I've been wanting to check this place out for awhile now. My Mr. and I decided to drop before Record Sale Day at Plaid Room Records. Such a laid back joint! There is a huge patio area (shading) with plenty of seating (they have heated lamps/fans pending on weather). There is also a BBQ Food Truck if you get hungry. So much to choose from at Cappy's!!! They have such a wide range selection of craft beers. You can drop by and buy some beer/wine, or stay and enjoy beers on tap! Very impressed. We tried Record Store Day beer Soul Slab, a collab made by Jackie O's and Colemine Records, Dragon's Milk Stout and the Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS). Very friendly service and great draught beer selection. It's right off the bike trail, so we occasionally go for a run with a group of friends and then come hang out on the patio for drinks. The patio is nice, has tvs, and is covered and heated in the winter. read more

We usually go to the Norwood Cappy's but decided to take a field trip to see the original. We were there during the pandemic, so things were a bit different than normal, but still pretty cool place to grab a pint. It was also raining, but we were able to snag a socially distant table on the covered patio. With forty taps of draft beer there's something for almost anyone. The staff is beyond belief in how knowledgeable they are about everything that they sell from the beers on tap to what is in the cooler. if you ask them for their opinion they give you an honest review they're not worried about brand loyalty or sticking to just one if they like something they tell you if they don't then tell you why. They also encourage you to try new things with a free sample plus if you ever just want them to recommend something based on what you're going to be eating or somebody's taste palette you can just be honest with them and they will help guide you not only with their beer selection but also with her vast wine and spirits. There is no doubt that beer reigns supreme here and every other form of alcohol takes a back seat, or maybe rides shotgun. I would say the name "wine and spirits" is a tad bit of a misnomer. Anyhow, the guys behind the counter are knowledgeable and know there way around a keg, growler or a snifter or two and would certainly be able to help you pick a good cabernet if you asked. ;) We had a flight of their darkest, most luscious beers on tap and loved all of them. We paid dearly as it was possibly the most expensive flight of beerl I've ever had. Yeah it was worth it but the sticker shock came in a way that left me reeling and thinking I wish they would have said, hey, before we pour these beers, the total will be $X. It's not a math deficiency on our part, but a ignorance of their cost procedures with flights of craft beer. There were a few people on the patio getting a bit wasted (no complaints, more power to them!) so that was slightly entertaining. We enjoyed the heat pumping out of the ceiling since it was an all to typical of recent gloomy rainy cold Ohio afternoon. Blah! But hey, we had great beer, so I should not complain. I perused some of the more common varieties of beer and wine and did find Cappy's to charge a premium, most likely due to their location and lack of competition. I am glad we live more central to Cincinnati and have price competition that unfortunately the residents of Loveland are not privy to. read more

This is probably one of the most disgusting liquor stores I've been in since college. And that was a long time ago! The staff has amazing bad body odor, coupled with cigarette smoke. It is not an enjoyable experience. The wine selection is almost nonexistent. Especially cold wine. People like this place because of the craft beer. Customer service is absolutely horrible. I asked for a certain bottle and the guy behind the counter said with disgust "what about it" . A customer left ahead of me after buying many items. The staff behind the counter proceeded to take bets and laugh at him because they were unsure if his hair was a TUPE or not. Highly inconsiderate snobby know it alls. The only reason this place couldn't achieve 4-5 star status (which it could be easily) is the lack of customer service. I've been here a few times and the beer and liquor selection are great. However, the times that I've had questions, this rude red bearded guy was not very helpful. He brushed me off basically and said if the beer I was looking for wasn't there then they don't have it. I don't know, maybe you could go check for me ? I mean you are running a business... there should be some level of customer service to make a profit, right? They have a good selection of beer on tap and in bottles, but check the bill. Twice I've realized that I was overcharged after I'd left the store and this last time I caught it while I was still there. I ordered a pint of beer (it was listed as a pint on their menu and I said pint) but was served a snifter instead. Then when I paid, I was charged $23 the pint and a 6-pack. When I told him I only had a $5 drink and a $12 6-pack, he gave me $5 back. So when I ordered a pint and they gave me a snifter and tried to charge me for 2 pints. I would just consider this an honest mistake if I had not already been overcharged twice here. read more

I had seen many people check-in to this location on Untapped, so came to investigate. I'm glad I did. It is a top craft beer retailer in the greater Cincinnati area. They also sell/serve about 40 draft beers from mostly local breweries (Listermann, Streetside, MadTree, Rhinegeist, etc). The have a nice covered patio with about 12-15 tables that has a good crosswind from the river nextdoor. free guest wifi available on patio as well. the downside: they allow smoking on the patio which is not ideal. read more

I agree with many of the reviews that refer to the dismissive and often rude staff. I get it, Cappy's was ahead of the curve for the whole growler/craft beer thing and adding that wood deck was a stroke of brilliance but they are no longer as hip and cool as they think they are. It is really just a smelly liquor store with a now shabby patio area and rusty furniture that got lucky. I will occasionally go there because it is easy to get a drink and a table when DT Loveland is packed but the staff is so above it all it and unpleasant, they can't be bothered and when they can they are so condescending that it really is off putting. On nights when the weather is nice and the crowds are minimal you have to give Ramsey's or Paxton's or Tano's or Narrow Path a try for drinks plus they have food whereas for whatever unknown reason, Cappy's removed their food truck. Lots of newer and better places to try! read more

This place is great! It's a liquor store and bar with outdoor seating all in one. My wife and I went for a Shorts Brewery tap takeover event. They had 50 different beers from Shorts on tap. Definitely a place I will be checking out again. Great selection of craft beer to choose from and there was a food truck for food. I didn't eat so I can't speak to that. Had the opportunity to go to Cappy`s on Christmas Day this year for the first time. I have heard the talk around town about Cappy`s and their staff. However; seeing that I am 30 minutes away I just never made the drive. When I went in to Cappy`s at first its a little overwhelming. There is a lot of stuff around. Its almost like the TJ Maxx of Liquor Stores. You may need to do some digging to find your hidden gem. The staff was more than friendly and were eager to assist even that it was Christmas. This was our final drinking stop on our pub crawl on a Saturday afternoon. I wanted to stop by this place after hearing about it from a few locals. This is a liquor store with a twist. 40ish beers on tap with growler fills and everything. The outdoor seating in the covered patio was perfect for this unseasonably warm early March day. The lacing on my glass also told me that they knew how to clean their glassware (extremely important to me). Had a couple stouts while enjoying the people here. Everyone was super friendly. Speaking of friendly - dogs everywhere. Not the place for you if you do not like dogs. Knowledgeable staff helped me decide on a drink more quickly. Will be back when in Loveland. read more

Now it's THE hottest liquor and beer store around b/c they have a growler set of beer taps for craft beers, and it's POPULAR, and in addition to 9 dollar growlers (64 oz. refillable jugs), their 10-12 craft beers are well-chosen, no run-of-the-mill swill available on these taps! That, plus the staff is helpful and friendly; they carry a great selection of all types of liquors and mixers (wine--eh, not so much but they're trying to pull that together also), and they keep the liquor and the entire interior very clean and organized. Not going to lie, I found out about it from Randi Rico (yes, the meteorologist) on Twitter! Then I started following them on Twitter and was super interested in their events. They have every beer that is special and unique that comes out + all the wine and full-service liquor store. They also have tons of taps where you can grab a beer and take it out on the patio. They also have food trucks that come for food options. They are super active on social, which I appreciate so I know about their events and what beers are in. It's can get a little cramped getting a beer at the front of the store with people trying to checkout and lingering. Cappy's definitely makes a trip up to the burbs worth it for this city girl.
