Walked into a busy crowd and waited by a register with a menu for about 10 minutes hoping for service. Waitress walked by several times to bus some plates and glasses and input some orders into the console but never made eye contact, nor did the old guy with the glasses when he came out to attend the bar. Finally, I caught his attention and asked if I could order. He just said, "Kinda busy right now" and went back to what he was doing. No "give me a minute and I'll be right with you." Much like the crowd that was already there (and unlike the mixed demographic just outside or me), some older white folks came in after me and stood around for a few minutes also. Waitress finally grabbed some menus and asked them "have you been helped?" I interjected and asked, "Can I place an order to go first please?" Without stopping, she said "no" and continued on to them. I left. They saw me leave and didn't say anything. Make of that interaction what you will. I literally had the best night with Sydney! She is the owner:manager l, I am unsure, but she is THE BEST!! She was attentive, sweet and someone who will talk to you when needed ;don't use her as your therapist/she wants to go home). Amazing experience here to watch World Cup games and eat English fare. First off you're right next to the beach in gorgeous Capitola. Next the menu is vast with English Irish foods. WOW, one of my favorite places to go to for Sunday breakfast. Always treated like royalty by Irene the waitress. Went inside this last Sunday to let Irene know that I would be out at my table on the patio. I was leaning by the register, quietly minding my own business until she had time for me. Instead, I was approached by a woman who asked me two yes/no questions. So, I answered "No" to first question and "Yes" to the other. She looked at me, quite po'ed, and said that she didn't have time for that. She ranted for a few seconds and stormed into the kitchen. I've been going to the Brit for ages. They are constantly good. The food, the service and the atmosphere are constantly great. The best breakfast around too. And the haddock is so good and I don't really like fish. Pho is available on Thursdays and it's yummy and filling. Sports is always on the 4 TVs. I think the staff and management are either pretty unintelligent or quite rude. We were a party of 4 with a 6 month baby in stroller. The place is already congested (because of tables next to each other, was quite empty) and we were trying to accommodate us. Lately he's been playing other games instead of the Niners, he'll have the Niners on a few screens but no audio. This was literally a niner bar he doesn't appreciate his long term customers. My hubby and I often park in Santa Cruz and ride our bikes over to Capitola. Our favorite spot to stop for food is the Brit. I usually get the Bangers and Mash and he usually gets the Reuben or Fish and chips. It's consistently good food. The bangers and mash is a traditional British banger--good! And the mashed potatoes taste "real" not from a box. Also, there are always fresh sauteed vegetables on the plate. And they're cooked just right! Not overdone or underdone....nice. Hmmm! Let's see. We went to BA at 2:00 on a Wednesday and only the outside was busy. Inside my dining partner said was filled with swarms of flys! The man who originally greeted us was quite rude. I just had foot surgery and I'm in a boot with a knee scooter. Before we even had a chance he reprimanded us for blocking the walkway. What a way to treat a disabled person! It took a long time to get service. The Irish waitress was very kind but obviously a one woman show. The patio area is really filthy and cramped. I had a Reuben and the corn beef was dry although the rye bread, sauerkraut and Russian dressing were good. Beer from Discretion was predictable good. They definitely should step up their game...especially on the cleanliness and service fronts. read more

Honestly I wasn't expecting much because I'm a pretty picky person but I actually really liked this place! Our server was so amazing, everything came out fast. All of the dishes we ordered were full of flavor. The fish combo breading was amazing, it was crispy and not too heavy. The ahi tartare was really good as well, I probably could have done without the bell peppers though. I absolutely recommend the calamari, the squid was huge and the breading was perfect! The ham and cheese omelet was really good too. The fries that it came with had so much flavor, I was shook! For drinks we got the lemon drop and the raspberry lemon drop- they were really good but I wish they were a little more sour. Overall, this place was really good. I mean, I obviously can't speak for everyone in this situation, cuz maybe everywhere you go, people are always mean to you, but I have a little bit of sad news if that sounds familiar to you... (the problem isn't the people, it's probably that person you see in the mirror) :-O Anyway, will definitely be back. Sadly didn't have a great experience for my birthday brunch. We asked to be seated outside since we had our dog with us, had us seated but had to approach our server to bring us a menu. That was fine and my sister even empathized saying it must be a busy afternoon with just her covering the patio. Got brought our menu and waited for our server to come by and ask for our order...a good 20 mins go by and my sister asks for another glass of water and lets her know we're ready to order. She goes back inside, tends to the other tables in the patio..except us. My husband finally goes inside to let her know we're ready, she gives him a thumbs up..comes outside, takes the order of the table next to us (party that just arrived) and goes back inside without even acknowledging us. This place was absolutely superb! We stayed up the road at the Inn at Depot Hill and spotted this British pub that opens early ish for breakfast. The location of this bad boy is right next to the public restroom and only steps away from the sand. It serves a nice variety of items which is nice so everyone in your party can pretty much find something that suits their tastes. I ordered a chicken sandwich and the chicken was thick, plump, and juicy. The artichoke hearts we ordered were huge and the fried breading was a little thick for my taste. I wasn't too keen on this dish. The kids chicken strips were a good size and they came with a heap of fries. It's a pretty standard restaurant--nothing that knocks your socks off. We stopped in for some lunch after flying into San Jose and driving down to Monterey.. we picked this place because the menu seemed to have something we both were looking for.. my wife had the Fish and Chips, I had a French Dip... both were pretty good early on, after awhile we were not as enthusiastic about the food then later on our travels, we both were not feeling so good.. did not really get sick, the food just did not sit well with us.. Atmosphere was ok, about what you would expect at a British Pub. If we make it back to the area, we probably will choose a different place to eat though. read more
