I suspect Captain Jim runs his ships all the same, no matter where they are located, so I'll put it here - but if the Captain is still in the same spot next year, I'll start the new Yelp page then. My grandfather lived in Dundalk all his life, and he was a tremendously important person in my life. He passed some time ago and is buried at... one of those cemeteries on German Hill, right across the street from Captain Jim's. I like to visit him on his birthday, and Christmas if I have the chance. This year would have been his 99th birthday. I put a box of Butterfinger candies on his headstone because they were his favorite, and decided that I would get some steamed crabs in his honor because they were also one of his favorite things (and I had the money). We were originally going to get the crabs somewhere else, but figured, 'hey, Captain Jim's is right here. Why not give them a try?' We weren't disappointed. It took about 20 minutes for them to freshly steam 3 dozen small males, and a pound of shrimp for us. It wasn't much more than $50 (which is what I had on hand from my grandmother, who has been without my grandfather for at least 15 years now). The scent of the (I'm guessing) J.O2 seasoning filled our van, and the steam from the crabs actually fogged our windows. I spent about 8 hours picking crabs. I find the activity so calming, and could do it all the time if my arthritic elbows and shoulders didn't throw an absolute fit the next day. The crabs were delicious and made me happy, and isn't that the point? We got two different butters to dip the crab in, but that's not really my thing. My boyfriend said that the plain butter tasted woody, and he didn't like that, but the garlic butter was a hit and he has used the leftover butter to make at least one dinner so far. The shrimp were lovely, and came with cocktail sauce, and steamed onions because what's the point of steamed shrimp if not to get some onions as well? I think we did right by my grandfather. End of summer update…read more.. I think I've eaten more crabs this summer than ever before. And 9/10 I've gotten them from here. I have never been disappointed . In most cases I've ordered just to eat by myself so I not mind getting the smalls which are typically about 2 each. You won't be disappointed! The crabs are delicious. Staff friendly. I ordered 2 dozen Male crabs for 45 a dozen. With the exception of one crab they were all heavy and meaty. This is my go to crab spot!

I know a lot of people have issues with people using food stamps for crabs, but I don't answer to judgemental strangers who think they're better than "the poors." I don't tell anyone how to spend their money. That's just none of anyone's business. They needed an hour to steam. It was the weekend, Father's day weekend at that, so I'm sure they were busy. The crabs were huge and full. However, I find that the seasoning is a bit bland. I have been told that they make their own seasoning blend. I added salt. I feel like it wasn't spicy enough. I never thought I'd have an opinion about seafood seasoning, but I prefer classic Old Bay or J.O. However, the meat was sweet, and thoroughly enjoyable. Craving satisfied. At least for now.

Everything went very smoothly from the ordering to the pick up. The crabs were heavy and very flavorful. We really like the large amount of crab spice they use - no cutting corners here! It's a cute white house located in the middle of Essex on Eastern. They only have carry out and you have to walk up to the right side of the house where the window is for the pick up. There are many times I'm disappointed when ordering crabs b/c something is wrong (crabs are light, missing crabs, crabs are double steamed) but I know Steamin' Demons is the place to go for hot, fresh crabs!
