Tracy my server accurate fast and doing a few things at once without missing a beat. I had the lunch special steak cooked prefect medium rare. Warm rolls great salad. Mac and cheese on point. If you have not tried Captain John's please do! I promise there will not be one thing you order off the menu that you will regret! Their steaks are always cooked to perfection and have the best flavor. My personal favorite is the Zydeco which is a grilled catfish fillet over crawfish étouffée and rice. It comes with their cornbread which had peppers and corn in it. So delish! They have the coolest decor and the service is always top notch. They have a second location in Eufaula on the lake I will definitely be giving that a shot this summer! read more

Our second time through and it did not fail to impress AGAIN! Big place, busy on a Sunday, but we were seated quickly and served the same way. Killer rolls and butter when you sit down. Stopped here on the last leg of a vacation. Wife had the catfish po' boy and said it was very good. I eat a lot of meat and we hit burger and bbq joints on this trip, so I went with the grilled chicken sandwich. Glad I did. It was excellent. Both sandwiches came with pub-style battered fries. They were good. Our server was nice and the food came out fast. Glad we arrived when we did - 11:50 am on a Sunday. Lot was much more full when we left. They have a men's bathroom and a women's bathroom. Both are single occupancy, which is the one drawback for a place this size. Will go back if we pass this way, again. read more

First time to eat here, and I think I just caught it on an off night. Was a Friday night, about a 30-40 minute wait. Service was good. I ordered the pan seared snapper, and I just have a hard time I was served snapper. This looked more like tilapia as thin as it was, and didn't taste like any snapper I'd ever ate along the gulf coast. Gator bites and boudin balls were fair, but a bit over fried though. I am upgrading my review of this restaurant due to the owner reaching out and listening to the issues with my visit here. I would return if in the area based on that. I would encourage reaching out to their management during your visit if you are unsatisfied, as it sounds like they would have attempted to make it right. They are also looking at portion sizes moving forward to see where improvements can be made. Took well over five minutes to be acknowledged when arriving. Food portions tiny and tasted like it had all been microwaved. Would NOT recommend. read more

We have eaten here a few times when they first opened and food and service were both excellent! Love the interior vibes. But..... the last time we came in (about a week ago). We were waiting to be seated and were completely ignored by hostess who proceeded to seat the couple who came in after us whom she seemed to know. When I mentioned to her that we were there first, she ignored us and just started talking louder, over me! FOOD Bread - the bread is very soft dinner rolls and butter isn't too salted. Cajun Salmon Dip - the dip is good, but it doesn't really taste like Cajun. So really good and fresh. It's a colder dip. The chips are very crunchy. Blackened Salmon - the outside was a little bit salty. The salmon was cooked well. The fries were really crispy and crunchy, which were good. Probably one of the better fries that I've had. The broccoli that I got on the side was pretty mushy, which made it a bit hard to eat. My parents got the crawfish étouffée and they didn't like it that much just because it didn't taste like Cajun flavor. They did give a decent amount of crawfish inside though. VIBES We went around 2 PM and it wasn't that crowded. There's lots of boots seating as well as table seating. The lighting is pretty dim. Gives very like country vibes. Very spacious and it seems like a lot of people are here that are like families or work lunch. SERVICE Service is good. They were fast to get us drinks. This place knows what it's doing. Everything we had was fresh, hot, and full of flavor. The catfish was perfectly fried, hush puppies were on point, and the portions were generous. You can tell it's made with care and not just thrown together. Service was great too--friendly and quick, felt like a small-town spot where they actually care if you're enjoying your food. Captain John's rocks!!! They replaced Catfish Cove years ago, and I remember being heartbroken thinking we lost a true McAlester treasure. However, Captain John's kept the food as it was before, and the vibe/ambiance is the exact same as well! I love their catfish with some cocktail sauce, some fried okra, and a baked potato. Their crab legs are also amazing, and their huspuppies??? Literally perfect. Of course, you can't forget their UNREAL rolls that come out before your actual meal. They are so yummy, soft, and just perfect! I could easily eat those as my meal. The service is always great there; they are attentive, kind, and down to earth. It's popular for a reason, and I've never seen this place not super busy! read more

We're visiting a friend of mine who lives in Allen Texas there was three of us. We decided to drive to Arkansas to Fort Smith. If you traveling through the Indian nations of Oklahoma and need a tasty meal and maybe something to wash it down with, Captain John's in McAlester is a can't miss! We knew right away from the packed parking lot and the 45 minute wait that this was a sure bet. We were lucky enough to grab 2 seats at the bar & skip the wait. Plenty of catfish on the menu, as well as salmon, red snapper, snow crab and oysters, but we figured that since we were in cattle country we would have a Certified Angus Beef ribeye. GREAT choice! Although the 16ounce steak and two sides was less than half the price of just the steak at a "big city" prime steakhouse, the quality was everything we could have asked for! Traveling from AZ along SR 40 East bound. We stop in McAllester, OK for the night. The front desk representative at our hotel recommended Captain John's right across the street for a nice dinner. This small town eatery does not disappoint. I had the shrimp skewers with a side of red beans and rice. Hubby had the seafood bisque with cornbread. While traveling for work across the country, I always look for great places to eat. On a recent trip from Missouri to Texas, I stumbled upon Captin John's Seafood and Steak in McAlester, Oklahoma. There was a short wait, which seemed like a promising sign of the food's quality. Once seated, the service from the waitstaff was excellent. I ordered the ribeye steak with a baked potato and mushrooms, all made from USDA Certified Angus beef. Despite the restaurant being busy, my meal arrived quick and was very delicious. If you're ever in the area, it's definitely worth a stop. I'll be sure to return if I'm passing through again. read more

we have eaten here for several years almost weekly.. the last two visits.. one being today was horrible. I'm allergic to soy and the first bad experience was about a month ago. I requested no soy on bourbon salmon.. waitress said they had to recook it.. after the other 3 at my table had almost finished eating, they brought my baked potatoe, never salmon.. they didnt charge my meal because I didn't get to eat..tried to send potato in a to go box.. today I got same thing.. the bourbon sauce was one big clump of hard honey.. they redid it and still tasted horrible.. the salmon was soooo salty I couldn't finish it.. for $22 I expect good food.. in several years I have NEVER had an issue nor have I ever complained.. not sure what is going on but I'm very disappointed and wont go back for quite some time.. up to this point it's had a 5 star rating... read more

Excellent service and great portions! After being seated, the next item on the table was fresh-baked dinner rolls. I ate one... so I wouldn't make a decision with an empty stomach. I didn't even place my order yet! I ordered their surf and turf with etouffee. My sirloin cut came out perfect and my grilled shrimp cooked nicely. Before my meal arrived I already had my first adult beverage. The sirloin and shrimp were very delicious. The etouffee topped me off and was even more enjoyable with my second adult beverage. I used a couple more dinner rolls to sop up the rest of the etouffee. 4 stars for my first experience dining in. I'll need to try their lunch menu the next time around. Well, I must say that Hensley was right when she told me that I would be glad that I chose this restaurant to get a take-out meal! It was located a very short block away so I just walked over by the motel office and across the parking lot & down a little strip mall. I' There were people waiting in line- a good sign . This is a very small town, so even on a Friday night, I would not have expected it to be as packed as it was ! They serve seafood, catfish, burgers, steaks& Pasta. The special tonight was quail. I heard several diners discussing that is what they were going to have. My dining partner had crabcakes and said they were good. We ordered him a side of fries when he also enjoyed. I ordered a three piece fried catfish, a loaded baked potato and sweet corn bread. The catfish were very long thin fillets. Lightly breaded with cornmeal and deep fried. Not oily, not greasy! Really close to perfect by my tastebuds. The sweet corn bread was a huge square, nice and moist and studded with red & green peppers. Delicious. This serving was so large. I couldn't hardly finish half! My second side was a loaded baked potato. It was a nice foil wrapped potato. It came with small containers of shredded cheese, bacon, and a packet of sour cream. It was tender and baked well, so I was able to eat it easily with my plasticware. While I waited, I sat near the bar area which was also full up. They were very busy making adult beverages. Everyone I interacted with was polite and very pleasant ! Customers seemed happy, too !!! If we ever get back here, we will definitely have it on your list of great places to eat. read more

I saw the ratings on this place and had to stop. The server was quick to help me and take my order. I ordered a Coop F5, an Oklahoma draft and a fried alligator po-boy with fries. The F5 had hints of grapefruit which was pretty interesting. Now the po-boy. I had no idea gator could be so tender! It was amazing. The bread was perfectly toasted and it had just enough remoulade. I was told by the locals and others to stop in, so I did. Dealing with the service road and nearly construction was not fun but I got to their location and ample parking lot. I was warmly greeted, and seated quickly in what I would call an eclectic interior with four large screen TVs in the main dining room. My waitress was very nice and after she suggested options for dinner. I went with the Seafood sampler platter with a baked potato and broccoli which would join my adult beverages. The food was of very good quality and plentiful and actually a good value. No doubt this was the best meal I had in town on my week long visit so they get a solid four star review. Captain johns surprised me and completely met the criteria of a delicious dinner. The portions for the price were very fair. My fiancé and I also had some drinks that were super good as well. The service was quick, as soon as we sat down they brought out a basket of fresh warm bread that was amazing!
