This once family owned, local neighborhood sub shop has lost its original goodness. Most of their staff (my local shop) are not friendly, never a smile, they display a: "Your bothering me" attitude virtually all the time. Their food, leaves a lot to be desired. Disappointed the last couple of times I ordered there. Ordered a chesse steak a couple of months ago and the meat was dry and the roll tasted stale. Thought it was just a bad night for them. So I ordered the same again recently and the same thing. Meat was dry and overcooked and rolls tasted stale. Not sure if they are under a new owner or manager. But the quality has deteriorated over the past year or two. I understand about inflation so i understand their sandwich sizes went down and the prices went up. But the quality should not go down. How does Capriotti's only have three stars?? It's a Delaware staple. I moved away a few years ago and it's still one of my must-haves whenever I come home for a visit. You really can't beat their turkey subs. I popped in today to pick up a few subs and the staff was friendly and quick. We were on our way in under 10 mins (and our order was correct and delicious). I saw some reviews say that this place is overpriced but I don't necessarily agree. The subs are so filling, I almost always have leftovers. I feel like I get my money's worth! In terms of COVID precautions, all staff was wearing masks and there are signs telling customers that masks are required as well. I wish there were a Capriotti's closer to me so I didn't have to cross state lines for my Slaw Be Jo fix, but it's worth the trip. The secret to a great hoagie is the bread. You want something soft to bite into, but hard enough that it still holds up to all the good fixings stuffed inside. I don't know where Capriotti's gets theirs, but it's *just* right. The Slaw Be Joe is by far my favorite -- roast beef, coleslaw, provolone and Russian dressing. But I'm also sucker for a classic cheesesteak, and in winter, that's exactly the kind of comfort food I'm willing to drive for. I've never had issues at this location with staff or waits, my food has always been good, and I'm satisfied with the amount of food I get for the money. I've heard they recently changed their sizing, so I'll just have to plan another visit to see what that's about. read more

My sandwich tasted good - that's important. But I ran out of sandwich long before the bun was gone. If I buy an 18" sandwich and 3" from each end is just bun, shouldn't it just be called a 12" sandwich with "extra bun"? If you can't fill an 18" bun, don't sell an 18" sandwich. The worst part is that the middle of the sandwich still only had half the amount of meat it used to. Whatever cost is trying to be cut here won't help when people stop coming due to only getting half of what they expect. The sandwiches are decent enough. I've been here a few times over the last year and they have this one guy working there with tattoos all over his face. My kids call him pumpkin head. He's always high as a kite but I got a chuckle over him. Until recently when I watched him try to sell weed to a couple of teenagers. I don't look down on weed. But my kids are 12 and 10. I listened to him haggle with the price of the weed to 3 kids that looked 16-17 years old. I won't be back. My kids won't be that environment I won't allow it. I should be able to get a sandwich with my kids without worrying that some 25-27 year old loser will be trying to push a drug on them. I don't know why I continue to give Capriotti's my business! Attached are pictures of a Large Bobbi which I paid over $18 for. Literally half (maybe less) filled. I was able to put everything from one half into the other just to prove a point. I've been eating Caps for 25 years since I was stationed in Dover, DE for the Air Force. They subs were so full I could only finish half of a small. Times have changed and the original Capriotti family would be disappointed to know what their legacy has become. Kennett Square, Jennersville, and Hockessin are all so disappointing. Not sure if they're owned by the same person but the dismal quality is all the same. Get it together! It's rare you find a really good cheesesteak if it isn't directly in Philly but this is one of my favorites for sure. The wagyu cheesesteak is probably one of the best cheesesteaks I've ever had. We've been to this lunch spot twice in the last week and it's worth a third visit. The first time I ordered 'The Hot Bobbie" in a large size. My husband and I split it and it we both had some left over for later. It was very tasty! Today I ordered the 1/2 salad 1/2 sub with the chopped salad and Grilled Italian sub. They again were both of sufficient size that I had leftovers. My husband ordered The Classic Italian in a medium size. He liked it but said he'd wished they made their own bread. I've been to Capriotti's before. Their cold sandwiches are good. Not great, but good. From a size point of view, you're getting a generous sandwich. It's what's on that sandwich that matters. Last night I ordered both a medium meatball sandwich and a sausage sandwich. They were both generously sized. Both had a tomato sauce that was pedestrian. The sausage was nothing special. But the meatballs were particularly boring. They lacked cheese, oregano, garlic... You name it, the meatballs lacked it, except for salt. And the amount of salt that Capriotti's uses is as generous as the size. You will need water for hours, even if you only eat half a sandwich. Will I go return to Capriotti's? I've just eaten here one time, but I was very impressed with the Capastrami sandwich. We were hungry after only coffee for breakfast so we decided to split a large... 20 inches is not so big right? Actually, I think it was closer to 25 inches (l wish I had a yardstick with me). We soldiered on and finished it, but honestly, the large is probably good for 3 or 4 people. One of the most overrated places in Delaware. First off it's expensive, everything is overpriced and you can find cheaper and better at so many other places. Even other people I'm with they get these small sandwiches and when they tell me the price it's mind blowing people pay this much for Capriottis. I've gotten chicken cheesesteaks and each time the lettuce has never been on the sandwich and they just put it on the side. Makes 0 sense but its what they've done. Besides that customer service is normal its what is to be expected. Overall dont waste your time, just go somewhere else and get a better quality sub at a more affordable price. Just look at everyone else's review, you should know what to expect if they all have the same concept to the review they posted. read more

No kidding, that is my oldest and dearest childhood friend who wrote a review below me. And we didn't orchestrate this! If you are ANYWHERE near ANY Capriottis (and they have them in Vegas now) - get the Bobbie. It's turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce, and it's something of a Delaware legend. My husband is a total foodie, and he starts talking about the Bobbie on the plane before we arrive, every single time. It's that good. If you are a vegetarian, get excited: they have a vegetarian Bobbie that I ate about once a week as a teenager. Their other subs are good too, probably really good, but I only ever get the Bobbie, so I cannot comment on those. read more

While this is technically a chain, it's still a local business to the Wilmington area, and a delicious one at that. I have been coming for years, and whenever I come back to the area to visit the parents, I always stop by. The Bobbi is a amazing and so is the Capastrami. Those are favorites. But if you're looking for something basic the Turkey as well as the Ham and Cheese are still just as edible. And I mean that in the sense that I am NOT sharing. The roasted in house roast beef has been replaced with a deli roast beef. They say it's great because its wagyu... not a fan. it's still just a deli roast beef sliced thin. What happened to this sandwich chain?? I've been eating Capriotti's for 20 years- started when I was in the military in Dover. I couldn't finish a medium sub, made it into two meals. I ordered two medium subs today and it was a joke! They've now further downsized their medium subs from 12" to 10". The size of a wawa classic hoagie Which you can get for 5.99. I'm sorely disappointed in what this chain has become..but, hey, anything to save money and lose customers, right?! Ruined by the branch in Kennett Square, now Hockessin?
