TERRIBLE service and staff! This place has gone downhill. First, they now charge for a shared parking lot with the restaurant next door, even though parking was previously free. Second, the restaurant is extremely overpriced for the experience you receive. The biggest issue, however, was the payment. We showed both the manager and our server proof that our payment had been successfully processed, but they still charged us a second time for the exact same bill. As a result, we ended up paying $1,000. Despite providing proof that the first transaction had gone through, the duplicate charge was still processed. To top it off, the restaurant was nearly empty on a weekend. It used to be packed, which says a lot about how much things have changed. Between the unexpected parking fee, the overpriced food, and being charged twice despite showing proof of payment, this was an incredibly frustrating experience. I visited El Nuevo Vallarta tonight with a couple of friends, and unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks along with a sushi roll called El Solecito. Shortly after, we asked the bartender to place our entrée orders -- one pasta, one shrimp empanadas, and I ordered arroz con mariscos estilo diablito. There was a bit of confusion when the bartender couldn't find my dish in her system, so I showed her the photo from the menu to confirm. When the food began to arrive, the sushi came out along with the pasta and my rice dish. My friend and I tried a piece of the sushi and quickly realized it was the wrong roll. We informed the bartender, who called the manager. That's where things went downhill. The manager came over and, rather than offering help, immediately hit us with, "If you knew the sushi was wrong, why did you take a bite?" I was honestly stunned by the tone and attitude. I explained it was our first time at the restaurant and that we wouldn't have known it was the wrong roll without trying it. Still, the manager continued to be rude and dismissive. I told her plainly that I wouldn't be paying for something I didn't order, especially if she wasn't going to help us fix the situation -- she walked away with visible attitude. The rest of the meal didn't improve. The pasta and my rice dish were so spicy they were nearly inedible -- and I enjoy heat, so that's saying something. Meanwhile, my other friend never even received her empanadas. After waiting over 20 minutes, we had to ask the bartender to cancel them altogether. To top it off, the music was obnoxiously loud -- not in a fun, upbeat way, but in a way that made conversation difficult and the atmosphere uncomfortable. As someone who works in the hospitality industry, I was shocked by the poor customer service and lack of professionalism from management. I visited 4 times when I first moved here. Was so excited as I love my seafood and fish. My favorite thing when I'm down in Jalisco. Well food was "ok". Nothing to beef about. I felt it a bit pricey, but again, I'm happy to pay for good food. What got me was the volume of the space. I love Mariachi music, but this is not the venue for it. It's an older concrete building and the sound echoes. I couldn't even have a conversation with the person next to me at the bar let alone hear the bartender. Came here with a few others because it was close and it seemed like a party was going on outside so loud we could hear it. El Nuevo Vallarta seems to have mostly seafood on its menu. It still has a few vegetarian items though. Beverages include margaritas of course. The food mostly wasn't for us except the guacamole but this was worth coming in to get some. Bring earplugs. It gets fucking loud in here. They have a mariachi band or whatever playing and singing full blast and it makes ears hurt so forget about having conversation because you can't hear shit. It was the only complaint from us besides the lack of vegetarian food. This is mostly a seafood restaurant with stuff like fish and shrimp. About the only thing we could have was guacamole. The margaritas are pretty authentic tasting. It's $11.99 for the regular. This is made with house tequila. As for the food we got a Guacamole Side. It's $4.99 and it comes decorated with some tortillas. This is also more authentic than typical. It's chunky. This has a mild spice of cilantro and lime. We went there for dinner. As soon as we were seated a photographer offered to take our picture for $30, we politely declined. Within a few minutes a man offered to draw a sketch of my daughter for $35. We agreed based on the quality of his samples, needless to say I'm pretty sure the samples weren't drawn by him - we took it all in stride and laughed it off. The band also came asking to play a song for us, more $$ . The drinks: The Paloma - the lime soda was actually warm paired with the other ingredients I ended up with a luke warm paloma - disgusting. The margarita - very little liquor and super sweet. The cantarito - had apples in it... apples! It's supposed to be all citrus in a cantarito. It was very sweet too as if they added sugar maybe they messed up their simple syrup I can't see why everything was so sweet. Not good at all. The food: I really liked the caldo de 7 mares it was sooooo good. My husband had a large chapuzon del mar and he didn't care for it, it's supposed to have a mix of seafood and it only had shrimp and octopus. The camarones al mojo de ajo were good. I've been to El Nuevo Vallarta many times now, however, I've never been here on a Monday! My go to dish is the Langostinos! (Craw fish) they are served with white rice, garlic bread and a side salad. The taste is spicy and garlicky! Their drinks are pricy but delicious! I've had the original margarita, mangonada margarita, mojitos , gin and tonic, buckets of beer, shots of Añejo, mezcal, and a few other tequilas. The crowd is always big, there's always music and live music. It can get a little too loud though. On a Monday our waitress was terrible. She forgot about us for some time! We had to go find her! Then I asked another waitress for assistance and she was incredibly rude! She said "have a seat and wait for you waitress" in Spanish. OK, I'm between a three and four here. I would say, overall, the experience is good - food and drinks are great and servers are always friendly. Big plus that they have the outdoor patio, which I relish when the weather is nice. My only issue is the *slow* service. Sometimes, it takes them a while to get out there and talk to you. Drinks take maybe 10-15 minutes. Then the food is another 30 minutes or so. If you are not in a hurry and are just hanging out, enjoying the weather (which has been so crazy lately in Chicago) and talking to a bunch of friends, it's great. El Nuevo León is a very nice Fish food Mexican restaurant but lacks experience to serve and tend the tables we never got a water so good luck with that spicy sauce and no servers around to get you water, I do not understand why Mexican restaurants serve tortilla chips and very hot sauce and leave you to the mercy of choking with NO WATER on the tables. I always say if you do not like your job do not work as a server. The issue here is that at the end they want a good tip. The food was ok but I did ask if the sea food was authentic in the vuelve a la vida cocktail and she said yes. When my mom was eating her cocktail huge pieces of FAKE crab was in her cocktail what a disappointment. My dish was the MOL AJETE with stake, chicken and a tiny piece of chorizo and a fresh nopal. The chicken was so dry I could not eat it and the steak was so tuff was not able to chew it. My son had the huachinango it was ok the best thing in this restaurant was the stuff churros but they should warn you EXTREMELY HOT and watch the kids. We dined in as a group yesterday 11/18/20 Unfortunately I have to give the place 2stars solely based on the temperature inside the tent. It was very windy and they did have space heaters inside a semi set up tent but it simply wasn't enough. We were all freezing and certainly didn't expect that to be part of our experience. For the price you're paying listen it better be comfortable enough to be able to eat. We came out of there frozen like popsicles. The service was outstanding and the food was the norm. I pass by this place frequently and wanted to try the food. The food on their website looks delicious,but looks can be deceiving. This place is very over priced, for food you can get at sams club.I ordered the salmon italia. It is salmon in a garlic parmesan sauce with a side of vegetable medley and asparagus, and a texas toast. Earlier this morning I was just at Sam's club and literally saw everything identical to what was on the plate. But hey, I though to just go with it since we are out for our wedding anniversary dinner. I was wrong, the asparagus was tough and rubbery. The vegetable medley I can tell it was still frozen because the inside of the cauliflower was freezing while the other veggies were hot. The atmosphere was okay, just like every other Mexican restaurant with musicians playing live music but at a price. We sat in the outdoor patio, when the waitor brought out our sushi, we started to eat but then this women came as asked for a dollar. We politely said we dont carry cash. She then starts to cough right infront our table. Someone that seemed to be from the restaurant comes running out with a dollar in hand and gives it to her. So i assume it happenes all the time. With Covid and her coughing all over our table, it Made us not want to finish the rest of our meal. Horrible experience!! I stopped by for my girlfriends birthday with my 4 year old daughter. Drove over 1 hour in a snow storm to eat here. Went inside and told us it was a 40 min wait and put us on a waiting list. There was already a line so we waited and everyone we waited with already went in but us which was fine. Now we're waiting with a new group of people and about 8+ more new families went inside before us. We were waiting for over one hour and I seen families wait 20 minutes and they would get hand picked to go inside before us. This system is not first come first serve. The coctel was nothing special, kind of bland If you ask me and trust me I do not have the most exquisite taste buds. Its nice that most mexican sea food restaurants offer free chips, salsa and ceviche. The ceviche is really fresh and good surprisingly. I know that many people are often picky when it comes to the "fishy" taste but this one had just a right amount of lime juice, spice and salt. The drinks were meh, nothing special. It kind of still boggles my mind that micheladas come with shrimp around the rim. A little weird if you ask me. Who ever said that looked appetizing must have been on something lol. Anyways, a good place to try, nothing special and a bit on the expensive side. Our tab was $200 and no food, just some drinks for an hour. Also: weird that they added the tip for a party of four.
