So adorable!!! We had tickets to watch a Hawaiian singer, Anuhea, in Santa Cruz and this was such a great deal and so convenient. I've always seen these cute, colorful units and thought it would be too expensive to stay at. To my surprise, mid week was a great deal! The parking situation was close by and we even were able to check in online and I was able to use my phone to open the door keyless!! The decor is beach and relaxing. I wish I was able to take advantage of the kitchenette, but our stay was so short that we were in and out of there. We had a cup of soup, bread and a beverage in Capitola before heading out to our show. We know now that this is definitely going to be an option for future trips. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. The place is nice but their front desk check in person KERI is rude doesn't know what she doing or talking about, discriminating. Arrived there to stay 1 night to celebrated my daughter's birthday even if it's raining she just wanted to be by the beach so we came across this place, we used Expedia and fully paid it on there which when we check in we're only suppose to give a card to hold incident fees and parking, WELL KERI said we never paid and we need to pay when we check in, she doesn't want to see any proof she said we need to pay and Expedia needs to pay, she accused us that we're refusing to pay and we can find somewhere else. I gave my card and she took the WHOLE amount double charge us, I ask for the number of manager she gave me the name EVELYN and gave me the wrong number. She was texting someone which she said she's texting her manager that I'm refusing to pay once again she already took the funds out of my account. She refused to have her manager call me. Then I Stepped out my mom and daughters went to try to talk to her and she accused them of yelling at her which they didn't it's all on camera my daughter filmed it and it was shown to the police. She told them to leave the office and my mom called the police. The police came she could not explain what credentials mean to the police. I would NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND INCONVENIENCE WE HAD JUST TO STAY HERE FOR 1 NIGHT we needed to get a police involve we stayed there on 4/11-4/12 and called the manager 4/13 and still NEVEr called us back to express any sympathy their employee KERI did. The rooms were surprisingly spacious and we had a great view of the ocean. The gas fireplace was a cozy touch, especially in the winter. The kitchenette was basic, but nice for snacking or making a cup of coffee/tea. The staff were super responsive and helped immediately when we couldn't find an extra blanket and when we had issues turning on the fireplace. Parking is limited to one car, but I found (free!) street parking about half a mile way, away from the madness that is downtown Capitola. The location can't be beat - within walking distance to restaurants, bars, and the beach. Plus, more affordable than a rental house. :) read more

Our stay at the Capitola Venetian Hotel turned into a very disturbing experience due to a serious sanitation issue: bed bugs. During the night, we discovered a bug in the bed and were concerned it might be a bed bug. To confirm, we trapped the bug and showed a staff member on site. Their reaction was extremely concerning--they acknowledged how disturbing the situation was but did not handle it in a way that made us feel the issue was being taken seriously. We immediately reached out to management requesting a refund because this is a serious health and sanitation concern. Instead of addressing the issue responsibly, the manager ( Evelyn ) became rude and dismissive toward us. She said they would contact pest control but refused to refund our stay. The only solution they offered was to move us to another room in the hotel. After discovering bed bugs, we did not feel safe or comfortable staying in any room at the Venetian Hotel. Since leaving, my children and I are now covered in bites, and out of caution we had to dispose of several belongings we brought with us to avoid bringing the infestation home. This situation has been upsetting, stressful, and expensive. We are sharing this review to warn other travelers. Discovering bed bugs and then being treated dismissively when asking for a reasonable resolution made the experience even worse. The Venetian Court is 100 years old and while it has withstood the test of time, there are some structural and upgrades that need to happen to restore the beauty and charm of this historical landmark. The front desk staff were friendly and accompanying, but for the price we paid per night, I was expecting more. My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary getaway and while it was close the village and eateries, the room was in need of an upgrade. The moment we entered into room 126, it smelt of mildew reminiscent to an old rag. We thought it was just the nature of being so close to the ocean, so we kept the sliding door open throughout our stay to ventilate the place. It was nice hearing the waves crash -- a sound machine if you will. The room could also use some deep cleaning. There were cobwebs in the corner, the fixtures in the bathroom had lime scale, and the furniture was just about falling apart. The wood shelves and the base of the sink are also warping from water damage and moisture (see below). The balcony in room 126 was also questionable -- it's slanting and idk how structurally sound it is to have two people chill on it. I didn't want to be a Debbie downer and although it's not the most updated hotel, the proximity, view and parking structure made up for it. Some things to note: - if you're looking for privacy, this may not be the place for you. It's an attraction that gets lots of foot traffic. - Pots, pans, cutlery, plates are not provided for despite there being a kitchenette. While some people might call it Capitola Village, it's really just Capitola Venetian Hotel, a private residence area for travelers and/or hikers & bikers. Fantastic picturesque views as usual. It's always vibrant with colorful architectures, so you won't miss its gorgeous views if looking from the coffeehouse or restaurants on the other side. Yes, the place is unique and easily accessible or walkable around the neighborhoods. They're not as tourist friendly these days in this hotel area, but it's still worth checking out. Quiet and private. Some spots have spacious balconies and you can rent a cabin for vacation which costs much more. If doing AirBnb, you can easily find one hotel for 5-nights around $1800-$1850 USD right now. Comes with full kitchen, bedroom, living-room, bathroom, etc. Laundry room is available onsite. The trees & plants are aggressively growing during Springtime, so yes, there can be bugs or insects flying around. It's still not too bad here, but just remember that it's for private residents only. Saw a few properties here, the larger suites asking for $3 million-$4 million USD. Hispanic workers are constantly painting or remodeling a few spots by the waterfront side. Overall, you really have to walk around to get a feeling about this hotel. There's a parking lot onsite and plenty of street parking elsewhere. Looks pretty decent for now. Best to bring your own stuff, especially for kitchen use if needed instead of paying extra fees here and there. It's an old hotel. read more

It's an optimal location with private parking. The rooms I have stayed in have a full kitchen, so the suites are large. The bedroom where the bed is, is more of a closet for the bed. The kitchen comes without the needed implements to cook with. Not sure if you rent those. The ground floor rooms are subject to the sounds of steps from your upstairs neighbors. The bords creek with every single step. Bring earplugs. The sad part is that then you cannot hear the ocean. Front desk folks are really nice, friendly, informative. If I could rate this place 0 stars, I would. The rooms themselves are okay however the management and front desk staff are less than ideal. At 10pm we were approached by Evelyn who told us that we were expected to be out of the room from 9am (the next to "hopefully around 10" so that they could come in and REMOVE THE TOILET in order to fix the sewer line. I understand that these are rental units however being told less than 12 hours in advance is insane. When we brought this up, Evelyn was extremely rude and instead of facing the issue she just walked away from the conversation stating that it was over. We then attempted to call the front desk where Evelyn answered with attitude and proceeded to hang up after stating that "unfortunately this conversation is going in circles so I'm going to end it now. Goodbye" we've also already had previous problems with another lady at the front desk, Kerri- who at a different point in our stay, told us that we needed to be out of the room from 4-5pm because they would be showing it to prospective buyers. This was again given to us with less than 5 hours notice. We were then expected to clean the whole room ourselves, which we did, just for it to be canceled because the buyers didn't want to come in. Overall, while this is a beautiful location I would never stay here again thanks to my experience with Kerri and Evelyn. read more

During the month of September 2025, we rented a room at the Venetian in Capitola. We were coming in for our anniversary. We have seen the beautiful colors of the Venetian and decided to drive from Nevada. On our way we ran into some traffic issues that required me to call the Venetian and let them know that we would not be there until after 6:00 p.m. The recording said that the front desk was open until 7 pm on weeknights and 9 p.m. on weekends. At around 5:00 p.m. we received a telephone call telling us that if we were not there by 6:30 p.m. there would be no one at the front desk. We told the front desk clerk that we should be there by 6:45 p.m. We were told that there would be someone waiting for us and we were provided the code to the parking lot gate. We arrived at 6:35 p.m. and the front desk was empty. I was sent a link to get into the key box. After getting the key we were given room 136. We entered the room and to our shock there was one bed and it was located in kind of a separate room, but not really separated from the living room. The bed was against the wall and there were shutters that could be opened. The only way to get out of the bed, if you were near the shutters, which I was, is to open the shutters and crawl through to the living room and then I could walk to the bathroom. Being in my mid 60's using the bathroom at night happens a few times each night. We settled in with the plan on talking to the front desk in the morning, our anniversary day. That night I think we got about two hours of sleep. The people above us were loud and dropping things. Crawling out of the window shaped opening, where the shutters are located was moderately difficult, climbing back into bed was even more difficult. We went to the front desk in the morning where we met Ethan. I explained to Ethan the issue and he said that he was aware of the room and was surprised that we were given that room. Ethan moved us into room 133 which was a much better room. After breakfast we were so tired that we went back to the hotel and tried to get a few hours of sleep. That night Margaritaville kept us awake until about 1:00 a.m. with the loud yelling. The Venetian was the second worse hotel that we have ever stayed at in all our travels. If we were able to give it a zero we would. Stay away from this hotel, and I am not even going to mention the parking lot... Horrible. read more

COVID-19... This is the scenario. My boyfriend and I were in need of an isolation change of scenery, bad! Instead of AirBnB's (which had let us down prior) we decided to reserve a beach view room at the Venetian Hotel in Capitola. Being a local from the Bay Area, I am very familiar with the area, and, the city of Capitola is a favorite of mine when it comes to the Northern California coast. I digress. Dawn, who I believe is the hotel manager, was awesome! She let us in the gate and greeted us at the front desk. Super relatable! We checked in and chatted with her for a solid 20 minutes. We stayed in room 128. Queen size bed with stove, microwave and sink. The only thing I would say that was a let down was the lack of cutlery and cooking items. There were all of the other necessities, just no way to cook anything. Had we known, we certainly would have brought our own. My bf booked me this place for my birthday weekend. Awesome location, nice view, could hear the waves, parking provided (hard to come by around here). Cute studio type room with a kitchen. Why 3 stars? - super noisy! Both nights music was blaring from the restaurants across the way until around midnight. Drunken people walking through the area. One night someone also set fireworks off and set car alarms off. While I know that not the fault of the hotel, it wasn't relaxing at all and I know those restaurants play music at least every Friday and Saturday. - no cutlery, no pots and pans?!! Seriously? Wtf? How can you have a kitchen with no cutlery or pots and pans. That.makes.no.sense. - the place is falling apart. By the toilets drywall was falling down in chunks. The place needs love. - not very clean! There was old coffee in the pot. The bed was not made correctly. We had to put the fitted sheet on the right way (it was on sale seats and the corners weren't even on) remake the bed completely. The Townes didn't smell clean and the carpets made the bottom of my socks dirty. -beach towels, no conditioner in the dispenser, no luxuries added at all to make the stay any more comfortable. I think they feel they can slack on things because of the location. As much as I enjoy Capitola abs the view, I don't think we'd come back for the price. read more

Came here for Labor Day weekend and booked a 2 room suite for 2 nights. It's very convenient because it's less than a 3 minute walk to the beach, you can hear the waves crashing on to the beach at night if you have your windows open (but with them closed they're pretty sound proof).   ~~Parking: After making your reservation, you'll receive a confirmation and a code to enter the parking lot. It's a fairly small lot that holds about 15 cars max. They tell you not to reverse in to the spots, but people do anyways.... Upon checking in you'll provide your make, model, car color, and license plate. They will provide you with a paper to add on to your dash (I assume it's because they only allow each room to have 1 car)  ~~Service: Good. Checking in and out was swift, room service arrived around 12pm on my second day there, but we didn't need anything, so we didn't get room service. They also don't really have the "Do Not Disturb" signs there. On the door it said that they provide the electronic version somewhere, but I didn't see it.  ~~Best Part: The fact that it's so close to the beach and within walking distance of downtown.  It's also right across from the colorful homes, which is good for pictures. ~~Tip: If you plan on staying and cooking, you'll have to bring your own utensils, cutlery and food. This place is absolutely charming with its colorful old world Venetian design right on the beach. The staff is friendly and accomodating, and the unique, historical suites are clean and come with kitchenettes and ocean view balconies. I stayed here recently with a couple of friends. Fantastic location, and we knew to expect the rooms to be a little dated. However, I'm giving the place a low score because of several factors. They nickel and dime you over everything. They say there is parking for one car per booking ... but don't mention it's $15 per day for said car. I asked for early checkin ... normally hotels offer this based on availability. This hotel charges $30 (plus tax!!) for early checkin. Most rooms, like ours, have kitchens, however it's $50 to get cookware! Finally, the kitchen had soooo many issues, the kitchen sink wouldn't drain, the ignition for the burners on the stove didn't work (btw, it's surprisingly hard to buy matches, we ended up buying a lighter!). Oh, and the conditioner and shampoo dispensers in the shower were empty. They charge a lot for these properties, you'd think they could treat their customers better. Oh ... I need to point out that Ethan who was working the desk was super helpful to us. read more

I love California history, and this was the first motel and condo in 1926. The front desk was friendly and helpful and explained very clearly there was parking included for one car only per room, and how the rooms were situated. $70 more for a balcony view wasn't worth it for us so we opted for the darling suite with a comfy sitting area with leather couch, chair and a kitchen. The exteriors are painted bright pinks and greens, and the painted decorative accents add to unique historic scene. Across the bridge is Sotola with happy hour all day on Tuesdays with a great view of our cute hotel so we are quite happy. read more

The Capitola Venetian Hotel is really very impressive. It sits on the Capitola Lagoon, a wide sandy beach between it and Monterrey Bay. To one side is the Capitola Pier. On the other side is the bridge across Soquel Creek and Capitola Village, full of shops, restaurants and bars that sit on the bay. The historic rooms are clean and well appointed. Each has a full kitchen and coffee maker. The bathrooms are small but the towels large and fluffy. The bedroom is nestled into a small alcove off the spacious livingroom. The ocean view rooms have a small balcony looking out at the bay. The exterior of the building is wonderful! Bright primary colors with whimsical molded sea serpents and animals decorate the Venetian/Mission revival architecture. The staff are friendly and well informed. There is dedicated parking at the side of the building. Be warned that not registering your car with the staff and displaying a permit will result in your car being towed....the front desk made this very clear! read more

Never have I ever had a worse experience with front desk staff. Extremely rude. Tried to deny my daughter's service dog (real service dog, NOT a companion dog). He got clearly irritated when I asked for additional keys. Then a while later he started lecturing us and he accused us of trying to "sneak two cars in the parking lot." He wouldn't stop yelling at us long enough for me to explain that, since I am recovering from recent surgery, I was about to leave in one car and swap our parking pass out with a different car. I live locally and I was not staying the night with the rest of my family. He was in a mood to argue from the get go and that was very clear. He made my 19 year old daughter cry. As I held her, I said to him, "all your yelling is ruining her birthday." He then said, "you're welcome." As a local, I send people there all the time. So does my son who is an executive chef at a nearby, upscale restaurant. No more. That ends today. What a disappointment. We'd always wanted to stay here, seeing all the colorful, cheery buildings right by beach. Problem 1 - misleading impression. All the colorful buildings by the beach are independently owned. The motel (and this place is motel quality with expensive hotel rates) consists only of one drab colored building set 3 rows of buildings back from the beach. Problem 2 - quality of the room. The room is clean enough but very dingy and smelled very musty when we first arrived. We had to open the windows to air it out. The furnishings seem very worn and the kitchen isn't even stocked with plates, pots, silverware or even coffee filters (just single use cruddy coffee packets). We turned on the oven and it was so poorly cleaned that it set off the smoke alarms. The fixtures in the bathroom were poorly installed such that they were falling off. The only two nice things I can say are: location and nice front desk staff. A real let down. We were almost laughing the whole time we were here about what a bummer it was. read more

Great location for sure, but also a little too close to the restaurants and bars when sleeping. I can hear every song crystal clear and the people laughing and screaming until 2:00 am The condo is very old. Do not come here looking for a nice place to stay. This is no hotel. Sure, you have a kitchen but are rarely in it, as there are about 10 restaurants on the water like 2 minutes away. The shower is so small I actually had to get wet, step out into the main bathroom, lather up, and then step back in. By the way, the water is hot cold hot cold hot cold the entire time showering. Let's get to the bed... I've read some review from other saying a big comfy bed... we stayed 2 night and I got no sleep. It was like sleeping on a rock. I tossed and turned all night. Between the music from the bars, sleeping like Barney rubble, and the room that was like 100 degrees... I was pissed both mornings. To top it all off, my truck almost got towed from the parking lot, which is only accessible by calling the main office on a telecom. Yeah, that's right. We didn't tell the front office what our license plate number was when we checked in (even though I told the girl it's a new silver GMC Sierra) my wife walked out to a tow truck about to tow the truck because we didnt have a slip in the window. $437.00. 1 night stay. We got the fireplace suite. It was a special occasion for the people we invited to come. When we made it in for the night we wanted to use the tv's. Took us longer than it should have to realize the cable boxes had all been unplugged. Didn't help anyway, the remotes only controlled the volume on the tv. Stuck on the same channel. So they decided to try and use their own devices, to then see a WiFi notification that the hotels router was also unplugged and not getting power. No T.V. No WiFi for personal devises. I've also used a bed mat that was easier to sleep on then the bed we used. Tv is no big issue to me personally, but to pay $437.00 to deal with all that is not right at all. I shouldn't have to call a desk after check in to make the room ok to stay in. read more

We've had our eye on staying at the Venetian for years, but their high season rates are a bit steep. When looking for a room in mid-December, however, they were one of the cheapest and you can't beat the location! And it's awesome to get parking in the village. One thing of note, many reviews reference the colors........those units aren't part of the hotel, so don't expect them! The colored units are privately owned. Anyhow, we got the cheapest room, right in the middle of the row of rooms. No view but you can hear the ocean from every single suite here, and its honestly just about five steps for me to step outside and get the view. I didn't even think about the historic nature of this hotel until I checked in....it's very cool. Our room was not a standard plain ol hotel room.........even the cheapest room has a little kitchen and it's more like a little one bedroom apartment from the 20's. Really unique and a little funky. I really loved it. The furnishings are a little on the cheaper side, but not gross or tacky. The upside is that I was here for work and there was plenty of space for me to set up and work with an additional little table for eating. Plus the couch and chair made is so my husband could also work as well and we weren't struggling to find space to spread out. Everything was clean. The linens are also on the cheaper side, but not horrible. We had a memory foam bed, which was ok. Pillows were on the SUPER firm side so bring your own if you want fluffy pillows. Bathroom and kitchen are vintage! Cute, a little quirky. Check in was easy peasy. We pre paid for our room and they still place a hold for "incidentals" which feels dumb because there is no mini bar and who makes long distance calls on a land line anymore? But the girl who checked me in was delightful. The wifi has been fantastic, which was critical for me to work. Overall this experience has definitely been a positive one and we'll definitely come back with our family. But probably in the off season again. read more

Mrs G. got a new job so we celebrated by doing a staycation weekend getaway. The location was awesome, you're right on the beach steps away from the Pacific and the esplanade (downtown Capitola) with all the shops/bars/restos. For that beautiful weekend, THAT was cool. The hotel, actually set up more like motel, feels and looks strait from the bow chicka wow wow 70's with it's dated furniture. The couch and tv were newer but everything else was kinda worn. The bathroom is NYC tiny but the kitchenette with it's fridge and microwave came in handy. The room was visibly clean but desperately needs a deep cleaning and could use some updating. I like to walk around barefoot or in socks and the bottom of my socks turned black. It's like since the location is so awesome, they do the bare minimum with the upkeep and it's still a packed house. I decided to come over to the beach alone, for some spiritual reflection and some quiet time. When I called to make the reservation on Wednesday, the clerk assured me my room would be quiet! He couldn't have been more wrong, first my room was right next to the office and between 2 alley ways with rooms or apartments on either side. Room 125 The only good thing about this weekend was the room, it was a nice suite With all the amenities. But It ends there...the thread count on the sheets was like 20 per inch, it felt like sandpaper seriously ! The music from the eateries across the water cannot be helped. But the noise in both alleyways was insane, screaming drunks, babies,and all Around noise that just would not stop!!! If I hadn't taken a sleeping pill I would drive home right now,but 17 is dangerous at night. Even now at 11 p.m. I can hear loud laughing, screaming, the people's TV next store blasting( I even called downstairs) to complain they had people bouncing off the walls all day. I should have stayed at the Dream Inn, my mistake I will never stay here again, my sleepless mistake and I just live over the hill in Los Gatos! This room also cost $850.00 for 2 nights! Reserved our Family suite 2 months in advance and they double booked our room. Unfortunately we were the ones that got moved without any notice or call ahead of time. They made no extra effort to give us any kind of credit or accommodations. Still waiting for a return phone call..... Not a fan of dishonest people. This is a great motel and it's completely underrated. First off it's right there on the water they are cute little cottages with beautiful flowers everywhere. Each door has a different wood handcarved door which are all individual works of art in itself. It's just few feet away from the wharf and the village. I had room 131 and it was a corner top room and a three bedroom suite. It had a great kitchen which was fully stocked with: dishes utensils paper towels dish soap gas stove microwave toaster wine glass pot holders Cuisinart coffeemaker with Wolfgang puck coffee. Flat screen tv, balcony, and quite possibly the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever slept in. Yeah it's no Four seasons but it's definitely cute and the staff were also nice. There is also a private parking lot. The only thing I was not a huge fan of was some of the pictures/art were outdated but honestly I wasn't there to look at the pictures I was there to look at the beautiful view from the balcony. I did like the historic pictures of Capitola. I was also a little bummed out that didn't have a bathtub because I always enjoy a nice bath when I'm in a hotel. The bathrooms were quite dinky I guess you would call them quaint. I had a great experience here I would definitely go back. I hear from the locals that it's a fraction of the cost of the other places in Capitola Village so I'm not sure if people really know what it cost to stay on the beach. read more
