The space is just big enough that you don't feel like it's tiny but just small enough to feel like you're right in the action. The bar tenders were friendly, they had lots of beer selections (not all on tap, many canned options) and the band turned out to be absolutely fabulous! Following Strange Brew on Facebook is a great way to find out about all their different shows (bands, trivia, comedy, etc) and I don't know why we waited so long to get there! A great thing is their response to Facebook requests for information. But, It was cold outside and when we came in, upstairs, it was cold inside too. There are a few options for parking including on street parking on both sides of the road. Our building is located on the right side of the road (Water Street is a one way road). There are also three parking garages across the street. Each are available for parking, two of them have signage that says otherwise but it does not apply to our business hours, 6pm till closed. There are a few other parking garages located in downtown within walking distance including Main Street parking garage. There is also parking available in the lot at the marina, about a two minute walk from us on the road running parallel with our road. Actually, the dress code seems more lax than even their site description suggests. It was shockingly vacant this Fourth of July evening. Let that not be a testament to their apparent popularity level; but rather, the typical American's propensity to get plastered via pre-gaming as their search for a solid fireworks show compels them to parts unknown. It's this lack of attendance, however, that gives me the vibe we literally could have waltzed in here wearing anything shy of a scantily clad bathing suit or something. See, usually...it's other guests that complain about folks' attire more so than the business itself. At least, in my experience. Nevertheless, I avoided their 3 big no-nos: no baseball caps, tank tops, or basically any attire that makes one otherwise appear to be an "undesirable" after 7PM. Translation: if you wear some kind of fancy hat with non-ripped jeans and a clean shirt, you'll fit in just fine. Naturally, we came in with the intent to shoot some pool. There are 3 tables, each prorated at $10 per half hour (even though the site just says $20 an hour). I guess they train the bartenders to say the first thing so that it sounds cheaper when said aloud. Small caveat at the time of writing this review: one of their pool tables is faulty due to a rather noticeable tear on the fabric. Luckily for us, we were forewarned by the greeting staff at what I'll assume to be the bowling check-in desk. Although we didn't try any food seeing as how we came in right after having dinner at Cedars Steakhouse, the drinks were on point. Plus, the table we used was perfectly level. We didn't like the fact there was no cue assist aiming stick for those hard-to-reach-shots (IYKYK). Outside of that, there's really nothing bad to say about this lounge. Perhaps when we visit Foxwoods again, we'll actually try the food next time around. Keeping this one in my back pocket, I'm giving High Rollers Luxury Lanes & Sports Lounge 5 eight balls in the corner pocket out of 5.

When we arrived, there was one bartender, Jackie, and she was very busy, busy to the point that we had to wait every time we wanted something. Jackie was very friendly and she was working extremely hard to take care of all of the guests but, the bar was grossly understaffed, not Jackie's fault. We ordered food, it took a reasonable time to come out and it was very good! We had the philly egg rolls, a pepperoni pizza and a veggie burger. We went to play pool thinking that a "High Roller" lounge would have well maintained pool tables. There were three tables, two of them had gashes in the felt, the felt on all three was very worn and several of the pool cues had no tips on them, not a good experience! When we were cashing out, Jackie apologized again for the slow service, and I assured her that it was not her fault that management left her alone to handle a 30+ seat bar and tables with probably 40 guests. While I was talking to Jackie, there was a supervisor at the bar talking to Jackie, she chimed in and apologized and stated that they weren't expecting it to be busy. It was Sunday of Labor Day weekend, commonly considered a second Saturday in the casino world. They definitely should have known it would be busy. Where was the supervisor while Jackie was getting overwhelmed, why wasn't she at the bar helping out? I applaud Jackie for doing a great job under the circumstances, she is pleasant, knowledgeable and a great server, but I won't return until they do some maintenance on the pool tables, they were in worst shape than a neighborhood bar pool table, and for $20 an hour to play pool I would expect much better.

Half Keg Tavern is a historic neighborhood tavern that opened in New London, Connecticut in 1946…read more The tavern is housed inside a converted Quonset hut, which was likely picked up cheaply at the conclusion of World War II. The Half Keg stands out from other Connecticut drinking establishments in that it is technically a tavern as opposed to a bar. What's the difference? Bars can serve just about anything (including hard liquor), whereas taverns (once known as "public houses" back when residents were still British subjects) are places that can serve only beer, wine, cider, and food if they choose. At the time the Half Keg opened, there were maybe 700 taverns in Connecticut. Today, less than 10 Connecticut drinking establishments operate under a tavern license. A number of different owners have come and gone at the Half Keg, including longtime owners Ron & Maryann DiNoto. Since October 2016, the Half Keg has been owned and operated by Teresa Stomberg and her son David Donatello. The tavern serves a variety of domestic and foreign beer as well as a food menu of fresh handcrafted burgers, grinders, and a variety of bar bites. I recently visited the Half Keg for lunch while I was in the New London area. I arrived not long after they opened for the day. I pulled up a seat at the bar and began to peruse the menu. I first ordered a plate of "Fried Pickles", which were on the specials menu that day. Served with a dipping sauce, they were hot, crispy and very flavorful. I washed them down with a draught pour of Samuel Adams' "Summer Ale". Afterwards, I ordered a "Garlic & Onion Burger" (garlic & onion seasoned burger on a a garlic-buttered roll, slice of raw onion, lettuce, tomato) with a side of "Hand Cut Seasoned Fries". Don't expect anything particularly fancy here. It's just good, old-fashioned home cooking. No frills, no fuss; just fresh ingredients and good flavor! I washed my burger and fries down with a draught pour of Two Roads Brewing's "Two Juicy" (Double New England IPA). That lunch really hit the spot. I'd be interested in trying out one of their grinders on a return trip. If you're in the mood for a good sports game paired with a cold beer, good food, and the company of friendly locals, then head to the Half Keg!

One sample that was not requested and one sample 3/4 of an inch and a 2 ounce glass. I know it sounds trivial, but seven dollars is seven dollars. Another bartender listen to us explain that and took it off of our bill. Make sure you check your receipts.
