I meet up with a few family members for drinks on a very busy Friday night as it was the day before school vacation. It's a casual local joint where you can tell they have a lot of regulars. This review sits at about three and a half stars. Went to Rolly's for lunch with my dad on a holiday Friday at about 1pm. There was hardly anyone in the place, just a handful of people at the bar and one or two other tables. We took a high top table and ordered some beers. I will say they have a pretty good draught selection. For food we got the calamari appetizer, my dad got pan seared haddock and I got a buffalo chicken wrap. The calamari was surprisingly good, better than I thought it was going to be. My dad really loves the haddock, so no complaints there either. The Buffalo chicken wrap wasn't bad, though I wish it had more chicken in it. The place is spacious but there is a bit to be desired in terms of the overall atmosphere. The service was also kind of slow in terms of the food coming out, especially when you consider that there were no more than about five parties in the entire place during the time we were there. However the lady who was holding down both the bar and the tables was very nice and did a good job. I was also surprised to see the total of the bill, a lot cheaper than I would've thought for a total of four beers, an appetizer and two entrees. Rolly's is all in all a decent neighborhood pub. Went there on a Friday at 5:30 PM. Place was moderately busy. Had 2 Beers and two apps at the bar with my wife. Calamari was subpar and small portions, also the menu says on a bed of Bell Peppers, all I got was a small portion of lettuce. Halfway through I asked the Bartender and she apologized and went in kitchen and brought me out a bowl of peppers and put it near me. Also got chicken wings and they were ok. Got two draft Stellas and bartender gave a lousy poor with two much foam and not enough beer. I'm guessing 10 oz, not even a pint glass. However, the hot wings were to die for. The tip at the Lazy dog has really good sweet taste to it more like Korean bbq taste. Just below average food, on the bland and plain side and not even big portions. The salad was pretty tasteless with watery balsamic vinegrette. The sausage was good and was from Biancos the menu said. The steak tips were ok taste wise,but the amount each of us got was surprisingly small for the price and compared to other local places. Beer menu was average. Service was very friendly but not very attentive. Just a forgettable place that I would not see a real need to go back and visit. My boyfriend's a Lynner. Aside from Lynn being known as the "city of sin", it just not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Hell, you can even find a good spot for food and drinks in most neighborhoods. Another plus? Normal people. No cosmo sipping snobs in this bar. Last night a guy who was happy about a local high school winning a hockey game bought the bar a round. Thanks buddy. You're the man. I'm a fan of bars. I'm a fan of bars with food that doesn't make you want to book an EKG in the morning because they just fry everything. I have had the iceberg wedge salad with bacon and blue cheese and the turkey tips dinner. Both are done simply and done well. What more can you ask for at a neighborhood bar? Good food. Here's if you're looking for something local and not overpriced. It amazes me how good the quality of food and drinks are. I occasionally come here with my beau and companions. They have everyday specials (dine in only) which includes 25 cent wings and half price apps on Sunday. The wings are decent, extra crispy with good seasoning. I believe they have BOGO burgers Tuesdays - which are yum! I was a bit skeptical of their rib special, but it turned out to be really good. It fell right off the bones. The clam chowder is delicious as well! Drinks are also made well and are reasonably priced. I usually get the house margarita - $6.50. Overall no major complaints. read more

When I called this place, the person who answered the phone didn't provide a name, I should have asked, again, my mistake...She stated that no one found my purse and asked me if I left it in my car. I politely responded that it was the first place I checked. I asked if there was video surveillance-she wouldn't answer the question. I asked to speak with the manager...she stated that I was speaking to the right person. She asked me a second time if I had left my purse in the car. I had a bad day at work and needed to go out to eat and to have a drink (I'm not much of a drinker so I assure you my day was awful!) to exorcise the last of the devil that I became after a seriously shitty 9:30 am meeting. We arrived at 7:30 on a Wed night and the place was PACKED - we had to wait 10 minutes for a table for two - though it was only half full once we left an hour or so later. The waitress was dutiful but not noticably friendly or concientous - I had to ask for a drink refill and for the bill and in between she never did ask us how our meal was or if we wanted anything else. Also I'm not a drinker and could have used a friendly suggestion or two on fruity drinks but she was absolutely no help. The food was decent, I had a steak and cheese sub that came with a very small portion of meat and a ton of bread. I wish the roll were distinctive but it was a generic soft sandwich roll you could have purchased at Market Basket. The sweet potato fries were decent but I could have done without the sugar they sprinkled on them. The Chunky Monkey Martini is delicious! I would have really liked to rate this place higher since Lynn is so under valued and we live nearby, but the lackluster service kind of dampened things for me. On the plus side, the place was recently expanded and renovated so I liked the environment very much AND there are a ton of flat screen televisions (not really my deal but good if there is a game you'd like to watch while eating). read more

We went to Rollys last night. I have to say it was the worst service. We have not been there in a long time so it was a bit disappointing, We ordered our appetizers which took a while to come out. We also asked for the appetizers before the meal as we felt rushed to order. They brought our meals out the same time as our appetizers so we didn't eat them we asked for them to be wrapped up. We felt like it was a place they rush you because they want your table as it was very busy. I would rather spend my money at a place that you can sit and enjoy your meal. Rolly's is a great place to watch any type of Boston sports. My best friend and I started coming here because her boyfriend bartends a few nights a week. I think that if it wasn't so far from Somerville, we'd be at Rolly's like it was our day job (which, I wish it was). To break it down, Rolly's has great food and they are always adding items to the menu. My personal favorite are the steak tips - DELICIOUS! The drinks are reasonably priced and the cocktail drink menu contains over 100 options! There's keno, and the naked girl game (finding the difference between two pictures - it's a classic bar game for those of you still in teh dark)... and did I mention that the game (whichever one it should be) is always on. I think we went on an off day for brunch, but the food was pretty good. The restaurant is small but considering that it was once a dive bar what can one expect? The staff was really friendly even though all the issues(certain foods not being available, things like that) were out of their control. The portions were huge, and the place was almost spotless. Cold food on second visit earns one star. I'm giving two stars because on our first visit the food was warn at least. I really wanted to give this place a better review but cold food is about as bad as it gets when you're paying good money for a hot restaurant meal. First visit in July 2012 was quite good. The place is fairly small and casual. Looks like lots of regulars go there. I had a fried clam platter on special which is something I would normally not do except in certain places in Essex or Ipswich. It was good. My friend had a seafood platter and liked it enough to get it again the second time we went. On our second visit the place was packed and clearly the kitchen was a little stretched because service was pretty slow. We weren't in a rush so that was fine. My food, a steak and cheese sub with fries, arrived with cold fries and a sub which was barely lukewarm. The plate had been sitting for a long time before being served. My friend's seafood platter had hot, hot fries straight from the fryer but everything else was just warm. What a huge disappointment. The waitress offered to take my meal or fries back but I told her to just take off the charge for the fries, a whopping $2 reduction in the bill. We won't be back. Well certainly Rolly's Tavern Restaurants is one to use the freshest ingredients but they take things a little further. Remember the little things. Sure they use fresh Black Angus, however they have their own custom blend taylored just for them and delivered fresh every morning. Just another one of those "little things" . Your going to need plenty of napkins, more than you normally would use. Cooked exactly the way I wanted...medium rare... seems to be an issue to get this done, but like I said here it's the "little things". This is what makes it one of my top 10 burgers. My guest opted out of the burger and went for the Seafood Pasta. Remember those "little things". Fresh Fusilli pasta made everyday! Scallops not over done, just pan seared, perfectly cooked shrimp and surprisingly lobster was abundant and clearly just pulled from the shell. Delicious!! Came here for the first time with my boyfriend. He recommended this place so i said sure! I got a buffalo chicken wrap with sweet potato fries. It was really good. He got chicken alfredo. Visited Rolly's last night, will be long long time before I return. This was our "local" since it opened but we have witnessed decline in service and food quality over past two years. Last night was dreadful. Ordered appetizers, waited long time for them and only had part of our order delivered. Restaurant was not busy so no idea why and no excuse was forthcoming from waitress. We ordered our meals, (steak tips, fish and chips, fairfax salad with chicken, garden salad with chicken). Garden salad came with no chicken. OK, how long can it take to fix??? Long time it appears. Waitress assured us it was coming soon. When it was delivered (not by our waitress) she came by and removed it!! Then brought it back. Hello!!!! Time to go! Please wrap to go, please bring the check. Took meal to box, brought back. Asked if we'd like desert. No can we have the check? 17 minutes later, while waitress was 2tables away chatting, we asked again for check .......... no check. Went to cash register asked for help was appalled at inability to create bill. Waitress asked for help from bar tender, same result. Eventually this was completed. All in all a great disappointment. My husband and I sat at the bar on a recent Thursday night. The bar was about half full, and the restaurant just about the same. The bartender cheerfully took our drink order and was helpful with the menu choices. That was the good. The bad was the surf and turf - tiny size lobster with hardly any meat, and the steak tips tasted like someone dipped them in bbq sauce after they were cooked - it was pretty bad and we won't be getting that again. I got the burger and fries. It was ok, not a huge fan of the skinny fries, but the bartender did warn us. The other thing that was annoying is the bartender never checked back with us how the food was or if we needed anything else with dinner. If dinner is being served by bar staff that is a step that needs to happen. We go out 3x week and this is the first review I every felt the need to write. We will come back some other night and order other menu items and see what happens. read more
