Sitting at the bar in Capone's is an enjoyable afternoon. They have many regulars there that played the games on TV. Plenty of laughs and jokes everybody is super friendly, including the bartender you can get food there. I usually get wedding soup and that's enough for me, but I'll tell you everything is great. Lauren was our server tonight and she was Fantastic! We started with cosmos, fried calamari & salad which was excellent. I was once "that guy." The one who stood is a slow-moving line running around the block, just because I wanted to try a pop-up at a brewery. The food was great, but not mind-blowing. I'd waited at least 2+ hours just because I really wanted to see what it was all about. Apparently, so did everyone else in line. Enter Capone's - a place that sits on the polar opposite of whatever that pop-up was. It feels like the kind of place designed for regulars who've been coming here for decades. I get the impression people come here not because the food or service is in anyway remarkable, but because it is their third place. A place where they've been dancing, had a many-a-beer with many-a-friend, and maybe had a date or three. While we were in no way treated as outsiders or unwelcome, there is nothing even close to remarkable or noteworthy about this place. Perhaps only because there is no associated sentimental value. I had the opportunity to try their Lasagna Bolognese. The lasagna was cooked well, with some ricotta between the layers, and had some tomato sauce and an ample amount of protein added up top and around. However, I think this what worked against it. While there were layers of pasta and ricotta, the tomato and meat were added as a finishing element, rather than being integrated into the lasagna proper. Just a little more cheese would have been nice, too. Finally, When it comes to the service, it was friendly, and the food came our fairly fast. However, at the same time I wish it were a touch more attentive. Their prices are average, and the location is clean, but the dining room needs some sunlight in my opinion. So, we are left with an okay dining experience. There was nothing to detract me from coming again, but at the same time, there was nothing to draw me into a return visit. read more

What an amazing place!! We walked in and we were not quite sure but wow! OMG talk about flavorful Italian food! We were in the area for a convention and looking for some place close and local so we Yelp'd checked out the menu and what caught our eye, "The Balls" a meatball appetizer. I'll start by saying, I will be back. I am in the area for a few days and potentially until Christmas for work and having a $50 a day credit for food I wanted to start by spoiling myself on day one and did I ever! Found this via yelp and the pictures of the food is what sold me on what I wanted to have for dinner. The way the gps took me into the parking lot was confusing but figured it out. My co-worker and I could hear the music from outside which really didn't matter but was happy to see it was a live band and they did a heck of a job with the entertainment. Soup of the day was chicken noodle and it was one heck of a cup of soup. The fresh vegetables with the broth was just superb, I wish I had eaten it without the crackers. Would have also been happy eating another three cups too. The lasagna was orgasmic, the home made noodles is just the beginning. The meat sauce made every bite worth wile and I am happy I had bread to clean up my plate with. I tried a bite of my co-workers chicken parm and that was equally delicious. Two big fat pieces of chicken with a side of pasta was too filling and he had to take the rest home. For dessert.... Spumoni Bomba.... this was just icing on the cake. Best bang for your buck dessert I have eaten all year. The picture does no justice. This is something you need to experience for your self. This is clearly not a hidden gem with how packed it was at 9:00 on a Thursday in the bar area, dining room had plenty of seats. Capone's is your typical, old-school Italian-American red sauce restaurant and I love it. I hadn't been in years until recently, and forget how good it is. It can get busy, but the service is always friendly, and our most recent server, Nicole, was fantastic. The prices are super reasonable, especially because you can get two to three meals from each entree. I always get either of two dishes: chicken, broccoli, and ziti or eggplant parmigiana. The dishes are huge and each entree comes with your choice of salad or soup, plus scala bread for the table. The bread is delicious and the salads are fresh and crisp. Both dishes are huge. The ziti is addictively good--they might put crack in the sauce. And the eggplant is very flavorful. If you are looking for a good deal and a good meal, Capone's is your place. read more

We are going to an evening birthday party in Marblehead and decided to have an early dinner and stay overnight in Peabody. We found Capone's on the Marriott website and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad we did. We got greeted and seated quickly by the professional staff up front and then ended friendly and attentive wait service. The bread was a delicious and light Italian bread with sesame seeds that is light and airy, but also addictive! My guests both had the fettuccine Alfredo that had that perfect Alfredo sauce that was the right clingy consistency without being thick-- they loved it. I decided to have that lasagna with the bolognese sauce, even though the waitress warned me that it was a big portion-- she was not kidding! The flavors of the ricotta and the bolognese were amazing! Excellent Italian restaurant with a great family atmosphere. Very low key and set up like a speakeasy, hence the name "Capone's" as in Al Capone. The walls are decorated with stars and famous people from yesteryear. The service is fast, efficient and attentive. We went on a Thursday night for dinner, they offer Throwback Thursday where select dishes are priced from the 1980s. We had a fantastic appetizer of garlic bread topped with tomatoes and mozzarella. Nice and hot and delicious. For my entree I ordered the chicken parmigiana with ziti. Besides being delicious, the serving was so large I ended up bringing half home for dinner the next night. I have been to Capone's on a few different occasions in the evenings to watch a friends band perform. I was surprised to see that they have a good sized bar, dance floor and stage. On one of my visits, the kitchen was still open so I was able to try something. They specialize in Italian, it was late so I decided to keep it on the lighter side so I decided to order the meatballs. They arrived promptly at my table, served in a black iron skillet two good sized balls covered in cheese and sauce accompanied with 2 pieces of garlic bread (toasted). The meatballs had a great texture and the correct amount of spice. The sauce a tad mild, but yet tasty. The cheese was melted and stringy. The garlic bread had a good amount of butter and garlic and just the right amount of crunch. I ordered a beer, so I did not have an opportunity to try the mixed drinks, but my friends seemed to be very happy with theirs. Our waitress was very polite and provided great service. I have been going to this place for years. Highly recommend it especially if you like pasta or Italian food. I have tried a bunch of things off this menu, from pasta to soup. The chicken parm, the chicken AL Capone, the pasta Fagioli, and bruschetta are extremely good and are recommended. Even ordering takeout the quality doesn't diminish, it's just as good. We came to Capone's for a quiet weeknight for dinner, so this review is only for the food. We really enjoy our meals here. They are a solid Italian food place. We arrived starving and I still managed to have a little bit of leftovers. I got the steak and shrimp scampi. The seasoning on the entire dish was phenomenal. The steak was a little fatty which is the only small negative of this experience. My husband had a chicken and pasta dish which smelled heavenly and he enjoyed as well. So we found this out of the way Italian place while we were on vacation and decided to try it. When you first walk in there is a bar so we were not sure, but quickly escorted back to the larger dining room and greeted by a friendly server. We ordered the kids some pasta and pizza right away since they were hungry. They got their food quick and hot after they snacked on a little bit of bread and butter. I could not decide between chicken or eggplant parmigiana so I was in luck when they offered chicken with eggplant parmigiana. Well I was lucky that I got to try both, but the portions are HUGE so there was plenty that I could have shared with meal with at least 2 other people. No complaints, but be aware to come hungry!! TL;DR I think there's better Italian food elsewhere. I hope that Capone's can do better than what I payed for and received. I've had the pleasure of ordering takeout/delivery from many Italian restaurants in Essex and Middlesex counties during COVID-19 and Capone's misses the standard. I had ordered the calamari appetizer, the lasagna, and the rigatoni bolognese with a side Caesar salad. First off, l'd write of the salad as a plain lack of effort. It seemed to be loosely chopped romaine with prepacked dressing, all bundled up in a plastic container that was wide open in the bag when I opened the delivery bag. Secondly, the pastas. The lasagna was difficult to cut through and rigatoni of the rigatoni bolognese fell flat. From the texture of the noodles, they seemed to be store bought, since fresh pasta normally has a much subtle, tender give. The sauces of both of the dishes and of the calamari were watery and did not have a smooth consistency. The bolognese was the most disappointing: the meat resembled ground chuck and was in clumps of overcooked hamburg meat. Bolognese takes hours to stew with the soffrito melding with more higher quality meat (like short rib) to create subtly sweet and savory, meaty flavors and composed textures; the one I got from Capone's tasted like high school cafeteria meat sauce coaxing cheap rigatoni. Lastly, the calamari. The coating was grainy and the entirety of the fry was still oily. I could squeeze the calamari and get several tablespoons of oil from the dilapidated appetizer. It's as if the fry was careless: the coating loose and the calamari was never left to sit post-fry to drain oil. All these 4* reviews seem very misleading as this restaurant seems to not put the ounce of effort that other Italian restaurants have in ingredient sourcing, cooking, and packaging for delivery/takeout. In this time of day, restaurants are no exception to the struggle of making better instead of making do and letting go; Capone's seems to do the latter. read more

Had a delicious pear martini that enjoyed immensely with their crunchy sesame crust and soft warm inside. And of course butter! I ordered seafood and pasta special and asked for combo of seafood from one dish and the makings of another special . It was absolutely luscious and made with love! My husband got the chicken bracciolatine which was outstanding! The Marsala sauce and veggies with a prushoot and mutzarela stuffed inside chicken breast was amazing . WOW! New year, new reviews! Starting off the year on a positive note sending a quick shout out to Capone's for a wonderful New Year's Eve! My boyfriend and I visited this hidden gem, or maybe not so hidden, for the first time last night to see 'The Back to the 80's Band' perform and welcome in 2019. We were pleased with everything starting off by easily reserving our tickets for the event by phone. Upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly faces and quickly escorted to our seats on the upper level. We were delighted to find a perfectly set table complete with hats and noisemakers. The table was overlooking the stage and lower level below. Aside from a large support post which blocked our view a little, we loved settling into this cozy spot perfect for checking out the band and enjoying a little 'people-watching' as well. Our tickets for the New Year's Eve event reserved a spot for us in the lounge with a smaller version of the menu consisting of mostly pub fare. We did not spend any time in the main dining room or take a look at the regular menu, but plan to next time. We were happy with the pub selections and both enjoyed a steak tip salad.
