About a month or two ago my bf had something going on with his car and had Derek take a look at it - they found nothing wrong with it (which we still aren't sure what is going on with it- unless we have them look inside$) but he didn't even charge for the diagnosis :) . Then maybe a couple weeks ago, there was a problem with his starter, or so we thought. So we called up Capital Tech and told them it wouldn't start and that it was parked around the corner from them on S.Swann street. He said drop off the keys & he would have someone take a look at it within the hour so we wouldn't have to use our towing service for a .5 mile of a tow. Needless to say it was the battery and they brought a charger to jump start the car to drive it to the shop & contacted my bf with what needed to be done BEFORE they did the work they even offered to put new wipers on while it was in there. Their prices are very fair and they go the extra mile.. or two. I think a lot of businesses now a days forget to go above and beyond for their customers.. and Derek has not. They seem busy but they seem to manage beautifully. read more

The only place to take your cars when they need real mechanics who care about you. I was getting a check engine light and the code pointed towards the thermostat. Capital Tech replaced the thermostat which another garage I went to first (because I knew the owner) refused to do saying it was too much work on my 2008 Mercury Milan. Capital Tech replaced the part the same day I brought it in and told me since they had to remove the power steering pump to get to it that it would make a little noise for a few days because of air bubbles that would work themselves out. After 5 days the noise was still in the steering and I called Derek who had me bring it back in and said they would take care of it. By the end of the day they were done and no more noise! Apparently the air bubble was trapped inside the pump which is why it still made noise. Derek and his team did a great job fixing my car at a reasonable rate and didn't charge anything more to fix the noise issue. I also had a brand new set of rotors for the front that I brought but couldn't get the rotors off and Derek installed them as well. read more

Taking your car to this shop is like having a brother in the business! I live just down the street, and everyone in the neighborhood just loves the owner, Derek, and extols his virtues. He has made all of us his fans. I'm a car collector, and I've been bringing my cars to Derek for almost 10 years. They are excellent mechanics that have an encyclopedic knowledge of even the most exotic cars from antique sports cars to high performance luxury cars, and they are the definition of honesty and fairness. The dealership quoted me $4,000 to replace the catalytic converters and oxygen sensors on my Jaguar, and Derek charged me less than $800...what can I say. I tell all my friends to take their cars to him, and they all thank me profusely afterwards. Derek and his staff couldn't be more courteous, and it's always so refreshing to deal with them. It's like stepping back to a kinder and friendlier place in time. When was the last time that you wondered what to get your mechanic for Christmas after paying your bill? Now and days it is difficult to get an honest and skillful mechanic. I liked what I read on yelp about CTAR and took my mini van to them because my inspection had expired and was also concern that it would not passed inspection because the ABS light was on. I was told that what I needed was a rear sensor and that I would not passed inspection but not because of the ABS light being on but because I needed tires. I knew that what I was being told about the tires was true because in addition to seeing this my self, about a year ago a service mechanic at Walmart told me the same thing when I got my tires rotated. I decided to get my mini van service at CTAR and was very content with their service. I'll take my car to them in the future to get the ABS sensor replaced and I will definitely recommend them to you, my friends, co-workers and family. I hope this review helps. AR read more

I'm a graduate student and, with the mountain of student loans I've accrued, the appearance of car problems is a nightmare! I have had horrible luck with my 2008 CR-V, and with being taken advantage of at the repair shops to which I've gone. I found Capitol Tech Auto Repair online and figured I'd try them after reading the great reviews. My service was completed today and, I am happy to say, that the reviews are correct- I am very satisfied with the service I received! Everyone was very friendly and accommodating, and I feel like the price was extremely reasonable (particularly considering it would be very easy to take advantage of my lack of auto knowledge and girlie complaint that "my car is making a funny noise"). Great shop. I had a warning light on my truck for o2 sensor. I did a quick yelp check and found this shop. The shop called me and told me that the header was leaking. They were very honest and told me that the header or the catalytic converter could cause the problem. They recommended doing the header 1st because it was the most likely cause. They said changing the header could get expensive if they had to pull the engine being that it would be labor intensive. I needed the truck so I gave them the go ahead (giving them card blanch to do up to 3000 worth of work) they got the header in for 1700. A lot of shops would have charged a lot more for this work and taken a lot longer to get it done. These are top shelf mechanics charging a reasonable rate. I recommend them highly. read more

I needed to depend on reviews from this site and I am just as pleased as everyone else! My son goes to UAlbany and he needed a quick repair of replacing a driver side mirror that was taken off due to crowded one way streets in all that snow. Because the car was old, I just wanted a junkyard part or replacement put on so that he could drive home to Long Island safely. I called around and I was disappointed at how much it was going to cost to install. I called Derek, explained my situation, and he had given me a fair price and fixed the car. The mirror looks great. Technically, I can't rate the actual mechanical abilities of the guys who work at Capitol Tech Auto Repair. However, I can tell you they are stand up guys who will not screw you over. I was having very strange electronic difficulties with my car that multiple mechanics had looked at before them. Despite having my car for a full day and charging my completely dry battery back up for me, they did not charge me a single dime for this service. They had not figured out what the actual mystery problem was, so in their eyes they hadn't fixed it and I didn't owe them any money. My son goes to Albany univ and had a prob starting his car. We do not reside within the Albany, NY area however from looking online and reading the reviews for capital Tech Auto , I instructed my son to take the car there. I called earlier and spoke to John, who was very helpful and polite whom I informed him that my son will be bringing his car to be serviced. I went here when I had a sound coming from my vehicle. I could not have asked fro better service. The owner took a test drive with me so I could exactly point out what sound I was talking about. Then the owner sat down with me after his mechanics looked at my car and explained my bill line by line and even showed me the problems with my car so I would know it was true. My vehicle failed safety inspection for a bad tie rod. I brought my car in just before closing on a Monday, they readily took the keys and had my vehicle repair done in less than 24 hours.
