Don't come hungry, but do come ready to enjoy some wine in a very sweet environment. Capitola wine bar has an adorably homey and friendly vibe and a great selection of wines. Good happy hour deals and trivia every other Thursday. We had the happy hour Sauvignon blanc. It's this or a Malbec and I think maybe beer too. I found the Sauvignon blanc to be lovely and fruity and a very good value. Unfortunately felt the opposite about the value of the cheeseboard and flatbread. Flavors were okay and portion size was very small for the price point. Trivia was adorable and wholesome. Three rounds of multiple choice and winners with a small prize each round. Our server and everyone working were all clearly having fun and were very friendly. Even if the food was a miss, this was such a good vibe and I really enjoyed the wine. Will be back! read more

Great visit! We were in town visiting with a good friend. Decided to have dinner and the restaurant had a short wait so we decided to visit! Had enough time to try a couple of flights and found a bottle of Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley, North Valley, that we really enjoyed. Had the best chill night here the other night! Will def be back again for more yummy sparkling wine, lovely and attentive service, amazing ambiance, and awesome yet chill live music! I think my fave part of this wine bar is that it's adults only. Like, we stopped by to check out a different wine bar before this and there were children everywhere playing and whining, so I def left that place immediately! And luckily stumbled upon this place right after. It was such a chill vibe, more the speed I was looking for to have a relaxing night with a couple glasses of wine. The dude that runs this place was so nice and gave us a choice of a sit down table or seats by the bar. I picked the seats by the bar where we immediately got menus to peruse. I ordered a glass of the Gustave Lorentz sparkling rosé and some water, my date had ginger beer. The rosé was crisp and delicious. On my second glass I was so happy the bartender went ahead and opened another bottle to finish the pour in my glass (like he probz coulda gotten away with not doing that, but I was very pleased that he did to top off my drink right). I absolutely love sparkling wine, so if I find a good place like this, I'll def be back for more. Plus every time my glass was empty, the bartender quickly asked if I wanted another. Just really great service. And the seats were nicely spaced at the bar, not jam packed! After about 15 minutes of sitting down we saw a two person band setting up a stand up bass and guitar. The music was like this mix of country and island sounding music, which was super chill and lovely (Poi Rogers if ya wanna check it out). And the music wasn't overly loud either and so well sounded for the space in the room (could still easily talk to the person next to you). Just lovely music to listen to while drinking a glass of wine! They have other cool nights advertised too, and I'll def be up for trivia night on Thursday's or wine down Wednesday's! Hopefully I'll be able to get there again this week. Also the different live music is really cool too. I know they had a saxophone player yesterday and if they do that again, I'd like to stop by for that too. There's also beautiful local art for sale on the walls of the bar. We ordered local ( Santa Cruz Mountain) Pinot Noir the pesto flatbread and the charcuterie board. Our table was near the fireplace and we were so comfortable. I absolutely adore this place: my favorite spot in the village. I admire that this wine bar does not exist on its location alone. Rather, this bar boasts excellent service, fun wine pairings, and decent food options...while the ocean breeze serenades you. I tend to meet girlfriends here for gabbing and sipping. But, my mom also requests visiting this bar every time she visits. I love the flights. But, the per glass options are decent and affordable (especially considering you are in the village). I specifically respect that they showcase a unique assortment of bubbles, white wines and roses. There is a very kind, woman who usually works here. She has very eclectic jewelry, but I have no idea what her name is? She is very knowledgeable and helpful. Finally, for food, I recommend the green hummus/flatbread and the olives. Love the wife and husband who own this place and the employees here. Dont like the crowd that comes but that shouldn't affect their rating Service was absolutely amazing. We were greeted right away and with smiles on their faces. They seemed extremely knowledgeable about the wines, and I loved that they didnt mind explaining the wines. But since Ann Marie & Doug took it over it has become even more special. Came here on a Friday night to hear some live music, sip some wine and try a few of their bites. The inside is small and intimate. The owners Doug and Ann Marie were both working the bar and were super friendly. Doug was helpful as I tried to decide which of their several flights to try. I opted for 3 French wines that were all delicious. For food I tried the olives with pink salt, olives, a small cheese board, a cup of mac n' cheese, a Caesar salad and the chocolate truffle mousse cake. I really enjoyed the cheese board and the mac n' cheese. They also serve flatbreads that sounded yummy, will need to try next time. The live music by Nomad was really good. Everyone I met inside was really friendly, mostly locals. They also have seating outside in the front. Great place to hang out for a couple of hours. read more

Yes, this spot is open during covid-19! I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and was seated right away in their outdoor area. I was happy to see them following the latest health protocols, fully sanitizing and wiping down the tables and chairs before seating us. We ordered a couple glasses to share of the Petite Sirah and Pinot Noir. Both were great, and paired well with some live music they had. Service was very friendly, and the restroom was not hard to find. Just ask your server for the bathroom code! The menu was extensive and had a great list of flights or glasses to choose from. I also felt like we got great value for the wines we tried, which I appreciate. Wish we could have stayed longer, but our dinner reservations were ready so we had to bounce. They make the most of a funky layout, managing to get a music area, flatscreen TV (bowl games were on the day we visited), a bar, a couple of tables and leather sofas. Others have complained about this, but we were very happy with the wine selection and the prices. They have several different tasting flights, which seems to be the way to go there. My wife wanted a champagne flight. Curiously, since it was New Years Eve and they are named after Spanish sparkling wines, you'd think that a champagne flight would be front and center. But we didn't see one, and had to ask for it off the menu. Shrug...go figure. But it was well worth the asking, reasonably priced and tasty. Wine bar, with a beachy swag! Being a planner at heart, I made sure to make a pseudo appointment for our party of 10 coming in on a Saturday. As we staggered over, after a long and happy visit at It's Wine Tyme, we made it to Cava. Only one person at the bar, who happened to be the employees boyfriend, otherwise completely empty. They had a huge table, adorned with "reserved" signs for us, but the comfy couches were calling our name. Although we appreciated the VIP status, we were looking for comfort and some relaxation. The employee, bless her heart, I cannot remember her name - was totally okay with it and let us do our thang. So, as it seems to be in the village - 3 tastings go for about $12. However, when we were rang up, she charged us $13 each. I understand its only $1, maybe it is their way of taxing us, it was annoying but not enough for me to call her out on it. We all went with random tasting, so she poured everyone a different varietal, none were the same. So instead of sticking with just three tastings, we shared all of them - which was glorious. This was good and bad. Good because we were able to taste a plethora of their selection, which is huge. Bad because we had no idea what we were tasting. She brought them all over and just walked away - no insight, no direction, no education. She was canoodling with her man for awhile, which we didn't really care. It got a little weird when they went behind a partition, but whatevs. Inappropriate yes, but we didn't really care because we were in a fuzzy, wine induced haze! Not quite the experience we had at the previous place, but a different good. A little more relaxing and doing our own thang, but definitely more pricey. A few minutes drive and we we found ourselves in an inviting and cozy bar with live music. Wife and I first tried this spot after we ran the Wharf to Wharf, 2019. We came back a 2nd time because the service and drink selection is perfect for us! A gentleman named Doug assisted us our 2nd time around, and he was kind, professional, and knowledgeable of all the wines they serve. Wifey is a major Rosé fan, and this place has a great Rosé selection. If you get here early enough, you can grab the couch by the fire place which takes your comfort level to 100! But honestly, every table or bar seat is Comfortable because of the atmosphere. The flat bread is so tasty and paired nicely with their Chardonnay. But if you're unsure what to get, try one of their flights. You'll get to try three different wines, and then order a big glass of the one you liked best. Another small but important detail, is that they use great quality wine and champagne glasses. That makes a world of a difference when it comes to wine. This place rocks our damn socks off. Not worth the over priced menu. Service was not great. The older couple was arguing behind the bar and really killed the vibe. The wine was nothing special which was disappointing. I would say that over 75% of what was on the shelves and the menu I have seen available to purchase at the local Nob Hill just up the street. We still gave it a shot and ordered a glass off the menu. It tasted funny, like it had been opened for more than a few days. When I asked for something else I got the biggest "eat poopoo face" I had ever seen in the service industry. They begrudgingly obliged at least. At this point we didn't dare order any food so I can't speak to that. read more

They took a novice like me and walked me through wines (on a busy Saturday night of all nights!) The wine list is amazing.
