Came here with family on a Monday. It was super crowded, but it was dinner time. Our waitress was nice. She did mess up one of the salad orders but she comped the salad for us, so we appreciated that. This is a cute little bar offering food in historic Bluffton. Great atmosphere and not bad service. We sat at the bar. But the food needs something. I had the Kentucky Beer Cheese burger. I couldn't even taste the burger for the cheese. It was gobbed on. Way over powering! It also had mushrooms and jalapeños on it. Jalapeños were the only other thing I could taste. Homemade chips I got were good. Hubby got the Philly Cheesteak special with French Fries. He says it was mediocre only. So I think we will pass next time. read more

Unfortunately wasn't a fan of the grub at Captain Woody's. The whole table got something fried (starting with Fried Pickles) and we were all in the same boat with a heavy fried meal that makes you feel gross - and didn't taste too great to make it worthwhile. Woodys is my go to place for bar food. Great way to unwind and enjoy shrimp tacos and steamed shrimp with a local beer. Especially love it when there is live music on the top deck. Bar staff is excellent too. read more

Oh boy where do I start?! Food was not good. Ok I had the sirloin salad and the sliced sirloin looked awful. When I tasted it it had no flavor and was tuff. How difficult is it to add salt and pepper? No pride in the kitchen here! My hubby ordered the Alaskan Crab. Ok I warned him you NEVER order anything that comes from more than 3000 miles away but he insisted on ordering it. When they put it in front of him I could smell that it wasn't fresh and should've just gone in the trash! He said the shells had no snap and the meat crumbled which meant that it was over cooked. I think with this place you should stick with the basic fish n chips and don't expect more than a fast food quality. read more

If I could give this a lower rating I would. I'm giving it 1 star because they had a roof and four walls and they had bottled beer. Let me start out by saying that I have never in my adult life complained about a restaurant or a meal and I am pushing 30. I felt the need to reactivate my yelp account to singularly write this review, and I consider my time valuable so that is saying something. I went in on my way out or Hilton head. I drove 20 minutes out of my way to find this place on 'state of mind' street... if you want to be in a good state of mind go somewhere else. I sat at the bar and the bartender had the personality of a rusty nail. I observed him being friendly and attentive to the older and I'm going to assume more regular patrons but with me I could hardly get a word or service from him. I ordered a beer and a dozen raw oysters which are not cheap. The six warm ones I Managed to choke down before I sent them back terrified of food poisoning on my four hour drive back to Charlotte were Full of actual shell. I kindly told them that I was worried about the temperature and No nothing said about it, they just took them away without a word. Ok... so then the bartender asked me if I wanted to order anything else. I misunderstood at first and asked for more time, I then a few minutes later asked if I could order and he said "that's why I asked you. I asked you if you wanted to order something else " ok again... so I order an oyster po boy dressed (French bread toasted, tomato, pickles, shredded lettuce, mayo. I'm from New Orleans so I have some expectations but even so, I don't expect places up here to match because I'm a reasonable person. Oysters still gritty but this time fried, came out on basically a hot dog bun with a piece of lettuce. Nothing else. Brought me some warm tartar. Again, nervous about warm dairy so I chose to leave that alone. No one checked on me ever. Finally I asked the hostess if I could speak to the manager. She came out and was very friendly. I was very kind and apologetic about my feedback. I have been in hospitality for the greater part of my life in all capacities, in fact three places that were oyster bars. I know about this stuff and I'm never ever someone that is ugly or rude about things. I know how that is. I tip and I thank. Period. But anyways, she said thanks for the feedback and that was that. I even told her I wasn't in it for a free meal, I just wanted to give some feedback. Fast forward, I paid full price when I got my tab. I wasn't even going to fight because I was weak from these warm raw oysters. I then had explosive diarrhea for the following ten hours. I'm not saying anything else, I'll just let you glean whatever you may. I'm just sayin'... hit up McDonald's because they have a ballin fish sandwich if you want seafood and decent service. read more

This is definitely a hit or miss kind of dining experience when it comes to the quality of the food. The atmosphere here is rustic and a bit rough around the edges. They have a large screened patio area and a roof top bar that often times has live music. It's definitely a laid back flip flop kind of place offering a large menu of apps, ubiquitous bar food items like nachos, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and of course seafood in a myriad of ways. We have sampled several of the seafood platters, salads, soup, and sandwiches. I laughed at the description of the snow crab being labeled as a "huge" pound. Hey sixteen ounces is sixteen ounces. And when dealing with legs, a pound is merely an amuse bouche for most. Nevertheless, they were well prepared, easy to crack and most importantly NOT over salted. Some of the fried offerings, like fish or shrimp, spent a bit too much time in the hot oil. Frying seafood is a delicate operation, but a seafood house such as this, should have this mastered. Is this a "bring your out of town guests worthy" place? We don't think so. read more

And- that experience doesn't happen here. The service is slow and the employees don't seem to know the menu well enough to answer questions properly. Great crab balls but very small serving size so, order 2 orders per person. Fried shrimp was over cooked, sadly. Based on this experience, I'm not sure I would bother to come back even to eat downstairs. My husband and I went here for brunch. I had the prime rib eggs bene with grits, it was outstanding! Our server was attentive and really friendly. We sat inside but they have a lovely patio area. They allow dogs on their patio, I love dogs so it was nice seeing a place that allows them. I will definitely be back for brunch because who doesn't love a delicious eggs bene?? on 5/21/2022 we went here as we did not want to go to Hilton Head. Upon arriving hostess informed us of 45 to hour wait. No problem so we headed upstairs for a drink and staff and locals were more than friendly. we felt at home. When our table became available, we were seated and this bubbly young woman served us named Karissa. She was so vibrant even though she was clearly very busy She constantly checked on us as she did her other tables and always breezed by to ask if we had any needs. My wife and son are retired servers and let me tell you she can run her own show. Thanks so much for our great encounter and when we return in fall hope to see you again. Been here several times. Initially they made great sandwiches but my last visit with my family was disappointing. First of all the sandwich portions shrank. My husband went to this place a couple years back and was excited to return on our latest trip to Bluffton, but we were underwhelmed and a bit concerned about sanitation. The food was ok. I wouldn't choose to eat here again, but I've had worse. The sanitation in this place is one-star worthy for sure. Sticky tables. Sticky floors. Gross beverage area. The ranch and the tartar sauce were room temperature (hello there, food poisoning). And there was a general funk in the air. I left there praying that we didn't just get food poisoning. The reason for the two-star review is the friendliness of the staff. They were so helpful and timely, so I can't give this place only one star. read more

This is a local hang out for older locals who like to drink and talk loud. The fish was well prepared and tasty but we couldn't hear ourselves converse over the noise. They have several TVs turned up loud showing sport channels so I guess everyone thinks they have to shout to be heard.
