Salty dogs has become my favorite place for crabs. It's a very small crab house located in Dundalk and so far they not disappointed. Every time I've visited the staff has been very friendly. Having worked in the industry for a few years I am very tuned into what great crabs are. Happen to be in the Dundalk area and had a dozen extra large, corn on the cob, steamed shrimp, cole slaw , and crab meat stuffed double eggs. We haven't lived in the Dundalk area for years, so we were in town and of course wanted to get crabs. We were pointed in the direction of salty dogs crab House. It's a small spot, but the service is amazing. A lot of people order ahead of time and just pick up their food. We just ordered there and waited about 20 minutes, which isn't bad at all. The crabs were huge and delicious. We also got shrimp which were big as well. Definitely worth the money. We actually drove back home to Virginia with these crabs as well and they lasted the entire ride. read more

I'm from Maryland, and although this place isn't close to where I live, the homeowners association always gets crabs from here for our summer crab feast. After being disappointed by several nearby crab stores, I finally decided to make the drive. As soon as I stepped in, I was greeted by friendly staff. The crabs and corn didn't disappoint. The crabs were meaty and the corn was sweet and perfectly cooked. The 2 dozens crabs for 4 people lasted two days because they were so full and hearty. Highly recommend! Salty dogs has very good steamed crabs. probably the best in the Dundalk/Essex area. It is carry out only no sit down eating. The are I bit expensive so expect to pay more then let's say Conrad's in parkville and that's ok because you save on the drive and the time. Our go-to place for crabs for the following: prices are reasonable however flavor is phenomenal and they are consistent. I ordered two bushels of #1 males and I had friends comment that they were some of the best crabs they had ever had. Some of the #1s were small but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt as this is a slow year. This is our goto place for Fresh Maryland Crabmeat and Steamed Gulf Shrimp. Their prices are reasonable, paying about $26 for Maryland BackFin and $34 for Maryland Jumbo Lump Crabmeat. In PA, you will see much higher prices. Their Steamed Gulf Shrimp is the best that money can buy. I would recommend their jumbo shrimp with onions. They have about 4 different sizes but for a few extra dollars it's worth upsizing. read more

Got a dozen and 1/2, plus corn on the cob (steamed with the crabs!) and coleslaw to round out the feast. Crabs are steamed to order so if you cant wait 20 minutes, call ahead. There were many cars that pulled up and got their goods while we were waiting so calling ahead is definitely the known thing to do. Crabs were good flavor wise and for the size, lots of meat. We ate them up! Coleslaw was similar to KFC with a bit more vinegar so good there too. Corn was the bomb! Will definitely hit this place up again. read more

So disappointed in salty dogs! They were one of my favorite places to get crabs and they were literally the ONLY place I would go but recently the past few times I've called to place an order a few days ahead of time and they said they don't take over the phone orders and that we should just call the day of. So we called the day of at 11 when it said they opened, and the answering machine came on saying they won't be open until 12. So we called at 12 exactly and the busy signal just rang and rang. There are times in life, when one does not have time to catch, season, and steam their own delicious crustaceans. Enter stage right, Salty Dog's Crab House. Basically, call them and within about 45 minutes, you can pick up your order to go, hot and awesome. Mediums should about do it (2 dozen for 4 people is more than enough). If you know blue crabs, you'll know what this next statement means: The crabs are heavy, they use Old Bay, and there's very little loss of claws in the bunch. Throw in a little vinegar and you've got yourself a party!!! And, yes, it is cash only.... and, yes, I had to restrain myself so hard from making an STD joke in here. Every year we celebrate mother's day with crabs. This year I called a few times the week prior to see if I could order in advance...no go. The day before I stopped by.... Wouldn't take a preorder and told me to come back when they open at 11am on mother's day. Got there at 10:30 to make sure I was able to get them. They opened the Doors a few minutes to 11,so I went in to order and she asked me if I had preordred because they were out of male crabs! Yes, out of crabs before they opened their doors for business. Salty Dog catered the crabs at a recent crab feast we went to. THEY WERE FANTASTIC!!!! One of the best parts was they steamed them on the premises so the crabs were hot, hot, hot when they slid each & every tray of them on our table. This is the only place I buy crab meat to make my crab cakes. I also love love love their potato salad. I was always the one that could never find a potato salad better than mine so I would struggle through every holiday making potato salad on top of all the other things because I like mine the best. Until I tasted salty dogs potato salad. I would love to have that recipe. So I am ordering 4 lb for Christmas Eve. Their steamed shrimp are always easy to peel. The shell never sticks to the shrimp. I would give a 5-star rating however the lines are usually long, the jumbo lump crab meat has not been there the past two times I've went to get it. They only had the lump and claw. So call ahead if you're wanting jumbo lump for crab cakes. Make sure they have all the stuff that you need before you go there they sell out fast. Buyer beware, anyone thinking to depend on the Hours Open posted by this business needs to take a step back. Showed up minutes before the closing time of 8pm and found the doors locked but the "OPEN" sign glaring away. Looked through the door and saw a pot steaming away but no one answering my banging on the door. If you are in business to make money then be open during the times posted. Had a Huge order for other than steamed crabs and you didn't show up. Found close to $200 worth of frozen seafood elsewhere and we will be shopping there first from now on. Best place for crabs beyond compare. My husband and I get crabs here almost weekly during the season and they are always cooked to perfection. We have lived in a Maryland all our lives and tied many places, but these are the BEST! Most crab houses are a hit or miss. Once we found Salty Dogs, we never go any place else.
