Came by Captain Nemo yesterday (May 4th) since my brother is into Magic The Gathering and wanted to check out what they have to offer and what events they have! We ended up coming at a good time because they were giving away 10 comics for free + other goodies! We were definitely thankful for that and have been enjoying reading them :)

    4 Gameboy games $4/$5 each

Absolutely love this shop, had so much nostalgia and a large variety of games, music, dvds, board games, comic books/posters, DND related items, etc. The prices for the games are pretty good, I got about 4 gameboy games for $4/$5 each. The only games not worth it are PS5 games that are listed at $60/$70, better to just check on the PS Store or go to GameStop for the PS5 games. I ended up getting my father a very nice Spider-Man poster for his gaming room for $30, worth it. The staff there are pretty chill and nice, they're fairly helpful if you have a question on where to find an item, can't wait to come back.

Snapshots of the FB conversation they had with me after I gave the one star review.

The Warhammer section of the store has been and continues to be in disarray. The small area is often cluttered with other junk/trade ins that sit in piles in the middle of the floor. The employees don't take much active interest in keeping this portion of the store in order and it appears as if they don't really care anymore about it. And I was recently attacked on FB about this review and told to shop elsewhere by the shop. In addition, they hid the conversation on FB but I will be posting screenshots of the conversation here on Yelp so all can see. Their tone and attitude simply lends credence to the reviews of others here. Rude, disrespectful, and impolite. Multiple data points is a trend.

We had a little time to kill as we are passing through SLO for business. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the sign for Captain Nemo's and right there was the driveway to park and back. I didn't really have tons and tons of time but walking through I was amazed. I love this kind of place! So I get what other people were talking about in their reviews. They're complaining that the staff were less than stellar. I'll leave it at that because in spite of the great selection the sour contact with staff left me thinking I'm not going to buy anything. I saw some out of print materials I typically would have bought on impulse... But now I really don't need to buy it since the staff were sour. Anyways I'll probably try and stop again when next we pass through SLO for business and I've got free time. Three stars seems about right we're normally would have been all five stars for selection and the clean layout and at best two stars for the sour service encounters I had.

The selection of comics is what drew me in to begin with, but it's the depth of their old RPG books that keeps me there for hours.

Leisure Time Games is located in the Santa Maria Towne Center, if you check out the pictures you…read morecan see that it's a tiny store that sells all kinds of cool board games. What really makes this place popular is their tournaments that are held almost every day! When I was there, they were holding a Magic tournament. At least that is what I think they were playing, but I don't have too much experience in that stuff. There were tons of people here though, both in front of the store as well as in the far back of the store. There were tons of tables set out with people in the tournament. There was so much that there was an over spillage of people into the tables the mall provides in the middle of the mall! The store seems kind of dark and old, like you're in some kind of basement. I think they need better lighting. The selection of board games was small, but they had popular ones like the Settlers of Catan, Seafareres of Catan, many different variety/themes of Munchkin, and even Monopoly! This is a great place for a boy to spend time at.

I'm new to the world of comics so I enjoy visiting the store. I like the store its small and conveniently located in the mall. The store is clean and organized easy to find what your looking for. If you need assistance someone will help you. Great customer service. The store owner is very nice he always greets us when we walk in and remembers my husband's name.

We have seen chains like Borders and Barns & Noble, as well as locally owned shops - Granada Books and Earthling - all sadly disappear from our community, and I am concerned that Chaucer's has become complacent, secure in the knowledge that they hold a monopoly on Santa Barbara readers. Chaucer's selection is expansive, however, in their effort to provide a broad range of titles, there is usually only one copy of each. The staff over-crowd their narrow aisles, oftentimes with books stacked on the floor, a difficult navigation when you are also trying to squeeze past another patron in their aisles that are barely two-people wide. I also am ambivalent about Chaucer's organization. Mind you, it is easy to miss the placards that indicate each section and sub-section, as they are the same hand-written signs on cardboard that have been stuck between the books for the past 20 years. It is unclear also who is staff and who is not, because there is no dress code and there are no nametags... except on the dog wearing a bandana identifying her as 'Shop Dog.' Look for whoever is actually behind the counter, I suppose. It must be said that they are friendly and helpful. If they do not have a specific book that you are looking for, they always offer to order it for you.
