This company is nothing more than an unfeeling factory of gynecologists. I have never experienced anything like this! My teenaged daughter missed a late afternoon appointment due to traffic on the beltway during a storm. Despite living right near a CWC office, the only one with an appointment opening was over a half hour away. She called the office twice from her car to advise of her traffic difficulties. She was scolded over the phone by the office staff and then charged a missed appointment fee. I immediately called the office to explain her predicament and thought we had their understanding. I continue to receive bills for a missed appointment fee but the billing office has claimed they are powerless to remove the charge and said ONLY the office manager, Natasha, has the power to make the adjustment. I have left her 3 messages with no response. There is no recourse within the company to complain about the treatment we received nor to dispute such a charge. This is not the sort of practice anyone should want to put their faith in! read more

My medical history is not too complex, but they have always provided great care: Hysterectomy, suspicious gynecological infection requiring hospitalization, and other issues. Ready to give up on this practice after being loyal with them for over 8 years. 1) they make you go through mobile checkin on your phone prior to your appointments but when you come in, they make you do it again on their kiosk stating that it doesn't transfer over. Why then make us do it? 2) hard to just get an annual exam appointment every single year and they don't schedule much in advance. 3) front desk staff is very short and rude every single time I'm here. 4) doctors aren't being impressive either. They don't bring up an issue with you unless you say something about it although it's known on your scan. read more

The office staff and policies are horrendous! I had an appointment that THEY rescheduled twice. They changed my appointment to the week before my period without asking me. I got my period early overnight, my appointment was the next morning at 11:30. My period was HEAVY. I called to explain what happened and they told me I would have to pay $35 cancellation. I explained again that THEY changed my appointment and now my period came early. You'd think a GYNECOLOGIST office would be more understanding. Whatever, I give up and pay the fee and reschedule for the Springfield office. They call the next week and reschedule my appointment AGAIN. The day before my appointment I realize they scheduled me for the Oakton office. I am not driving 45 minutes bc of their messing up. I call the day before at 9AM to reschedule my appointment for the next day that is at 8:30AM. I am told it's a late cancellation bc of their 24 hour policy. They will charge me $35. LATE CANCELLATION FOR CALLING 30 MINUTES PASSED THE 24 Hours. The absolute audacity to reschedule me twice, mess up the location and then try to charge me bc of 30 minutes?! Not to mention the receptionist acts like she hates her life and it's everyone's else's fault. Cancelled the appointment all together and never going back. read more

I didn't realize that I never updated my initial review from many years ago, even though since that time this practice has seen me through both of my pregnancies and births of my kiddos. I have had plenty of great experiences with Dr. Kiszkiel, Dr. Cothran, and Dr. Foster, and have no complaints about any of them. I've always felt taken care of and really adore the nursing staff at this location. I've had to go into their other locations at times due to scheduling availability and the Springfield location is definitely the best one, IMO. The only OB I haven't loved my interaction with was Dr. Jeffries, who made me feel somewhat weight-shamed towards the end of my first pregnancy. Anyway, I recently had to go in for a quick checkup and their COVID practices seem top-notch. Contactless check-in, kept to their appointment times, I felt safe and secure. My daughter was seen the 1st week of April as she had to be seen in order to schedule an apointment to remove and replace the birth control implant Nexplanon. They told her after the appointment they would get back in touch after insurance approval for them to make the appointment for the Nexplanon replacement. (This is understandable) It has been over a month and still no word. We call and come to find out the provider never sent over the info for the office person to submit to insurance. They gave the number of the office insurance person but you can only leave a message and she has not called back yet. Definitely going to have to find another GYN place as this one seems very disorganized. I am just thankful it was not something that needed immediate assistance and we have alittle leeway. read more

All good experiences so far. Been here twice now and everything has always smoothly. The new office is much nicer than the older one - it's bright and clean and well decorated. You can see from pictures that it has free coffee and tea and a TV. I appreciated the Food Network being on. =) Service is good. I am a fan of the doctors - I've only seen Dr. Emery and no complaints here. Receptionists were nice too. The only thing was the wait time for me was a little long. I waited for about 30-35 mins. before getting called. I guess sometimes it can't be helped but that was a little long in my opinion. Overall though, all good things. read more

I ended up with a birth trauma with this practice. I saw every OB in this practice and I ended up with a random OB named Dr. Barry who gave me an emegency c-section without informing me and my husband. He left me with a trauma that led to postpartum depression that I'm still working on after a year. I found out he also lied about it on the medical record so that I couldn't pursue legal action. Stay away from this practice for your own good. read more

I've had several OB-GYNs throughout the course of my adult life but my meetings with them were so sparse (a PAP smear here or there) it was hard to start a meaningful relationship with them. That is ... until I started the process of trying to get pregnant. It turns out my regular OBGYN who I had been going to for years was not the right fit for me. My friend recommended I go to Dr. Kizkiel who is everything you could want in an OB-GYN. She is educated, warm and just an overall positive force to be around. Her partner, Dr. Cothren is equally as wonderful (she was the one who ultimately helped me deliver my child) and I was happy that towards the end of pregnancy they made me visit both doctors so I could get to know them well. Without writing my entire birth story out I'll just say the following: + A lot of my personal choices regarding birth and the way my care was handled was out of the norm. Dr. Kizkiel was very accommodating in making sure that my questions were answered and that I was handled in a professional manner. + I ended up needing a C-Section *womp*womp* bu Dr. Cothren was nice enough to consider my doula a part of the birth team so she could attend the surgery with me. + All of my appointments started and ended on time. A huge plus especially since I was driving out of my way to meet them. + Even the nursing staff was as nice as can be. There were several times at the beginning of my pregnancy where I called them crying because my pregnancy was not following what the books said I should be experiencing week-by-week and they were kind enough to talk me off the ledge. read more

The doctors are pretty knowledgeable and helpful. That being said, I would not call this office trans friendly. Their paperwork asks for gender and pronouns, yet they used the wrong pronouns the whole time and kept calling me miss and ma'am. I don't correct people when they get my pronouns wrong, but if they have those questions on there, I wish they'd use that information. Not one person working there - including the doctors - used the correct pronouns. I know they looked at the paperwork, because they asked me about my sexuality bc I had put down "other." since I didn't see why it was necessary. (They also looked at me like I had 2 heads when I told them I was pansexual and asked, "what even is that?" Which was thoroughly embarrassing in front of other patients and staff) Not the biggest deal to me so I'll probably keep going here (unless I can find a more trans friendly office, which I'm looking for), but wanted to write this in case other trans folx are looking for a gyno and don't want to have a difficult time and be misgendered. It's partially my fault, as I didn't correct them when they kept calling me miss, but I'd already put it down on the paperwork, which took enough courage as it was. It's nerve-wracking to correct someone on that especially in a waiting room where there are other patients. read more

Not sure what has happened to this office since Capital Women's Care bought out the practice. The receptionists and office staff are very disorganized. If you are looking for immediate response for your needed medical care, you will find this office to be lacking. Between the new doctors and staff, they do not respond to coordination of requested medical information by your insurance company when requested by certain dates. Better training of the front office and communication would be a major improvement. I dislike leaving one star but I can only imagine if I were pregnant and I was in need of care or had questions the problems that might arise due to the disorganization. I usually go to the Oakton office and have no complaints (great office staff and doctors), but I needed to have a sonogram quickly and the Springfield location has the soonest opening. My appointment was at 8 AM, I got there at 7:50, and I waited until 8:30. At that time, I walked up to the front desk to ask how much longer it would be. One woman was on a call with a patient, but the other was just hunched over texting on her cell phone. I stood there a few minutes before the woman talking to a patient stopped her conversation to ask the other girl to help me. At which point, all she said was that my sonographer might be "running a tad behind." Funny enough, right after she went to check, the sonographer came out to get me. At the end of the appointment, they told me to call back for the results in 2 or 3 days! Why not just have someone call me? I called after 3 days and after 4 days, and both times they told me "It doesn't look like the Doctor has read the report yet, so hopefully she can read it tomorrow and someone can get back to you." It is unacceptable to treat patients of any medical practice with a blasé attitude like this; people are waiting for updates on their health and well being. read more

t pains me to say this but I am very upset about what has happened. For many years I consulted a very nice doctor there and even took my daughter to see him. Sadly they filed our insurance claims incorrectly and have refused to correct them. The first time I called, someone in the office said, "We do not resubmit," which is wrong. They have to submit insurance claims correctly. I called the office and the billing office repeatedly. I was told the doctor would call me. He did not. I sent him two emails and a snail mail letter. No response. I am appalled that the staff and the billing office are unwilling to correct their mistakes. These are things that definitely have been covered in the past and should still be covered. I frankly do not know what to do. Do I have to pay for their mistakes? read more

I hesitated to write this review for about two years now, but after a few more interactions with this practice, it just makes me bitter at how awful they are compare to the one I am going to now. I went to this practice for my first child and switched to a different practice for my second because the 95% staff/receptionists have gotten really unfriendly. They stopped smiling and started having really bad customer service. My labor experience with one of the doctor was traumatizing and I would never go back. The doctor was not personable and, when in labor, she seemed to rush my delivery. For example, her shift was over at 6pm and I wasn't dilating as fast as she wanted to so she decided to make me go from 1cm to 3cm by tearing me without notifying me. This is one of my traumatic experiences. I only liked one doctor and I had the opportunity to have her twice for check ups. However, that one doctor is not enough to make me go back to their practice. read more

After a HORRIFYING experience with one obgyn in Virginia, Dr. Cothran and the office staff were like a breath of fresh air! She came recommended to me by a friend and even though I had to wait 3 months to get an appointment to see her it was well worth it! She was straightforward, didn't "sugar coat" the situation, but was also sympathetic and helpful in offering advice based on her medical expertise. I left the office with high hopes instead of major let downs and disappointments (such as my previous experience with a different office). I would definitely recommend (and have!) to others. I had an emergency surgery. Initially, I was put on Short-Term Disability for 3 weeks. When I went to see Dr. Foster (Springfield) for postop follow-up, she extended me for another week on STD. I handed 2 forms to my physician and she said she needed time to look at the papers. I said I needed to have the return-to-work form when I go back to work the following week. The front desk people have always been rude and snippy, especially over the phone. But as a desperate patient, I have tried to ignore it countless times, because I like my physician. Anyway, that day, they said they'll call me when the papers are ready. As expected, I didn't get any call for 2 days. When I followed up, after giving me the roundabout, they said I could pick up the forms. When I went to their office, they made me wait, because they looked like they didn't know what I was asking for. After about 5 mins, they handed me 2 forms. Great! When I went back to work, after over a week, I was told that I won't get paid for the extended week for my STD because no paper was received from my physician's office regarding the extension. I called Capital Women's Care in Springfield, the same unprofessional voice asked me about the said forms & denied the presence of the forms, and to quote her, "We make copies of everything!" Thankfully, I have a habit of making copies of whatever legal forms I have, as well. When I read to her what was written on the forms, the lady over the phone said, "Well, if you don't have access to a fax machine, then come to the office and we will fax it. Because if we don't have a copy, then I doubt it that we faxed a copy to your insurance company." No apologies. It is disheartening that a wonderful group of gynecologists with exceptional bedside manner such as Dr. Cothran, Dr. Foster, and Dr. Couret would lose patients, because they employ incompetent and unprofessional people in their front desk who do not even have the slightest decency to acknowledge their mistakes. read more

Dr Cothran is awesome as are the front desk staff. She's worked very closely with my pcp and specialist due to me being full of surprises! I am so grateful that we have a dr we can trust during this pregnancy, one less thing to worry about. The only downside to this practice is the wait time to be seen. I don't think I've ever waited less than 10min past my appointment time. Usually it's closer to 45-60+. I'm used to waiting since I see a number of specialist and I get it, people are late or some people require more of the doctors time etc. But my husband who comes with me to each appointment works nights and that extra hour wait is an hour he could be sleeping. read more

To say I am disappointed and frustrated is a huge understatement. Had an elective procedure last year that I am still trying to recover from, not physically but financially. Dr. Rothschild suggested a procedure that the office supposedly confirmed was covered by my insurance company. Only problem is, they definitely didn't bring up anesthesia when they called. According to the pamphlet he gave me ahead of time and all the information I collected online, the procedure would take 3-5 minutes and need a local at most. He even assured me after 3 c-sections and a permanent birth control procedure I would be a perfect candidate, especially since the light cramping would be cake for me. The day of the procedure I get into a gown and in walks an anaesthetist to ask me questions about my health. I answer quite confused and wait until the doctor returns to ask about why he was there. He stated he did not like his patients to be awake in case they complained or distracted him. What???? I remind him of our conversation and he reminds me it is covered. Flash forward weeks ahead to when I receive 2 bills from the anesthesia - one for the medicine and one for the person - totaling around $550. Not only was the anesthesia not covered, but they were from out-of-network. Recorded call from doctor's office confirms they never mentioned anesthesia in the prior authorization call. I call the office and they still affirm it is between me and the other office, and suggest perhaps a payment plan since it's a large amount to pay. Lots of calling later - scheduler apologizes for messing up and says she will take care of it, while billing department won't budge. This has gone on over a year! I cannot get a straight answer and now have a lawyer taking care of it, but be mindful of this doctor's office and Dr. Rothschild focusing on unnecessary procedures and unnecessary anesthesia! I had an even longer review typed up, but decided to shorten it--believe me it's much shorter. I've left this practice and transferred to Dr. Glenna Andersen's office at Inova Women's Hospital in Fairfax and I am so glad that I did. Huge difference! I switched because Capital Women's Center: - Is short staffed and the wait time at every appointment was long (last appointment we waited 1hr 45 mins over our appt time before being seen for the sonogram and the an additional 30 minutes before being seen by the Dr) - Terrible communication (lack of follow up phone calls, failure to document in record as promise what test was being recommended so the staff will know which test you are referring too when you call, failure to return phone call when you have questions, doesn't bother to call letting you know something else is needed prior to sending your records over to another office--had my husband to pick it up and deliver my records himself, failure to input correct area code despite the numerous attempts to correct it). - They Rescheduled my 4 month appointment which was the only day I had available. Went 7 weeks before being seen with my newly gained dr's office. Not good when I have a ton of questions re: some markers and other issues and not getting the necessary response back from the dr's office. I am sooooo happy about Dr. Glenna Andersen's office. I immediately noticed a vast difference during my first appointment. I had a list of questions and before I could ask any of them, they had already covered all of my concerns. They are a lot more thorough. They run additional tests. After I had another sonogram done, the doctor called me to follow up and took her time on the phone with me. It wasn't rushed and I was able to ask her other questions. Very Happy! read more

I had been going to this office for approximately 15 years. I love the women that work there. Dr. Emery delivered my son even though my midwife was not able to get there onetime (my son decided to make a very quick appearance). I left the office for about 4 years to follow my nurse practitioner/midwife but am now going back because I could not ask for better doctors. Dr. Cothran is amazing and so very personable. She is very understanding. She and my NP were the ones to get me care when I went through really bad PPD. When I needed a new OB/GYN I did not hesitate to go back to this office even though it is 50mi. away from where I live. Well worth the drive to have someone you trust. read more

This is not the practice for you if you are pregnant. My first experience with them wasn't great. They billed my insurance wrong - as a regular visit and not a prenatal visit. This is unacceptable because it costs significantly more. I spoke to them and they refused to bill it correctly. Second visit, I was experiencing some unpleasant symptoms and since I was only there for blood work, I couldn't talk to the doctor. I explained my symptoms and told the nurse that I thought I may have a UTI or other infection. She responded by telling me that I could tell the doctor at my next visit in 2.5 weeks! I then insisted that I be at least tested to check. She finally gave in and I provided a sample. I was told I would hear back in a day. I called two days later, after I hadn't hear back and they said my results still were not in! I called the next day, nothing. I called the day after, almost a week later, and someone finally told me that the results were negative. What if I had an infection!? A week later, I am experiencing spotting for the first time. I call the office and I am told that they will speak to the doctor and get back to me. After 30 minutes, I haven't heard back and I start having pain. I call the office and they have an automated messaging system telling you the office is closed. The recording does not tell you their lunch hours, nor does their website. Turns out, their lunch is a hour and a half!! I called the on call emergency number and it states that if you don't hear back from someone in 30 minutes, call again. What? Why is there not a live person answering my emergency call? Needless to say, no one called me back in the 30 minutes. I called the office again and this time they are open and am told that they have been on lunch and haven't heard back from the doctor yet. This is my first child and no one should have to wait 2 hours and counting (I still haven't heard back) when you are scared and think there is something wrong. Heading to the ER now and promptly finding a different practice for the remainder of my pregnancy, assuming I am not miscarrying right now. read more

I don't know what the office's policy is about what information needs to be gathered in order to schedule an appointment, but she kept probing me to elaborate about why I wanted to come in. In my mind if you're making an appointment at a women's Dr, the reasons you would need to go in are pretty limited... Anyway she was very unaccommodating regarding scheduling. "Sorry, the Dr is booked that day." I had to ask her "ok, what about the next day?" 3 or 4 times before I finally gave up and said I'd call back. When I did call back I did get to speak to a much more pleasant lady. Still looking forward to scheduling an appointment with this practice, but I can only imagine this woman is a poor representation of their operation. read more

Dr. Cothran and Dr. Kiszkiel cared for me during my recent twin pregnancy. I was referred to them through another physician as well as a friend and switched doctors while newly pregnant based on their glowing referrals. That was the best decision I could have made at the time and I have never looked back. Both doctors provided excellent care and were genuine in their concern for me and my babies. I felt truly important to them each time I met with them (it was frequent) and never doubted that I was in the most capable of hands. During what was at times a stressful pregnancy, they provided excellent medical care balanced with both the humor and compassion that I needed at the time. When I was hospitalized on bedrest, one of the two doctors made the effort to visit me nearly every day. (On the rare day that they themselves could not make it, another doctor from the CWC group did and one was as kind as the next.) What stood out the most during those visits was that they sat down and and spent time talking to me each day. Expectations were clearly set and rapport was always ongoing. To say that I felt like more than a patient to them during those times would be an understatement as the effort put forth and time taken out of their busy schedules will never be forgotten. My husband and I grateful for all that they did for us. I had nothing but positive interactions with the nurses and office staff. The new office is modern and the environment welcoming. Simply put, you are not "just a number" at this practice. Highly recommend! read more

The front desk staff was friendly and welcoming -- even though I was late. I met with Dr. Cothran and I couldn't be happier. I have been going to Dr. Cothran since 2011 and love her. She actually takes time to talk to you about your history and concerns and I don't feel like she is rushing me. They are usually on time but when they are not, it is typically due to an emergency an trying to get patients in to see different doctors. I have been about 20x during the past few years and rarely have to wait longer than 10 minutes. I don't find the receptionists rude as others have commented. On the contrary, they are very warm and welcoming when you walk in and I got to know them very well throughout my pregnancy. They still ask how my son is doing during my appointments and seem to remember me. I have had some billing issues with my insurance company but the staff helped me get it straightened out. I have also seen Dr. Emery and the RN and both are great as well but Dr. Cothran is my favorite. read more
