The staff was friendly, approachable, and attentive, checking on us often and bringing dishes out as they were ready. Before serving, they even brought out the crabs so we could see the size. We ordered the large crabs, though there wasn't a very noticeable difference in size. The seasoning stays mostly on the shell, so it adds flavor without overpowering the sweet crab meat. Visiting during the summer months definitely paid off because the crabs were fresh, plump, and tender. They also offer a variety of condiments, including garlic butter and vinegar. The coleslaw was just okay and not particularly memorable, and the wings were average. We also ordered the boiled corn, which was much smaller than the sweet corn we're used to. It wasn't very sweet and appeared to be a different variety, but it had a nice crisp bite and satisfying pop. The ambiance is one of the highlights. Sitting by the water with picnic-style communal tables creates the perfect setting for a classic, messy crab feast. Be sure to grab a drink too because the happy hour prices are hard to beat. I brought my wife & mother-in-law for all u can eat crabs and I'm very disappointed. First of all, the service staff is great, no problems there. However, the crabs are terrible. The smediums are over cooked and the smell of the crabs are terrible. For all of the Maryland crab eaters, you know when you have a bad crab without even cracking the shell. I would say out of 4 dz crabs, more than 50% of them were bad. Anyways, the corn, crab soup and the hush puppies were great. Steamed Crabs XL-size were $140 a dozen--a bit pricey but the crabs were delicious and full of meat! Corn on the cob was sweet and the French Fries were okay. We got two dozen of the XL crabs and it was TOO much for 3 ppl. But we enjoyed it so much that we brought our family here again the next day!! Solid crab house, right in the city. I like to go here because I can walk, and they do an unlimited deal. My friends have told me that you can actually sometimes get a Groupon, which is kind of crazy. The food is inconsistent here depending on how busy it is or how early late in the season you are. That said when I went with my sister in June we had the most lovely cream of crab and Maryland soup. They make you to buy bottles of water with their unlimited deal, but that's the only negative part here. you sit on the water. It's a vibe. The service is always so solid and like I said the food can be inconsistent, but that just depends on when you go. One of my top spots to bring guest because it's right in the city and it is a beautiful location. I come here pretty often in the summer for the all you can eat crabs w/ corn and soup for $48. My advice is to get there early for the best seating. This is literally a hit or miss but not in a bad way. Sometimes you will luck up on a GREAT batch and sometimes you'll get small crabs but they're all good in taste. Enjoyed all you can eat crabs at Captain James on the deck of their crab shack. Service was a little slow (it usually is) but thats because they are always packed. Sitting on the water and eating crabs is the perfect summer day. The views are beautiful. If I could give less stars, I would. I ordered this for delivery on Toast Tab (a third party source). I had a 280$ order, and once it got delivered I found the cream crab soup was missing. I called to see if I could get this soup delivered or refunded. I gave them the order number (#85) and the employee and manager could not find the order number. They said they could see 83, 84, and 86 but not 85. I got on the phone with the manager to see which way I could get this rectified the simplest way and they kept meeting me with obstacles and blaming me for them forgetting the item. This was completely unsatisfactory and I do not recommend ordering delivery or even eating with them until they fix their staff attitude and delivery systems. read more

The Captain James crab deck is a must-have experience. It is right on the water and the view is gorgeous. It is also set up like an old school crab shack - weathered picnic tables, plastic utensils, and an outdoor sink. The $48 all you can eat crab special is an extremely good bargain and the crabs themselves were a good size and were brought out promptly and still hot from the steamer. The only negative I could find is that they don't use real butter. Our table got a large bottle of squeezable Parkay, while the table next to us got a spray bottle of I Can't Believe It's Not Butter. OK, this is 3 1/2 stars rounded up. We came with a party of 10 and we're seated right away although they looked at us like we were crazy. We sat in one big picnic table in the back and had no idea what we were doing. The view from our table was gorgeous and five stars! Thankfully, we were there with someone who is an expert and we ordered whatever remaining extra large crabs they had which ended up being only four!! So early on a Saturday night, we were surprised at the lack of available crabs. It is definitely a messy experience. If you go where old clothes and expect to get really dirty. Between the ten of us, we went through 3 1/2 pounds of crab, two hush puppies, sweet potato fries and a chicken tenders. The actual experience of digging into the crab was a once in a lifetime activity. It was so much fun! Quite honestly, I would not have had as much fun if my friend didn't know what she was doing. My one feedback for this restaurant is the wait staff should explain the process to the table. So three stars for the staff. And prepare for Saturday dinner rush with more available crabs. Location is good however a little challenging for accessibility as I was in an electric scooter and getting into the restaurant was a little difficult. Our waitress was really good(hate I forgot her name) but she gave great recommendations and the drinks were on point. For the prices that were advertised, the crabs were worth it and it's still early in the season. Our only vice was the delayed of bringing more to the table. So we just moved to the Canton neighborhood in Baltimore... And we've been exploring new restaurants every week and tonight we landed at Captain James. What an amazing experience. First off the location is privileged and they have an actual waterfront area and also regular restaurant shaped like a boat with plenty of seating.
