When you are learning, you'll most likely get blown down wind but he will be right by your side ready to bring you back. 2. He has a launching point out of Paradise Cay which is as good a wing foiling location as you could hope for. 3. He's a great foiler himself so he knows what he's talking about. 4. He's a great teacher. And the walkie-talkie communication allows him to keep giving you guidance while you are out on the water. 5. He's super nice, cool and enthusiastic. Captain Josh was so fun! The weather was beautiful. The boat is beautiful (and safe). We went out from 1-5pm. Stopped at Angel Island and enjoyed lunch. We had two people with us that normally get sea sick, however, they were both fine even on the slightly choppy bay water. It was nice to go out on the Bay with a Captain who had personality. He was interactive, joked around and we loved learning about his past adventures and future sailing adventures. Great having a San Francisco local to guide us. We celebrated my dad's 50th birthday on Captain Josh's boat and we couldn't have made a better choice! He was so accommodating, down to earth and engaging. He allowed us to bring our own food and beer and even had champagne available for purchase to toast the birthday guy! Captain Josh and the Striper were the perfect addition to our weekend plans! We had a quick getaway to SF and wanted to get out on the water. Luckily we found Josh through our hotel. We spent the afternoon on his boat and it was a blast. He took us to the Golden Gate Bridge, showed us the wind foilers, and cruised by Alcatraz. Josh is the man. I spent two 3 hour sessions learning to wing foil with Josh out of Tiburon. These were my first ever wing foiling sessions. He's got the perfect set up -- a private spot to learn how to handle the wing, a boat to tow and support you as you learn how to ride the foil, and then easy access to some of the best winds in the bay as you put the two together. I brought my own wetsuit, but he's got all the gear a beginner would need. He was in my ear the whole time, coaching me via two way radio attached to the helmet that he provided. He's also a great teacher and is able to break down the skills you need systematically in easy to understand steps. With his tutelage, I was actually up on foil a pretty decent amount during my second session (though it wasn't pretty). If you're remotely interested in learning how to wing foil, definitely hit up Josh for a few introductory lessons. I'd recommend signing up for a bare minimum of two sessions if you're a complete beginner. read more

Best money we ever spent! My mom and I surprised my grandma (and 4 others) with a 3 hour tour on the bay to celebrate her 89th birthday. The weather was beautiful. Snacks, company and destination just right. Sail speed was smooth and went with the flow. A birthday song and additional music to top it off...it was the perfect afternoon. Stay away from Captain Josh. He's a total flake. I purchased a Groupon for Captain San Francisco on January 15 and couldn't get Captain Josh to return any of my calls or emails for almost a week. I finally got the following email from him on Jan 20: "Yes I can mark you down in my books for a two hour sunset cruise on march 2nd. I will need a 50% deposit by Feb 2nd in order to secure the charter. thanks so much, Captain Josh" To which I immediately resonded with my Groupon information and let him know that I was planning to propose to my girlfriend on his boat that evening, so the day was very important to me. I didn't hear any word back from him for a couple of weeks, so I emailed him on February 3 asking for an update. No response for 3 days and then I got this today (Feb 6): "I sailed my boat to puerta vallarta, i will not be back by march 2nd, best wishes, thanks for the inquiry." Seriously?? Fortunately Groupon refunded me without any hassle, but this has very potentially screwed my proposal plans if I can't book another boat for March 2. I repeat, STAY AWAY FROM CAPTAIN JOSH. He has no idea how to run a business and no regard for customer service. Stick with a reputable charter company. read more

I was looking for something to do with my girlfriend for July 4th weekend and came across Captain San Francisco on living social. I decided to give Captain Josh a call to check his availability. Josh recommended that we reserve a private package which can accommodate up to six people. I got two other couples to join us and between the six of us, the price was pretty reasonable. Josh allowed us to bring our own food and drinks on board (no red wine due to staining) and also provided us with a large bottle of wine. We met Josh at pier 1 and he quickly got us on his boat and explained the safety procedures and rules. He had an auxiliary cable for us to play our own music. Josh was very friendly and accommodating to our needs. We polished down our drinks and food while cruising around on a sunny Sunday afternoon. It was very relaxing and damn near therapeutic. Everyone in my party had a great experience. We are looking forward to hitting the water again some time soon and I have recommended Captain San Francisco to some of my friends. read more

A friend of mine chartered Captain Josh' boat for a tour on the Bay to watch the America's Cup. It was absolutely a fantastic experience. Josh was very cool, took good care of us and was very adept at navigating the bay and dealing with other skippers and boats who were not as well behaved. He also got us prime positioning to watch the regatta. His boat is in great condition. On the way back he put up the sail and we came in without the motor. I am definitely going to charter Josh' boat in the future. If you get a group of friends together it's very reasonable. He was drunk by sundown, had to mention more than once that we were headed for a wall. As if this is an excuse, he also becomes inappropriately touchy/feely. Regardless of my boyfriend's presence, I was cornered when alone, groped and offered foul propositions. In an attempt to preserve everyone else's experience, I held my tongue until shore. I'm not one to make a scene or wish undue harm on people, but the idea of other ladies being harassed, stranded and/or helpless on his boat makes me sick enough to tell everyone I know. I booked a morning sail charter for my father's 70th birthday for 7 people, a few weeks in advance that happened to be during Fleet week. Below is a timeline of what happened. 9/22/15: Spoke on phone with Captain Josh, gave credit card info to book. 10/6/15: Never emailed me directions nor confirmation despite several emails so I called again and he confirmed: "meeting location is pier 1.5 the embarcadero SF, 94111 behind la mar restaurant, 9-11am." So all seemed fine. Day of sail, 10/10/15, 8:17am: He EMAILS me this: "I was wondering if we could sail tommorow morning from 930-1130am it's supposed to sunny and warmer. Thanks josh" --10 min later I email: "We're here and waiting at pier 1.5 and ready to go. My cell is ..." --Captain Josh by email: "Sorry we must reschedule to tomorrow morning. I have to deal w a water impeller pump that went bad." --I emailed him to cancel completely and he NEVER replied So I traveled from NY with 2 young children to meet up with my parents in SF with this charter as a special gift and I get an EMAIL just 45 minutes before the appointment with a shady email with all of us waiting at the pier. A celebration turned into a major disappointment. I know he has 5 stars from everyone else, which is why I booked him. Make your own opinion about this but beware. read more

We were able to ride on Josh's boat for my husband's 30th birthday this past weekend. His boat was very nice and we enjoyed our time! His dog, Brody was super sweet. We love dogs but I think that you would want to be a dog lover to book a trip on this boat. We enjoyed playing with the dog but if you were scared of dogs it might be an issue.
