I researched a number of "detailers" before deciding to move forward with Capital Shine (CS). One of the reasons for my decision was Kimberly, the customer relations person. When I called CS Kimberly answered the phone, she spent time answering all of my questions professionally and even followed up with an email. CS has been in Bussiness for years (over 15) that along with customer reviews further influenced my decision to choose CS. Still until the work was complete I was not sure whether or not I chose the right company. I am from Charlottesville 115 miles from northern VA so it was out of the way for me to have the ceramic coating done at CS. I got a silicone coating on my car with the understanding that it would protect my car from both the weather and "scratches from other people hitting your car." They did a beautiful job and my car looked amazing. They also did a great job cleaning the interior. However, a dog jumped on my door and lightly scratched it. I was told before I booked the service that if I got a scratch, it would be considered a product failure, and that it would be fixed for free. I had to pay to get that fixed, and it doesn't make sense that the coat would protect against car doors hitting it, but not a 20 lb dog. The person who actually applied my coating said I'd been told wrong and offered a discount to help, so this was more likely a marketing misrepresentation than a poor application. However, I felt misled. When my car was involved in a wreck, my insurance company offered to pay to have the coating reapplied, which I declined because I didn't want to give Capitol Shine any more money. read more

Found Capitol Shine on Yelp and used them to remove tint on my BMW 650i convertible before selling it. Excellent customer service, removal was a quick process (they also have a nice waiting area in a commercial building lobby with area WiFi which was convenient so I could continue working while I waited), and the quote they gave me over the phone was the exact price I paid. I hate feeling like I get a quote and then get duped with extra charges, but that wasn't the case here. Would definitely use them again and would recommend them. read more

First time getting my car detailed in years so I went with the full detail and headlight restoration. The headlight covers are sparkling new and the interior/exterior are clean once again. I don't think they missed a crevice or spot. They were responsive with my first contact and provided an accurate estimate in advance of scheduling the appointment. I spent a lot of time researching local options for ceramic coating my new Tesla. Dominic and the team at Capitol Shine did a great job. They didn't try to pitch me or sell more expensive products, but rather talked through pro/con of each option. I did end up having them do paint correction before the coating, which is an additional cost, but they made a strong effort to prepare the car without doing this. UPDATED: 3/17/2015 The owner called and said the car wasn't ready and it was a mistake that they let me checked out. He called and had me rescheduled for a free pick-up, wash+vac again and deliver it back to where I live for free of charge. Can't get this kind of service anywhere else. I got the car back looking pristine inside and outside. Both time on the phone, the lady on the phone and Rob (their owner) are extremely polite. These folks are serious about cleaning your car and would do everything to accommodate your needs. This place deserves a 5 stars. 3/13/2015 slightly better than $10 car wash. I have the Wash & Wax. It took roughly 3 hours so I was expecting some really nice stuffs going on. I didn't mind the difficulty of getting there. These are the services: Paint-Safe Hand Wash and Dry (yes) Wipe Trunk and Door Jambs (not really) Clean Wheels and Dress Tires (yes) Clean Windows and Mirrors Inside and Out (some part of the windows not clean, see screenshots) Wipe Dashboard and Console (no, not at all) Bug and Tar Removal (don't know) Clay Bar Surface (don't know) Dress Outside Plastics and Rubber (yes) Hand Wax Exterior (probably) Light Hand Buff (probably) The outside looks clean and shinny. But door jambs and trunk jambs definitely wasn't clean. The wash+wax include the wipe dashboard and console. But my dashboard is still a layer of dust. Inside of the car doesn't seem to be touched at all actually. Overall, it's slightly better than the $10 car wash. But paying $130 for this is ridiculous. read more

According to the business owner "The stains you mentioned on the window were still present when you picked up your vehicle simply because they cannot be removed." Well, I did a little experiment to see if the stain indeed cannot be removed. I used a regular household cleaner and guess what -- I was able to remove the stain within seconds! (see attached pic). As for the other "common signs of plastic that has degraded over time, which is typical in many foreign vehicles (including the Toyota Corolla) that have not been properly maintained over a long period of time." Our car is practically brand new. It's 2 years old. We do not have kids or pets and we don't smoke. The stains on the dashboard and the console are the result of your employee using the wrong cleaning products. Too bad the business owner does't have the decency to admit to that. read more

BEWARE!! This is not the place to have ppf or stek or vinyl wrap for your car. The team is cool people and very friendly. They are incompetent even with washes. You pay 100 dollars or 150 dollars for a car wash and if you point something out they say it's the customer being difficult. I had my Porsche Panamera wrapped blue here and they had it for almost 3 weeks. When I tell you they sold me a dream and had Huge expectations I was very disappointed when I got my car. The vinyl looked like it was edged by a 4th grader. I went to 3 wrap shops they said it was very poor work because they made it seem I was being picky. If you pay over 7k you should be picky!!! You should double check your work. TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME I TOOK IT TO PORSCHE AND THEY SHORTED SOMETHING AND IT HAD MANY ERRORS. I recorded the tech talking and sent it to them. The manager said they would fix it but as time passed the wrap was peeling and It had so many imperfections. Bolts missing, taillights misaligned, paint scratches from not using knifeless tape, parts missing. I told them to refund me and remove and I'll give them that they did because they know it was a a poor job and I didn't want to keep bringing it back to get things fixed. Initially I purchased ppf(paint protection film) on the whole front end and they wrapped vinyl over it so that said it's common. I agreed to keep the ppf and they would remove the vinyl wrap. They said it will be good to go when I pick up. I PICKED IT UP THEY MISSED HALF THE PPF ON THE BUMPER AND SAID IT MUST HAVE RIPPED OFF WITH THE VINLY. is there no double or triple checking work here?!?? I messaged them they said bring it by and we will put it on. They said it would have stay a day or two for it to cure. I had work so I said I'd bring it by some time later. Eventually the partial ppf that's on the bumper after a couple days starts to peel up! I told them I'll take my business somewhere else. I asked for a refund and they said no because my bumper had bad paint! WHY WOULD YOU PUT OR LAY ANYTHING ON BAD PAINT! my paint isn't what's bad it's the inability and incompetence of capital Shines team. I have trim pieces missing, bolts missing, too much to list. Do your research before you come here. Pictures will speak more volume. read more

My new WRX was filthy with mud and bugs from a camping trip in the mountains of West Virginia and these guys had her shining brighter than off the showroom floor inside and out for less than $40!! They even got off some "scrapes" on my bumper that I thought was going to definitely require a visit to the body shop! Could not be more pleased and although I'm accustomed to $10 car washes that I had in Florida, I will be returning here and gladly pay extra for the quality of service I received. -My visit was at the courthouse location and my appointment was with Will. -Note that the location is in P3 of the Golds Gym parking garage. Just drive on down and you'll see it. -Budget at least an hour for your car wash, this is not a quick lunch time errand type of place, they put some serious time into the cleaning. -I picked up a date in Rosslyn right after the wash. I brought them two cars for a car wash only, and they did a nice job on both. The only problem was that there was a disagreement about the pricing. Somehow they thought that my Lexus IS was a large car and those cost $10 more than the midsize. I brought this up with their booker over the phone and she agreed to put a $10 credit on my account in spite of not completely agreeing with my estimation of car size. She agreed that a BMW 3 series and the Mercedes C-Class were both midsized cars, but somehow could not agree that the Lexus IS was the same size. As baffling as it all was, I would have preferred my money back, but a credit is the next best thing. The car wash is good, but make sure you look the car over carefully before you leave and discuss pricing prior to handing your keys over to avoid a disagreement like mine. read more

I really wanted to like Capitol Shine. The people were nice and the fit me in last minute which was wonderful. I got a wax & sealant package with an added on engine bay cleaning because I was selling my car. My car is Dark Brown and it came back with what looked like residual blowback from white paint spray. They did a decent job of vacuuming but skipped vacuuming underneath the cargo tray. Also, my window tint in my back passenger came back scratched. I ended up wiping the car down more in a couple of places including the engine bay and am left feeling rather disappointed. The car did shine but I expected more attention to detail. I got the Full Detail and was very satisfied! Much better than the last place I went to. The guys at Capitol Shine were able to get out some wax that had been rubbed into plastic decorative parts of my bumper with a previous detail elsewhere. I also opted for the additional service of headlight restoration. I was skeptical of this service but so far so good, my headlights look crystal clear and I'm very glad I did it. I've been using Capitol Shine for a couple years now and I'm very pleased with their professionalism and overall level of service. I first used them for CeramicPro on my Tesla, which worked out very well. I was also a regular patron of their wash and vacuum service prior to Covid. I just brought my new car in for the first time post-Covid for a detail, and they did a fabulous job (including removal of light stains on the back seat that happened after my dog got sick on a road trip). I found out that they brought back the wash and vacuum service, so I'll definitely be back more regularly. Their hours are somewhat limited, so it's not my weekly car wash option. But it's great to have a detail provider in the area where I know my car will be returned flawless. read more

Went in with basically no clue what I was looking for, and 3 guys basically stopped what they were doing to explain the different tints, what's legal in VA, and answer any other questions. Terrible. They were hard to get any information from them for window tinting then they said I needed an appointment which I was trying to make. Then when we settled on a date and time they said they will send over a confirmation. Then when the confirmation came, I emailed again saying the confirmation was wrong and they said they will fix it and I was set to come in the date and time we agreed on. Well I showed up and the appointment was not set up and they couldn't see me that day and that I needed another appointment after I made arrangements to be there in the morning during the work week. They didn't even reach out or anything to apologize or to try to fix their mistake.... NOTHING. They acted like my business was a inconvenience. I called Sonic Sound down the street to get my windows tinted and they were willing to fit me in that same day. Much better experience than going back here. read more

Had bubbles after completing causing me to come back 45min ride to fix. They were happy to fix it and now it looks good with no issues.

They used to do a fantastic job, but the last time I went (a while ago), they had left stuff all over the hood and front windshield. Unfortunately, I didn't notice right away and by then a car wash couldn't get it off. I now have spots all over my 3 year old Audi that won't come off, including water spots on the windshield? Not sure if it was wax they forgot to wipe off the hood or what, but I had no idea what kind of long term damage they had done until I had a different detailer work on it last week.
