Walked in at 7:18pm on a Sunday. Their hours state they close at 8 and the kitchen closes at 7:30. We returned to Cappy's after a long hiatus. My son was interested in trying Chicago deep dish pizza, and Cappy's is the only place that offers it in south Tampa. I called ahead and ordered the pizza for a Tuesday night at 8PM. We arrived on time, and the parking lot was nearly empty. My food was packaged to go and piping hot. The thin crust pizza had been cut but the Chicago style pizza was not, which was preferable. I thought the thin crust pizza was fine, but the Chicago style pizza was quite good. I thought the crust was a little sweeter than I preferred, but I did love how buttery it was, and the sauce was so nice and tangy. Cappy's now takes credit card! There's a convenience fee, but that's becoming increasingly common, and I was just so delighted to not have to have cash on hand. read more

I have heard so many people RAVE about this place and was so excited to try but was left so disappointed. I ordered a large cheese with caramelized onion, a small deep dish with pepperoni and 2 sides of ranch. They are cash only which they informed us over the phone but did not inform us of the price. The large cheese with caramelized onions was given to us with raw onions, would not of ordered raw onions on a pizza and was really disappointed at the taste. I'm not a fan of raw onions as is. The deep dish with pepperoni came with approximately 4 thin slices of pepperoni. To be paying almost $3 for a topping and get so few pepperoni slices that it wasn't till the 2nd slice that I got any at all is absurd. Two ranches were not included. This used to be such a good pizza joint. I just tried calling them right after opening time (5pm) and got hung up on seven times and got about forty busy signals over 20 minutes. So, we decided that I'd keep trying by phone and another member of our group would drive the fifteen minutes to place an order in person. When they got there the place was closed because of the July 4th weekend. So, closed 3-5 July. No way of knowing that. It wasn't on their website, wasn't on a phone message, nothing. And, what level of service does a pizza joint sink to to not be open on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday over a holiday weekend. Apparently business is so strong they feel they can shut down anytime they like. With no notice except a paper stuck in a window. Why business is so strong you got me. The place is a dump with little seating. Used to be their pizza was excellent. It's still very good, especially the crust. But, we'll never go back. read more

I'm the only one in my family that likes deep dish pizza. This is the only deep dish I'll eat in Tampa. I grabbed this as carry out last weekend. This is the small deep dish Cappy's (their deluxe). It never disappoints. Tip- if you go on a Friday night, go slightly before they open. I was there at 4:40. It was ready in 25 mins just like they said. Food- Chicago Deep Pizza, Veggie (Not Olive Fan). I'm a huge pizza fan and by far this was delicious! You can tell the mushroom, green peppers and onions were sooooo freessshhhh! My top pizza spot in South Tampa! I love this place! Super chill atmosphere, self-serve beer cooler and outstanding pizza. Hubby introduced me to Cappy's close to 10 years ago and it's been one of our staples ever since. They are cash only! So come prepared. Their parking lot is small but we've never had an issue finding a spot. You must order the Greek salad! They have the best Greek salad outside of a Greek restaurant. They only use the freshest ingredients in their salads. They also make their own delicious homemade Greek dressing! The potato salad is so good, hubby's absolute favorite. I love their Chicago style deep dish pizza. We usually keep it simple and order our deep dish with pepperoni. They use the large sandwich style pepperoni slices in their deep dish which I think is the best kind of pepperoni. The sauce on top is on the chunky side but perfectly tangy and sweet at the same time. The crust on their deep dish has a great crunch, it's buttery and truly amazing. Their deep dish is just as good leftover as well, whether eaten cold or reheated. Their New York style is slightly thicker than a traditional New York style. Cappy's is the best Chicago style pizza in the Tampa Bay Area! Please expect to call 30-50 times to put an order in during high call volume periods. They are not answering and putting customers on hold as I experienced last Friday. It's just ringing busy. Once you do get through they have a great setup for pick up outside the restaurant and pie is hot and fresh. They use premium toppings and I have had a very consistent pie every time. Crust is sweet and crunchy with a mound of cheese followed by toppings and a chunky, sweet tomato sauce on top that brings it all together. The sauce has a great flavor and is definitely spiced appropriately with some garlic and oregano notes. If you are feeling like a salad their Greek salad is a family favorite and the dressing is so good they will sell you a bottle. read more

Had Cappy's pizza for the first time this past Saturday. The Gasparilla Kids parade event made it a little tough to get to the restaurant itself, but that is no fault of Cappy's (and hopefully the potential permanent lane closure on Bay to Bay will not happen anytime soon - or Cappy's is sure to suffer!). Normally I think it cool for cash-only restaurant, to exist in this modern day, but that would be a in a big city with a bustling population...not Tampa - where delivery and UberEats make all the more sense, especially on a day like Gasparilla. Nevertheless, my friend happened to be carrying enough cash and we were able to order a large New York style half cheese, half spinach pizza and order of garlic bread for under $20. Based on other reviews, you can also order a pie Chicago style, which is pretty cool given so few options offered at other pizza spots. The pizza we had was good - my friend enjoyed her half, and I enjoyed mine. We ended up placing our order for take-out, which worked just fine for our plans that evening. I got the feeling that the woman working behind the counter was expecting my friend to tip after receiving her change - but I half hope that I am wrong. In most take-out circumstances I compel my fellow diners to tip - but not in a cash only setting, where you don't offer the option of delivery and you don't allow people the choice in payment method. In this case, the service is all about the business, not the customer (IMHO). Given the obvious implications surrounding "cash only" transactions, I hope that a dine-in experience would elicit top-notch customer service (in which case a tip would indeed be appropriate). I've already told my family about how comparable Cappy's pizza was to true NY-style, so I am sure I'll dine in at some point to enjoy the full "NY pizza experience" :) read more

It's pretty close to our apartment so we are excited for the proximity. Craving some dough pizza sauce and cheese we were stoked to give this one a go. There's enough parking for pick up it was an easy process 30 bucks for a small and a large pizza. We got a veggie large which was very yummy cooked pretty well too. The small cheese was fire. I loved it. Felt like an artesianal take on pizza. We didn't get the deep dish again we got the traditional hand tossed New York style. We also got the homemade ranch which was nice. Homemade is always better. Usually made with more love. We will definitely be back I'd be down to try a couple of the different flavors. It hurts me to say that I recently discovered my favorite Tampa pizzeria who provides deep dish akin to my love Charlotte's Chicago cut... does not believe in mask wearing. Upon further investigation and chatter amongst cronies of mine, we all agreed their pizza is delicious, however we noticed all patrons were mask wearing, whilst employees were not clad with proper protective equipment. Such a pity, we love local businesses, especially one as institutional as Cappy's. But the fact remains, as a physician I swore an oath to protect people from disease, and as much as I so wish to support this locale eatery, I cannot compromise my ethics and support those who as a whole cannot wear masks to protect people. I have worked with asthmatic, claustrophobic, dermatologically challenged doctors in my residency, and their health issues did not prevent them from wearing masks in surgery.
