We were really happy to learn that Casapullas has a Hockessin location. We arrived at about 1:30pm on a Saturday. We ordered for two of us to eat there and two to go. They were really backed up yet the young lady working the register was very friendly. The cheesesteaks were delicious. We did wait about 25 minutes for the steaks to eat at the location. The dining area is large but there are no condiments or napkins on the tables and no one really seems to eat there. We had to ask for condiments and napkins. In hindsight, we should have had the to go order placed after the in-restaurant meal. The to-go steaks were just not as good because they were not hot. The microwave could not restore them to their previous glory. Observations- The grill needs to be double the size and somehow can the temp be increased? Four people were working the grill and we could hear complaints that it wasn't hot enough for the approximately 30 steaks on the grill. Also, it would be helpful to have numbers or an organization system for the many pick-up orders. There seemed to be a lot of confusion surrounding the pick-up orders. For example, there was a guy named Nick with an order and two other Nick orders. Maybe use last name? All told, Casapulas still beats Capriottis!

I stopped by Lettie's with my mom yesterday for a late lunch before heading up to PA to visit…read moreLongwood Gardens. I'd had Lettie's bookmarked for at least six months, and recently saw that they won Best of DE Editor's Choice for fried chicken. In light of my not-so-secret love of Southern/soul food and fried chicken in particular, I knew that I needed to check Lettie's out, esp. after seeing the tantalizing photos on Yelp. Per other Yelpers' advice, I called in my order en route 20 min. ahead of time, which worked out perfectly for us. Upon arrival, I gave them my name for the chicken, and we ordered sides of potato salad and mac and cheese, as well as freshly brewed iced tea to drink (note: they only brew unsweet iced tea). After ordering, we took a seat on the wraparound porch, and they brought the food out to us in less than 5 min. From my first bite into a drumstick, it was clear that this was the best fried chicken I'd ever put in my mouth. The skin was perfectly crisp, with the perfect amount of breading to give it a satisfying crunch, and the meat was tender and oozing with moistness. My mom told me that this chicken was the closest she'd ever had to my great grandmother's fried chicken from Arkansas, and was "real Southern fried chicken." For my part, I can say that it's better than the fried chicken I had at several well-known Southern restaurants in Atlanta, as well as any fried chicken I've had to date in Pittsburgh. As difficult as it is for me to admit, it's even better than my own fried chicken! My only minor criticism is that the breading was a bit salty for my taste--but even so, its texture was so perfect that I can overlook it. As for the sides, both of them were clearly homemade, and were very good. The mac and cheese was made with a sauce that tasted like sharp white cheddar was used, and was on the creamier side of the spectrum. I don't even really like potato salad (I find it very bland), but I tried some and thought it was decent, which is high praise from me. It had small pieces of dill pickle, celery, and hard boiled egg mixed in, giving it some nice flavor and crunch. Needless to say, my mom and I were extremely impressed at the quality of the fried chicken from Lettie's. Although the chicken is technically broasted, since it's cooked in a pressure cooker instead of deep fried, it's difficult to tell that it's not fried--the only difference is that it's slightly less greasy on the outside. My only regret is that I forgot to order dessert, since I would have loved to try the key lime pie and my mom would have liked to try the chocolate cake, both of which I'm certain must be excellent based on the quality of everything else that we tried. If you appreciate good fried chicken and home cooking, Lettie's is a must-try--you certainly won't regret discovering this hidden gem in Hockessin!

Also, all of their side dishes are great. My fav are the potato salad and the Mac salad. When ordering chicken, I would try to call ahead bc they will cook it when u order it. The food gives you that fine dining experience without the pretentiousness. The staff is warm and friendly -- shout out to Chet for his amazing service. They were also very accommodating to our son who was in between napping when we began dining, setting up a high chair for us in a way that would allow him to continue sleeping in his car seat. We started the meal off with some seared scallops that were perfectly arranged. Next, my wife had some seared tuna while I ordered the Colorado bison -- both items off of the special seasonal menu. The dishes were incredibly flavorful and the veggies that surrounded the meat added a nice complement. I also really enjoyed my California cab, as did my wife with her house Manhattan. We will definitely be back next time we are in Delaware, and highly recommend to anyone visiting the Hockessin area!

(Server rectified) The pasta carbonara was prepared using guanciale instead of bacon or pancetta. I found it too rich and almost over cooked. The duck wings appetizer my friend had were excellent. The fresh fish entree was delicious. The cheesecake dessert was a thing of beauty. I would probably try again, but it's a half an hour away. (We passed way too many other restaurants to try)

My last visit was March of 2014, and I am very happy it is still here. We had reservations for the bar area, and were seated right away at a small table. We started with a Pomegranate Bellini and vodka and sprite, with Shrimp Lejon. The shrimp were huge wrapped in delicious, crispy bacon with a dill horseradish sauce. This was a good start. Next we tried the Better Cheddar since they are known for that. Wow, it was cheese and smoke and figs and pear and nuts and crispy flat bread. So many fantastic flavors! I ordered the Grilled Yellowtail Special, and RJ had the NY Strip Special. Mine was so beautiful, , cooked perfectly, with asparagus and lumps of crab. RJ's steak melted in his mouth. We finished with an apple bread pudding that was absolutely incredible. Our server was friendly, fast, and efficient and we will definitely be back to enjoy more of the menu and check out their little shop next door.

About twenty minutes later nobody had come over and the restaurant wasn't all that busy. A couple sat down around that time next to us who within a few minutes was visited by a server and given fresh bread. We waited another ten minutes until a little after 6:30 before going to the hostess who told us she'd let someone know. A few minutes later the server who was serving the couple directly next to us came to us, apologized and started our evening. We both ordered the scallop and shrimp risotto and a few minutes later our server came to tell us they were out of scallops. That happen but it's better if the server tells you up front what they are out of. I ended up still getting the risotto with double shrimp instead of both proteins and my friend got the short rib. She said the short rib was very tender. My food was good too. I had the bourbon mule to drink and it was too sweet for my tastes. The ambience was ok but I sort of got a negative vibe from the 30+ minute wait for a server who was inches away from us and didn't notice we weren't being served.
