I had a taste for catfish (I couldn't get it from the place I wanted) so I tried this place. I didn't feel welcomed and it wasn't a place where you want to sit a while. It was quaint and seating was close. There was enough seating and parking (just enough). I looled over the dessert case and decided it had been sitting waaay too long - so no dessert! Ordered catfish - paid $1 more than "the original" - which is the same exact thing but customizable sides. The original has no subsititions. BUT both are 3 catfish, 3 sides. Portions were sizable but everything was bland. The catfish was fried nicely but absolutely no seasoning. My hushpuppy was overcooked on one side, undercooked on the sides - HOW??? I tried it but it was mostly inedible and bland - no taste. The okra was a flour base and not fried crispy. At the entrance, there is a sign that says there is an additional charge on checks. I used a card and was charged a service fee. The people dining in were served their food on paper plates - my total was $12 bucks and no drink (no extras). Really didn't seem worth it IMHO read more

However, that well-meaning individual modifies the dish with their "creative" spin, using some bizarre seasoning or ingredient. It tastes weird and you are stuck with a big dallop of it on your paper plate, because you wanted to be polite. Now you are looking for that pesky Labrador Retriever, that will eat anything. Or hope that you can get the plate folded up and stuffed in the garbage can before that person notices your dislike of their creative effort. You got the picture. The coleslaw served at the Lazy Fisherman is that very side dish, I just described. Strangest tasting damn slaw, I have ever had. I was unable to figure out what in the heck the secret ingredient was that they used to bring out that amazingly weird taste. No. I didn't like it. The rest of the meal.... We just love this spot, it has never disappointed. They have a friendly staff and the sweet tea is always just right. My go to is almost always the fisherman plate, gets you a few strips of some of the freshest catfish, some shrimp, hush puppies and your choice of 3 sides, it will definitely fill you up. The batter is really good and for a nice crust and bite for the catfish, really good if you want to pour some hot sauce and not have it soak right in. The shrimp is petty good as well has a nice little crunch without drying it out or just right. All of the sides are pretty good but the stand outs for me is the coleslaw and that green tomato chutney is just the right balance of tart and sweet. read more

My husband and I discovered the Lazy Fisherman by looking up fried catfish places near me. We have only been in Bixby about a year so we don't know all the spots yet. I rarely drive by where the location is and I haven't had it suggested to me. It is a seat yourself vibe with simple fishing decor and an old cozy home feel. They had a decent amount of people and tables turning over while we were there. Service was okay. Our drinks stayed empty a couple of times (tea 1/2 & 1/2) and we placed the order for drinks and an apps that all delivered in a decent time. It felt like a longer wait than I wanted to order our meal. I asked if the fries were good and she hesitated and said yeah. Wasn't super convincing but when you get 3 sides per meal and we ordered 2 meals you have a lot of sides you have to pick. I ordered the fried catfish, fried okra, green beans and mash potatoes with gravy. My husband ordered the hamburger steak with cheese and jalapeño with fries, coleslaw and fry bread. We had hush puppies for the app. I took pictures of the menu but forgot to of the food Okra was good and crispy like I prefer, catfish pieces were a smaller size but still plenty of food & it was good but it didn't cure my craving, green beans with onions lacked flavor and that's my fav veggie and finally the mashed potatoes and gravy were good. Hushpuppies were not cooked in my preferred style of batter and I didn't care for all the fried batter around them. She didn't bring the food out and they forgot the fries but quickly came out with a basket. Everything was hot and fresh! The husband enjoyed his hamburger steak that was served with 2 sides of toast was pretty good,coleslaw was a little watery and neither of us wanted to try the fry bread, fries were okay. This place is worth the drive if you want good fried fish, shrimp, or a burger. I know a lot of folks won't drive this far south, but unless you go to Houligans in town, this is the only other place I'd get friend shrimp or fried fish and expect it to be good without being $20+ a plate. It's a dive here, for sure. Nothing at all fancy. They do have a drive thru window. We have utilized that before. It's slow, but you can also use it if you phone in an order and that's quicker. Pros: Price Point, Efficient turnaround. Cons: Lackluster flavor. Dude, I'm lazy. The inherent value of being more focused on identifying opportunities for efficiency versus grinding has benefitted my career trajectory and increased operational excellence and ROI for those companies. The Lazy Fisherman has also embraced this philosophy,with mixed results. Prices on the menu were a flashback to 2003 - the original Dinner was $9.99, consisting of three catfish strips of varying size and girth, slaw, fries, beans and hush puppies. While stripping the diner of choice, this virtually ensures zero order mistakes, and more predictable cook and prep. As I don't necessarily dig beans, I coughed up the extra buck to choose my own sides on the three piece catfish dinner, going with a side salad, onion rings and slaw. My selection would have been wrong either way. The salad arrived alarmingly quick, consisting of shredded iceberg lettuce, four tiny tomato chunks, what I believe to have been a couple of sprigs of shredded cheese, and a modicum of ranch topping the contents served in a micro-sized paper tray typically reserved for fries. Efficient as hell. The rest of the meal also arrived quickly. The onion rings were under the pile of catfish, and strikingly similar to those canned morsels covering your mom's green bean casserole on Turkey Day. I suppose by definition they were onion rings, but not what I (or anyone else I suspect) was craving. Slaw is different everywhere you go. As such, you would think I'd of learned my lesson and asked questions before ordering, but being lazy I did not, and was treated (?) to an almost inedible scoop of sugary, wet cabbage. I dumped enough salt/pepper to get through it. Well, most of it. The catfish? The fish was quality and well-cooked, but the batter completely lacked any flavor (you uh, kind of need to add some herbs and spices to a batter for a type of fish that doesn't retain flavor very well). My wife went for the No Subs option, and I sampled her beans and fries in hopes I just chose my sides poorly and should have gone with the 'Famous' recommended option. Nope. Beans met with a flavorless, watery grave. The fries? Something fishy was going on there, as they had a similar taste to the fish batter. Frying the fish and fries in the same batter? Wildly efficient. I don't want to talk about the hush puppies. Especially given menu stated plural, I received one, and remedying the quantity wouldn't have made a difference in satisfaction. We've eaten here for years and always loved it. But, the last time we went, we were wildly overcharged. Your ticket is handwritten and then totalled at the register, so it seemed a little high, but we didn't realize how wrong it was until I checked my text receipt later. We were charged $2 more each for our meal than the menu price, we knowingly paid the 3.5% for paying with a credit card, but we each paid that 3.5 on the total, not just our portion, so they got double for that, and I still can't make the math work on the two lines for tax on my text receipt, which was also charged to both of us on the total and is even higher than the 9.97% Bixby/Tulsa tax rate per the internet. We'd had water, and after tax and tip, we ended up paying $35 for two $10.99 meals. I am still annoyed (and won't forget this one soon). read more

Small roadside diner type of place. Atmosphere was quiet even though the restaurant was full. People talked quietly. Service was good. Some booth seating along the walls, and long tables in the center. I like the quiet and feel of the place, but my meal was not as good as I hoped. The fried catfish was okay, but hush puppies were bland, "baked" beans were canned pinto beans. The cole slaw was fresh and very tasty, and saved the whole experience. Fries were fresh and crunchy on the outside, golden brown. Food came piled on a styrofoam plate. I don't like my food to touching. We visited the lazy fisherman on Saturday around 1, and ordered the sampler basket and the original dinner. The sampler basket was a trio of very thin onion rings, delicious fried okra, and the best damn fried pickles I've ever had! Highly recommend! The original dinner came with 3 delicious catfish filets, French fries, coleslaw and brown beans. The brown beans tasted like they were boiled in water with NO seasonings or even salt. Unfortunately there are no substitutions on this dinner, so will not have it again. Those pickles tho.... read more

This is a really small restaurant with limited and mostly large table seating. It is absolutely worth the trip. They are known for their fried catfish strips. The original catfish meal is a awesome and a fun lot of carbs! Three fried catfish strips, cole slaw, hush puppies, "American fries", and brown beans. Plenty of great comfort food. Absolutely outstanding. They didn't have a whole lot of pie choices on Sunday (only one); but they did have Banana and that made my wife a very happy person (hint: that is very important). I like this restaurant. The food is tasty and reasonably priced but it does always smell like they need to change the oil in their fryers.
