The food here was amazing. On a recent work trip to Chicago, we stopped in at La Parra and left excited about the meal. We got to try items that we had not had together before including the goat cheese and tomato sauce with the toasted bread. I personally loved the lamb which was very tender and fell off the bone. The staff were very attentive and friendly. They had a couple large groups that they were able to navigate with ease. They also provided a parting drink for everyone. Our Patas Bravas dish did come out a little late so we were not able to enjoy it as much since we were getting full, but it tasted heavenly with the dipping sauce. I was actually surprised on the vast menu items they offer from Italian pasta to tapas. Pedro was very nice to talk to as he introduced us to the specials of the day. The dinning room was fairly large as we walked in and sat close to the door. Pedro gave us the specials of the day and I ordered the seafood risotto ($32). My friend ordered the Fettuccine Fruitti di Mare ($30). Both dishes was good, with the right balance of protein and noodles. My risotto was a bit too cheesy but it was manageable. Service was very good, they stopped by to check on you and replace the dishes if needed. Overall, the food and service was great. There are plenty of street parking around the restaurant. We went here on a weekday in the early afternoon. There were only 4 tables with people seated at them , including ours. Our service was lousy. Our waiter seemed to concentrate on only 1 of the other tables. I don't know if he knew them or if they were regulars, but he practically ignored us, the whole time. Maybe because we didn't order any drinks we got such lousy service. The lamb shank reso was very tender and the sauce was also very good. This dish was delicious. The guava cheesecake was excellent , and I would recommend that anybody get that, if available. The seafood platter was good, but not great. Some of it was a little overcooked and hard to chew. So pleasantly surprised! Waiting on tire changes next door so decided to check this place out for a drink and snacks and it more than delivered! Bar service was fast and we were checked on by many people to make sure everything was ok (tv on channel we wanted to watch, how drinks were, if we wanted more food and complimentary shots). Highly recommend the tuna carpaccio, beef carpaccio, bread service and the toasted old fashion (prep is cool). Rest of the menu looks great so will check it out next time we're on the area. I came here on the recommendation of a few friends who live in the Berwyn/Cicero area, and this was a welcomed recommendation. The decor is has a sophisticated but super casual flair. I didn't realize it before going, but this is a restaurant that serves small plates which I've come to enjoy because I do like often like a variety of dishes to try and this place did not disappoint. The star of the show, however were the cocktails! I am an old-fashioned drinker, myself, and the cocktails were made perfectly. I ordered the crab cake sandwich with the sauce on the side. The sandwich arrived with the crab cake off center on the bun. The fries were shoestring but they were done perfectly. The crab cake was a little dry and more filling than crab. The ambiance was just okay. Exposed brick walls sanded and sealed concrete floor exposed ceiling utilities. No table cloths. No coasters. The drinks were sweating. Had to get napkins from the bar. Probably should have ordered the pizza. I don't think the sandwich was worth 18. read more

I had a great time at La Parra! It's located in Berwyn and has street parking that I had no trouble finding right in front of the restaurant. They're known for their creative cocktails which they feature on their Instagram page. The staff right away were super friendly and welcoming and our waiter did a nice job of reviewing their current special cocktail menu. I ordered the "mezcalito" I believe he called it, which was made with mezcal, lime juice, and fresh fruit juices (I know one was passion fruit!). This drink was amazing and so up my alley since I loveee mezcal and anything fresh and sweet. The overall atmosphere felt casual and comfortable. Tapas are on the menu so shared meals are encouraged. I ordered the chicken a la limon but I swapped the mashed potatoes for crispy Yukons. The potatoes were pretty good and the chicken was cooked well. I remember when this place first opened up in Berwyn I was very excited to give it a try. Once I tried it, it lived up to its expectations. The staff is friendly, the owners were cool & genuine, and the best part was the food was great quality. I noticed it to be a bit pricey in comparison to Berwyn / suburban prices but in comparison to the City / Chicago prices it's pretty normal. I've have now gone a few times and have ordered something different every time I go I have not been disappointed. Same thing with their cocktails! Their description on Yelp is "Creative Cocktails" - they are not lying. It was an experience when I ordered my Old Fashioned and I was happy about it (haha). They also have a nice outdoor patio. We took a ride out to Berwyn to La Parra Restaurant. I really wish La Parra had lived up to the hype I read about, but, it did not, not completely. We went on a Thursday afternoon and it was not crowded.so there is no excuse for the lack of attention.   Our waiter was rushing us even though it was our first time here.   I was shocked to see the reason he was rushing us, because he was giving more attention to another table.  Perhaps he expected a bigger tip (little did he know that we tip very well with good service. We ordered the Lamb Shank Risotto (with parmesan risotto in a guajillo sauce), which was very good, the meat was very tender, and the sauce was great! Our other entree was the Seafood Platter (shrimp, octopus, scallops, mussels, and calamari in a spicy tomato white wine sauce)  and it was good, not great. We had the special dessert, guava cheese cake that was absolutely delicious! A bald headed man who looked like the manager went up to every table except for ours.   We also were not offered the free shots after our dinner, but, everyone else was.  We were the only ones in the restaurant who were not offered them. There is a slim chance that we might try them again, but, only for some of their tapas. Would I make this a destination again?  I highly doubt it. read more

We were 4 adults and 2 teens. The service was terrific, attentive and fun. We were celebrating an event with two out of town guests, so we ordered apps, drinks, mains and desserts. This is a great place that we needed to try much sooner! When my daughters suggested tapas, a search for something different led me here. We made a reservation (you will need it on a weekend) for an early dinner and were set. We started with two tapas - the fish tacos and abondigas and both were great albeit a bit spicy. Shrimp bisque could have had some chunks of shrimp, but was otherwise good. Kids went with pepperoni flatbreads and we had a filet and a halibut special. The one misstep was the halibut - totally overcooked and dry. But everyone else liked their main. Dessert was a few sorbets and their tiramisu that is prob all the best I have had in ages. Add a few drinks and we were right at $300. Not an everyday kind of meal, but worth it for special occasions. read more

Tapas and pizza at the same place? But it tastes awesome? And a Spanish-speaking staff? And dinner for 2 with drinks was $40 per person?!? Yup, that's La Parra in a nutshell. We were heading into a show, so we needed something about an hour and a half before the performance. As it turns out, La Parra serves tapas within about 5-10 minutes of ordering, so we made our show with plenty of time to spare. The space was about half-full at our 5:30 reservation, and it never got too loud. As for the food... Veal and beef meatballs: deliciously tender, like you would hope veal would be (but as most people who have made meatballs know, you can't just throw two meats together and expect to get flavorful, tender meatballs). The sauce and shaved Parmesan added a little bit of spice and salt, respectively. Maybe I'd get two orders next time. Octopus: The tentacles were served around a small serving of gold potatoes, which were nicely flavored, but the octopus both tasted fresh and wonderfully marinated. Easily the best octopus-based dish I've ever had. Ordering tapas means you get room for dessert, so I got a torta de Chocolate, and my wife the coconut panacotta. The torta was great; the cake a bit on the heavy side but appropriately contrasted against the feathery-light mousse, leaving space for the sour raspberry sauce. And my wife's panacotta was solidly coconut-flavored, but having the texture of a tender, moist sponge. This was a great night in Berwyn. I'm looking forward to coming back. read more

This is such a great gem in Berwyn. I was able to visit recently and I was impressed with the food and hospitality of the staff. I assume that the staff are the owners. They were very attentive and checked on our small party frequently. I love Tapas and sharing small plates. La Parra has some great tapas. We had some papas bravas, chile relleno, queso de cabra and anothe appetizer . Everything was delicious. The drinks were great! Fried Calamari - wonderful (but I do wish they were fried just a TAD longer Patatas Bravas - Seasoned so well with a slight crisp on the outside. They gave you some bread with a hummus type sauce initially, so I dipped the potatoes in that sauce and 10/10 would recommend doing that! For dinner I had the NY Velasco and the steak was cooked soo perfectly! Well seasoned and the potatoes that came with it were so flavorful. For dessert we had the special that was recommended: vanilla cheesecake and a pumpkin flavored ice cream. The ice cream was 10/10 - like a lightly flavored pumpkin but not overwhelmingly pumpkiny - if that makes sense lol Cheesecake tasted a little heavy but it was good. I had two drinks: Frida - I got it just for the rose lol and it was just beautiful! Not too sweet either like most mixed drinks, which is def a plus. La Parra is one of my favorite restaurants in my local area. It brings together Latin and Italian in a perfect twist. The drinks are phenomenal, Some of my top favorites are the octopus, it's an explosion of flavor. The lamb chops are great, my only complaint is there were well done and I asked for medium. And the scallops are also delicious. The food is amazing, I have not had one bad dish here. The service is on point, it's a perfect date or birthday dinner. I flew to Chicago for the weekend and I saw this restaurant on TikTok. Sometimes you see things on social media and they just don't live up to the hype, but this place absolutely did! We had a reservation for 9pm and we were seated as soon as we walked in. It's a Friday night so I expected it to be packed - it was, and we still were seated. I love that! They automatically serve you sliced bread with an olive/garlic hummus with Parmesan on top - magnifique! I'm a girly girl so I'm into the cute drinks and I ordered the Frida which is the hibiscus rose drink with rum and mint. It was tasty but more visually appealing than anything. We ordered calamari as our appetizer which was slightly crispy but kind of airy - 10/10! So fresh! Our waiter was Octavio and I absolutely adored him. He let us know what the specials were for the day and I took advantage of the seafood linguine with Diablo sauce - yallllll - shmackinnnn!!! The scallops cut like butter, the shrimp was cooked to perfection, the calamari wasn't too chewy and the sauce was spicy and flavorful! My husband got the New York Velazcoe which was sliced already with a gravy and wedged potatoes- I didn't taste his but he said he was impressed. For dessert they offered him something that wasn't on the menu - an apple, strawberry pie with vanilla ice cream and I ordered the coconut flan. Now let me say this - I do NOT like traditional flan. But I love all things coconut and I figured it was worth a try... it was so light, I could compare it to whipped cream - it wasn't as thick as a standard flan. It also had some raspberry drizzle on the plate which gave the flavor some Razzle Dazzle! Verrrrry good! I'm not a pie person but husband said he would give it an 8.5/10. Would I return? We were the first ones to arrive, so the place was completely empty yet we still had to wait longer for our food to arrive. I'm assuming it was because the one waiter working "Pepe" told the cook that the wedding party was arriving. As the party proceeded to enter, they took care of them while we waited to put in our order. I ordered the pear salad which is my go to meal and I pared it with a side of salmon. As soon as he put my plate down the stench of the salmon hit me. Needless to say I returned the salmon and had to move my salad to a different plate since the plate smelled like the salmon. The waiter told me he put another salmon in for me which I replied and said no, since it's probably from the same batch as the other fish so, I ordered a side of chicken instead. My partner ordered the tacos Aztecas which were asada tacos. On FLOUR tortilla. They looked as horrible as they tasted. The tacos came in an order of 3, my partner tried eating one and returned the other two. The waiter didn't ask why we were returning them, which one would think to ask since that's more than half of the meal being returned. I did order a kids buttered pasta and my grand daughter enjoyed it. Overall service was lacking and the quality of food was not great. read more

Unfortunately, people that were already seated were not in any hurry to leave, so we were unable to sit until about 45 minutes later when I asked for an update. About 45 minutes into our meal, we were then asked to move to another table.
