We'll probably eat here 2 or 3 times during our one week vacation! Love their food! This has been a family tradition for many years.

Sea Shack is one of my favorite places to go to when in HH. The restaurant is very casual and truly matches what comes to mind when you think of a seafood shack. It's counter service and byob. Tucked away off the main roads with excellent service and delicious food. I've never had a bad experience here whatsoever. Everything I have ordered has been delicious. The Sea Shack is just good ole' seafood. My grilled shrimp were perfect. The collards were excellent. The hush puppies were just right. The coleslaw was my least favorite thing on my plate, and it was very good. My mom loved her fried shrimp. The guys ordered the last of the grouper and said it was "nondescript." We arrived at 5:30 pm in the shoulder season and had zero wait. Those who arrived at 6 pm had about a 10 minute wait. I hear that in the summer the line looks like Disney World. The ambiance is beach casual with plastic table clothes and styrofoam plates. The tables have everything you need. It's not a place to linger. Go out for ice cream to do that. read more

Always great food and a fun experience. We got there at 4:45pm and were able to get indoor seating with the first batch of people. The service was straight to the point. Ray was friendly, pleasant, and personable. The ambiance isn't anything fancy but it's part of the experience. We love The Sea Shack and will always be back. read more

The food is the highlight here. Hush puppies are especially good. We share a grouper fish sandwich. 10 of us ate here and they accommodated us well. It took a while to get all the food but what can you expect with a large group? It is a shack so don't expect fancy surroundings, but they have a lot of signs on the wall from awards they've received. Worth a visit. read more

Everyone is extremely friendly treating you just like one of the locals. Food was delicious and hit the spot. My husband stopped by here a couple weeks ago while running errands and hasn't stopped talking about it. So we finally made it out today. We read about this restaurant before coming to Hilton Head and were genuinely excited to try it. Unfortunately, there wasn't a single part of the experience that met our expectations. The problems started before we even walked through the door. Our waitress snapped at my elderly mother, and in hindsight, that should have been our sign to leave. Instead, we gave the restaurant the benefit of the doubt because of its overwhelmingly positive reviews. The prices are slightly lower than some other seafood restaurants in the area, but not enough to justify the significant drop in quality. Compared to other places we visited, the value simply wasn't there. The food was disappointing across the board. The shrimp were small and overcooked. The flounder neither looked nor tasted like flounder. The sides were equally unimpressive: frozen French fries, premixed coleslaw, packaged salad mix with bottled dressing, and hushpuppies that were overly sweet. It was hard to identify anything that seemed freshly prepared other than the seafood itself--and even that was poorly executed. We're from Texas, where even small, unassuming seafood restaurants know how to prepare fresh seafood well. This restaurant fell short in every category: service, food quality, and overall value. This is a MUST VISIT place on HHI. Arrive at dinner and the line is to the door, or out the door. No frills seafood! Think of a hamburger stand that serves fresh seafood. My wife got the crab cake platter and I got fish and shrimp, blackened. When you come in have your card ready and an idea of what sounds good to you. Most items for a platter are under $20 and it comes with slaw, hush puppies, and a side (we got salad). After you order you can grab a table. The food was excellent and it's a lot of food. To be honest, I had a few bites left; I just couldn't eat any more. If you are looking for a great seafood dinner, and want to control the budget, this is your place. read more

The sea shack had good food but we collectively felt like if your standing in line to place order, sitting outside on picnic tables and getting served in disposable plates, it doesn't warrant for such high prices for the food. That being said, the food itself was quite good and we had a good time here. It can get very crowded inside and a little chaotic when you have to go get a drink refill but we do like the relaxed vibe and very good, freshly caught and freshly cooked seafood. read more

Our seafood platter was good, the sides were not. The Mac n cheese was old and discolored, barely any cheese and our kids wouldn't each it. We also got a kids cheeseburger which was inedible. Stick with the seafood here and coleslaw and hush puppies sides! read more

A lovely local restaurant to support, you walk in and just know that the fish will be great, staff was friendly and caring. The crab cake was a lovely appetizer, but I highly recommend the fish and chips with the sweet potato cornbread. I was able to fish my plate with strong portion of fish. If ever there was a not secret-secret in HH, this place is it. I am sure there are some who visit and do not know of the perfection and comfort that is the Sea Shack, but I am absolutely positive everyone local knows about it. This is where you get "everyday seafood." Not fancy scallops and lobster on a fine china and a blue crab reduction on something. No, this is where you get gator tail and catfish and crabcake all with hushpuppies, written a side on a dry erase board to view while you wait in line. Because you ARE going to wait in line. This place will take your order and serve it up quickly, but too many people know about it not to cause a wait. But again, you will need the time to decide your order (espically if it's your first time) as the platters, apps, and po boys all demand your attention. And then there's dessert! Pies and pudding galore. I just have to mentioned that sweet tea though. I took a gamble, and won. Like syrup on my lips. So much so that I bypassed standing in line again for dessert and just got a refill for the road. I love this place and you will too. Make at least one trip while in HH. The woman who took our order was so nice.. I ordered the blacked flounder, crab cakes and the fried conch fritters. I believe it was pick 3 for $24. We have been coming here for about 40 years now. Little has changed, although it has been painted on the interior and is much brighter now. The menu has not changed much in forty years. Still fresh seafood and prepared fried, grilled or blackened. The sides are still the same. The Sweet Potato Bread is almost like cake. Service is excellent and we were glad to be here during low season. On holidays and during high season I am sure there are still lines outside. We have waited in those lines many times, but with three little girls. Now they have children of their own. To be in business for that long the Sea Shack must be doing something right! HOWEVER this time the portions were much smaller than we remember and the prices were higher. Word of CAUTION. You should not put hot food directly on styrofoam with lining it. We went at lunch time to get some fried seafood. Fried Gator is my favorite and it was delicious! We also got a lobster roll. Everything looks and taste fresh. In preparing for our fall semi-annual visit to Marriott Grande Ocean at Hilton Head, I allow time for restaurant reviews. A Southern Living review merits attention. We have subscribed to Southern Living for many years, and value its content. Justine Harrington expresses her informed and uniformed "opinions." Justine is on target in several instances but misses the target in a few. All will agree that Chez Georges is highly rated; however, I suspect that Justine relied on a popularity poll in including The Sea Shack. The Sea Shack is hardly Hilton Head Island's best hidden seafood secret. Rachael Ray changed all of that years ago. I have to admire the business model of the very successful owner. Tons of southerners and Yankees approve. There is no accounting for taste... My 13 year old self would have delighted with the Sea Shack products. If one is into fried, breaded fish come here. If one is into plastic ware, plastic and paper plates come here. If one is interested in lines, zero ambience, and a few tables come here. Justine Harrington clearly missed the mark, and she does southerners and Yankees no favor.... Justine missed the mark with several of her other recommendations as well. read more
