Capponi's in Toluca, IL is one of my favorite places in the Peoria area. I always get the 1/2 chicken dinner with a salad, baked potato, and the family-style sides -- 1/2 spaghetti and 1/2 tortellini. The food is always amazing and the fried chicken is outstanding every single time. The staff is efficient, courteous, and always does a great job taking care of customers. The atmosphere is pleasant, comfortable, and makes for a great dining experience. If I could change one thing, it would only be to swap the whole baby carrot in the salad for chopped or shredded carrots since they're a little easier to eat. Stepped into the restaurant and walked back in time to my youth with the decor. Excellent service for my wife and I. But the food was the star of the show. The bread- hot warm and fresh. Delicious Parmesan cheese. The noodles- delicious and oh so freshly made. The meat sauce like a delicious pillow on top of the chicken Parmesan. Oh so yummy. Can't wait to go again. read more

My grilled chicken was dry that was serve to me today. My chicken was petite and the mash potatoes were about a cupful The dinner salad did not have any tomatoes or cheese. It was lettuce and l think a slice cucumber. The lettuce part tasted old and some of it was white. The waitress was super busy and did a good job. My hubby had the lasagna and said it was good. I thought the serving was small for $20. The hostess was friendly and kind! read more

Funny the reviews so far are either 5 stars (from people with profile photos) or 1 star (from people without profile photos). It's five stars rating from me. Been goin here for 35 years and the food is still the king in my "yelping world ". Order the chicken and ravioli of you're a newcomer. Don't expect fancy high brow food here, just excellent Midwestern cooking in a small friendly, former col mining town! Oh, and climb the jumbo on the edge of town before ya leave Toluca. In case you don't know what a jumbo is, it's the two large slag heaps that were left over from when Toluca was a thriving mining town until 1926. read more

Ive been going to Capponi's with my family for over 55 years. It's my favorite restaurant and I love there tortellini and spaghetti. Their fried chicken, chicken livers, steak, and appetizers are our family favorites. Will be there on Saturday. Bread perfect Sweet potato fries, side of spaghetti lots Pumpkin Tini Did not win the drawing done every 4th Monday (as is liver and onions). No one did so next one is $400. Of course there's the obvious chicken and tortellini to mention - but let us not forget that Capponi's has of the few bars in downstate IL that can crank out old school cocktails at the roomy and charming vintage bar: such as Old Fashioned, Tom Collins, Gibson, Rusty Nail, Bacardi Cocktail, Manhattans of the sweet, dry, or perfect variety, and of course a perfectly concocted martini straight out of the rat pack era. One of my faves back home, and I go there every time I visit my family. I just had my birthday dinner there. The bread is good (crunchy crust, soft middle), and I get the fried chicken every time (crispy and salty) =) I love the spumoni ice cream for dessert. read more

Low key family dining. Not fancy, but good. Our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive. Rather than go with their signature offering (fried chicken and pasta), I got the Buffalo Chicken Salad. It was a generous portion. The Buffalo Chicken was good with a little bit of spice. The bleu cheese dressing was excellent. Also ordered some fried mushrooms. Again, a nice sized portion. They were nothing remarkable, but not bad either. For whatever reason, cell service in this area is nearly non-existent. Props to Capponi's for offering free, reliable WiFi! read more

Went there for a family gathering and it as just like sitting around your table at home. Service was prompt and extremely courteous. Food was excellent. This restaurant is on the main drag of a small town in the middle of a cornfield near my home town. Sure, the decor hasn't changed since I was a kid, but thankfully, the recipes haven't either! It's family style Italian food and it's YUMMY! The pasta and sauce is really unique, the fried chicken is crispy and juicy (nothing like KFC) & it's soooo cheap! A family style meal for 4, including a couple of cocktails at the bar is less than $30!! Take me outta Chicago and let me dine in small town style! read more

Eating at Capponi's was such a disappointment. I am shocked to read the other reviews of this restaurant! There was nothing 'authentic Italian' about it. With the exception of the fried chicken, everything on the table was just frozen food, dethawed and slapped on a plate. The pasta sauce, the french fries, the chicken tenders, and the breaded ravioli appetizer were all clearly frozen and tasted like it too. Not one single thing was freshly prepared. The dinner salad was literally bagged iceberg salad with 1 baby carrot and a slice of cucumber thrown on top, then drowned in dressing. The dinner bread was hard, cold, and served with cold butter. I heard such good things about their pasta, but there wasn't a decent non-red sauce on the menu. It was all basically the same red sauce (with or without meat) served on your choice of frozen pasta. Yuck! I mean, for $15-20 per person, I was at least expecting some fresh food! Instead, it was like a dingy diner where everyone was dressed up, pretending it was classy! The entire time we were eating, the overhead lighting would dim every 5 minutes or so. I'm sorry, but this place is a dump. Maybe Capponi's was good back in the day, but take it from an impartial newcomer who wanted to like this place, it was pure rubbish! read more
