Another exceptional meal at Captain Anderson's! Tonight I had the fried oysters and they were prepared to crispy perfection! Lightly breaded, plump and flavorful, they were delicious. My husband had the grilled shrimp and he loved those as well. David was our server and he was great! Kerim is our favorite server but David is really wonderful as well, and we enjoyed their banter while we ate. There are good restaurants here in PCB, but few serve a salad, side, rolls, and hush puppies with your meal. I love baked potatoes and theirs are so good. I love the old Florida seafood house atmosphere of the place; it's been here a long time and they know what they're doing. Food is always good, service is practiced and exceptional, and the restaurant feels like home. Come here often and get to know the servers. They are masters at their craft and when you've come often enough, they'll greet you like family. Rare experience in restaurants these days, especially in a tourist town. Upon entering we were rudely greeted. I'm easy going but the lady at the front desk insisted that our group of eight be there to be seated.... Didn't ask us, just said.... We were all there waiting for her to get off the phone. Maybe she was just having a bad day. Food felt manufactured like you'd get at a theme park. Mains and sides came on separate plates, for the price you would expect better plating. And the oddity was the security guard with a vest that stated such. He stared at our table the entire hour plus we were there. Mind you, there were four 50 somethings and a couple college kids. No need for security. Captn Andersons never missed. The grouper imperial won the night but the charred jumbo shrimp and the lobsters were great. Is it a thing in Florida that drawn butter is actually margarine? There's a blandness to most melted butter I've been served down here that has me curious if it's not real. Nevertheless- the experience here is unmatched! Captain Anderson's is a PCB treasure! They have huge dining spaces, some waterfront views, cool memorabilia, a cute little boutique shop and a comfortable waiting area. Expect at least a 30 minute wait. Some of the servers have been with Capt Anderson's for years. Delicious complimentary dinner rolls! My broiler platter was a little on the overcooked side but my mom's hamburger steak (not a seafood eater) was great. We also had side salads and hushpuppies. Save room for the dessert! My husband and I went there for lunch last Friday. I ordered the fried oyster lunch and my husband ordered the fried clams/oyster combo. The oysters I received were no bigger than my thumbnail. I'm a petite woman and have small hands and those oysters were the tiniest oysters I've ever seen! It's like they cut two larger ones into tiny pieces and served maybe 8 pieces. My husband's were small too. Clams were unremarkable. I wish I would have taken a picture. The flavor was good but the size was ridiculous and served on a regular sized plate made them look even smaller. Needless to say, I doubt we'll be back. read more

There were four in our party and we had heard that the restaurant was quite an "experience." Indeed it is. Our server Iesha was very attentive and considerate--keeping me away from anything with onions in it. I ordered a shareable appetizer--calamari, which had both marinara and a "volcanic" sauces with it. I thought the calamari was a bit overcooked but the sauces were tasty. There were very large cheesy rolls and they were delicious. I got bay scallops, my daughter ordered ceviche, and our dining partners ordered shrimp platters. My daughter also ordered a coffee-flavored cocktail, which was delicious. All of us enjoyed our meals. There's a gift store with beautiful glasswork and jewelry, and other gifts, and a pastry shop! I cannot say enough good things about Anderson's! Sat right away in this HUGE restaurant. There was so much to see and it was a cool ambiance!! Jeedo was our waiter and he was knowledgeable about the menu and we started with the crab soup and a Greek salad. Both were exceptionally great!!! I got the mahi mahi while my husband got the scamp. I had a nice family dinner at Captain Anderson's this week. I'm local -- I've been coming to Captain Anderson's for at least 10 years. We always come back because the food is pretty good. It is what you would expect from an upscale seafood restaurant in Panama City Beach. We were a bit surprised (and I seemed to have forgotten about) the plethora of surcharges they added to their menu. Changing sides was a surcharge. The advertised prices were cash-only.... credit card use was a 3.5% surcharge. Sharing food was a $3 surcharge. It really minimized our experience. read more

Went in with a party of 8. They were very busy, which could have played a part. Ordered calamari and stuffed mushrooms for apps. The mushroom was FROZEN and tasted awful. Calamari was tasteless and rubbery. They gave us a new mushroom, but it still tasted awful. I ordered chicken Alfredo. This is one of the most basic things on the menu and personally my favorite food. It came with a soup or salad. I chose the soup of the day (potato soup). After everyone got their side, the waitress let me know that they were out. I decided to just get a salad. When they put it on the table, you could tell it was old. It was chunky and the noodles were all stuck together. I tried it and threw up in my mouth. It was the worst tasting thing I have ever had in my life. It looked like it has been made a week ago, refrigerated, and the put back in a bowl under a warmer. Absolutely awful. My aunt and grandmother both got salmon with a baked potato. ($ 3 upgrade by the way). We love salmon in our family and order it just about anywhere. When I tell you, this was the fishiest and nastiest salmon with absolutely no flavor that I have ever had. My brother's French fries were un edible. This was absolutely awful. I will never ever be back. read more

The She Crab soup was tasteless! No flavor or seasoning! I had way better She Crab soup at the Wharf Buffet and they should find their recipe. The Calamari was tender but so greasy and salty that it wasn't good at all and we only ate maybe 4 pieces. The server took it away knowing but didn't even ask if we didn't like it or offer to take it off the bill so we didn't say anything and paid for it anyways. Ruth Chris Steakhouse Calamari with Asian sweet chili sauce and peppers is so much better, they should find the recipe for it! 2 of us got the Fried Catfish and it was the Best Catfish we had ever ate so that was good! The ambiance is fantastic and the lady halfway in was very sweet. I will be back but stay away from the Sea Crab soup and Calamari unless they fix their recipes! read more

This was absolutely the worst food I have ever been served. We had mushroom appetizer that was still frozen. Then when our meal came the salmon wasn't anywhere near cooked! My baked potato (which is an upgrade) had no less than a 1/4 stick of butter and sour cream flowing out the top. My grand daughter got shrimp Alfredo that had to be refrigerated and then rewarded. Our other grandkids couldn't t even eat the French fries! We will never be back! read more

This is still one of my favorite restaurants to go to in PCB. I've been coming here since 2015, and eat here every time we come down. You will have to wait a little bit because they don't take reservations; however, they move pretty fast. We had about a 15 minute wait on our most recent trip. Their bread service is really good. They give you a basket of fresh warm fluffy rolls. I ordered the grouper imperial, which is my normal go to. I upgraded my soup to the she crab soup. I was too full for dessert this time, but we didn't leave disappointed. They also bring out a heaping plate of hush puppies with every meal for the table. read more

I'm going to give this places a 4.7 star in my book. It was nice, do not get me wrong, however, they are going for a high class restaurant and they could do better in a few ways. Our waiter, I hope was just new, talked so fast and quiet that you couldn't hear him over the very loud restaurant. However, the food was delicious. As pictured we started with a wedge salad which I had no regrets of. Then I got the 3 Cheese Shrimp and Grits. It was amazing. The Seafood platter was good as well but typical seafood except he stuffed crab which was ok good but different. I'd probably get something different next time because if the other entrees are as good as the grits, I want to try them all! I will say, we did wait almost an hour for our seats. We recently dined here from out of state. When we walked in the front entrance, there was an older woman playing on her phone at what looked to be the main host stand. She barely looked up at us and made it seem like we were bothering her. She told us to talk down the hall to the back. Once we did, everything was lovely. We encountered a man there who directed us where to go, and we were seated almost immediately. Our server was good, the She Crab soup was amazing, and the rest of our food was also good. However, the main woman working at the front table was a huge turn off and is likely not helping the restaurant at all. If she isn't part of the staff for the restaurant, there needs to be more signage or clear directions on where to go, as I'm sure many people are dining here for the first time. read more

We got Parmesan oysters to start, then the plate they're known for with lobster, shrimp, muscles, grouper and two sides. Thought grouper tasted a little fishy but everything else was great! she she crab bisque, cheesy grits, really yummy biscuits, fried jumbo shrimp. We enjoyed it all! My husband and I visited this restaurant while on vacation in the area. The ambience in the restaurant is very traditionally nautical. It is a quite large restaurant and has so many museum-quality photos and other items on display I really wanted to walk around. There is a separate 'lounge' bar which is very nice as well. The menu is mostly seafood options, but the other items (tomahawk steak) is quite impressive. The wine list is lengthy, and with at least 2 full bars cocktail possibilities are endless. Our servers name was Michael, and he was excellent. He was very attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. Our food was served quickly. I started with a cup of she-crab soup. Being from SC I'm a bit of a snob for Charleston-style she-crab soup. This was different. It was more the taste and consistency of potato soup with crabmeat. I missed the sherry and hint of tomato and spice if the Charleston variety. Entrees typically are served with a salad and one side. Don't miss the bread basket, and then when our meal came we got a plate of delicious hushpuppies. Best hushpuppies ever. Crunch when you bite, but hit and fluffy inside. My husband ordered the fried shrimp, and was delighted with it. His baked potato was completely done, which is great! I hate being served with a hard half-baked potato. I ordered the seared sea scallops and they were absolutely delicious. They were cooked to perfection and covered with a light, buttery sauce that did not compete with the scallops. Brussel sprouts were excellent. We arrived late and so we did not have a lot of time for dinner and we did not have dessert. Maybe will go back and have dessert later! read more

Captain Anderson's is a PCB staple and family tradition which keeps me coming back every year, despite it maybe not being the best deal out there. For a purely objective review I'd give it 3 stars, but my personal bias gives it one more. The biggest thing is they are really expensive for what you get. The seafood is super fresh and there's lots of options which is great, but it's really not anything super special. Most (all?) menu items lack creativity and the extra "oomph" of quality and flavor that you'd expect for a $40+ item. Servers are always nice and do a fantastic job of keeping things moving-that's no small feat! The ambiance could be viewed positive or negative depending on how you look at it. Captain Anderson's basically hasn't changed for the last 30 years, which gives it a somewhat worn out look and feel. However, this lends itself to the rustic ship feel they are going for, so it actually sort of works. read more

We arrived a few moments after 4 pm when they opened. We had a party of eight, which can be challenging! The server was very polite and punctual. She gave large portions of bread and even bowls of hush puppies-which were good. The calamari and crab "fingers" in garlic butter were delicious. The entree, seafood platter, wasn't good! A piece of what looked like red snapper shaped like a triangle seemed more like the head'ish area as it wasn't edible and had a wad of bones in it but no meat on the fish! The small sea scallops were tough and we ended up leaving them. Our table mates got crab cakes, sirloin steak, broiled seafood platter. It seemed the hiccups were the seafood platters as they didn't like their broiled one, either. The red potatoes and cheese grits were very good-with an up charge for the cheese grits! We had a 15 minute wait for a table at 5:30. The menu hasn't changed much if at all in 5 years. The table ordered grilled chicken breast, shrimp Alfredo and grilled whole pompano. One kid had a burger. Sides included fries, mashed potatoes and broccoli. Everyone ordered a salad to start. Two kids split an ice cream sandwich on chocolate chip cookies for dessert. The servers are professionals. Very friendly and efficient. Only complaint was the pompano were on the small side and the cheeseburger was pretty peppery for an 8 year old.
