Came to clean my fireplace insert liner. They were told me make/model in advance but didnt know how to disassemble the top of the unit to expose the pipe. I knew and had to show them. But the real complaint is that they never managed to clean up to the top of the chimney. Their repair price seemed high so after the cleaning I had 2 other companies come by for estimates. Both of them asked me when I had the Chimney cleaned last, and I told them, last week. They looked again, with the caps off and told me they didnt get to the top of the liner. Oh well. read more

Fred's Chimney Magic refused to honor the "Groupon" promotion they advertised for a fireplace cleaning and inspection, claiming I had a "nest" in my flue. This "nest", as it turned out, consisted of a small shopping bag full of leaves and small branches (see photo below). Removing such small amounts of debris is part of any standard seasonal chimney cleaning. Not only did they try to charge me five times more that what I agreed to pay for the service prior to scheduling a service visit, they tried to upsell me on additional chimney work which had nothing to do with the basic cleaning and safety inspection I paid for (big red flag). Moreover, the two chimney sweeps they sent couldn't have looked more unhappy to be there. No sooner did they arrive for the appointment, that they bolted into my house as if someone were chasing them--obviously looking to do a quick rush job, with literally zero effort made to explain any aspect of the process to the homeowner. They immediately seemed exasperated and jabbered to each other nervously, as if I were not even there. I felt uncomfortable with the situation from start to finish, as I could tell from the outset, based on their behavior alone, that they had no intention of cleaning our chimney that day without extorting a considerably higher fee from us. When we refused to fork over the extra money for their "nest removal service", they abruptly begged off the job and then quickly departed, visibly annoyed. To make things worse, the service was scheduled just four days before Christmas, which means that we were nearly deprived of the use of our fireplace over the holidays as a result of this highly regrettable incident. Fortunately, we were able to get another Chimney sweep out to our residence that same day on extreme short notice, who promptly ascended onto our roof and brushed out our chimney for one hundred dollars less than what this company tried to charge us for the same service. There was such a pronounced lack of professionalism evident in the way the visit was conducted by this company, that I could never in good conscience recommend their services to others, nor hire them for any further work on my chimney. When I do decide to have maintenance work done on my chimney (repointing, caulking, and a new chimney cap) in the near future, I definitely won't be dealing with this company. I recently had a very unpleasant experience with Magic Chimney that made unsolicited calls and was very dismissive. Alex was unhelpful and unprofessional. They did not take the time to listen to my concerns and instead tried to rush me off the phone and immediately hung up when I told him the homeowner wasn't currently available. They won't stop calling. I asked them several times over the past few years to stop calling but they keep calling. I left a one star review once and the owner called to ask me to remove the review, they'd stop calling. So I removed it. But they called again. Then they called again later that day to apologize for calling and to say they'd really stop calling this time. It's like a comedy act. Then today they called again from a different number! There doesn't seem to be any way to get them to stop calling. I don't understand why they can't just delete me from their system. It's been years at this point.
