This is a cool store with a lot of records, a/v equipment, games and toys. I spent most of my time here in the comic book room upstairs. What an amazing collection! I wizh i'd had time to go through every box, but there are so many, and it got way too hot in the little room for me to spend all day...if it had a fan going, I could spend hours up here. Prices are just a little higher than I think is fair in some items, but not enough to stop me from shopping. I found some really difficult to find issues! They really have it all at Nemo's. It's one of those places where you need to experience it. The prices on the records are not as good as Boo Boo Records(see my review), but you feel like you are on a treasure hunt looking for the undiscovered gem. They have cassettes and CDs to go along with the records. They have comic books, games, and other collectibles that make it a place where you'll probably be able to find a gift for that special someone. It's a massive store and be careful of the hours. Never have pokemon tcg in stock. When I called to ask about stock today the employee was rude and hung up on me. No play nights for pokemon tcg. No singles of any tcg. Id give it zero stars but the music shop attached to it is okay. Prices are steep. Id recommend just buying for you gaming needs online. This place sucks. read more

Before heading home we stopped by SLO to grab ice cream and check out the card shops around. I found Captain Nemo Games and Comics for hubby and we decided to come check them out. It's a really big store with a lot of games and records on one side and the other has trading cards, games and comics. It was very fascinating. Hubby was looking for some sleeves for his cards, I believe he found what he was looking for but I can't quite remember. I was looking around at all the items they have and saw some cute Sailor Moon items, Disney items, and Hello Kitty but I decided not to buy anything as I had already spent to much on our little mini getaway. Most definitely will be back when we are in the area and will hopefully be able to purchase something from here! read more

Absolutely love this shop, had so much nostalgia and a large variety of games, music, dvds, board games, comic books/posters, DND related items, etc. The prices for the games are pretty good, I got about 4 gameboy games for $4/$5 each. The only games not worth it are PS5 games that are listed at $60/$70, better to just check on the PS Store or go to GameStop for the PS5 games. I ended up getting my father a very nice Spider-Man poster for his gaming room for $30, worth it. The staff there are pretty chill and nice, they're fairly helpful if you have a question on where to find an item, can't wait to come back. read more

I wish you could give less than one star. A totally bogus company. They advertised help wanted... made me fill out a FIVE page employment application. They wanted me to prove that I can do long division, which I did. I made sure they got my application (because they did not communicate back at all). They finally let me know they got it, but then they never once reached out after that. This was for a position to basically just work in the store. You do not need to know long division to help customers. I've never once had to jump through so many unnecessary hoops like I did with this. I think they are just pulling people's chains at this point. BTW - they are STILL posting that they are looking for help. What a crock of BS. Captain Nemo - whomever runs your store/HR, needs to take a course in how to actually run it. read more

Like coming here since The Sub burned down years ago. My son picked up a few records and I got very cool Wonder Woman wallet. There are comics, cool items, and music. It is such a fun place to go to. Parking on 2 exterior sides of the store. We come here every time we drive to the Bay Area. read more

The Warhammer section of the store has been and continues to be in disarray. The small area is often cluttered with other junk/trade ins that sit in piles in the middle of the floor. The employees don't take much active interest in keeping this portion of the store in order and it appears as if they don't really care anymore about it. And I was recently attacked on FB about this review and told to shop elsewhere by the shop. In addition, they hid the conversation on FB but I will be posting screenshots of the conversation here on Yelp so all can see. Their tone and attitude simply lends credence to the reviews of others here. Rude, disrespectful, and impolite. Multiple data points is a trend. read more

Friends raved about this place. Don't see why. Came in looking for Warhammer comics. Front desk dude chases me down asking me to leave my paper shopping bag of clothes at front that had probably $300 of items in it. No dude I'm not leaving my belongings with you, a stranger. The girl at the warhammer area is on her phone and useless when I asked where the warhammer Comics would be and just shrugs, pointing jn a general direction. They had a few of the ones I needed but I just bought a back issue that I had trouble finding. Instead I went to captain nemos who were way nicer and friendlier than this joke of a place and bought the rest of my comics from them. Nemos is a joke and Cain's got my current and future business in the end. read more

My wife and I took the train up the coast to San Louis Obispo and my cousin recommended this place to me, because she knows I like this kind of stuff. There is so much going on in this multi level shop. The have used music, the have old video game machines, they have ton of comics and there is a plethora of all games that people are playing right now. If I had more time I could spend hours in here! It has everything that a person that likes this stuff could ever want. Nice enough crew, who I admit I didn't deal with too much and there were a good amount of people perusing the goods. The location is near some cool tap rooms and lots of other attractions. My wife, who doesn't even like this stuff, thought it was a pretty cool shop! read more

They wont let you shop unless you leave your bag/purse at the front of the store. I was blocks away from my car and i didnt want to walk all that way so i obliged. I came back from the vinyl selection upstairs and my purse was gone. Stolen. They said they werent liable for my bag being stolen either. If you want comics, go to dr cains instead. If you want vinyls or cds, go to booboos. I feel like boboos prices are better as well. Staff is rude and honestly the building itself was so sketchy. Idk how it's within safety code. Would not recommend or ever go back in all honesty. read more

We had a little time to kill as we are passing through SLO for business. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the sign for Captain Nemo's and right there was the driveway to park and back. I didn't really have tons and tons of time but walking through I was amazed. I love this kind of place! So I get what other people were talking about in their reviews. They're complaining that the staff were less than stellar. I'll leave it at that because in spite of the great selection the sour contact with staff left me thinking I'm not going to buy anything. I saw some out of print materials I typically would have bought on impulse... But now I really don't need to buy it since the staff were sour. Anyways I'll probably try and stop again when next we pass through SLO for business and I've got free time. Three stars seems about right we're normally would have been all five stars for selection and the clean layout and at best two stars for the sour service encounters I had. read more

The "Expert" is never available, you have to leave your stuff and wait almost a week, Cluttered Annexes，they for one tenth of what they sell that collectors item, literally valued a 1989 Cast Autographed Batman Novel at Fifty Five Dollars Had it sent to CGC got a 8.6 and valued much more than the scalping offer. I've been coming here for many years and all staff are very welcoming, warm and the environment is so fun! For every 80's, 90's babies and beyond this is the dream. Like a huge time machine back to every place you've ever been to find any music record, movies or collection of items you could ever desire. My husband came In with me for his first time and fell madly for it all! I knew he would love it as much as I always have :) Hope that my kiddos will grow to love it too! This is the best games and comics store I've been to I love how all the comics are the price to buy when they were released.

Want to give it negative stars! I visited the store and stayed less than 5 mins before feeling dizzy and nauseous from all the dust and it's extremely stuffy. Wish I never visited that joke of a store, their prices are awful and am better off going anywhere else or shopping on eBay. I would trust a dog to take care of my bag then this business, as lots of people have had their bags stolen because of this brain dead rule. I've lived in SLO for 12 years and have been purchasing from Captain Nemo since I first moved to the area. I love the concept, and there are great products in the shop on a regular basis. I have played in the game hall on week nights for years and met some great people and had lots of fun. Really what I'm most disappointed about is how the store is managed, and how little the company does to support their employees, who in turn are handcuffed in actually helping customers. As you may have read from other posts, there are often awkward situations about how customers feel confronted when they walk in with bags and backpacks. I've never had this experience directly but I've witnessed it many times when others walk in the door. Also, I've had countless experiences where an employee has told me they don't know how to order products, or that they know very little about games and never receive any training, or that they don't know how to use the register, etc. This review is not aimed at the individual employees, who by and large, have been helpful and kind to me over the years but at the policies and lack of support from the ownership to manage their policies better. Huge shout out to Rick, who has gone above and beyond for me many times despite the barriers I have mentioned. SO much love for Rick! Overall, my feeling is that the company has very little desire to promote tabletop gaming, build community, or connect gamers in any intentional way. It seems that the doors remain open because they are the only shop in town, or they have enough bankroll to keep going despite constantly disappointing customers. I'd love to see these efforts addressed and will continue to support the shop, at least minimally, because I want to see change but my willingness has wained and I warn others about purchasing from the shop as well. Here's to hoping the ownership takes the lead in improving the store experience! read more

Don't bother trading stuff here, you won't get much for them. That doesn't equate to savings when buying used items either. You're lucky to get a couple bucks for something you paid $40-$60 for, and you'll generally find it on the shelf at near new prices. Everything here is generally priced at MSRP. The best thing they have going for them is the game room in the outside building. It's a good place to go, until the D&D guys show up and then having a conversation is near impossible. I stayed in the Pismo Beach area for vacation with the wife for some sun and relaxation. But before coming up to the central coast from San Diego I did some research on Yelp on any nearby comic book shops. The only one I found was Captain Nemo in San Luis Obispo about 15 minutes away from where we were staying. So being the nerd I am I had to check it out. The good thing is that my fellow yelpers already ranked it pretty high so that made me look forward to going even more. Parking a few blocks away, I forgot about the free parking near Nemo's. This is after I fed about two dollars in change in the parking meter that my wife dug out from the bottom of her purse. Thanks babe. Nemo's is easy to spot. It's a huge brick building with murals of dragons and a huge display window with various comic book images of super heroes. Again there is a parking lot with free parking. Doh!! Walking inside you see all kind of records and music paraphernalia. If you are looking for that kind of stuff they definitely have it; also CD's, DVD's and old electronics. But of course I came for the comics. Inside another room to the left is wall to wall graphic novels, games, toys and comic books. They have a long aisle with current comic books. One side is Marvel, DC and the other side is the other comic company publishers-Image, Darkhorse to name a few. Needless to say they have every selection of comic book out right now. It was cool to see a lot of comic books I am not used to seeing in your average comic book store. This is not your average comic book store. After finding a stack of books that I wanted to buy; I started to look for the back issues with no luck. I asked one of the guys where the back issues were and he replied they are on the third floor. What?! Third floor? There is a third floor? Sweet. Walking up a small flight of stairs. I reach the second floor. Records, records and more records. I have to tell my brother about this place. He is a big music junkie as well as a part time deejay. He would love this place. Walking up another flight of stairs. I reach the third floor. Boxes and boxes of back issues. Didn't see anything I wanted right away. I was kind of pressed for time. I didn't want to push my luck with my wife but I could of spent a couple of hours up there. If I did I would of definitely found something else to buy. Nemo's was definitely a cool place to visit. They have something for everybody here. Old records, games, DVD's, comic books, toys and other collectibles. Definitely one of the highlights of my vacation. Support your local comic book stores especially if they are good. In the name of supporting local retailers, my husband spent $99 plus tax here on a board game that costs only $75 online. He gave it to me as a gift, and I said thank you very much but that I didn't want such an expensive game. We tried to return it less than a week later, in its shrink wrap, with a receipt and were told the only option was store credit... and the store credit doesn't include the sales tax we paid! Sure, this lame policy saved them $99 (plus tax...) this time. But it cost them money and good will longer term. Because next time (and next time and next time) I won't be willing to pay extra to shop here to support a retailer with crap customer service. read more

I've owned a comic book shop for 25+ years and I have to say, one of the worst things ANY retail shop can ever do is assume that a potential customer is going to steal from you, the second that they walk through the door! SLO is a travel through town, and I wasn't allowed to browse the store unless I left my backpack behind the counter and if I'm carrying my backpack instead of leaving in the car, I obviously care enough about what's in it, to NOT leave it with some strangers. I know this place has been around for ever, but NO WAY would I ever spend a dime here with that kind of NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, expecting everyone is going to steal. It must be the reason that there's 2 shops in SLO now, people probably got sick of nemos and started going to Dr. Cains up the street. After 25 years in business, I hold retailers to a particular standard, and these guys failed immediately! read more

A close family member raved about this place and if you're into old CD's, vinyl, books, stereo equipment or video games this is the place for you. However...it is a little warm, maybe due to a lack of an AC. And there is a female employee that will address you like a toddler if you have any food or drinks in your possession. The way in which she addressed my having a beverage was so incredibly condescending that I will never set foot in this store again and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I realize that there's a reason for the no drink rule, I honestly was holding the cup absent-mindedly, but there are much more appropriate and polite ways of addressing the situation than how she chose to do it. As a business that is clearly going out of fashion in this modern world of technology, I would think it would be prudent to educate employees on the importance of great customer service in order to avoid losing brand new customers the second they enter the building. And to top it off, she had the audacity to ask me if there was another copy on the shelf of the book I was planning on buying for my nephew, as if to say I wasn't permitted to purchase the last copy or something. Good luck staying open while employing people with such poor attitudes. I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

I've had pleasant experiences at this shop in the past, but today's interaction has left me in such a bad head space that I doubt I'll muster the desire to come back. I understand the policy to check bags at a shop, and I understand the policy to check "large" bags at a shop; however, this policy seems more like a coded "no men with purses" policy, seeing that after I returned my purse to the car I returned to find that a woman stood nearby with her purse slung over her shoulder. The elderly man at the counter didn't agree that her bag, which was certainly large enough to stuff with more than a few used CDs, was also a threat. Beyond being sexist and heteronormative, the implication that I look like a thief and she doesn't is insulting. I wish this hadn't happened. I liked this shop on the whole, and would look forward to visiting. read more
