We went back to Capocaccia on a Saturday night. The food was good but we had a number of issues that really made for a not great dining experience. The tables on the Yonge side are very close to each other and our friends were constantly bashed by servers and patrons alike. We asked the waiters to be more careful but with the lack of space to even reach other tables - pretty impossible. The other thing was that it got dark early (due to a thunderstorm) and they did not turn up the lights in the restaurant. We asked them to, but again they did nothing. We had to get our phone flashlights to see the menu. The pizza I had was tasty and my hubby liked the octopus appetizer but we do find them lacking on the comfort side of things. Made a reservation for this well-located restaurant in midtown Toronto. The restaurant is beautiful, with a modern yet classic feel. Our friendly server was attentive, took out order quickly and kept our glasses filled with water (it's the simple things in life, folks). We shared a margarita pizza and the fungi pasta which were both absolutely delicious. The pasta was so perfectly buttery and showcased the mushrooms well. The pizza was a great choice too. We loved the thin and crispy crust, the fresh and tasty tomato sauce, and the touch of fresh basil. We loved every bite. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu. read more

I was in Toronto during Labor Day weekend and ended up here for dinner. Oh thank you! We had the heirloom tomato and burrata app which was fire, the EVOO was so fragrant and tasty, the burrata was fresh and the tomatoes ripe and delicious eaten all together. My entree was cacio a pepe, easy sounding but not easy to balance. The fresh pasta was perfectly Al dente, the ratio of pasta, parm, and pepper was perfection... This was our first time visiting this lovely restaurant as we were visiting from Vancouver. My husband and I had the Caesar salad and loved dressing and topping of anchovies. I had the tagliatelle bolognese which was delicious and hubby had the seafood linguine. Our server Georgia was very attentive. Portions were satisfying and of course we had to order dessert which did not disappoint! We had the olive oil cake with homemade marmalade and tiramisu which disappeared very quickly. Paid $60 for 2 Pepperoni Pizzas. The place looked like an over stocked furniture store, crowed tables. They put us on the patio, the heaters are on the ceiling we had to put on our hats so our hair wouldn't burn. The waitress tried hard to upsell, she asked us 5 times if we want drinks. She didn't have a clue, when we ask her about certain items. The food, nothing really to warrant the price. Don't waste your time and money. Could get better food and a better ambiance if we ate at the Loblaws up the street. read more

Food was good - it wasn't anything exceptional but it was good. The patio is very nice with the lemon trees. Definitely has an Italian feel to it. Service was rather awkward - the server that we had didn't seem to know how to interact with customers. The server gave off the impression that he didn't care to be here yet he kept rambling on about the food. It also took a while for the food to get to our table. Came here last week for the first time for dinner for a girls night out. It wasn't too busy on a Friday night but I would still recommend that you make reservations since the restaurant isn't too big. We got quite a few dishes for sharing so that we can try more dishes. We were really impressed with how flavourful everything was and the portions were pretty big. We started with the beef and octopus carpaccio and these two dishes were amazing. I'm definitely not going to share the beef carpaccio next time! We also got one of the daily specials, braise beef with polenta and rapini. The portion was really generous and the beef was so tender and tasty...just perfectly done! We also got a pasta dish which was only okay. Yummmm! I love this place. The ambience in here is really nice. I went for lunch and luckily it wasn't busy at all-- nothing like some days when I walk by! Our server was great, and the service was really nicely paced. We ordered Calamari and Rapini to share. Personally, I think that the calamari could have been crispier, and lighter. It's listed on the menu as "calamari Fritti" but it seemed more breaded than fried. Lowkey onion ring vibes. Rapini was good though! The pizza was amazing. I loved how chewy and fluffy the crust was. So tasty. Everything on the pizzas went really well together! I got the Navona and my aunt got the Piemonte. I just wish the added more artichokes as I loveeeee artichoke. Honestly, you can't go wrong with a pizza from this place. Last, for dessert, I got the cannolo. It's really unique because they make it in front of you. Our server came to the table with the shell and the pistachio sprinkles and chocolate sprinkles on a tray. The ricotta filling was in like a cake icing pipe and she fills the shell and dips it in the powder right at your table which is sooo cute! The food here used to be some of the best in the city. It's certainly priced that way. I got pasta and a Margherita pizza. Honestly, the pizza was just awful. Like so bad, I'd prefer Dominos. So bad you couldn't pay me 20 dollars to eat it. And while the pasta was decent... it's not like I'd come back for it. I've had pasta from many other places and made by friends that really is much better. The atmosphere of the place is definitely great. Waiters are friendly. Good wine selection. The saving grace was the wine they choose paired excellently with the pasta. So it's not like it was the worst time ever. My coworkers and I work just work down the street from Capocaccia. On March, we wanted to give this place a try due to the pricing and the wonderful atmosphere saw from the outside. When we arrived, we were told that Happy Hour was not in fact, 4:00-5:30pm as advertised on the board. Instead, it was 3:30pm to 4:45pm. The time we got in was 4:15pm so we only had 30 minutes. The waiter who sat us to our table was adamant that he was right about the hour and when I showed him the picture of the board that was placed outside their door, he brushed it off and said, "that's an error". Due to this, one of our other coworker who was supposed to join us later was unable to due to the sudden cut off. We were allowed to place multiple orders at the same time and to be delivered after each order so the they can honour the happy hour time slot. I myself ordered the popcorn shrimp off the Happy Hour menus and to my pleasant delight, it was delicious! My other coworkers were also happy with their orders. However, one of them ordered the seafood pasta and got regular spaghetti instead. We pointed it out to the waiter and he said that she ordered the spaghetti. We all heard "seafood" especially since she always get something seafood when we dine out. The waiter amended the order but had to wait another 30 minutes. While she ordered, I ordered the brownie dessert and a glass of wine. Her pasta arrived and my wine, but my brownie was no where to be seen. I asked the waiter on why it's taking so long and he said I never ordered, even though he confirmed my order and gave my drink. Overall, the service was subpar. I had higher expectations from the place whereas the food was sublime. Would I come here again? Probably not as we were still hungry and ended up going to Wylie's down the street. read more

Review for Winterlicious! For Winterlicious this year I wanted to try a smaller, perhaps lesser known restaurant to see if I could discover a new hidden gem. And yes, I'm happy to report that it was a resounding success! Even after frequenting Italian dining places so often, this little homely spot tucked away in midtown Toronto stood out (in a very good way). I think one of the greatest fears of the 'Licious event is that the quality (and quantity) of the food on the special menu would be largely inferior to the regular menu. Definitely not the case here! From the moment the first course came out, I was impressed by how well each dish was presented - and the taste did not disappoint either. The beef carpaccio in particular was quite well done, with all of the ingredients on the plate complimenting one another wonderfully. Everything else exceeded expectations, from the salmon to the pasta to the delicate desserts - the food was simply delicious, filling, and there were positive remarks all around the table. :) Service was absolutely amazing. Our waitress was probably one of the most attentive I've ever had. She patiently explained the items on the menu, checked up on us several times to see how we were doing, and always refilled our water glasses before they became empty...even though the water jug was literally there in front of us. The timing of everything was impeccable - just the right amount of time to consider the menu without having to wait for our orders to be taken, dishes came out just quickly enough while still letting us digest after each course, cutlery and napkins were replaced promptly, and we were never rushed for anything. To top it off, the decor and environment were beautiful, with high ceilings, pretty table setting and plates, comfortable spacing and seats...overall, it was a great experience. I was looking to spend a sunny Tuesday evening on a patio near my apartment, and I'd always wanted to try Capocaccia (and they had reservations available), so it was an easy choice. We arrived a few minutes before our scheduled reservation but weren't actually seated for about 20 minutes, which I absolutely do not blame the restaurant for. This is a trying time and I'm happy to cut eateries a little slack when appropriate. What I can't forgive, however, is being ignored by my waiter, no matter how busy he might be. Though our drink order was taken almost immediately, we weren't given the opportunity to order food until about 45 minutes after we were seated. 45 minutes! I had planned to order an appetizer, but I was so grumpy by that point I decided to abandon that idea and just order a main. I wound up getting the Paccheri Bolognese ("traditional veal ragu, parmigiano, basil"), which, at least, showed up within about 20 minutes of ordering. The dish is the very definition of mediocre. I didn't dislike it but I was never excited to be eating it, either. The pasta was slightly overcooked, while the sauce, which was plentiful, was lacking in any bold flavors or that deep richness you associate with a good ragu. (I should also mention that I had a view into the kitchen from where I was sitting, and one of the chefs was wearing his mask over his chin. Kinda defeats the purpose, doesn't it?) Anyway, we obviously didn't order dessert and indeed, I can't imagine ever returning. read more

Folks we have a winner here for pizza. With the authentic Italian pizza scene heating up in Toronto for a few years this place hits the 850 degree mark in my book for the best Italian pizza in Toronto! The dough is cooked just to the right amount of crisp, the sauce doesn't overwhelm with sweet or sour notes, the cheese and other ingredients are spot on. Now for some background I recall my only exposure to this spot was I had a cappuccino here eons ago and the place was much smaller and they had a dark cozy feel. I made a mental note to visit them but it never came to fruition. Now they have expanded and the decor has changed to an airy portofino look (blue tiles substituting for the Italian Riviera). The service is decent and their non pizza offerings looked enticing as well. I will be back for the pizza for sure and might even try the tasting or prix fix. 4.5 stars for the pizza. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed the two pasta dishes we got to try (tagliatelle with mushrooms/truffles & shells with pistachio, pesto and shrimp). I'd say my pesto shells dish was much more enjoyable to me than my partner's tagliatelle but I loved the small features it had (pistachio topping, orange zest, flavourful shrimp throughout). The wine selection here was phenomenal and they were having a great 50% sale for most of their wines. The waitress / front of house staff were very kind and prompt with service and the outdoor seating was pretty nicely spaced out AND they didn't have the plastic tents up but provided space heaters which I prefer having as it allows air to circulate more. Buyer Beware. Save your money and go elsewhere! Capocaccia Trattoria is not the place to be. This was a terrible experience from start to finish; from the service to the wine to the food. Save your money and go elsewhere. Our first clue should have been that the restaurant was almost empty but then we had the whole section to ourselves. The Service: With so few people in attendance the service should have been a no brainer. Our server who bragged about having 25 years of experience evidently has not learned a lot in those years. 1. We ordered bruschetta with anchovies. We got bruschetta with cheese and figs. When asked why we did not get what we had ordered the reply was that the kitchen had not prepared bruschetta with anchovies that evening. So he Brough the bruschetta with figs which had some melted cheese with a sliced fig thrown on top (a last minute substitute). ode cheese had no flavour and did little to bring out the flavour of the fig. They were not complementary. He then offered to bring us a few anchovies on the side which at the time we thought was a nice gesture until we discovered that he charged us for the anchovies. Since there was nothing to eat the anchovies with we asked if the restaurants had any crackers which he promptly brought from the kitchen. And you guessed it charged us for them. Not a great start to the evening or finish when the bill arrived. 2. We asked if there was a house wine that might be less expensive than those on the wine list and were told "No!" all of the wines are listed. We decided not to order any wine since the prices were too high to warrant the value. As a former wine importer myself I was not impressed. The waiter then came back to say that he in fact did have a house wine that he could serve to us at a lower price than the other wines that were quoted on the menu. We asked him to bring it please. He brought the wine. Opened the bottle and then poured everyone a glass without the courtesy of a taste test beforehand. After having tasted the wine we understood why. Don't get me wrong. We did drink it as we had had it with this joker with 25 years experience. 3. The dishes. Now perhaps we were too much of a problem for him. I am not saying that he told the kitchen to prepare bad food but if that were not the case then the dishes were simply poorly prepared. The pizzas. Canned tuna topping was disgusting. If it were not canned then it was simply beyond its best before date. Rather than a crispy crust we had to contend with a sloppy, soppy crust that did not hold up to the toppings. Pizza with anchovies provided the same sloppy, soppy crust. Oh yes, extra anchovies were brought and extra charges were incurred. Caesar salad. A deconstructed salad with uncut lettuce (a blob on the plate) topped with a little dressing , a few slivers of parmesan cheese and 2 tiny anchovies,,, yes, there are those anchovies again. They must cost the restaurant their weight in gold the way that the use so little and charge extra if you dare ask for ... "more please." Eggplant parmesan Basic but not as good as the one I make at home. I can only guess given the poor quality of the other dishes that the ingredients might not be the best. The fish dish was fine as it should be since it was the most expensive dish ordered. I guess you get what you pay for in service, wine and food. read more

My husband surprised me with an early birthday meal here. I had a craving for pizza earlier in the week, so it was perfect. The Arancini was a delightful start to our meal- these little mushroom and rice balls were mouthfuls of goodness. I would definitely order more of these. I enjoyed the Agnello pizza with lamb sausage, it was filling and savoury. I would order this again. The Calamari was a bit too grilled for my liking, but it was still good. I would likely try a different pasta dish next time. Overall, these dishes were delicious and I still savour the taste of lamb sausage the most. The new "Torta al Cioccolato" chocolate dessert cake is a MUST TRY. It's very rich and decadent, and the cherries made it refreshing. The pistachio mousse was a nice compliment to this as well. This approx 3" cake was a good amount to share between two people, because of its chocolatey richness. I would come back again just for this dessert. Service was superb! We were checked-in on frequently, water was refilled timely, and overall they were very friendly. Our server was amazing, chatty and raved about the dessert as well! I am rarely in this neighbourhood. I received a gift card for this restaurant so it gave me a chance to try it out. Since we were on our way midtown, I called in my order for one N'duja pizza for pick-up. I was impressed. The pizza smelled so good I just went for it as I was in the passenger seat of the car. The crust was soft yet crisp. The toppings, although didn't seem like a lot, were the perfect amount. Each bite was truly delicious. It was $22 for one pizza. A bit steep but it's a beautiful space on Yonge St. just south of St. Clair. They have a special on Sunday nights for a family style dinner. I would love to try that! read more

This was not a happy hour item either (which I don't think they have any more), and worse, the price is about 20%-30% more than it was a few months ago The service was HORRIBLE! I didn't recognize anyone, nor were they friendly. The patio was about 80% empty and I think there was only 1 or 2 tables inside that had people. Come on Capo (and other restos), if you want people to come back, especially a neighbourhood resto like yourself, treat people like gold -- we're all going through financial challenges -- and after being isolated for so long, the last thing I want to happen is to be treated like dirt in a place I **used to* frequent. I'll be going to a place that actually wants me there from now on :( 4.5 Stars. Fun and friendly place. My friend and I ordered Moscow mules to start and it took 20 mins for the waiter to return and tell us that the bartender isn't making them because of the war in Ukraine. Then why don't they call them "Ukraine Nightingales" or "Kyiv Kiss Cocktails"? No imagination at all! And a missed opportunity to re-name the drink to their liking and please the customer at the same time. The pizza, when it finally came, was delicious. We used to frequent this restaurant when it was quite new probably 16 years ago. We decided to give it a try this evening. They have a very nice patio space on the side street and more tables on the sidewalk on Yonge St. Inside dining was well spaced and the atmosphere warm. Service was efficient and professional. The burrata appetizer was very good. Prices at all restaurants are up considerably so don't be surprised to find pastas here from $20 to $32 . Two of our party ordered different pastas which they enjoyed. I couldn't really find a pasta or a main that grabbed me so I opted for a pepperoni pizza which was very good. Perhaps their menu is limited now due to covid which explains why I couldn't find a main dish that tempted me... thus 4 stars instead of 5. read more

I want to give this a 2.5-star rating. I came here with a party of six on Victoria Day long weekend. We understood that it was busy and that they may have been short-staffed, but the wait time for our food was ridiculously long (at least 45 minutes for our appetizers to arrive!). By the time the food came, we had finished our drinks and were starving. On a positive note, the staff did come to our table to acknowledge the long wait and apologized for it. We didn't make any complaints, but others must have. Anyway, on with the food... Our table ordered several pizzas (salami, giuseppe, one with ground meat and green onion) and they were very good. They came around with chili oil but did not leave it on the table. Other items that were ordered were the grilled calamari, beef carpaccio, papardelle with mushrooms, and eggplant parmesan - all of which were flavourful and met our expectations. However, nothing spectacular. I find that many Italian restaurants/trattorias out there are very similar. They meet the standard and it tastes fresh, but it's no different than the next Italian bistro down the street. The main difference would have to be the atomosphere and the service. The service, besides the slow wait, was good. We gave them the benefit of the doubt since it was a very busy weekend and they were one of the few restaurants open that day. The atomosphere was modern yet gave a somewhat rustic feel, probably because of the wood tables. I'm not sure I'd return to the restaurant again. I mean, there are quite a few Italian restaurants around the area, but if one has a long waitlist or is closed, then I may turn to Capocaccia again. read more

The food is great...if they get your order right. Service there is ok. The server bar tender and host were nice but the floor manager was very rude and unpleasant. I asked for my pasta with no cheese as I'm lactose intolerant and he gave it to me with cheese so I asked him if they could remake it without cheese and he said it was my fault for not telling him I don't want cheese but I did. Then when he gave it to me I double checked to make sure there was no cheese and he said to a server "oh she doesn't trust me". I dine at Cappocachia fairly often. The food is good, service is usually friendly, and for two my bill is around $130 with tip. On arrival yesterday, l was greeted by an inept lady who had no idea what she was about! She couldn't confirm my reservation and flustered, she went off to find a manager. As the patio was mostly open l proceeded to seat myself. Shortly thereafter a very rude manager informed me to come in through the main doors next time. The wine selection, they didn't have my usual, was abysmal. After tasting two recommendations, both disgusting, l settled on water. Go there for the food, but if you enjoy a decent glass of wine my suggestion is; go somewhere else. read more

I was kinda disappointed at the quality of their food. Their service was very quick, however. My girlfriend ordered their cardinale pizza which came out soggy and somewhat bland. I wanted tot try their gnocchi but they told me they had run out so I had to settle for the same dish with concheglie pasta instead. The sauce was much too watery for my liking though the flavour was decent. For dessert, I got their Nutella pizza while my girlfriend go their lemon gelato. The pizza was a good size portion that should probably be split among two people (though I ate most of it myself :P).
