Cool place with two tables inside a 100 year old vault. Friendly efficient staff. Food was decent but not great. Chicken parm was more batter than chicken. House salad was great as was the brucetta. All in all a good stop to try in the area. read more

We went for the Thanksgiving meal. It was hard for us to change 40 some years of tradition, but our mom just passed and we decided to go out. The violin and ambiance were amazing. The manager immediately greeted us and helped my young picky kiddo get plain lettuce especially for her since she didn't like anything. His service and special touch really meant a lot. How lucky you are to have a manager like that. They asked if we would sit high top and we didn't want to so they put us in the vault: sooooo cool. Private. Awesome. The server was fantastic. Food was ok. Salad bar and soup were good. Bartender was nifty. Overall a great experience. read more

Breakfast review: This review is from last September, the Yelp app wouldn't allow me to post 2 reviews at once even though I had visited Saturday evening and then again Sunday morning. My girlfriend wanted to go for the breakfast/brunch the day after I had just went to dinner here. She was running a few minutes behind so I went in and got us a table. There were maybe about 4-5 tables being served when I got there. We thought maybe there'd be a rush or something after the churches let out but there were never more than 5 tables being used the whole time, maybe this isn't a very good breakfast spot. I waited for 8 minutes before flagging down someone to give us at least some water. Then about 10 minutes after that our server Jamal shows up and says there was some confusion on who our server was supposed to be... not a very good start. I was just going to have water to drink but our server raged on about how awesome their Bloody Mary was and that it was the best he'd ever had that I just had to try it. At 15.00 you'd expect it to be amazing but it wasn't. It really didn't have much of a flavor and was pretty watered down. I didn't even finish the whole thing it was that bad. It did however have a slice of bacon, some olives a celery and carrot stick in it so it looked good but the taste just wasn't there. There were a few breakfast items that sounded pretty tasty . I asked our server about the corned beef and hash breakfast and if it was like the shredded corned beef or if it was more like what you get in the can. He said it was made fresh there and like the shredded corned beef.... Wrong, it was like the canned. Which was ok I would of probably ordered it anyway but when your expecting it to be one way and it comes out the other I was a little disappointed. I also ordered my eggs over easy as I like to dip my toast in the yoke but they came out hard. I would of mentioned it to our server if he hadn't waited about 20 minutes to come check on us. My friend ordered a lunch item The Goodfella as I told her my son had gotten it the night before and really liked it. All in all I'd say skip the breakfast/brunch and just go here for dinner read more

I finally checked this place out! I have to admit I was a little disappointed. I got the shrimp scampi, which was fine, nothing amazing that I couldn't make at home, and some bread would always be nice to go with my pasta. My husband is a prime rib lover, so he ordered the king cut prime rib for $48. He was extremely disappointed! He said the taste was mediocre at best, but the disappointment was more because the cut of meat had so much fat and hardly any meat at all. He generally gets full off of a queen cut, but didn't even get full off of a King cut this time. We would've mentioned it to our server had he checked on us and asked how things were. We may try it one more time someday, but we won't be rushing over there anytime soon! The ambience was decent, but if you have 3 restrooms as you do, then just close down the one where the ceiling is falling apart, leaving a pile of dust on the floor. read more

The food and service was impeccable. I had a great salmon entree. My girlfriend's pasta dish was great. My only complaint is that the lighting is way too stark. If they could tone that down the room would feel much more intimate and inviting. That would improve the sales. Overall, very good and the only place like this in Streator. read more

My wife and I went to this restaurant and it was delicious. It was a Saturday so of course we had to get the prime rib. Was a great meal, super great service and we even got the special tour from the owner to see what the place is going to become. It's a VERY nice place now, but I'm super excited to see the ending results of what this place becomes! Highly recommend!! read more

My friend Rose brought me here for a birthday dinner treat. This restaurant is newly opened. This place is still getting on there feet. The place decor and atmosphere is AMAZING. Love it!! The prices are much higher than usual steakhouse. The service was friendly and professional. The drinks were strong and didn't have much flavor, but then again I like them strong. But being that it was a fruity drink it shouldve had some flavor. The appetizers were good. The steaks were just OK. I had to ask for A1 sauce for my Filet. The garlic potatoes were just mashed potatoes. So their cook really needs to step up their game for this kind of an establishment and those prices. I was very disappointed by the prices and food quality. Considering I travel coast to coast each year and eat steak regularly. Then again I'm giving this place the benefit of the doubt since they're just newly out there getting their feet wet. read more

After offering some constructive criticism and being blocked from commenting on their social media, I have gone this route. I have cooked, in Italy for over 25 years. I have traveled to the US to visit friends and family, eaten at questionable "Italian/American" restaurants in the US. They are mostly the same and predictable. I am visiting family now and have witnessed the change that Streator is making, for the better. But this is not better. There is no focus on the menu. Drain your pasta, is very simple task. Lime and truffles? Pad Thai? A "Tomahawk"(a ribeye with a long bone, lol and charged more), that is only a few. Why is there a flower on each plate? Service was slow and not focused, which is understandable because they are newly opened, but the mistakes on the food is not right. Reconsider your "Chef" and hire an actual chef and not a nursing home cook. And you should check your menu pricing because it is not worth the money. I wish I would have taken photos, but that would have looked very obvious. If you care about the food you are serving and the people you are serving it to, do better. This restaurant is a fantastic, family run (actually met members of the family on our first dining experience) addition to Streator--something many of us have been hoping years to have (why should we have to drive to Ottawa or Lasalle/Peru for an outing?). Food and service were exactly what I would expect at this price point. Finally a great cocktail and modern menu in a great place! I tried a few of the probation era cocktails and they were exactly as I have had at top tier restaurants. I am baffled at some of the comments--have you ever eaten at a bustling restaurant? Note: We split our time between Streator and Chicago. This is comparable to any quality restaurant in Chicago. In fact, the ease of parking and large patio make it a gem for the local area and will likely attract folks from other towns. I can't wait until we can use the limo service and dine in the vault. read more

My husband & I went in tonight for our 3 year wedding anniversary. They had a date night menu for 2 which was perfect! Jamal took care of us & let me just say, he is fabulous! He is so inviting, professional but also very personable & overall excellent @ what he does. The business is lucky to have him, because service is everything & he really took great care of us! I worked in the industry for 16 years & always took pride in my job, taking excellent care of my patrons & giving them a memorable experience. That's exactly what we experienced tonight! We ate at the Vault a few weeks ago and it was delicious! Our service was spot on for a Saturday night and our food was absolutely delicious. The owner stopped by our table, introduced himself and thanked us for stopping in. We had a small suggestion of dimming the lights to add to the dining atmosphere and Rick immediately walked into the kitchen area to grant our request. It's very obvious to me that the owners are willing to do whatever it takes to make the patrons happy. My suggestion to any guest that comes across an issue with their meal is ask for Rick or Stephanie, they will immediately do whatever it takes to make you happy. This is the type of entrepreneur who I like to patronize, always doing what it takes to make customer happy. We will continue to keep the Vault in our regular Restaurant rotation. My wife and I decided to dine here tonight. Let me start off by saying this is one of the most impressive looking restaurants I've been in. There is a large vault at the back of the restaurant and there are even a couple 5-6 tops in there so you can dine inside the vault! There is also an upstairs dinning area where my wife and I decided to sit. It's cozy and quiet and there is even a smaller bar upstairs with a limited selection although you still have full access to everything downstairs. We started the evening off with some fried calamari. It was excellent! Super crispy and tender with three sauces to dip in (buffalo, marinara, and some sweet and sour). We also got some starter dishes with our entrées. I got clam chowder, which was excellent. It had large chunks of clam and red potatoes. My wife ordered the Cesar salad and it was good. For our entrées my wife ordered the lasagna. It was disappointingly middle of the road. You get a 26 dollar portion but you don't get 26 dollar quality. It wasn't very flavorful, the sauce was a bit on the sweet side and the center was warm at best, but certainly not hot. I'm worried Chef Mike (the microwave) heated up the lasagna. When it arrived she was offered parmesan cheese to put on top. My wife accepted and when our server returned I was expecting a wedge of parmesan with a grater. What she had was glass shaker with the stuff you get at the store or a pizza shop. With the prices on the menu it was a bit surprising to see what was essentially Kraft parmesan in a glass jar. Even Olive Garden, the Great Value of Italian restaurants, does fresh parmesan. I ordered the brick chicken. In the menu it was priced at 27 dollars and advertised as half a chicken cooked in a pan with some other wording. It made no mention of a brick in the description but I felt it was probably self evident. If you've ever had a brick chicken before it's typically half of or a whole chicken seared off in a pan until the skin is crispy and then a preheated brick is placed on the non skin side so it can be finished off in the oven. It's a delicious dish, I love it! What I got was not brick chicken, nor was it half a chicken. I received what appeared to be a breast cutlet with skin and a deboned thigh with skin. The skin was crispy-ish and the chicken had been marinated in something sweet. It was served on a rice pilaf with some sauteed spinach. It was good, but it certainly wasn't 27 dollars worth of chicken or flavor. I do want to compliment the rice, that was killer. I would order just that next time. The service was adequate, but nothing outstanding. I observed our server attempt to open a bottle of wine for a table while she was behind the bar. She drilled the wine key all the way through the cork and neglected to cut off the outer seal. This prevented her from being able to lever the cork out of the bottle. She had to take the bottle down stairs for help. It's not her fault, but it showed me that training isn't prioritized at this restaurant and for the prices they are charging I expect a well trained staff. EDIT: I was reading some other middling/negative reviews. The owner responds to these with unprofessional fervor that reminds me Amy's Bakery (IYKYK). I won't be back. If You're in the restaurant business and you can't take criticism with grace, you're probably in the wrong business. read more

Planned an entire party of 30 plus people for a very special event for my family. The event planner finalized it with me and set up a meet time a week before. While I continued to plan the party, the GM called me 15 minutes before my scheduled meeting to cancel the entire event. He stated he didn't have enough food and it would have to be cancelled. He didn't seem to care how much planning this took nor that people had already made accommodations because they were traveling from out of state. He stated he was sorry and that he was unable to accommodate that much food. He gave me no alternatives. Very unprofessional, would not recommend in the case that you need to make heavy plans for something so special. read more

We went to Gaetano's on Aug 26th with all of my family, and there were 10 of us plus a baby. We ordered a few appetizers and entrees. Everything was going fine. It took a little while for our appetizers to come, and we had received 3 out of the 4, and then the 4th came 10 mins later, but that was ok. But after that everything went downhill. We had to wait an hour and 45 minutes for our entrees. Once our entrees arrived, the food was luke warm, some of the steaks were burnt with the insides temps being medium, and the baked potato was undercooked as well. We left very disappointed. The only upside to this meal was our amazing waitor, Jamal! He was so kind and understanding and was trying to make it right. He was also one of the best servers I've seen in a long time. The atmosphere is unique with seating in the vault. Service was friendly and efficient. The martinis are definitely a short pour didn't come close to filling the glass even less without the olives. I was very specific when asking the server about the thickness of the steaks. She assured me they were 1 1/2 inches thick. My filet was the thinnest ever 3/4 inch at best and cooked well done and I ordered medium rare. The manger agreed and Cooked me another which was rare still cool in the middle. My sons steak was also well done. When you are charging $49 for a steak it better be thick and cooked to perfection. They did offer a free desert for all the mishaps. Our bill was $179.44 plus tip over $200. Hopefully they get it together soon or they won't last long. read more

Had to wait a few minutes to be acknowledged, but once the waitress greeted us things moved along nicely. The space itself is beautiful. No expense spared in renovations. When upstairs and patio completed in a few weeks, Gaetanos Vault will be on par or above most restaurants in La Salle or neighboring counties. For dinner I had the grilled romaine salad, salmon and key lime pie. All very good. The meatball starter shared by 4 of us (1/2 meatball per person) was a good start to the meal. Finally after 50 years of living in Streator, a restaurant that I can recommend to people has opened it's doors. My only criticism is, lose the flower on the plate. Unnecessary expense. read more
