had to go to another Toyota dealership to purchase a replacement vehicle. Problem came when Capital Toyota rescinded their offer for the vehicle. They had said "$500 cash," but said later that they weren't offering cash, despite saying cash, but were only willing to offer $500 credit as trade-in if I bought a vehicle from that dealership only, despite their lack of inventory. I may buy Toyotas again in the future, but definitely not from this dealer. Can't buy if they don't carry a selection of vehicles and won't buy if I can't take them at their word. Addended: Additional information regarding this experience: I am a white man and was offered what I regard as a fair price, but when my significant other who is neither white nor male came to accept that offer, she was told they rescinded the offer. It took just one phone call and we got someone else to pay cash at the same original offer price, they came to us to get the vehicle, and they paid in cash. Same vehicle, same condition, same mileage and on the same day: Capital Toyota refused to honor an offer they had made while another company did, and the only difference between when the offer was made and when it was rescinded was the gender and race of the person discussing the offer. read more

We searched for a cross over vehicle online and had identified 6 options within our search criteria. One was at Capital Toyota and others at other dealerships. We reached out to each of the dealership representatives. The agent at Capital (Marquita) was the most responsive and low pressure. In fact, Marquita made our remote experience personal by sharing detailed video of the vehicle and promptly answering all of our questions. Upon arrival at the dealership, Marquita introduced us to the vehicle which we found to be even better in person! While we had other good choices lined up to see during our visit, we opted out as we felt completely cared for by Marquita, were happy with the representation of the vehicle, and were satisfied with the final purchase price. The manager (Shawn) was very thoughtful and offered to reimburse us for the cost of making a second remote key. Shawn also helped us arrive at a price within our limited budget.
