Visiting this area for the first time and noticed this parking lot always full and busy. Went there for dinner this afternoon, whole experience was great! Wife and I got here last Saturday evening around 7:30pm. Unfortunately 1 hour wait time sent us down the street. We ate lunch here last summer after cruising the eastern half length of the lake. We had 20 minutes wait for table, but servers were attentive, and all five of our different meals were excellent. Salad fixings were crisp and fresh. Their Cajun entree selections are plentiful, and large, and, burgers, sides are huge. Come hungry. read more

My sister and cousins ate at Captain John's when we were in Eufaula for a reunion. It was definitely a highlight of our trip. They served both good food and fun. The restaurant is on a marina. The walls are lined with windows so no matter where you sit, you have a good view of the water. It's nicely decorated with lake decor including a cute sign that says, "Go jump in the lake" with an arrow pointing to the lake. We started with cocktails. Three of us got martinis and two got wine. They gave good pours. The martinis were filled to the brim and extra chilled. I got pan seared red fish with heavy cream, a loaded baked potato, and broccoli. My cousin got the same thing except she got her fish blackened with etouffee sauce. She raved about it as did the cousin who got crawfish etouffee with corn bread. Others got fried butterfly shrimp and one got catfish. Everyone loved their food. The red fish was rather small but it was good and coupled with a large loaded baked potato and generous serving of broccoli, it was ample. Those who got slaw or beans and rice said the same thing. Our server was excellent. She not only got our orders to us quickly, but she also took pictures for us and laughed at our jokes. We didn't know how we were going to get my sister down the steep ramp in her wheelchair. They had a handicap ramp but the rain had it blocked. My cousin asked if someone in the kitchen could help. A man came out and very cheerfully got my sister safely to flat land. Captain John's not only gave us good food but a happy memory. read more

This is a real win for a nice dinner spot in Eufaula. I couldn't get over how insanely affordable it was for seafood! Really great prices. Our waitress was fantastic. It's got cute beachy vibes right on the lake. And they're smart for raising it way up because it gets close to flooding every year. They had temporary walkways due to flooding this time. My fish was not good. The sauce on it was delicious, but the fish was overcooked and tasted like it was in the bottom of a deep freezer for a long time. And red beans and rice are just that. No seasoning whatsoever. Not Cajun at all. But the shrimp boil was very well seasoned and tasty. The hush puppies were delicious. Good French fries. My table mates had steaks and they said they were delicious. So they definitely have good food, just some misses too. The rolls are incredible! Texas Roadhouse style and delicious. Checked in at 7:15 for a party of six, waited 45 minutes for a table. It was a very busy night. We had great server who worked quickly and got our drinks and order in quickly, within 10 minutes of sitting down. Kitchen was backed up but we finally left with getting our food at 9pm. Our server checked with management several times. We checked a couple of times. We watched several parties be seated, served, cashed out and leave. Very disappointed in the experience. read more

Our return trip to Captain John's this year was just as great as we remembered from last year. Of course, we ordered what we ate last time and it was every bit as good as before. I did get my own cornbread since my husband was not sharing this year. The outdoor dining was so pleasant looking at the lake. Staff (Madi) was friendly and efficient. If you're wanting great food and lake deck dining.. Captain John's on the lake is your place, but get your own order of cornbread, no one wants to share after they take a bite! read more

Busy place! Waitlisted all weekend long. Variety of menu selections and great bar service. Wait staff truly seemed to care about our experience and met all our expectations. The dinner rolls remind us of our grade school cafeteria rolls!! Served fresh from the over with plenty of butter. I enjoyed the CJ Blood Mary along with the butterflied shrimp dinner, a salad and baked potato. My guy had the pork chop with a baked potato and the jalapeno corn bread. Portions are sized so as not to leave you too full unless you enjoyed a couple of those dinner rolls and in that case the leftovers will be good the next day. read more

Captain Johns was conveniently located across from our condo on a recent trip to Lake Eufaula, so we had to check it out. It is a large restaurant with a great atmosphere, a favorite among locals and visitors alike. There is some outdoor seating over the lake, but there are great views inside as well. Every staff member was super friendly from the hostess to the manager. The food was seasoned with a Cajun flair. We enjoyed our dinners. I had the blackened catfish, and my husband and daughter split the seafood platter, which had fried catfish, a crab cake, etouffee, and fried shrimp. This platter was plenty for two people to share. I should also mention the complimentary rolls that are served prior to the meal. We ate more than our fair share! read more

We were a group of 7 so rather then a 40 min wait we ate at the bar & Journey took great care of us.. delish spicy Bloody Mary followed by the fish bisque w/spicy sweet cornbread. Ridiculously good. Their Étouffée is better than what I ate in New Orleans. In Louisiana, I ate at the restaurant "Monty's on the Square," which is across the street from the famous beignet place "Café du Monde." The Étouffée made by Monty's was very, VERY fishy, like it was made from old, spoiling crawdads, and the portion was nothing like Captain John's portion size. It was barely enough to be called an appetizer, and much more expensive. Also, they didn't provide any cornbread or rice. They didn't even have cornbread. I was appalled, lol! Captain John's has the BEST Étouffée. It's fresh, and there is no fishy flavor to the crayfish in it. It comes in a very nice portion with the option to order huge slices of sweet cornbread that have peppers and spice as well, and there is plenty of rice for the sauce. I'm always full when I eat theirs. It's spicy (and I'm not huge on spicy), but it's so utterly delicious that it's almost always what I order. Also, the pork chops are huge, and they (as well as the steaks) are cooked to PERFECTION every single time. If I had one hundredth the skill of the chef and cooks there, I'd already be in my own personal heaven, lol. We sat at the bar on a Saturday to watch college football. Manager turned one of the tv's to the Big 10 network for us despite being in SEC country. Listen, the food is great here but they HAVE to do something about their seating ... you have your choice of booths or tables with narrow chairs. Neither are great options for my parent who is handicapped. A simple change of chairs would improve the experience greatly... That being said, the "zydeco" is a family favorite, the red beans & rice is almost as good as mine and the hush puppies are fun. We were surprised to find this gem! The boys loved their meal and my steak was cooked to perfection. We went around Christmas time and they had outdoor seating with clear igloos it was so cute! We were excited about doing karaoke,as we enjoy singing so we're on the patio outside,not too many people at the tables maybe 12 all together,server come out and hands us menus and asked if we would like to order something, husband said no. Server goes back inside,never asked later if we needed anything,there were about 3 servers,I've been a server for about 40 years and if I thought a customer wasn't ready to order anything,I would at least as if they would like a drink. Even though we weren't hungry she never even offed any drinks,about 20 minutes later I go inside and get a drink. Also why do servers who serve food have their hair hanging down,that I believe is a health code violation.
