On our last day of visiting our family in Chicago, we wanted some good seafood before catching our flight back home. We decided to purchased food from this location. Upon eating this food Catfish, Shrimps and Crab cakes, we regretted this purchase. The fish and shrimp lacked flavor. And the crab cake had more flour than crab meat. My family was in town and wanted good CatFish. The fact that it is a seafood place made me think that that the fish would be good.... Think again! It was horrible. Here we go...... I have learned that is Chicago when it comes to Food it's divided. The pizza it's deep dish versus tavern style. Al's beef versus Johnny's beef. Portillos versus buano. Shrimp is no different. A lot of shrimp joints but it boils down to Lawrences versus Captain B's/ goose island. I personally prefer Captain B's. The breading is not too heavy the shrimp are always fresh and I love the seasoning and taste in the breading. I can tolerate Lawrences but since they started franchising out so much a lot of the product is frozen and fried on premises and you can taste the difference. My only complaint with Captain B's is there over the years the size of the regular shrimp have gotten smaller. Otherwise I've never had a bad food situation with them. read more

The shrimp are ALWAYS cooked to perfection! As you can see, this jumbo shrimp was larger than my thumb! I ordered their homemade cocktail sauce and skipped the complimentary hot & mild sauces that are offered with your orders. Their cocktail sauce is a nice blend of horseradish and ketchup. If you're familiar with Goose Island Shrimp in Chicago, exact same recipe!!! There's a nice, subtle hint of garlic in the batter. I ate them in the car while taking my one hour and 12 minute drive home in rush hour traffic! I actually had left overs. There was only one person there today. The poor guys was all over the place!! I've been going to this place for years and they have yet to disappoint. The variety of food is pretty good for a shrimp house. It's fried but not too breaded. The portions are good for the size requested. I was a little disappointed in the mushrooms the last time I was there. There were fewer pieces and cooked too long. I would recommend the home made cocktail sauce for the shrimps. It's an extra cost but worth it and you can still have the mild or hot sauce at no additional charge. We ordered the fried scallops, fried shrimp and fried catfish. The breading was good, but a tad thick for my liking. Really crispy though and had a good chew to it. The scallops were tender and sweet. I would totally get the again if I went back. The regular (as opposed to jumbo) shrimp, in my opinion, tasted off. Like they were frozen and then thawed and then sat around for a day before use. They weren't bad, they just weren't that good. My spouse on the other hand thought they were fine. Who knows, maybe they had an off night. The catfish was pretty decent. I wasn't a fan of their sauce that accompanies the fried fish items. It was really watery and kind of tasted like cheap ketsup. The guy behind the counter was really nice and the place was super clean. All in all, I may go back to try it again. Like I said, it wasn't bad, it just wasn't that great. My customer service experience is the main reason for my rating one star for service and another for the food, because they are close to my home I decided to give them a try but that wont ever happen again, mind you I called in my order... the order was read back to me and was still wrong when I went into the so called establishment... The restaurant is so unlite that its like going into a dark alley all the other businesses are closed down.. But I was looked at with an attitude, when I asked for another bag because the associate stuffed all my food in one bag, I got a huff and puff mind you im spending 30+ dollars on fish and shrimp.. I was not comfortable nor did I appreciate the attitude of the so called person at the register, and I wasnt even thanked for my business, not to pull the race card but the tension was thick, and I wont ever go to cicero for shrimp again, now my shrimp were good but the smelt were overcooked and dry and i asked for 2 fries and was told i only ordered one after the order was read back to me as 2 fries over the phone smh I ordered a shrimp salad to replace the fries which was 2 bucks its like a scoop of that coleslaw people put in trays to make up for space very small and I had to buy a whole sleeve of crackers for that lil thing, they should give you crackers for free lol i mean cmon.... In short there are many Shrimp restaurants throughout the city there just alil distance and I decided to try Captain Bs but Captain Bs sucks in my opinion based on customer services alone. I cant spend my $$$$ in a place that wont Thank me for my business........
