After contacting CaptSoot@AOL.com multiple times about the missing parts, I received 3 more shipments to get what I had purchased. The firelogs and the fiber-brick firewall arrived broken. CaptSoot replaced the firelogs under warranty, but he refused to replace the fiber-brick firewall under warranty. He stated that it was "not a safety issue, it's an accessory to make your fireplace look good". I paid $397 for the fiber-brick firewall, which comes with a 1yr warranty and now I'm stuck with it. I scheduled an appointment for a chimney cleaning with Jeff and was provided a two hour window. The day of the appointment, during my appointment window, Jeff called and said they couldn't make it. He rescheduled me for another two hour window the next day. Nobody showed up the next day and nobody called. I called Jeff back to find out when someone could reschedule. He said I can't tell you now, I'll call you later. I asked if he could let me know approximately, and he said no and proceeded to hang up on me. Total time wasted was approximately 5-6 hours waiting around for his crew (in the middle of my workday). Our $2,500+ Napolean fireplace insert arrived at our home damaged. Specifically the top flashing and a metal piece on the back were severely bent. I contacted Jeff at Captain Soot about getting it replaced and at first he said it shouldn't be a problem but after putting me off for weeks, he started to doubt that it could be replaced. I kept calling and emailing but no one would return my calls or emails. Needless to say, I am very disappointed with the customer service or lack thereof. My husband was able to bend it back but it doesn't look good, at all. I have tried to get the top flashing replaced but have had no success. After multiple shipment delays, we were so excited to get delivery on our Napoleon grill. After unpacking the box we realized they had sent the version of the grill meant for a built-in BBQ area. Mistakes happen, especially in the time of COVID, so we were disappointed but patient. We reached out to Captain Soot (at his AOL email address) and have been continually ignored, put off, and responded to only vaguely and intermittently for weeks. The correct grill did arrive eventually (hooray!), but we have been trying to get the incorrect one off our front walk for 24 days now. No one will come to pick it up, it's too heavy to move, and it's now a perfectly good piece of product going to waste. The lack of communication is most frustrating, much more than any mistake. This is my 3rd wood fireplace insert. I wish I had met the Captain for the 1st two! While when you go to the showroom you will be led to believe from the outside that its a rinky dink hole in the wall, once inside you will see he has a large selections of stoves to choose from. Also at the cheapest prices. I could care less about a fancy showroom if im saving $. Jeff went over the stoves with me and picked the appropriate one for my home. Installation was scheduled for a week later. When his crew arrived at the house, they were professional and knowledgeable. The install went smooth and they work very efficiently. Less than two hours later I was starting my 1st fire. I easily saved over $1200 from the 1st two places I used for my other stoves. If you know what you want, you want to save yourself $ and headaches, the Captain is the man for you. read more

He installed two stoves in my house. One a fireplace insert the other a stand alone stove. The price was good on both. Its the chimney pipe installation that has been a problem. It leaks. He made two attempts at fixing it and has never come back. He blamed the problem on the roof (it never leaked before he did the instal) so I had a roofer take a look. He said the roof is fine, its the pipe cap. The cap also lets in birds. Captain Soot said he would fix it and do a chimney sweep, but has never shown up to do either. It is in a very hard to get to place. The roofer wants $1,200 to fix the pipe. I should have taken him to small claims court. He did the work that leaks in 2013. read more

UPDATE! 5-03-2016 So apparently Captain Soot has no idea what he's doing either! It wasn't even the parts he said it was and that he never ordered! He said it was the fans! NOPE! It was what I said it was all along! The computer panel! The universe works in mysterious ways! Thank you to Main Street Stove for coming to my rescue! Captain Soot Sucks!!!!! On 2-22-2016 Captain Soot came to check out my Enviro M55 pellet stove that wasn't working. He removed 2 parts (both of the fans) that needed to be replaced. I also asked him to get a control panel as mine had cracked after years of use and needed to be replaced. He gave me an estimate, took my check for the service call and said he would get me the parts prices and call me. He never called so I reached out to him after about a week. He gave me some excuse and I accepted his excuse that the parts supplier hadn't gotten back to him. He said he would call me back. No call again. I called. Got another excuse. Okay, I'm one to always try to give the benefit of the doubt. Not even giving thought to the fact that he never returned a call after I had left messages. Again there was no return call. I called again! Got another BS excuse but he did give me the prices for the parts this time. I was actually hopeful that he would actually call me with arrangements to do the job. Obviously I am a huge schmuck and obviously he didn't want to do the job. He could have just let me know during one of the numerous phone calls I made to him. I got excuse after excuse. Shame on me for giving him the benefit of thinking he was really busy and forgot. This pellet stove is my main heat source. I am now officially freezing my ass of because of his horrible business practices. Had it been a harsher winter I would have called someone else much sooner but by sheer luck it's been really mild. I run an animal rescue that is home foster based, thank goodness the pups that are here have fur coats but some are here for hospice or have had surgeries and need to get well and have to wear a sweater or coat. This guy may do good work when he feels like it but he is obviously a very poor business man. read more

First off I want to say I am 100% writing this review to talk about what a positive experience I had and that you really need to read these reviews carefully. I had researched many local locations in Seaford ( fireplace store, Jetmore) they couldn't see me at my home for approx a month out. Their prices were super high also. My Husband and myself just wanted a gas insert. I called at the end of October went down to his showroom, I was initially unsure of what we would find but his show room is all you need to see to help you pick out what you want. He talks in detail about the product which to me was great as many of the other competitors will give you limited information. His prices were right and we left with 4 different ideas for our gas fireplace. We waited about 2 weeks for the insert to come in. In November 2018 there was that freak snow storm, he came out still with his assistant and installed it. I was impressed with his work ethic. Go for it! read more

Captain Soot went out of his way to help me when there was a manufacturers defect with a fireplace insert. When the manufacturer was non-responsive to our complaint, Jeff kept pushing them until they agreed to replace our insert. We actually got an upgrade for no charge. We really appreciate what they did. My brother had recommended Captain Soot after being pleased with the two stoves he put in for him.
