We had a 15 minute wait for a table at 5:30. The menu hasn't changed much if at all in 5 years. The table ordered grilled chicken breast, shrimp Alfredo and grilled whole pompano. One kid had a burger. Sides included fries, mashed potatoes and broccoli. Everyone ordered a salad to start. Two kids split an ice cream sandwich on chocolate chip cookies for dessert. The servers are professionals. Very friendly and efficient. Only complaint was the pompano were on the small side and the cheeseburger was pretty peppery for an 8 year old. We arrived a few moments after 4 pm when they opened. We had a party of eight, which can be challenging! The server was very polite and punctual. She gave large portions of bread and even bowls of hush puppies-which were good. The calamari and crab "fingers" in garlic butter were delicious. The entree, seafood platter, wasn't good! A piece of what looked like red snapper shaped like a triangle seemed more like the head'ish area as it wasn't edible and had a wad of bones in it but no meat on the fish! The small sea scallops were tough and we ended up leaving them. Our table mates got crab cakes, sirloin steak, broiled seafood platter. It seemed the hiccups were the seafood platters as they didn't like their broiled one, either. The red potatoes and cheese grits were very good-with an up charge for the cheese grits! Andersons has fantastic food and was hands down one of the best places we ate on our vacation. It's more on the formal side with dinner rolls, all fresh food, professionally plated food, and a large ornate dining room overlooking the docks. Everyone here is super nice but unfortunately someone in my party had extreme stomach issues after dining here. The lobster in the sampler platter was rotten and he didn't realize it. He was on the toilet for the entire night, including going to vomit twice while we were dining there. The rest of us were fine as we didn't order the lobster. Highlights are definitely the crab claws, cocktail shrimp, and crab cakes. Crab cakes didn't have any filler and were heavily seasoned. Cocktail shrimp were juicy and large. After visiting here more than ten times, I've been wowed by the experience every time. But there are shades of gray in the most colorful paintings, and I want to clarify what makes Captain Anderson's such an amazing place to eat. Firstly, what's so great about Captain Anderson's? Quite simply, it's a great place to grab a fresh taste of Panama City when you want it. What's not to love with your choices between all the kinds of seafood? There's flounder, shrimp, and crab, alongside many other delectable dishes. I recommend their Sauteed Crab Fingers because they're "finger licking" good. (Okay, I'll show myself out now.) And don't be distracted by all the fish in the sea- the steak is spectacular too! Unfortunately, even if the seafood is legendary, it's quite expensive. Expect to walk out with a lighter wallet if you want to see (and eat) the best of Captain Anderson's menu. Additionally, the wait times can sometimes be quite long since the establishment doesn't allow reservations, but if you arrive at the right time (around 5:00, I've found) you can be seated within 10-15 minutes! The wait staff, for the most part, is on point with their efficiency and friendliness. (Except for a waiter the party had once, Cory J, who was more of a down-to-business guy.) The dining area is majestic and breathtaking. The light fixtures, the artwork, the upside-down canoes in the Port-side room... all of it is very pleasant to look at. And the windows look out onto the marina, which is a fun sight in and of itself! The two dishes I usually eat here are the Surf & Turf ($36, but it's an amazing amount of food) or the Sauteed Crab Fingers mentioned earlier. If you're overwhelmed by the amount of choices you're presented, how about giving one of these recommendations a try? Overall Captain Anderson's is a restaurant you can't miss in Panama City. Have been coming here once a year for years on our family vacation and always have a table over 10 each time. Service is always great and have never had an issue with any waiter or waitress myself! Although some changes over the years has ultimately brought Capt Andersons down such as the surcharge for an additional basket of bread along with portions being a bit small for me. The classy ambiance along with the marina just outside along with a bar that has cheap drinks next doors makes the wait bearable. read more

Only giving two stars because we did not have a wait and the server, Felicia, was great. I got the broiled seafood platter and the scallops and shrimp were so rubbery and hard to even eat, but after dipping in cocktail and tarter I was able to get them down. I chewed down on several pieces of shells when trying to chew the scallops. The portions were very low for the price. As for the grouper, I love grouper, however, I could not even eat this grouper. I had to verify with the waitress that it was actually grouper because it did not taste like any grouper I've had before. The only thing on the platter I enjoyed was the deviled crap (which I did not receive on my platter initially, however, our waitress and was great and got it for me right away.) Mac & Cheese off the kids menu was a $1 box of Kraft Mac & Cheese for $10 and no side. Don't get me wrong, my kids loved it, but for $10 I was expecting more and/or lower price for the Kraft. We don't mind to pay $$$ for good food, but this was simply not good food, especially for the price. My husband got the platter as well, but fried. Ate at Grand Marlin 2 nights ago and it was fantastic! Expecting the same here at Cap'n Andersons. Bar staff was friendly and accommodating, got there 7:30 and had to wait at the bar. Finally got called to our table. waitresses name was Haley F. She was pushy from the get-go cause they close at 9 and she apparently wanted to get out of there. However, not our problem. I heard another waiter a couple tables down being very polite and respectful to his table. We ordered charred jumbo shrimp and seared scallops, $26 and $44! Ordered the She-crab soup at an up charge and it was bland, needed salt, spices and sherry. She brought rolls to the table that were rock hard, uneatable. Hush puppies were dried out and tasteless and we both got collard greens, the nights special which were soooo salty, again, not eatable. Hubs finished his shrimp and scallops but I couldn't by this point, so disappointed. When she came with the bill, I showed her how hard the rolls were and the hush puppies and she blew me off. Came back with the dessert tray to which I replied, lord no!! So her tip reflected her crappy demeanor, which we never leave less than 20% even on a breakfast tab! But she didn't deserve the $15 I left on $118! I've come here multiple times throughout my life. Captain Anderson's is THE classic, old school "nice" seafood place in PCB. We arrived and they seated us at the window facing the marina, nice touch. Friendly service. I ate here maybe 20 years ago and it seemed sort of "meh" at the time. My expectations were modest this time. I was pleasantly surprised with how great it was. I had the Pompano, Greek style. A whole grilled fish--outstanding. Crispy seared skin, juicy, flaking fish. Perfect. Served with Greek salad and new potatoes. My daughter had 1/2 Broiled Florida Lobster stuffed with crab. Loved it. Most of the entrees were in the $30 range and included bread, salad, sides, etc. Not bad these days. read more

Have been dining at Cape Anderson's since the 80's. Always enjoyed it, but the passing of the original brothers and their head chef has provided a decline. The broiled whole flounder was mealy not flakey (overcooked or not fresh) and the sautéed blue crab claws were very large but had little taste (too big for fresh local this time of year). My wife had the grouper Imperial which she said was absolutely delicious. I had the crab stuffed flounder which was grilled to perfection but the problem I had with it was the crab stuffing was more stuffing than crab. Certainly they were fairly quick at bringing everything out once they had got our original cocktails and wine to us. With the openness of this large dining room which overlooks the marina and the number of people who were surrounding us, it was indeed loud. I was not that impressed with my flounder based upon what I stated above but would that keep me from coming back again? No, as everyone else seemed quite happy with their selections and their food. I went here with 4 friends, recommended by owner of 2 condos in the area. Took about 10 minutes for server to get to us and when he did he talked so fast and in such a hurry ,didn't get his name but I don't think (could be wrong on that) he gave us his name. My check was separate and ordered scallops with red skinned mashed potatoes and a glass of wine. The others ordered also. What I got was shrimp with potatoes. I let the waiter know and he said "sorry" and took it away., I also ordered another glass of wine at that time.My friends, of course started eating their food. 10 minutes later I did receive the scallops without the potatoes this time!!! No sorry , just left. Someone else did bring potatoes 5 minutes later and wine came another 5 minutes later. Meanwhile my friends were very close to being through eating and of course eventually waiting on me so I felt hurried because I didn't want them to have to wait. I did decide to talk to manager, ANNA, she was standing at entrance with at least 3 other employees and I told her the situation. Her response was sorry, could have been this or this, whatever... not my problem. All I know is we were All inconvenienced. She stated she couldn't comp a glass of wine which I already knew, I am aware of the laws! I said I feel I should be compensated in some way, I was totally willing to pay partially..She , ANNA refused to do anything except say sorry and lean against the wall... oh she did offer dessert which I did not want. I went back to table and server was there , he had already taken other friends payment.. I immediately put my credit card down, which he could have taken then. He chose to leave and i waited another 5 minutes for him to return which he never did after 5 minutes and my friends had left rather table so I left enough cash to cover bill. Horrible service and the manager.. just wow.. ANNA!! By the way I expected decent size , maybe 5 or 6 tender scallops .. received 15-20 small tough ones. My friends and I went around 7pm for our last night in PCB and it was well worth the wait for our window seat by the boats! Our server Cindy was the absolute best, the restaurant was quite busy, but she consistently checked on us and made sure we were enjoying our experience. She helped us out with what sides to get with our food as well as letting us know what they were for the night. We were very well taken care of and she did a phenomenal job making our night. All the praise to her!! We got 3 Maine lobster specials and I had the Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp. It was good value for coming with 2 sides and the amount of lobster they got. The starter bread was perfect as well, soft in the middle, but crisp on the outside. The pasta was some of the best i've personally had which was a surprise for a seafood place. Goes to show even if you aren't a the biggest seafood fan you can still enjoy. The atmosphere was so cute and I loved how it looked like a boat on the inside and how we got to see the dessert tray when we were ready to order them. Made things 10x easier as an indecisive person, the price for everything was reasonable as well for a splurge night. It ended up being around $120ish minus tip for the 4 of us, which was worth it to us. I'd definitely recommend any people vacationing to come if they can! read more

Came here for my birthday dinner. Beautiful restaurant. We were immediately seated. I didn't partake, but we got the oysters and cheese sticks for appetizers. They provide a basket of bread for the table and it was good. Our waitress was great and attentive. I had the crab stuffed shrimp with a baked potato and it was DELICIOUS. Each meal also came with a salad. I think it was the best meal I've had so far on our trip. I also tried the Honey Bubbles wine and will definitely be buying a bottle when I get home! They did offer a dessert since it was my birthday, but I declined because we had a cake back home. Will definitely be coming back here on future visits! read more

This is an absolute staple of a restaurant for my family. We come here every summer and the service is always amazing and the food is always consistent and delicious! What is also consistent is that no matter what day and time you go it's always busy with a wait. We have learned to go around 8-8:30 and we normally wait less than 30 minutes. While we wait, we browse the gift shop. Either way we sit and they always have delicious bread for starters which is always great to start with. With my entree, I got the Greek salad which is absolutely delicious and my favorite. For my entree, I got the grilled shrimp with fries and the taste of the fish is undeniably fresh and the fries are always top tier. Always love coming here and it is always a great time! read more

My in-laws came here every time they visit Florida and loved it, so we came here for a family dinner. I ordered broiled seafood platter and she crab soup. The portion wasn't as big as I expected, and was kinda small. Although the taste wasn't bad, the taste didn't amaze me, especially I was told this is one of the best restaurants in the area. Stuffed crab was quite disappointing - there was way too much stuffing. I could see the crab meat, but I couldn't taste the crab at all. It's pretty sad to say this, but the best food of the night was the free bread. What threw me off was a conversation with our server. My kid has food allergy, so I asked the server to make sure the zucchini and squash doesn't have dairy or egg. The server responded, there is no dairy or egg, just some butter. . . so I said "butter is dairy." I was very worried at that time because I wasn't sure if the food my kid will have would be safe to eat. My family has been vacationing in Panama City Beach since the '60's. My wife's mother was a server when Captain Anderson's first opened. When she grew older, my mother always visited Captain Anderson's on vacation with my aunt, uncle, and grandmother, and now that she has passed, my brother, sister-in-law, my wife, and I always dine here in remembrance of her. I am aware of all the accolades the restaurant receives which is why I'm rather baffled at the quality of the food we had tonight. My sister-in-law ordered the parmesan baked oysters, and, although they were served piping hot, they were caked in salty cheese and rather bland. My wife's mozzarella sticks were good but only just warm. I ordered the award-winning seafood platter broiled. The shrimp were rubbery, the fish was ok, the lobster tale was rather tough and not very flavorful, the stuffed deviled crab was so dry and tasteless that I couldn't eat it, and the scallops were lukewarm, rubbery, and half of them were stuck together in a lump. The server replaced the scallops for me but they were really no better than first batch. My brother complained (and he never complains about anything) that his fried platter wasn't very hot. My sister-in-law ordered the crab fingers and they were bland and not very hot. On a good note, my mushroom soup was hot and delicious. When we received the bill, there was an up-charge for my mushy cheese grits that I wasn't made aware of, and the different price for cc was an additional five percent. Now, I get it when a small restaurant charges an extra two-and-half but double that for one of the busiest restaurants in PC is ridiculous. To be fair, I've never been particularly enamored with this restaurant. I find the prices to be excessive and the food just ok, but tonight was a real disappointment. As my sister-in-law said "let's skip it next time". Update from last night. Looking through their reviews, it seems as though Anderson's doesn't respond, and with all the business they're doing, I guess they could care less, good or bad. One of our favorite restaurants in PCB. Lots of restaurants were recommended but this one is by far one of the best. I ordered the grilled chiurrasco steak with their cheesy potatoes. Yum! The steak was like butter. Absolutely delicious! And don't you dare get too full because you have to leave room for their in house made desserts. They are SO good! Overall a great spot!
