Captain D's restaurant has some good fried fish and hushpuppies. I have been to this location a few times and the service has been good. The restaurant is nice and clean on the inside. I ordered the 2 pieces fish special with fries and hushpuppies. This meal was a special posted on the window. The fish was cooked perfectly with added crunchies. I love the cruchies the best even though they are bad for me. I call the extra fried batter they put under the fish cruchies. I was lucky on my visit at lunchtime and had fresh hot fish. I think they have some of the best hushpuppies. Fish is supposed to be good for you but being fried with all the batter it probably is not. It's Captain M here. I'm letting you know I was in the area. I noticed Captain D had some good promotions ,especially 99 cent drinks from 2-5! So, I went there to check it out. I made some discoveries. I will tell you about them. All aboard! Parking lot was clean and spacious, lots of parking spots along the side. Manager was ready to help w my order. It was an all female crew. Two employees were on break in the dinning room. The manager was sweeping an already clean restaurant. However, when I looked at the dust pan there's was a lot of mess. So glad she was sweeping. The lady crew seemed to all get along because they were chatty. I ordered a corn on the Cob. It was like 4.00? It was ok. Not the best corn I've had. Mountain Dew was ice cold and sweet. Captain D's offers snack combos, senior discounts and a variety of menu items. I will definitely be back to try a meal. Can't wait to bring my shipmates here! This was my first time to Captain D's and was pleasantly surprised. I'm not a fish guy but I do like shrimp. I got the 15 piece shrimp meal. With that many shrimp, I was expecting pretty much popcorn size but was shocked when they were good sized butterfly. The food was good and the only complaint I had was that 15 is WAY too many for an individual portion. Cut the shrimp in half and drop the price a couple of bucks. But for $9.99 for 15 shrimp and 2 sides I guess it's not bad although I'm a piggy and ate it all. read more

Drive-thru clean and decent service. I ordered the spicy deluxe seafood platter and fried pickles. The fried pickles had a crazy amount of salt. The platter was ok for the price. It's been years since I've been to Captain D's, and I can't see myself returning anytime soon. read more

Even though I was pretty much the first one in today I felt like I was served day old reheated fries. They were cold and stale and flavorless. The fish fillet and stuffed crab shell were pretty good though. The fried shrimp were mediocre at best and on the small side. read more

We drive by this Captain D's several times a week going to Luby's Cafeteria. Sunday at lunchtime Luby's was packed so we decided to give this Captain D's. We were impressed at how clean the restaurant was. The food arrived quickly and was fresh and hot. When I went to the men's room to wash my hands, I was absolutely delighted to see the cleanest public restroom I have seen in years. When I landed on this page for writing my review, I snickered when I saw that someone had already posted a photo of the men's restroom. If you go here to eat, be prepared to be impressed. My only criticism is that the ice dispenser does not work. It is a minor inconvenience but a mark on an otherwise perfect dining spot. I must mention the employees. Staff were clean, courteous and efficient. Great job everyone. Read my other reviews and you will realize I am not easily impressed. read more

So I've been coming to Captain D's for years. Today 4/13/2022 I'm very disappointed due to the codfish I received it's not cod. It's some type of fish they are selling. It may be a downgrade from cod, but it's not the Captain D's fish I'm used to. It tastes like a particle chicken mixed with fish. That's the best I can explain. Don't get me wrong I understand the restaurant i hurting, but I don't understand when they downgrade on products then up the price. read more

Please don't even think of coming here. The place is dirty ,nasty,gross. Super dirty floors, sticky, poor service. The guy or girl at the front taking orders was not all there. I saw a old man that did not look mentally stable going to the bathroom holding his privates hurrying got the bathroom. When he came back out he went straight to the kitchen and putting his apron on. He did NOT wash his hands. We are just hoping we don't get sick for eating in that place. Me and my 4 kids were extremely uncomfortable here. Only old people eating here. Ok, in the fast food category, this location is a winner worth five stars! Hubby and I stopped by on a Thursday night around 915pm and there were about six cars in the drive-thru, so we decided to go inside and order. About four people ahead of us, but the line moved quickly and smoothly. Their parking lot is pretty small and sometimes it's tough to get out due to traffic, but that has nothing to do with the restaurant review per se. Another big plus is that they are open until 10p. We placed our to-go order with William, who was friendly, professional and speedy. He warned us of the slight up charge ($0.30) for several premium side dishes we ordered, which was very nice. We ordered a myriad of fish/seafood/sides/dessert and it all came out piping hot. The four piece fish dinner I ordered (to share with our cats) was a mild white fish, perfectly coated in batter and fried crispy. The cole slaw was cold and tasty and the corn on the cob was so sweet! Green beans with ham hit the spot and the hush puppies were hot and not greasy at all. We opted for funnel cake sticks as dessert and they were amazingly good! I can't remember all that hubby got, but he seriously at every morsel on his plate! His macaroni and cheese was creamy, cheesy and not gloppy, unlike most mass-prepared mac and cheese is. It only took about 10-15 minutes max for our order to be filled and William opened up each container, recapped the contents and hooked us up with plenty of tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. The quality at this location is unbelievable. I would rather come eat fish & chips here than almost anywhere else in DFW. Really. The food is always piping hot and the grease is perpetually clean. I don't know how they do it, but I hope they keep it up. Only 4 stars because, well it's a Captain D's. But if they took the kitchen and put it in a sit-down, groovy location it would be the best seafood restaurant in DFW, hands-down. read more

I love Captain D's!! Now I can say that in the past I used to always "judge a book by its cover" and I hate that I did that with this place! Once I finally decided to try it out, I fell in love. This place is so reasonably priced and so good! Now sometimes it takes longer than I would want to wait, but we are talking about fish here! Make sure its cooked all the way, I can wait I promise. They always have specials and their rolls are delicious. A very nice staff, but nothing tasted particularly fresh.. the fried fish had a nice golden-brown batter, but the fish itself isn't too good - rather flavorless. I had fried green tomatoes with an overwhelmingly "tired" frozen taste. There are a ton of other fast food chains in the area, and I can't imagine this is head & shoulders above any of them. Been in Forest Hill for years. Just a short walk from my granny's house. Didn't have a Long John Silver's nearby, so this was the best alternative. A great selection at a low price.
