Very cute interior and a ton of "flavors." You can make your own by picking a glaze, topping, base donut etc. They also have pre-selected flavor combinations to select. None of the donuts are filled - they are all topped with either icing or the "filling" itself. For example, the apple caramel donut pictured here is an old fashioned, with vanilla glaze/icing, caramel drizzle and apple pie filling on top in the center. The donuts themselves are fresh, but extremely sweet. I think if you want a "lighter" version, you'd have to select a plain or old fashioned base with a glaze on top, at most. We couldn't find this last year so we made a point if finding it this year. Deliciousness with so many options. And I had pistachio iced coffee too. We chose the lemon cloud( it was filled in the hole only ), Italiano which was gooey yet the right amount of expression and lastly a butter crunch (could have used more butter crunch get on top). The doughnuts of every kid's dream. Captain Baker focuses on sugary creations crafted with the ultimate sweet tooth in mind. As a personal preference, I don't like my doughnuts too sweet. I like interesting flavors without being overwhelmed by the sugar. These doughnuts felt like eating a birthday cake given the amount of sweetness in each bite. Many people like this level of sweetness but it was a little too much for me. Again personal preference here. We got the strawberry lemonade doughnut, smores doughnut, and the skipper breakfast sandwich. Both doughnuts were good, a heavy cake doughnut and generous coating of icing but the sweetness got to me after a few bites. They certainly aren't the fancy doughnuts you'd expect from Blackbird or Union Square in the city but a step up from Dunkin' Breakfast sandwich was standard and delicious. Met expectations of a egg, cheese, Canadian bacon on a bagel which is a good thing. On a busy morning the parking lot is a nightmare because it is tight and you have a lot of cars trying to back out and turn around. They make each individual doughnut to order so there is a little bit of a wait but it wasn't too bad. The inside was really crowded and tight which wasn't great in this time of COVID. I love donuts. I especially love cake based or old-fashioned donuts which are the donuts made here. It's amazing they make their own donuts and customize them / made-to-order, but I found them to be pretty expensive and only OK as far as taste goes. They're definitely very sweet and not bad, but I don't think I can get over that they're priced slightly less than donuts I've seen that are twice their size, such as Kane's or Union Square. I know this is a locally owned business, and I know someone who's friends with the owner, so I feel bad, but I'm also trying to be honest at the same time. The shop itself is super cute and clean - it's perfect for young kids because of the made-to-order donuts where you can see when they're making their order. It also took FOREVER for a breakfast sandwich to be made, so if you're looking for quick, then unfortunately this isn't the place for you either. I will give them props that they do have gluten free/dairy free options as well, so it's not dietary restriction-limiting, which is great since I have friends and family who are dairy free and/or gluten-free. I have only been there once, so maybe I need to give them another shot, but I wasn't very impressed, so we'll have to see the next time I'm in the area. It is after all less than a mile from the place I stay - so there's no harm in trying again, maybe bringing the nieces/nephews though and not during a pandemic. read more

Egg Sammie's were really good, bagels seemed fresh, and lots of good coffee selections to boot. Hot, iced & cold brew! There is a yard with tables, as well as a cute gift shop in the shed out back. This is a pretty cool little shop. The service is good and the people are friendly. The donuts are very lite sort of melt in your mouth and very tasty. The donuts are small in size maybe 4" to 5" and they put the fillings on top instead of filling the centers but the fillings are tasty also. I have access to Kanes donuts which sort of sets the bar for me as they are literally twice the size and their jelly's are the best I have ever had. The donuts are good and it's nice that you can customize, but they ran out of the gluten-free old fashion so my donut selections were all on chocolate which was a disappointment. We get the gimmick. They top your order's doughnuts after you place the order. And you can watch the (seemingly) unthrilled workers do this behind plexiglass. But that takes time especially when it's busy. And one waits in the small space for this to be accomplished. And the doughnuts themselves are the cake variety and the toppings, yes weird and sometimes fun, sometimes slide-off the tops of the doughnuts on the ride home. Had very high hopes for this place but was unfortunately very disappointed. Let's start at why we came in: Adorable building, great reviews. When we walked in: Nice and clean. Donuts laid out to the left of the counter. Behind the glass you see everyone working and decorating. What immediately caught my eye was all the SMUCKERS containers that they use for decorating their donuts. Decided to ignore it and continue.... Got a donut and a breakfast sandwich. The donut was a chocolate cake donut (they only have two types of "base donuts") and it was really gross. No flavor, that oily residue on the top of your mouth yucky disappointment. Like, worse than dunkin'... The breakfast sandwich was very good. All in all - this is a donut decorating place. They don't have good donuts, and then they are dressed up with all sorts of smuckers and sprinkles to wow you on instagram. We just moved to the area and were pumped that this would be a regular spot for the kiddos. If you want really good baked goods head down the street to Three Fins. What a find! My kids really enjoyed making their own donuts picking from donut base of old fashioned or chocolate, selecting from a series of glaze, toppings and drizzle. The donuts are so fresh having come directly from the oil via conveyer to a staff member that was doing a great job keeping up with demand.
