During lent we observe the no meat Friday tradition in the Catholic Church. As carnivores, that is a bit of a challenge for us. This year we found this market and it has gone really well for us, especially since they have several pre-cooked items so you don't have to do much preparation. So far we have tried the pre-cooked cocktail shrimp with their sauce and have found it super fresh and really good. The white fish salad was too salty for me but generally okay. My wife has gotten oysters, crab meat, lobster, and sardines. All were great. The prices are on the high side but the quality is way better than a safeway or giant and I think even better than whole foods. So if you can afford a little more to get better quality (I know that can be tough these days) I would recommend checking this place out. read more

Hate to write a bad review for a small independently owned business. But last two times bought so-called fresh fish that tasted like cardboard. Threw most of it out. No way it had not been frozen! And at a price that rivalled Blacksalt. For example, their local rockfish was over $32 per pound, at the Giant the same day was $14.99. Some might criticize the pricing at this store, but those that know quality premium never frozen seafood will know this is the place to go! For example, Almost all grocery store seafood markets take frozen shrimp and thaw them for display in the display case so you think it is fresh. We love this place. folks who know fish, the difference between farm raise and wild will understand the price difference. they alway have whole fish from which they will cut you however much you need. Unlike Whole Foods where the price far outweighs the quality here the fish is worth every penny. And the owners and employees are so polite. Just moved from the northeast where fish was plentiful and easy to buy. This place is super expensive for what they have. While it was vice nice inside and does not smell like fish, the prices were a bit of a shock for what it was. Given the parking I may go to Whole Foods next time as it's closer and I'll pay a little less. read more

I moved to town in the summer of 2021 and am thrilled to have discovered the Fishery Seafood Market. The quality of the fish here is outstanding. It is way better than Giant and Whole Foods... there is no comparison. I would also argue with some of the other posts here that it is really expensive but it is most definitely not more expensive than Whole Foods if you consider the quality. My husband and I eat a lot of fish and this is now my go-to spot! read more

I love this place. As so many others have mentioned, the fish is incredibly fresh and the smell when I walk in reminds me of a clean ocean smell. Rude proprietor! Was curt and rude when I asked if he could filet/butterfly a whole fish. This is the reason people go to such places to get service and products that you won't/can't get at your regular grocery store. I would not be going back to this market. The fish (of course) is fresh and wonderful, as everyone else has posted, but here's one thing that no one else has posted: buy the homemade tartar sauce! It's something like $2, and is by far the best partner to fresh fish that you will ever, ever eat! Why they don't advertise it there I have no idea--you have to ask for it--but if you do, you'll never buy fish there without buying that, too! read more

A complete gem. Some fish markets smell, well, fishy. Not a good sign. This one smells clean, fresh, and they have the most beautiful, delicious fish in the city. I stop here at least once a week on my way home from work. Ahi tuna, salmon, halibut, shrimp, etc. All fantastic. My kids even rave about fresh it tastes. Not only do I find exactly what I need in the fish department, I somehow find all the ingredients I need to make a fantastic dinner to go with it. Fresh produce, asian seasoning, dried pasta, fresh herbs, organic eggs, etc. For such a small space, they manage to fit an incredibly array of ingredients. And at prices that are no different than Giant, Whole Foods, etc. Pristine fish, incredible ingredient selection, friendly service, and fair prices. After years of buying fish at Whole Foods, I came upon The Fishery and my buying habits changed. The store is pristine, with a terrific variety, and the fish is gorgeous. It is also one of the only places that will steam lobster for you, clean it and package it beautifully for carry out (I work as a chef for a family, so I have this luxury). Besides fish they are are many gourmet (I hate that word, but) accompaniments. I highly recommend it. read more

Moreover, for a small store they've done a brilliant job of assessing exactly what to carry in the way of veggies, groceries, etc. in the space they have available. I buy almost all my seafood at the Fishery. The fish is fresh and they have a wide assortment to choose from. My favorites these days are salmon steaks, salmon filets, cod and rockfish. And their crabcakes are some of the best I've had - very little filler - with large chunks of crabmeat. They also have fresh vegetables available for sale (asparagus, broccoli, etc.), potatoes, rice, a broad array of seasonings and excellent white fish salad (it's our favorite) and seaweed salad so you can have a one-stop shopping experience. Last, but not least, they will assist you with ideas about preparing the fish, whether grilling, baking, or sautéing. read more

This is my neighborhood fish market and I consider myself very lucky for it. While it is a small shop and their fish and seafood selection is not the broadest, it is always superbly fresh and they take extremely good care of their customers. Their quality is better than Whole Foods (the only other decent seafood in convenient range) and their prices are equal or lower. I live around the corner from the shop and am usually picking something up one or two a week for 5 years. Have never had anything but exceptional quality fish and great service. The fish is very high quality and easily blows away Whole Foods and is equal to and cheaper than BlackSalt. The crab cakes are awesome, huge lumps of meat and little filler. Once we bought our first fish from the Fishery Seafood Market, we never even considered going anywhere else. The fish is always the best. We always feel welcomed and cared for when we enter. They also carry a full range of Asian and Mediterranean condiments, pastas and rice as well as a small selection of vegetables. They sell especially good avocados. But the fish keeps us coming back. This is my first review on Yelp in years, and I couldn't ask for a better place in all categories that deserve a 5 star rating. I've had their arctic char and organic salmon. Their fish is always fresh and the owners are very friendly. This is clearly a family run business that apparently has been running for over 20 years in the same spot with great quality at very reasonable prices. I almost always come by for their shrimp as well. Their crab cakes are probably the best I've ever had with minimal filling and large lumps of crab meat. I would easily pay double for this in a restaurant and feel like I got my money's worth. Surprisingly, they have other goods such as produce which is always fresh at again, reasonable prices. They offer a limited variety of goods (they are a small store!) that can save me a trip to an Asian market out in Wheaton or Annandale. Very happy with every aspect of their store. I've lived in the area for over a year and my only complaint is that I never tried them until a month ago. read more
